Lawyer Drags First Bank Before CBN Over Allegation Of N550m Fraud


A civil society organisation, Centre For Socio and Economic Justice, has dragged First Bank of Nigetia before the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, over allegation of funds diversion to the tune of N550m.

The centre called on the CBN to revoke the license of First Bank of Nigeria for unsafe practices and adding customer's finds are supposed to be safe with the bank.

According to a letter dated May 29, 2024, the Director of the centre, Barrister U. I. Mohammed, said a customer of the Bank, Dr. Agbai Eke Agbai, who has been a dedicated and resourceful customer of the First Bank of Nigeria Ltd “First Bank” with Fixed Deposit Account numbers – 6924010002639 and 5021000788976 whose funds amount to the tune of ₦ 550,000,000.00 was illegally diverted, misappropriated and fraudulently taken by the bank.

A copy of the letter received at the Security Services Department of the CBN which was also sent to First Bank said a staff of the bank, Mrs. Shamlar Abosi, who is supposed to be the account officer of Dr Agbai, illegally tampered with her client's account.

Parts of the petition titled, "PETITION AGAINST FIRST BANK OF NIGERIA FOR FRAUD, DIVERSION AND MISAAPROPRIATION OF FUNDS BELONGING TO DR. AGBAI EKE AGBAI" read, "In 2014, Mrs. Shamlar Abosi, a staff of First Bank approached DR. AGBAI EKE AGBAI to deposit funds in First Bank for a Return on Investment, DR. AGBAI EKE AGBAI after listening to the advice of Mrs. Shamlar Abosi accepted to deposit funds in the bank for an agreed interest rate.

"Fixed Deposit Accounts were subsequently opened for DR. AGBAI EKE AGBAI with the above-mentioned account numbers. The sum of ₦ 300,000,000.00 (Three Hundred Million Naira) only was deposited in Account number-6924010002639 which took effect on the 21st day of February, 2018 with interest rate of 14.5% with 364 days tenor, and the sum of ₦250,000,000.00 (Two Hundred and Fifty Million Naira) only was deposited in Account Number -5021000788976 which took effect on the 19th day of October, 2018 with interest rate of 14.5% with 364days tenor.

"After the maturity date of the investment which is on the 20th of February, 2019 and 18th of October, 2019 respectively, In September, 2023, DR. AGBAI EKE AGBAI informed First Bank of his intention not to renew the investment and requested his money to be transferred to his saving Account domiciled with the bank with Account number-3079342444 immediately.

"Unfortunately, the money requested by DR. AGBAI EKE AGBAI to be transferred to his savings account has not been credited till date after numerous effort to remind the bank of its failure to carry out the request.

"It is also noteworthy and remarkable that Mrs. Shamlar Abosi who persuaded DR. AGBAI EKE AGBAI into investing in the Bank, who is also the account officer and business manager of the investment has failed to provide explanation regarding the money of DR. AGBAI EKE AGBAI."

Barrister Mohammed said it is without doubt that the funds deposited in the Fixed Deposit Account numbers – 6924010002639 and 5021000788976 by Dr. Agbai Eke Agbai has been criminally and fraudulently diverted by First Bank without his consent or notice.

He said after sending their agent and officer, Mrs. Shamlar Abosi to persuade him into investing in the bank, the Bank has failed to refund the money illegally taken from him despite the numerous pleas, warnings and notices.

"We urge the Central Bank of Nigeria to investigate the fraudulent activities enumerated above, refund the money stolen and illegal diverted by First Bank, and to invoke its powers bestowed on it under Section 12 of the Banks and other Financial Institutions Act, 2020 by revoking the license of First Bank of Nigeria for unsafe practices and other fraudulent dealings", the centre said.

“This is brilliant because digital literacy skills help individuals understand the importance of securing their online information and the potential cyber-attack risks. It also enables individuals to use tools to secure their digital assets.

“We must also admit that social media is integral to our lives today. Digital literacy skills are essential for using it safely and responsibly as they enable individuals to identify potential risks associated with social media, such as cyberbullying, identity theft, and phishing attacks. The Civil Society Situation Room on Matters of Governance in Nigeria has commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State for his outstanding commitment to people-oriented reforms, policies, and programmes.

A coalition of civil society groups has commended the Governor of Niger State, Governor Umar Bago, for his exemplary leadership and remarkable achievements in various sectors, particularly in agriculture and infrastructure development.

The North Central Transformation Ambassadors, at a press conference held in Abuja, praised Governor Bago's administration for its commitment to transforming the state's economy and improving the lives of citizens.

In his address, the convener of the group, Dauda Yakubu, said the Governor's innovative approach to governance has made Niger State a model state in the north-central region.

Yakubu added that the Governor has has brought about a new era of development and prosperity in the entire zone, highlighted by his transparency, accountability and integrity.

”Since assuming office, Governor Bago has hit the ground running, taking governance to unprecedented heights. His few months in office have been nothing short of remarkable. Beyond mere enthusiasm, he has translated his vision into tangible action, expending extraordinary energy to address long-standing challenges that had plagued the state for years,” the statement said.

This initiative has alleviated the burden of transportation costs for the citizens, especially students and civil servants, demonstrating the governor’s commitment to the welfare of the people.

”Furthermore, Governor Bago has prioritized education and healthcare, recognizing these sectors as crucial pillars for the advancement of any society. “Through strategic investments in agricultural infrastructure and provision of support to farmers, his administration has significantly bolstered the agricultural sector, thereby stimulating economic growth, fostering a sense of pride and self-sufficiency among the people of Niger State, and contributing substantially to the state's food security.”

The group further said Governor Bago's leadership has brought hope and renewed confidence to the people of Niger State, urging him to continue his good work.

While calling on other state governors to emulate Governor Bago's leadership model, which they described as “people-centred and development-oriented” Yakubu called on Nigerