The Renewed Hope Ambassadors Network (RHAN) has commended the exemplary leadership of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and its Chief Executive, Engr. Gbenga Komolafe. The group, consisting of loyalists of President Bola Tinubu, praised Komolafe's tireless efforts in driving reforms in the petroleum industry, in line with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). According to RHAN's assessment report, the NUPRC has made significant strides in implementing the PIA, which has led to improved operational effectiveness, reduced misconduct, and increased revenue generation for the government. The report highlighted the commission's efforts in streamlining regulatory processes, enhancing transparency, and promoting a more investment-friendly environment. Speaking at a press conference, the national secretary of the group, Dr. Opialu Fabian specifically praised Engr. Komolafe's leadership style, which he says, has brought about a strong commitment to regulatory excellence, innovation, and transparency. He noted that Komolafe's initiatives, such as technology-driven regulation, review of crude oil handling agreements, and commitment to local content development, have helped to curb oil theft, promote gas utilization, and attract investment in deepwater exploration. RHAN also commended Komolafe's commitment to local content development, which has strengthened engagement with host communities. According to Fabian, this has ensured that the benefits of oil production reach local populations, promoting socio-economic development and reducing conflicts. Furthermore, the report acknowledged the challenges still facing the NUPRC, including oil theft, regulatory bottlenecks, and security threats. However, RHAN expressed confidence that with consistent implementation of reforms and a commitment to global best practices, the PIA and the efforts of the NUPRC will continue to shape Nigeria's oil and gas industry. Fabian added: "Undoubtedly, Nigeria’s oil and gas sector has undergone a dramatic transformation since the petroleum Industrial Act (PIA) was passed. It has contributed to the establishment of a well-organized regulatory environment with the goal of improving investment opportunities, efficiency, and transparency. "In addition to ensuring that regulatory oversight is reinforced to support sustainable growth in the upstream petroleum sector, the establishment of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has been crucial in advancing these reforms. "However, with Engineer Gbenga Komolafe strategic foresight in increasing operational efficiency in NUPRC, it can be conclusively said that, better than before, an atmosphere that is favorable to investment and economic expansion now exist. "Despite putting policies like security enhancement, digitization, stakeholder engagement, and revenue optimization in place, challenges such as bureaucratic hurdles, host community concerns, and oil theft, though now at minimal, still remain issues that require continuous attention and strategic interventions. "We are convinced that with consistent implementation of reforms and a commitment to global best practices, the PIA and the efforts of the NUPRC will continue to shape Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, ensuring it remains a vital contributor to national economic development."

***Warn Against Influence of Desperate Power Mongers Over 1,000 groups within the People's Democratic Party (PDP) have rallied behind Senator Samuel Anyanwu, reaffirming their support for him as the National Secretary of the party. This move comes amidst the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP. The PDP Youth Frontiers Network, representing progressive-minded youth groups within the party, made this known at a press briefing in Abuja to address the crisis. They emphasised that Senator Anyanwu remains the legitimate National Secretary, and any attempt to remove him and replace him with Sunday Udeh-Okoye, Deputy National Secretary, is unacceptable. In his address, national coordinator Hon. Henry Owolabi said PDP Governors' Forum and the Board of Trustees (BoT) have overstepped their bounds by advising the National Working Committee (NWC) to swear in Udeh-Okoye as the National Secretary. This decision, Owolabi argue, is at variance with the party's constitution and ignores the fact that Senator Anyanwu was elected at a convention. The group also pointed out that Senator Anyanwu has appealed the judgment at the Supreme Court, and therefore, the status quo should be maintained pending the determination of the substantive application. They warned against the influence of desperate power mongers, stating that the actions of the Governors' Forum and the BoT are "illegal, deliberately mischievous, and uncomplimentary" to the party. The group also threatened to mobilize their members and supporters to block judicial premises and take civil actions if the warning is ignored. Owolabi added: "We consider it an imperative and dire need of the hour that, as a Party we must begin by building consensus and form once more a united, formidable and strong Party, striving to preserve the PDP as a veritable platform for good governance in Nigeria and not continue in the path of self-interest, self-distraught, myopic divisiveness and pristine bickering which has not helped us but has become viable and fertile ground for the opposition to hatch inroads and poach into us destroying our very fabrics. "We, therefore, join our voices and affirm unequivocal, unflinching and unwavering support and loyalty of our organization and that of all party supporters to the ideals of the party and by extension to the office of the National Secretary. "That Senator Anyanwu remains the National Secretary and the attempt to remove him and replace him with a judiciary-imposed secretary, without any Congress or legitimate procedural ratification of any organ of the party is hereby totally rejected. "We warn all detractors and perpetrators and indeed the Judiciary to steer clear of the internal workings of our great party and henceforth refrain from issuing illegal, baseless, porous, judgments that lack legal foundation and are immoral. "We are poised to mobilize all our members and teeming supporters to block all judicial premises and ensure civil actions that will lead to compliance with this warning if it is flaunted."

SAN Writes Tinubu Over PSC Chairman’s Conduct As Lawyer Confirms Payment Of N700, 000 Into Court Staff's Account President Bola Tinubu has been asked to call the Chairman of Police Service Commission, PSC, Hashimu Salihu Argungu, a retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, to order over attempt to review a lawful judgement of court. In a letter dated January 29, signed by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Terkaa Aondo, SAN, the president was asked to call him to order for allegedly meddling unlawfully into enforcement of judgement of court of competent jurisdiction. In suit number FCT/HC/CV/330/2018, Alhaji Usman Sarahi, challenged the unlawful and illegal revocation of Plot 1798 Cadastral Zone A2, Wuse District, Abuja, covered by a Certificate of Occupancy, without service of Revocation notice in line with the Land Use Act. Upon determination of the case, the court delivered its judgment in favour of Alhaji Saraki and nullified the purported revocation and subsequent reallocation. The court held that the purported Revocation of the claimant’s right of occupancy without service of revocation notice is illegal, null and void and of no effect whatsoever. The judgment was enforced on 19/12/2024 by evicting all the occupants and on 25/12/24, one Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar and his thugs, broke back into the property against the Order of the FCT High Court. The SAN said, in the petition to the President, "It is pertinent to note that, on the 25/12/2024, one Alhaji Abubakar Yahaya, the brother in-law to a top high ranked official of the Police Service Commission, aided by weapon-wielding thugs, criminally and forcefully broke In and entered into the property in total disrespect to the Order of Court that had evicted them. Following complaint to the Court and the Police, on 14/1/2025, the illegal occupants were evicted from the property, and our client put back in possession." Alhaji Yahaya allegedly paid the sum of N700,000.00 to a staff of the Execution unit of the FCT High Court to prevent the Court staff from going back to the property to further evict him and his illegal occupants and thugs. But Alhaji Yahaya, through his Counsel, Barrister Sani Abass, said the money was paid to the Court staff in error. He said, "That issue has been resolved, the money was sent in error and it has been reversed". Alhaji Yahaya approached the court in Suit No. FCT/HC/CV/5699/2024, over the enforcement of judgment and secured an injunction to stop further construction work on the property and also petitioned the PSC, following which a panel, chaired by the Chairman of the Commission, DIG Argungu (rtd) is said to be conducting an investigation into the enforcement of Judgment of a Court of competent jurisdiction over a civil matter. The senior advocate said in the petition that despite the pendency of the matter before FCT High Court, his client was invited by a letter personally signed by the chairman of the PSC to appear before a panel set up by the PSC chairman over issues relating to the Court judgment and its enforcement which are subject of Suit No. FCT/HC/CV/5699/2024 pending before FCT High Court No. 5, Maitama, presided over by Hon. Justice Mairo Nasir. According to the senior counsel, when the Panel sat on 27/1/2025, most of the issues raised by the Panel relate to the where-about of the judgment creditor; how the plot was allocated and how the Judgment was obtained and enforced, which are all matters that have been decided on merit by a Court of competent jurisdiction in Suit No. FCT/HC/CV/330/2018, and which also form the basis of the pending litigation in Suit No. FCT/HC/CV/5699/2024. "All efforts by counsel to make the Chairman appreciate the fact that the investigation over the Plot of land upon which a judgment of court subsists, Is outside the mandate of the Commission, proved abortive. In the course of the sitting on 27/1/2025, in a rather shocking and bizarre twist, the Chairman directed the Panel to pay a visit to the locus in quo for a first hand assessment of the property, and deployed several Police Vehicles and Armoured vehicle, for this purpose." A senior official of the PSC, Mr Ikechukwu Ani, said he is not aware of the panel. According to him, " To the best of my knowledge, I'm not aware of such panel.” The SAN states that his client feels intimidated by the posture and threats by the Chairman of the PSC, but he is nonetheless, uninterested in any resolution of the matter outside the Court. The SAN concludes that: "It is important to note Sir, that It against the hallowed principle of rule of law, which your administration Is poised to protect, for an appointee of an exalted public office to deliberately interfere in the judicial process and the cause of justice. We pray your Excellency Sir, to use your good offices to call the Chairman of the Police Service Commission to order and to cause him to align himself with the mandate for which the Commission was established."

"In the healthcare sector, Senator Yari has made significant strides, launching a groundbreaking health initiative in November 2023, which provided free eye treatments and surgeries to over 1,000 patients in Zamfara West Senatorial District," Ali noted. "This life-changing intervention has not only improved the health and wellbeing of the beneficiaries but has also restored their vision and dignity. In his quest to empower the youth, Senator Yari introduced the Yari scholarship initiative in June 2024, which has provided scholarships to 1,700 students from underprivileged backgrounds, enabling them to pursue higher education in various Nigerian universities. "This visionary program has opened doors of opportunity for these young minds, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to drive positive change in their communities. "Senator Yari's commitment to infrastructure development is evident in his construction of over 7,000 primary schools across Zamfara State, ensuring that children from low-income families receive proper education. "He has also constructed roads, including a 12-kilometer road in Nasarawa, Bukyum LGA, and bridges at Bardoki in Gumi LGA, facilitating easy movement of people and goods and stimulating economic growth. "In the agricultural sector, Senator Yari has championed initiatives to support local farmers, providing fertilizers and other essential inputs, boosting agricultural productivity, and ensuring food security in the region. "Senator Yari's impact extends beyond his immediate community, and his contributions in the Red Chamber have further cemented his reputation as a leader who combines political acumen with a deep understanding of the needs of the people." The group described Yari as a role model in the north, adding that his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. Ali, however, urged the Senator to sustain the tempo in his continued service to Zamfara people and our great nation.

The Reformed Arewa Youth Council of Nigeria (RAYCN) has petitioned the Inspector General of Police and the Department of State Services, accusing Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor of Rivers State and former Minister of Transportation, and Attahiru Bafarawa, former Governor of Sokoto State, of plotting to destabilize Nigeria. According to the group, Amaechi and Bafarawa are planning a series of mass protests across the northern region, starting from Bafarawa's village and spreading to Sokoto, Zamfara, Kano, Kebbi, Kaduna, and Katsina States. The petition signed by its national president, Bilal Abdulahi said the protests, disguised as expressions of grievances over hunger and economic hardship, aim to incite chaos and undermine the credibility of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration. The group further claimed that Amaechi is financing Bafarawa, who is in turn funding and mobilizing resources to implement the protests. The group described this plot as a "treasonous activity" that must not be tolerated in any democratic society. The petition calls on the Department of State Services to investigate the plot and those behind it, emphasizing that their actions constitute a clear threat to national security. “Despite Nigeria's economic challenges, which stem from past misgovernance by figures like Amaechi and Bafarawa, President Tinubu has demonstrated a commitment to resolving these issues,” the petition added. “His support for industrial growth, food security, energy stability, and investment show his dedication to long-term prosperity for all Nigerians. Citizens cannot afford for this to be jeopardised. “Amaechi and Bafarawa are not interested in national progress. Their goal is to plunge Nigeria into a crisis that will enable them to bargain for relevance. “They do not care about the millions of Nigerians who will suffer from the economic downturns that may arise from instability. “They do not care about the investors who will be discouraged, the businesses that will be affected, or the security threats that may emerge from their unreasonable reckless actions. “Consequently, we urge the security agencies to investigate this plot and those behind it. If their behaviour continues unchecked, it might be disastrous for our nation’s peace and harmony because they are actively gathering resources to carry out their evil schemes, which is no longer just conjecture but verified intelligence. “Treasonous activities must not be tolerated in any democratic society. Every nation has laws that safeguard its sovereignty, and Nigeria must not be an exception. “Amaechi and Bafarawa must be held accountable for their attempts to manipulate the populace into causing anarchy. Their actions constitute a clear threat to national security, and the full weight of the law must be brought upon them.“ The group reaffirms its commitment to the unity, progress, and security of Nigeria, urging all well-meaning Nigerians to support President Tinubu's administration and reject the agents of destruction.

The Reformed Arewa Youth Council of Nigeria (RAYCN) has raised concerns over an alleged plot by Rotimi Amaechi, Attahiru Bafarawa, and Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi to destabilise President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration. At a press conference on Thursday, the group claimed that the trio is working together with foreign elements and other national and international disgruntled elements to replicate the undemocratic overthrow of democratically elected authorities in parts of the sub-region. The alleged plot is said to involve the stockpiling of sophisticated firearms, covert actions, and massive protests across the North West, starting from Bafarawa's village and spreading to Sokoto, Zamfara, and other states. National President, Bilal Abdulahi, also claimed that Amaechi is providing resources for Bafarawa, who is in turn funding and mobilising Shinkafi to run a campaign of calumny against the administration. He added: "It is clear that their intention and their several meetings is aimed at intimidating the government President Tinubu, and the various organs of government and make the citizens feel that the government and her various organs are not doing sufficient enough to take the people to prosperity. "This is a matter of utmost state security concern. Its propensity and devastation can be better imagined. The country and indeed national security is under serious threat by the activities of these marauding tripartite, and we cannot fold our arms until we are submerged or over awe by their evil machination and subterfuge. " The Reformed Arewa Youth Council of Nigeria called on security agencies to investigate the matter immediately and take decisive action against the alleged plotters. The group also urged youths, religious organisations, and lovers of peace and democracy to stand against the alleged plot and support President Tinubu's administration in its efforts to reform the country. Abdulahi said: "This is nothing short of an attempt to overawe and possibly topple a Democratic institution, it is a treasonable felony and must be resisted with all necessary state powers. "It is clear that ever since their shameful and incontrovertible defeat at the polls by President Bola Tinubu, these three elements have not hidden their hate and disdain but for the person and organs of the various governments. "It is however unfortunate that this hatred and disdain is pushing them to act against the office of the President and Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces and becoming direct threat to our democracy and the rule of law. The must consequently be stopped with all might and not be allowed to go further, as this will serve as deterrence."

Kaduna Group Condemns El-Rufai 's Alleged Plots To Harras, Destabilise Gov Uba Sani Govt The Kaduna Good Governance Forum (KGGF) has condemned former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai's alleged attempts to rewrite history and assert himself as the owner of the state. The group accused el-Rufai of harassment and distraction of incumbent Governor Uba Sani while threatening him with the 2027 General Elections. According to the forum, el-Rufai's actions smack of desperation to rewrite history and suit his narrative. They argued that his threats towards Governor Sani are a threat to democracy, as only the people of Kaduna state have the right to decide their leader. In a statement signed by Comrade Richard Amos, the forum praised Governor Sani's efforts in healing the wounds of insecurity and corruption inflicted during el-Rufai's tenure. They criticized el-Rufai's alleged role in perpetuating insecurity in the northwest and called for authorities to investigate his administration's malfeasance. The Kaduna Good Governance Forum demanded that el-Rufai stop his alleged revisionism and allow the current administration to continue its work in restoring peace and unity to Kaduna State. "For a man who, as governor, precipitated the insecurity that now ravages the entire northwest by placing terrorists and bandits on salary, we have concerned that the threat to Governor Uba Sani is not just about politics," the statement added. "We have cause to worry that el-Rufai will deploy the state’s funds in his possession to unleash these terrorists on the state consistent with his strategy of seeking to destroy that which he cannot control. "This potential to undermine the security of the state and the whole of Nigeria is enough reason for the authorities to speed up identifying and prosecuting the aides he used to steal and launder Kaduna state’s money to retrieve these funds from them and keep the state and the country safe. "We earnestly hope that the probe of the malfeasance that dominated his administration will be taken beyond his aides, who were mere errand boys, to include el-Rufai himself. "This malfeasance and his suspected role as a terrorist sponsor must be the core of the security report that ensured he was not confirmed as a minister, even though President Bola Tinubu magnanimously nominated him as one. "It is the reason he is now a retired former politician who is traipsing the country, trying to form a collective of those who had failed in public office and are too bitter at being rejected. "We urge el-Rufai to desist from any further threats and allow the current administration to continue its work in restoring peace and unity to Kaduna State while focusing on how to explain the theft of Kaduna State money stolen under his watch. "The Kaduna Good Governance Forum demands that el-Rufai immediately stop his attempt at revisionism, as the people are too enlightened to fall for such a cheap trick. "

Ribadu Writes Naja'atu Muhammad, Seeks Public Apology, Retraction Of Malicious Statement In Tiktok Video The National Security Adviser, NSA, Malam Nuhu Ribadu has written a politician and leader of Northern Star, Hajia Naja'atu Muhammad, over a malicious statement in a Tiktok video shared across all social media platforms In the Tiktok video, Hajia Muhammad accused the NSA of serving in President Bola Tinubu's government, whom he castigated when he was the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. In a letter, through his lawyer, Dr Ahmed Raji, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, the NSA said publicly or privately, he has never maintained such viewpoint. He said the damage that had been done as a result of the Tiktok video was unquantifiable. In the letter dated February 4,2025 and signed by Dr. Raji, reads, "Clearly, in the text of your recording [reproduced and translated above] you stated that when our client served as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes, [EFCC] he allegedly named President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, alongside Sen. George Akume and Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu [all former Governors, and in that order] as the governors in Nigeria who stole the most from public treasury. "You also stated that today, our client who once held the above odious view about President Tinubu has turned around to be his staunchest defender; especially, with regard to what you stated to be the government’s agenda to silence voices of dissent to the government, citing the alleged arrest of a certain Prof. Usman Yusuf as an example. "You also stated that our client’s alleged attitudinal change towards President Tinubu means that he has either become a liar or that he lied when he allegedly described President Tinubu, Sen. Akume, Sen. Kalu and other governors as thieves. "Privately or publicly, our client has never expressed the above viewpoint about President Tinubu and/or Senators George Akume and Orji Uzor Kalu, which you attributed to him. "In fact, our client has never held such a viewpoint about the President; hence, it came as a complete surprise to him when his attention was drawn to the aforesaid publication by you against him. "In the foregoing premise, our client hereby challenges you to provide evidence of your allegations therein against him; which have cast him as double-faced, duplicitous and deceitful in the eyes of right-thinking members of the society. "Although masked as a clarion call to the North to rise up to your perceived injustice against the North by the government of the day, your publication is also inciteful of violence towards our client. Given this far-reaching ramification of your publication, our client will not sit back and watch his hard-eamed reputation and goodwill destroyed by your malicious decision to not only lay false allegations against him, but also, to cause the same to be published for the world’s attention. "Your intention to bring our client to public ridicule, opprobrium, scorn and shame etc., is laid bare when it is considered that you deliberately caused same to be published on social media, where it has since gone viral. "Surely, the damage occasioned to our client by your deliberate but ill-advised action is unquantifiable. However, our client will be assuaged if you retract the said publication and tender an unreserved public apology to him in at least 5 [five] national daily newspapers within 7 [seven] days of receipt of this letter. If not, we have our client’s further instructions to seek redress against you in a court of law where exemplary damages will be claimed against you. Kindly be advised."

A car gift has sparked a row between the minister of state for defence and former governor of Zamfara state, Alhaji Bello Matawalle and his media handler, who also served as Information commissioner in his cabinet in the state, Malam Ibrahim Dosara. It was gathered that controversy broke out between the minister and Dosara, a highly experienced British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, trained journalist, with a Facebook outrage alleged to have been sponsored by the minister against him. In the Facebook post, the former information commissioner was terribly castigated by the minister 's facebookers, calling him all sort names, including blackmailing his patent rights. According to findings, the row began when the minister ordered his aides to give the former commissioner a used car ( Mercedes 230 car 2005 model) which Dosara gifted out to one of his social media managers. The action angered the minister and his allies which led to media attacks and campaign of columny against Dosara. All efforts to reach out to either the minister of state defence or Ibrahim Dosara prove abortive. Dosara has been a strong pillar in defending the minister of state for defense in the series of litigations, petitions, negative media attacks and image making.

*Anti-Corruption Groups Call for EFCC Chairman's Resignation Over Ganduje's Non-Prosecution* A coalition of 30 anti-corruption civil society organizations have called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) chairman, Olanipekun Olukoyade, to resign due to his failure to prosecute former Kano Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje despite overwhelming corruption allegations. Under the auspices of the Global Initiative for Corruption Eradication (GICE), the groups said Ganduje, now the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, has evaded prosecution multiple times. In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Comrade Anthony Onoja, the CSOs recalled that the Kano High Court scheduled his arraignment on April 17, 2024, but he and his wife failed to appear, showing “blatant disregard for the law”. He lamented that subsequent adjournments yielded the same result, with the judge eventually ruling that the defendants could be tried in absentia. GICE criticised the EFCC for what it described as selective prosecution, allowing high-profile individuals like Ganduje to go scot-free while targeting vulnerable political figures. The groups cite the N50 billion diverted LGA funds, dollar video, and N1 billion naira probe as evidence of the EFCC's inaction. According to Onoja, the continued silence of the EFCC despite numerous petitions, evidence, and protests from various groups and the Kano state government undermines its credibility. GICE believes the EFCC has abandoned its original mandate, becoming a tool for the government to eliminate political rivals. While expressing support for President Tinubu's efforts to combat corruptioly, the group warned against undermining his rule with unpopular actions. “The EFCC cannot engage in a just fight against corruption, starting from within its ranks, they should stop molesting vulnerable political figures,” the statement said. “It is high time we saddled people with the real responsibilities of tackling corruption in Nigeria and not executing dangerous political survival strategies for paymasters. “N50billions diverted LGA funds, dollar video and N1billion naira probe all swept under the carpet. It’s been over 2,200 days since the dollar video scandal broke and yet EFCC is silent. “The continued silence of the EFCC despite the monumental corruption allegations against Ganduje, despite the many petitions, the avalanche of evidence(s) available and protest from various groups and the Kano state government to probe and bring Ganduje to book is no longer golden. “It also negates its constant rebuttal of keeping sacred cows. The general perception of Nigerians now is that the EFCC, as it is, has abandoned its original mandate by becoming a political tool in the hands of the government of the day for eliminating political rivals and perceived enemies. “We invite well meaning Nigerians and relevant international organizations to rise to the occasion and join in calling for the EFCC to stop insulting the sensibilities of Nigerians by calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Ganduje. “The chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) must immediately resign his position if he fails to arrest and prosecute Governor Ganduje in line with our extant laws. “Finally, our group is of the considered view that perhaps if the EFCC in its current form is disbanded because of its constitutional illegality as pointed out by the states in the current case against the efcc in the Apex Court, it would be able to perform its real functions of stamping out corruption when it's law is properly enacted.”

The Center for Justice and Peace (CJP) has swiftly disassociated itself from a statement calling for the arrest of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello. In a press conference held in Abuja, the Director General of the Center, Dr. Stephen Okparaibe categorically denied authorizing the statement. Okparaibe expressed dismay at the attempt by politicians to compromise the organization's principles. He described the individuals as paid agents bent on causing confusion and disrepute to democratic institutions. “We are shocked that desperate politicians would sponsor criminals to impersonate our organization and release malicious statements,” Okparaibe said. “This blatant attempt to undermine our integrity and independence will not be tolerated." “We are perturbed that some section of the media would grant audience to these unknown faces to impersonate and release a statement on behalf of the group.” CJP emphasised its commitment to justice, peace, and adherence to the rule of law, and reaffirmed its independence and non-partisanship. The group, comprised mostly of lawyers, underscored its dedication to promoting Nigeria's democratic values. According to Okparaibe, the impostors' statement contradicts its core values, as it would not call for the arrest of someone who voluntarily surrendered to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). "If the EFCC, which declared Mr. Bello wanted, had him for over four hours and refused to arrest and prosecute him, how could we?" he queried. CJP condemned the derogatory statements made against the judiciary and urged relevant authorities to take action against the impostors for impersonation. The group warned that Nigeria's progress would be hindered if individuals are allowed to masquerade as activists, causing confusion and disrepute to democratic institutions. CJP also called on the National Security Adviser, Department of State Security Service, Inspector General of Police, and other relevant agencies to investigate and prosecute the impostors. The group reaffirmed its commitment to allowing the judicial process to run its course, rather than taking sides in the EFCC-Yahaya Bello matter. “We don't want to be dragged into this issue. Let the court decide," Okparaibe stated. |
The Save Nigeria Coalition, a renowned anti-corruption group, has criticised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over its handling of the prosecution of former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello. The group alleged that the EFCC's actions are a "shameful outing" and a "media trial" that suggests a predetermined outcome. Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Dr. Felicia Eneh Daniel, its Country Director, said the EFCC's failure to detain Bello after he voluntarily presented himself for questioning raises questions about the agency's intentions. The Save Nigeria Coalition also slammed the EFCC for allegedly writing "barefaced lies" and making "irreconcilable blunders" in its attempt to prosecute Bello. Furthermore, the group questions the EFCC's selective prosecution, citing cases against Senator Danjuma Goje, former governors Abdullahi Garden Grove and Samuel Ortom as well as Senator Godswill Akpabio that have not been pursued. Daniel said: “There is nowhere in the civilized world where a law enforcement agency will allow a wanted man who voluntarily presented himself to its operational headquarters and spent Four gruelling hours with operatives of the agency to go without immediately detaining the person and asking critical questions that will enable swift and thorough prosecution of such suspects. “The actions of the EFCC last week when Yahaya Bello, whom the agency had previously declared wanted and invited even the Interpol to assist in bringing to justice, voluntarily presented himself for questioning and prosecution, in line with the extant laws, suggests that what the agency wants is beyondnd legal prosecution of Yahaya Bello and that there is a hidden agenda that the EFCC and its handlers are yet to lead Nigerians into. “It is appalling that the anti graft agency will now resort to writing barefaced lies and making up irreconcilable blunders in its desperate attempt to nail Yahaya Bello on the media and destroy a man who has not been convicted by a court of competent jurisdiction despite having legal representation, as allowed by the law, in all the hearings. “It is also intriguing that the EFCC will attempt to play on the sensibilities of Nigerians that the agency has no sacred cows and will spare no one in it’s efforts to rid the country and its institutions of financial improprieties. “ Daniel demands answers to several critical questions, including why the N5 billion case against Senator Danjuma Goje was withdrawn, why the EFCC hasn't prosecuted former governor Samuel Ortom despite corruption allegations, and why the EFCC hasn't investigated and prosecuted Ganduje. “Why did the anti graft agency accede to the withdrawal of the N5billion case against former governor of Gombe state, Senator Danjuma Goje? We were all in this country when FG suddenly withdrew its case against Senator Danjuma Goje from the court. “Why has the EFCC not prosecuted former governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state despite the monumental corruption allegations against him and the willingness of the present Benue state government to assist the anti-graft agency to unearth the endemic corruption that took place in the state during the Ortom government? “Why has the EFCC refused to investigate and prosecute Former Governor of Kano state and now national Chairman of the ruling party , H.E Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, despite his indictment by the anti graft agency in Kano state and monumental corruption cases filed against him by the Kano state government? What happened to the viral Gandollar video? Or has the agency started keeping sacred cows? “Why has the EFCC not prosecuted the current senate president, Senator Godswill Akpabio despite the allegations of billions of naira and his refusal to appear before the agency when he was invited for questioning? Do we now have to laws in Nigeria; one for the Akpabios and the other for the Yahaya Bellos? “We can go on and on as a group that has dedicated years of its existence into tracking corruption cases under the radar of the EFCC.” The Save Nigeria Coalition, therefore, called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and ensure the EFCC follows due process, warning that selective prosecution will undermine the country's democratic credentials. They urged Nigerians to stand up for the rule of law and demand accountability from the EFCC. Daniel added: “We call on Mr. President to intervene and call the EFCC to order as this unacceptable act of singling out a perceived political enemy for persecution, if allowed, will become a big dent to his tall democratic credentials. “While we do not hold briefs for anybody, our group takes seriously, cases of corruption and believes in imbibing international best practices in making leaders accountable for their actions. The current kill-him-at-all-cost strategy by the EFCC in this current case involving Yahaya Bello is crude and unknown to our laws. “Lastly, the fact that some illiterate cashivists like the so called Human and Environmental Agenda (HEDA Resource Center), and other fake groups are being hurriedly assembled to buy into this agenda of blackmailing and browbeating Yahaya Bello to submission, further confirms the fears of many Nigerians that this s-called corruption prosecution of Yahaya Adoza Bello is a grand conspiracy by powerful political enemies to silence the former governor and ease him out of circulation. “

*Group Accuses Zamfara Gov, Dauda Lawal of Hiding Turji Bello, Other Notorious Bandits in Govt House* A coalition of civil society organizations, Situation Room on the War Against Banditry, has accused Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, of harbouring notorious bandits, including Turji Bello, in the government house, brazenly undermining efforts to restore peace to the region. The group, at a press conference, said the notorious bandit leader, sought refuge in the government house after the military's offensive pushed him out of his hiding place. This allegation comes amidst growing concerns over the governor's relationship with bandits terrorizing the region. In his address, convener Nwogu Ndubisi further criticized Governor Lawal's administration for allocating over N1.3 billion to bandits and media propagandists. Ndubisi argued that this funding has exacerbated the insecurity plaguing Zamfara State and its surrounding areas. The group's accusations are further fuelled by Governor Lawal's reaction to the military's success in eliminating bandit kingpin Kachalla Halilu. Rather than standing in solidarity with the people of Zamfara, Lawal has been vocal about political oppositions, sparking concerns that he feels threatened by the military's progress. “It is with heavy hearts that we address the recent developments surrounding Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal. Governor Lawal, currently under scrutiny in the court of public opinion, is accused of maintaining a dubious and potentially collusive relationship with the marauding bandits who have wreaked havoc on the region,”. Ndubisi said. “These disturbing claims have surfaced in light of his administration’s purported allocation of over N1.3 billion to bandits and media propagandists, which raises profound questions about the governor’s role in exacerbating the rampant insecurity plaguing Zamfara State and its surrounding areas. “The timing of this breakthrough couldn't be more pivotal, coming hot on the heels of the Nigerian military's revitalized efforts to combat banditry under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Defence Minister Bello Matawalle's leadership. The recent operation yielded a monumental success - the elimination of notorious bandit kingpin Kachalla Halilu in Zamfara. “Before this daredevil bandit leader met his Waterloo, he enjoyed wide illicit connections and funding, had been kidnapping, killing, and terrorising citizens in Zamfara, Sokoto, Niger and Katsina states as well as other parts of the North-West zone. “His killing alongside 30 other bandits was greeted with jubilations in Zamfara and her neighboring states. This operation, a direct result of the Minister of Defence’s visit to energize and motivate the troops, is a tangible proof to the federal government’s steady commitment to restoring peace to the North West. “However, while many hailed this success as a turning point, one individual that appeared unsettled by these developments is none other than Dauda Lawal. Rather than standing in solidarity with the people of Zamfara and the brave troops risking their lives to rid the region of bandits, Governor Lawal’s reaction in being more vocal about political oppositions has raised eyebrows. “Could it be that the governor feels threatened by the military’s success in dismantling the very forces he is accused of enabling, and closing in on other bandit leaders within the state? We must ask ourselves: why does Dauda Lawal seem to be playing politics with the lives of his own people? “Perhaps the most alarming aspect of this unfolding drama is the recent expose that revealed the governor’s close ties to a notorious bandit leader, Turji Bello. According to reliable sources, when the military’s offensive pushed Turji Bello out of the forests where he had been hiding, he did not flee to safety or seek refuge among civilians, he allegedly took shelter in the Zamfara State Government House under the protection of Dauda Lawal’s administration. “This is a blatant betrayal of the people of Zamfara and a clear indication that the governor’s hands may not be clean. This alone raises serious questions about the role of the state government in the ongoing banditry. “For weeks, Turji Bello remained in the Government House, a place meant to represent the highest level of governance and leadership, and not a sanctuary for criminals. It was only when fears mounted that the military might enter the Government House to apprehend him that he was reportedly moved to Kainji, in a local government area, in an effort to shield him from justice. This entire episode speaks volumes about the moral decay that has taken root in Zamfara’s leadership under Dauda Lawal’s watch. “From all indications, We believe that Governor Lawal is attempting to deflect attention from his administration’s failure to address the banditry crisis by resorting to political grandstanding. Rather than taking responsibility for his actions, he has chosen to accuse others, shifting blame while innocent lives continue to be lost. “ The Situation Room on the War Against Banditry, therefore, called for Governor Lawal's resignation, citing his administration's failure to address the banditry crisis and alleged complicity in the suffering of the people. They urge the federal government, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and relevant agencies to continue their efforts to bring peace to Zamfara and the North West region. Ndubusi added: “The people of Zamfara deserve a leader who prioritizes their safety and security, not one who allegedly enables bandits and undermines the efforts of those committed to peace. “The people of Zamfara deserve better. They deserve a leader who will confront the issues head-on, not one who plays politics with their safety and security. We must also recognize the governor’s complicity in the suffering of his people. “His administration has failed at every turn to provide the necessary leadership and support to combat the bandits. Instead, there is growing evidence that he has used public funds of over N1.3 billion to prop up the very criminals responsible for the bloodshed in Zamfara. This is not only a gross misallocation of resources but a betrayal of the trust placed in him by the people. “How can Governor Lawal justify such spending when Zamfara’s schools remain closed, healthcare is in shambles, and basic infrastructure is crumbling? The answer lies in his priorities. The governor’s failure to address the banditry problem and his administration’s tacit support for these criminal elements have had devastating consequences for the people of Zamfara. “Innocent civilians are being killed, women and children are being abducted, and entire communities are living in fear. Meanwhile, Governor Lawal continues to enjoy the trappings of power, seemingly indifferent to the suffering around him. “The current administration has alarmingly abandoned its moral principles, reneging on its sacred duty to serve the people who entrusted it with power. Governor Dauda Lawal must face scrutiny for his actions, both from the public and the judiciary. The time has come for him to answer the unanswered questions about his relationship with the bandits. Why has he allocated so much money to these criminals? Why has he allowed Turji Bello to find refuge in his government facilities? Why is he playing politics with the lives of the people? “It is high time for Governor Lawal to step aside. He has failed the people of Zamfara. He has failed Nigeria. His continued presence in office only serves to embolden the bandits and prolong the suffering of innocent civilians. If he truly cares about the people he claims to represent, he should resign immediately and allow a leader who will prioritize the safety and security of the region to take the seat of governance. “The Nigerian government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, has shown its commitment to eradicating banditry through decisive military action. The recent operations that resulted in the death of a major bandit leader and the flight of others, including Turji Bello, are evidence of the progress being made. But this progress must not be undermined by state-level actors who are more interested in protecting their political interests than safeguarding their citizens. “The people of Zamfara are not powerless. They have the right to demand answers from their leaders. They have the right to hold Governor Lawal accountable for his administration’s failures. And they have the right to expect that their government will not be complicit in the crimes that have torn apart their communities.”

***Says Regime of Corruption by NNPCL Targeting Local Refineries The Coalition of Energy Reforms Lawyers and Activists (CERLA) has accused the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) of attempting to undermine Dangote Refinery's efforts to address Nigeria's energy crisis. At a press conference, the coalition's spokesperson, Okwa Dan, alleged that NNPCL spread falsehoods about Dangote Refinery's pricing, claiming it sold PMS at N868 per liter. Dan described this as a deliberate attempt to frustrate Dangote Refinery's smooth operations and part of a larger regime of corruption aimed at frustrating local refineries and perpetuating fuel subsidy scams. The coalition criticized NNPCL's lack of transparency and accountability in crude oil management, citing its preference for importing substandard PMS from abroad. This, they say, is fraudulent and counterproductive, benefiting only a select few. Dan said: “The Coalition of Energy Reform Lawyers and Activists frowns at the despicable conduct of the NNPCL. It smacks of a mockery of the sincerity of the government towards addressing the energy challenges in the country. “It also beats our imagination and discerning minds on why the NNPCL is bent on frustrating the operations of a wholly indigenous refinery in the country with the capacity to meet the daily needs of the citizens in the supply of PMS for local consumption. “The preference by the NNPCL for the continued importation of substandard PMS from Malta and other locations around the world is fraudulent and counterproductive. It is indeed a regime to please a select few and to the detriment of sustainable growth and development in the country. “The Mele Kyari-led NNPCL is indeed a disgrace and a clog in the wheels of progress in the country. It has over time constituted stumbling blocks in our quest for improved revenue earnings from crude oil sales and distribution. It has perpetuated a regime of astronomical fraud that has brought the country to its knees over the years. “We find it difficult to understand why the NNPCL is uncomfortable with the smooth operations of a wholly indigenous organization that has made substantial investments in the country to address the energy challenges that have continued to eat deep into the revenue of the country through fraudulent practices. “We wish to state that the NNPCL is an organization of heists. We also wonder why the NNPCL is the sole off-taker for PMS from the Dangote refinery. The implication is that the NNPCL still wants to perpetuate fraud in the pricing and distribution of PMS across the country. This much was evident in its hurried false statement that Dangote sold PMS at N868 per liter to it. “It also failed to inform the general public that the current stock of crude procured by Dangote refinery was in dollars, hence the payment in dollars. The NNPCL went further to create an impression that the retail price of PMS is fixed by the Dangote refinery. “The actions of the NNPCL imply that there is a subtle attempt to create an impression that the importation of PMS is cheaper than local production hence the falsehood that the Dangote refinery sold PMS at N868 per litre. This is so because the NNPCL is a beneficiary of the fuel subsidy scam that has impoverished the Nigerian people for decades. “The NNPCL has refused to allow the local refineries to operate because of the fraud it is perpetuating in the importation of PMS into the country. Therefore, the operation of the Dangote refinery would bring to an end their fraudulent activities, which is essentially why they have been working against the operations of the Dangote refinery. “It is obvious from all indications that the NNPCL is the albatross of the Nigerian people. Its operations have been opaque and shrouded in secrecy. “It is thus obvious that the coming of the Dangote refinery has unsettled the Mele Kyari-led NNPCL, hence the recent drive to frustrate its smooth takeoff for the benefit of Nigeria and Nigerians. It remains a shame that Nigeria as an oil-producing country still relies on the importation of PMS from other countries while our refineries lay comatose. “ The coalition questioned why NNPCL, led by Mele Kyari, is uncomfortable with Dangote Refinery's operations, considering its substantial investments in addressing Nigeria's energy challenges. The group called on NNPCL to cease its "slander campaign" against Dangote Refinery, warning of potential legal action against NNPCL and the federal government. The coalition emphasized that Nigerians have suffered enough due to NNPCL's lack of transparency and accountability. "We urge NNPCL to bring to a halt the slander campaign it has ferociously launched at the Dangote refinery," Dan said. “We wish to state that the elephant in the room is the lack of transparency and accountability in the affairs of NNPCL. Nigerians have suffered enough in the hands of the Mele Kyari-led NNPCL. Enough is enough. “

Coalition Berates Zamfara Gov Dauda Lawal for Financing Banditry, Illegal Gold-Mining for Selfish Gains ***Calls for Arrest of Bandits' Sponsors A coalition, Centre Against Banditry and Terrorism (CABT), has condemned Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, for allegedly financing banditry and illegal gold-mining activities in the state for personal gain. Speaking at a press conference, Executive Director, Yakubu Dauda, accused Governor Lawal of paying terrorists and subversive elements over N1.3 billion to sustain his profit from illegal mining activities. Dauda revealed that the funds were paid to notorious terrorist kingpins, including Kachalla Dogo Gide, Kachalla Bello Turji, and Ado Alero, among others, to unleash more mayhem on communities with gold deposits. The coalition demanded a full investigation into the sponsorship of terrorism in the North West, calling for the prosecution of all persons connected with the insecurity in Zamfara State and the North-West. Dauda urged anti-graft agencies to confirm the transactions, freeze accounts associated with the beneficiaries, and put them on trial for terrorism financing. “Contrary to the lies told in the approval, Governor Lawal’s main motive is to sustain his profit from illegal mining activities which is his sole business. The funds paid to the terrorists seem to have been for them to unleash more mayhem on communities with gold deposits especially since there has been an uptick in attacks in the aftermath of the payments,” the statement said. “For context, the funds transferred to these terrorists were done solely at the discretion of Governor Lawal. There is nowhere in the approval that states that this criminal enterprise was undertaken with neighbouring states or the federal government. “The expenditure of this amount for arming terrorists and mobilising subversion of the Nigerian state did not pass through the Zamfara State House of Assembly as well if only to secure its rubber stamp approval. “It is worrisome that Governor Dauda Lawal and the Zamfara State Government have not cleared the air on this criminal payment to terrorists since the leak of that document. Governor Lawal’s silence is an acceptance of culpability. “This must now attract consequences because the evil he perpetrated in Zamfara affects the whole of Nigeria.” CABT praised the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Muhammad Bello Matawalle, for his efforts in reviewing the ongoing anti-banditry and counter-terrorism operations in the North-West region, expressing hope that the banditry problem would soon be addressed. The group said his review of the ongoing anti-banditry and counter-terrorism operations in the North-West region has reassured us that the banditry problem will one day be a thing of the past. “The Centre Against Banditry and Terrorism (CABT) terrorism can only end if we all join hands to take the war to the sponsors of the terrorist gangs. We demand a full investigation of those behind the sponsorship of terrorism in the North West,” the statement said. “We expect that Mr President will issue an Executive Order to accelerate the naming and prosecution of all persons connected with the insecurity in Zamfara State and the North-West to rid that part of Nigeria of terrorism. “We urge the anti-graft agencies to confirm the transactions in the document, freeze all accounts associated with the listed beneficiaries, and put the recipients on trial for terrorism financing.” READ THE FULL TEXT BELOW *BEING THE TEXT OF A PRESS CONFERENCE HELD IN ABUJA ON THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 5, 2024 BY CENTRE AGAINST BANDITRY AND TERRORISM ON THE COLLAPSE OF THE SECURITY SITUATION IN THE NORTHWEST OF THE COUNTRY OCCASIONED BY THE REVELATION THAT THE GOVERNOR OF ZAMFARA STATE, DAUDA LAWAL, IS PAYING BANDITS AND OTHER SUBVERSIVE ELEMENTS TO UNDERMINE SECURITY IN THE REGION AND BY IMPLICATION ACROSS NIGERIA.* Protocols, Gentlemen of the press, you must by now be familiar with a distributed released in the public domain showing the approval by Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal that authorised payment of the sum of One Billion, Three Hundred and Seventy-Eight Million Naira (N1,378, 000,000) to terrorists, bandits and other subversive elements that are responsible for the insecurity, killings and kidnappings plaguing the north-west and other parts of Nigeria. Contrary to the lies told in the approval, Governor Lawal’s main motive is to sustain his profit from illegal mining activities which is his sole business. The funds paid to the terrorists seem to have been for them to unleash more mayhem on communities with gold deposits especially since there has been an uptick in attacks in the aftermath of the payments. For context, the funds transferred to these terrorists were done solely at the discretion of Governor Lawal. The expenditure of this amount for arming terrorists and mobilising subversion of the Nigerian state did not pass through the Zamfara State House of Assembly as well if only to secure its rubber stamp approval. Just to be clear, Governor Lawal paid the “BANDITS KINGPINS” as follows: (1.) Kachalla Dogo Gide = N200,000,000 (2.) Kachalla Bello Turji = N200,000,000 (3.) Ado Alero N200,000,000 (4.) Kachalla Halilu Sububu N150,000,000 and (5.) Gwaska Dan Karami N150,000,000. He also paid subversive elements, who he described as “MEDIA PROMOTERS” as follows: (6.) Sahara Reporters N100,000,000 (7.) Jackson Ude = N158,000,000 (8.) Bashir Hadejia = N100,000,000 (9.) Shuaibu Mungadi = N50,000,000 (10.) Tijjani Lamaran N50,000,000 (11.) Danbilki Kwamanda = N20,000,000. We want to note a few other things immediately. Firstly, the approval had this clause, “implement the project” which left us wondering. What project? The payment cannot be “the project” since the payment is meant to get the terrorists to commit to certain deliverables. What are these deliverables? Secondly, is the directive for the “state ministry of finance to release the said amount for distribution to the beneficiaries listed above as a matter of urgency.” Since this approval was from July 2, 2024, the funds have been disbursed to these criminals. Kachalla Dogo Gide Kachalla Dogo Gide is a vicious terror kingpin linked to the abduction of 137 students from elementary schools in Kaduna State sometime this year. He is also one of the suspected masterminds of the attack on a Kaduna-bound train and runs the biggest kidnap-for-ransom franchise in Nigeria. Kachalla Bello Turji Kachalla Bello Turji is a bloodthirsty notorious terrorist and bandit kingpin who has left a trail of death in the northwest. Turji led a bandit gang in the 2022 Zamfara massacres that killed hundreds of people including women and children. Bashir Hadejia Bashir Hadejia is in the custody of security agencies being investigated for allegedly masterminding the August 2024 #EndBadGoernanceInNigeria violent protest in the north of the country. Hadejia was arrested for treason, subversive activities against the Nigerian government, trans-border gun-running, heist and other transnational crimes. Jackson Ude United States-based fugitive, Jackson Ude, a self-acclaimed investigative journalist and promoter of the infamous blog pointblanknews.com, has been running pro-terrorist propaganda for the group. Known for regularly blackmailing and extorting, high profile Nigerians, Ude recently attempted to spin a narrative to exonerate Bashir Hadejia following the latter’s arrest. Sahara Reporters (Omoyele Sowore) Sahara Reporters’ publisher, Omoyele Sowore, is not new to controversial payments. He has been accused in the past of accepting funds from foreign interests to undermine the sovereignty of Nigeria. Sowore has become a permanent fixture on the ballot for presidential elections, a position he uses for leverage since he spins his arrests for subversive activities as a clamp down on the opposition. These are brief profiles of some recipients of Governor Lawal’s N1.35 billion. These are persons who have declared it their life mission to bring Nigeria down. These are persons whose actions and activities have led to the spilling of the blood of innocent Nigerians. Payments to these persons have made citizens despondent. It is worrisome that Governor Dauda Lawal and the Zamfara State Government have not cleared the air on this criminal payment to terrorists since the leak of that document. Governor Lawal’s silence is an acceptance of culpability. This must now attract consequences because the evil he perpetrated in Zamfara affects the whole of Nigeria. We are only fortunate by the ray of hope offered by the Minister of State for Defence, Dr Muhammad Bello Matawalle, through his visit to the Nigerian Army’s 8th Division Headquarters in Sokoto State. His review of the ongoing anti-banditry and counter-terrorism operations in the North-West region has reassured us that the banditry problem will one day be a thing of the past. Gentlemen of the press, the Centre Against Banditry and Terrorism (CABT) terrorism can only end if we all join hands to take the war to the sponsors of the terrorist gangs. We demand a full investigation of those behind the sponsorship of terrorism in the North West. We expect that Mr President will issue an Executive Order to accelerate the naming and prosecution of all persons connected with the insecurity in Zamfara State and the North-West to rid that part of Nigeria of terrorism. We urge the anti-graft agencies to confirm the transactions in the document, freeze all accounts associated with the listed beneficiaries, and put the recipients on trial for terrorism financing. Yakubu Dauda Executive Director.

*Civil rights group calls for investigation of Matrix Oil over importation of blended crude, violation of sanctions on Russian oil* The Centre for Accountability and Transparency (CAAT) has called for an investigation into Matrix Oil's importation of blended crude oil, alleging violation of international sanctions on Russian oil. Speaking at a press conference, convener Okwa Dan claims Matrix Oil's actions have caused economic sabotage, environmental pollution, and health risks to Nigerians. The group alleges that Matrix Oil imported adulterated petroleum products from Malta, resulting in a $2.8 billion bill for Nigeria in 2023 alone. Dan adds that the company's actions violate international sanctions on Russian crude oil, which could lead to diplomatic crises for Nigeria. "The oil products imported from Malta by this company are also dirty on the ethical level because it is the product of the violation of international sanctions imposed on Russia to deter it from waging an unjust war on a sovereign nation, Ukraine, which it invaded," the statement said. "The sanctions capped the purchase of Russian crude at $60 per barrel but the landing cost claimed by Matrix Energy Limited is confirmation that they are paying higher than the capped price for Russian crude that they blend and refine in Malta. This exposes Nigeria to diplomatic crises that could further compound all that we are going through. "But what we are now seeing is that the quarry is now hunting the hunter. The company indicted in the importation of the dirty petrol, Matrix Energy Limited, is now using the judiciary to hound media organisations that publish stories of its economic sabotage against Nigeria. "Matrix Energy Limited its chief executive officer, Abdulkadir Adisa Aliu, has asked a Federal Capital Territory High Court to stop media houses from publishing stories about its tainted oil importation. "This futile effort on the part of Matrix Energy Limited flies in the face of Section 22 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) as it stipulates that 'The press, radio, television and other agencies of the mass media shall at all times be free to uphold the fundamental objectives contained in this Chapter and uphold the responsibility and accountability of the Government to the people'. "Had the indicted company conducted its damaging deal alone perhaps it would have had recourse to the court stopping citizens from asking questions. But to the extent that it allegedly ran this racket in collusion with the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited, Mallam Mele Kyari, government business is involved. Since the government is involved media houses have the responsibility to report and hold the government accountable. "Section 39 of the 1999 Constitution also declared that “every person shall be entitled to freedom of expression, including freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information without interference”. As Nigerians, we will do all that we have to do to get information about things that affect us as humans and contaminated petrol that causes us economic ruin, and environmental damage and destroys our health is of interest to us to the extent that Matrix Energy Limited cannot curtail." CAAT urged the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest and prosecute those involved in the alleged economic sabotage. The group also called on the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) to investigate Matrix Oil for causing harm to consumers and the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) to assess the environmental impact of the tainted oil products. Furthermore, CAAT requested that the Price Cap Coalition, comprising the G7, the European Union, and Australia, impose targeted sanctions on Matrix Oil and its officials for violating sanctions against Russia. The statement added: "There are reports that it instituted this suit to shield accomplices in NNPCL and other members of its cabal. We at the Centre for Accountability and Transparency (CAaT) urge Matrix Energy Limited and its CEO to toe the path of honour and give up the detailed list of its collaborators and their modus operandi instead of bluffing with litigation and trying to gag the press. Not even the military junta of yore were able to repress the ever-vibrant Nigerian media. "Since we have seen that Matix Energy Limited and its accomplices, including those in the NNPCL are recalcitrant and unwilling to stop their economic sabotage, the CaaT is calling on the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest and prosecute every one of those that have committed the acts of economic sabotage and violated the international sanctions imposed on crude oil of Russian origin. "We further invite the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) to investigate Matrix Energy Limited since the dirty fuel it distributed in the country has caused harm to consumers in different forms including economic losses occasioned by damaged automobiles and generators. "The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) must similarly look into the impact of these tainted oil products on the environment to cause the cessation of further importation of such and to make the culprits behind it pay the relevant fines."

According to the claimants, the Defendants who are the authors of the above libelous publication deliberately, carelessly, intentionally and maliciously authored same in the words reproduced above, knowing fully well that the words as authored and published by them to the whole world, and as concerning the Claimants meant in their natural and ordinary meaning in the estimation of all right thinking persons in the society to be the following: That the 1st Claimant is conniving with economic enemies of Nigeria to import adulterated, substandard/low quality petroleum products into Nigeria. Billy Osawaru, Other Rep Members Accused of Corruption, Risk Recall Over Support for Alleged Oil Sector Fraud Some members of the House of Representatives led by Hon. Billy Osawaru have been threatened with recalls over their perceived support for the corruption regime in the country’s oil and gas sector. The Save Nigeria Proactive Coalition (SNPC) which made this known in a press statement on Friday also accused Osawaru and others of receiving over $10 million as kickbacks to support the nation’s oil regulatory agencies. This comes after the House of Representatives called for the investigation of the international oil companies (IOCs) in Nigeria for allegedly conspiring to frustrate the survival of Dangote Oil Refinery and Petrochemicals. The House had also demanded the sack of Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) boss Farouk Ahmed with Mele Kyari of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPCL) Limited coming under serious pressure. In a statement co-signed by its National President and Secretary General Arome James Otairu And Bilikus Adamu, the Save Nigeria Proactive Coalition described Osawaru and his colleagues as “dishonourable members of the National Assembly who are masquerading as agents of the people, but their actions betray their true allegiance to corruption and mismanagement.” The group, therefore, dared Osawaru’s other “faceless” lawmakers to publish their full identities and constituencies within the next 24 hours and see if their constituents would not recall them. Additionally, the Coalition said it would not hesitate to mobilise Nigerians against Osawaru and his cohorts in Abuja, Lagos, and Kaduna to force them to resign after Kyari and Ahmed had been shown the way out. “We are outraged and disappointed by the actions of some so-called 50 lawmakers who rallied support for Mele Kyari and Farouk Ahmed, despite their glaring failures and incompetence in managing the oil industry,” the statement said. “These dishonourable members of the National Assembly are masquerading as agents of people, but their actions betray their true allegiance to corruption and mismanagement. “Their attempt to shield Kyari and Farouq from accountability is a clear indication of their complicity in the massive failure, corruption, and mismanagement that has characterised the oil industry under their watch. “It is unacceptable that they would prioritize the interests of these failed appointees over the welfare of Nigerians who are suffering from the consequences of their incompetence. “We warn these lawmakers that their actions will not go unchallenged. Their constituents will not forget their betrayal, and they will be held accountable for their actions. “We call on Nigerians to begin the process of recalling these lawmakers who have clearly demonstrated that they are not representing the interests of their constituents. “Their threat to the investigative committee to be impartial is a clear indication of their desperation to cover up the truth. “We demand that the committee ignores their threats and continues to uncover the truth behind the failures in the oil industry. Nigerians deserve to know the truth, and those responsible must be held accountable. “Furthermore, we challenge these lawmakers to disclose the source of the $10 million received to run their scheme, with only 12 lawmakers invited by Hon. Billy Osawaru, who is notorious for raising nebulous groups within the new members' caucus to attract favour from the House leadership. This is a clear case of corruption and abuse of office. “We demand that Kyari and Farouq resign and go home, or face the wrath of Nigerians who will not hesitate to call for their removal. Their continued presence in office is an insult to the intelligence and patience of Nigerians. “We also call on President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action to address the crisis in the oil industry. The removal of Kyari and Farouq is a necessary step towards restoring sanity and accountability in the industry. “Furthermore, we demand that these dishonourable lawmakers publish their full identities and constituencies within the next 24 hours. We dare them to make this information public and see if Nigerians will not recall them within 21 days. “Their constituents have the right to know their true representatives and hold them accountable. We are confident that once their identities are revealed, Nigerians will take swift action to recall them. “Finally, we warn these lawmakers that their actions will have consequences. They will be forced to face the wrath of Nigerians who will not tolerate their antics forever. “We will organise mass protests and rallies to demand their resignation and ensure that they are held accountable for their actions. We will not rest until they are removed from office and replaced with true representatives of the people.” |
Three groups, Take It Back (North Central), Middle Belt Economic Forum, and Renewed Hope Prosperity Ambassadors have called off the planned protest in the Northern states, including Abuja. The groups cited concerns about the potential for destabilization and harm to their communities as the reason for their decision. The groups which made this known at a joint press conference on Tuesday in Abuja said the decision was made after a careful appraisal of the situation and a fruitful interaction with the Minister of Water Resources, Prof Joseph Utsev. In his address, Dr. Amodu Ben also commended the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume and other critical stakeholders in the North Central for their efforts in maintaining peace and order in the region. "We have come to this decision not out of fear or intimidation, but out of a deep understanding of the current political climate and the potential consequences of our actions," said Dr. Amodu Ben. Ben said they also took into account the developmental programs being driven by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's development agenda. The groups recognized the right to protest as an inherent and fundamental aspect of citizenship but emphasized the need for peaceful and constructive dialogue to avoid catastrophic consequences. Ben observed instances where peaceful protests have rapidly escalated into violent confrontations, resulting in widespread destruction, loss of life, and immense human suffering. They, however, urged citizens to redirect their energies towards constructive dialogue and engagement with the government. "Let us join forces to build a brighter future for the Middle Belt region, one that is founded upon the principles of peace, prosperity, and cooperation," Dr. Ben said. "We would like to seize this opportunity to express our heartfelt commendation to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and other critical stakeholders in the North Central," he said. “Their tireless efforts in maintaining peace and order in the region have not gone unnoticed, and their dedication to the well-being of our nation is truly commendable. “These exceptional individuals have demonstrated a remarkable commitment to prioritizing the interests of our nation above personal agendas, exemplifying a profound understanding of the intrinsic value of peaceful coexistence and the preciousness of human life, which is a cherished asset to families, states, and our country as a whole. “We also extend our unreserved and heartfelt commendation to President Tinubu for his indefatigable efforts in constructing the nation of our collective aspirations. Notwithstanding the formidable challenges, he remains steadfast in his endeavors, tirelessly striving to alleviate the burdens of our citizens and enhance their overall well-being. “We acknowledge and appreciate the President's diligent efforts to improve the lives of citizens, and we must unite in our support and collaboration with him to achieve our shared objectives. The President's development agenda, as exemplified by the initiatives of the Ministry of Water Resources, serves as a testament to his unwavering commitment to the nation's progress and advancement. “Let us join forces to build a brighter future for the Middle Belt region, one that is founded upon the principles of peace, prosperity, and cooperation, and where the collective efforts of our citizens can flourish, yielding a harmonious and thriving society for generations to come.”

*ETI Disowns Statement Against Reps Deputy Spokesperson Agbese, Accuses Ex-Members of Impersonation* ***Says sack of NNPCL, NMDPRA leadership long overdue The Energy Transparency Initiative (ETI) has disowned a statement made by individuals claiming to be its representatives, criticizing Hon. Philip Agbese, the Deputy Spokesperson of the Federal House of Representatives. The group's President and Secretary, Francis Nedu and Ismaila Bello in a joint statement, revealed that the persons were expelled long ago due to fraudulent activities and other abuses that contravened the group's objectives. "We are shocked and dismayed that these individuals would continue to impersonate ETI and make statements that do not reflect our values and mission," the statement read. "Their actions are a clear attempt to blackmail and extort money from innocent parties, and we condemn their behaviour in the strongest terms. "The leadership of ETI is aware that some government agencies have released as huge as $500,000 to the impostors to blackmail Hon. Philip Agbese and other National Assembly members who want sanity in the oil and gas sector." The statement expressed support for Hon. Agbese's claims of deliberate attempts by the Nigerian Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to discredit Dangote Refinery company. The group said Agbese demonstrated exceptional leadership and courage in "exposing the truth" and applauded his efforts to protect Nigerian entrepreneurs and promote indigenous businesses. "Agbese's dedication to serving the people and upholding the principles of fairness and transparency is exemplary," the statement added. "He has shown that he is a true representative of the people, and his actions have earned him the respect and admiration of many. We are proud to support him and stand by him in this matter. "NNPCL and NMDPRA have shown a clear bias towards International Oil Companies (IOCs) and have consistently frustrated the efforts of Nigerian entrepreneurs. "Their actions are a disservice to the nation and undermine the government's efforts to promote indigenous businesses." The ETI, therefore, expressed support for the House of Reps call for the Chief Executive Officer of NMDPRA, Farouk Ahmed to resign. "Agbese's reiteration of the House's earlier call for the NMDPRA boss to be sacked is the position of many Nigerians who mean well for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu," the statement said. "We believe that the dismissal of the NNPC Group CEO Mele Kyari is long overdue as well. The ETI calls on President Tinubu to take immediate action to address this issue and ensure that these regulatory agencies serve the interests of the nation, not just a select few." ETI, however, said that it had taken legal action against the imposters and already involved law enforcement agencies to ensure that they were brought to justice. "We will not tolerate any attempts to impersonate our organization or make false statements that damage our reputation," the statement noted. "We urge all stakeholders to remain vigilant and uphold the principles of fairness and transparency. We will continue to monitor developments and ensure that all actions and policies are aligned with the national interest, free from undue influence or partisan agendas." |
*Youth Network Lauds Tinubu, Ben Kalu Over South East Development Commission* The Nigerian Youth Network (NYN) has commended President Bola Tinubu and Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, on the signing of the South East Development Commission (SEDC) bill into law. In a statement signed by its national president, Comrade Francis Arinze, the group praised President Tinubu for his visionary leadership and commitment to the development of the South-East region. According to Arinze, the assent to this bill demonstrates his administration's dedication to addressing the region's infrastructure deficits and promoting economic growth. The group further hailed Ben Kalu, the main sponsor of the bill, for his tireless efforts in championing the cause of the South-East. Arinze noted that his leadership and advocacy have been instrumental in bringing this legislation to fruition. "The SEDC bill is a landmark achievement that will have far-reaching benefits for the South-East region," he said. "It will facilitate the reconstruction and rehabilitation of critical infrastructure, promote economic development, and enhance the quality of life for the people of the region. "Moreover, this bill comes as a beacon of hope for a region still reeling from the devastating effects of the civil war 54 years ago. "The SEDC will play a crucial role in rebuilding and restoring the region, bringing healing and closure to the people. "Furthermore, the SEDC will not only fast-track development in the southeast but also help in restoring peace to the region. "By addressing the underlying issues of poverty, unemployment, and infrastructure decay, the commission will help to reduce tensions and conflicts, creating an environment conducive to peace and stability." The group, therefore, urged all stakeholders, particularly the youths of the South-East, to rally round President Tinubu and support his administration's efforts to develop the region. "We believe that the signing of the SEDC bill into law marks the beginning of a new era of development and prosperity for the South-East," Arinze added. "We are confident that President Tinubu's administration will continue to work tirelessly to address the region's challenges and promote its growth. "We commend the Deputy Speaker for his leadership and commitment to the development of the South-East. We pledge our support for the President's administration and urge all Nigerians to do the same." |
Rivers: Group blasts pro-Wike lawmakers for calling for arrest of CTC chairmen, members ***accuses them of trying to destabilise the state*** A pro-democracy group, the People’s Congress, has slammed the factional Rivers State House of Assembly, loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for calling on the Nigeria Police Force to arrest the chairmen and members of the 23 LG Caretaker Committees in the state. In a statement issued today, Dr. Nicholas Udenta, President of the group, said the Martin Amaewhule and his co-travellers are simply calling for anarchy in the state and their call should be disregarded by the law enforcement agencies. "It's obvious that Martin Amaewhule and his co-travellers are still brooding the lost of their membership of the the Rivers State Assembly following their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress. They have themselves to blame; they were aware of the position of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on defection of lawmakers before choosing to commit political suicides," the statement said. "Their continous vendetta and plots against the government and people of Rivers State are getting out of hand and they need to stop playing politics with the development of the state. "The latest show of shame by these imposters, pretending to be lawmakers was their unlawful call for the Police to arrest the duly-constituted Caretaker Committee Chairmen and members in Rivers State. The world knows that after the expiration of the tenure of the LGA Chairmen, the Governor Siminalayi Fubara's administration constituted Caretaker Committees to man the affairs of the local governments pending the next election as any responsible government would have done. "But in their usual nature of witch-hunting any progress made by the Fubara's administration, the disgruntled former lawmakers are now shamelessly calling on the Nigeria Police to arrest the members of the duly-constituted Caretaker Committees. "Their call is tantamount to calling for anarchy. We urge the good officers and men of the Nigeria Police and other law enforcement agencies to disregard the call of the saboteurs pretending to be lawmakers. They are out to destabilise Rivers State and should be completely ignored or better still, arrest for attempting to incite anarchy in the state." |
Governor Lawal Accused of Connection with Banditry The Citizens United Against Terrorism (CUAT) has accused Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State of having a strong connection with bandits. The group also asked the governor to explain the source of a video which attempted to link predecessor and Minister of State Defence, Bello Matawalle, to banditry. The Citizens United Against Terrorism made this known at a press conference on Tuesday in Abuja. In his address, Comr. Obinna Francis said the state has witnessed a surge in attacks by bandits who are allegedly receiving protection, benefits, and favours from the governor. He noted that alarming reports have surfaced indicating that bandits are now utilizing more advanced weaponry than ever before, exceeding the arsenal previously seized from vanquished bandit groups during the preceding administration. The group cited the video released by a notorious bandit leader supposedly implicating the Minister of State Defence as the handiwork of the governor. "This alarming revelation has sparked widespread concern and scrutiny, prompting questions about the potential collusion between political figures and criminal entities," he added. "A pertinent inquiry arises regarding the circumstances under which the spokesperson of the Governor of Zamfara State was the first to view the video, raising suspicions about their possible connections with the bandits. "The fact that the incriminating video, featuring the Minister of Defence and former Governor of Zamfara State, surfaced publicly through the spokesperson of the current Governor of Zamfara, warrants a thorough examination." The Citizens United Against Terrorism also expressed concern over Governor Lawal's inability to stem the tide of banditry, despite his oath of office to serve and protect the people. "We firmly believe that this situation warrants a heightened scrutiny of the current governor's actions, rather than solely focusing on the past administration's tenure," Francis said. The group accused Governor Lawal of abandoning his duties and absconding to Enugu State, where he indulged in celebratory festivities, while the security situation in Zamfara continued to deteriorate. "We regret to say that Governor Dauda Lawal has proven himself unworthy of leading a state like Zamfara, and his despicable actions in the face of these recent events demand a thorough and rigorous investigation into his alleged connections with the bandits responsible for the chaos," Francis said. The group, therefore, demanded that Governor Lawal provide a comprehensive explanation to the people of Zamfara regarding the nature of his relationship with the bandits and seek clarity on the concrete measures he is taking to address the escalating crisis.
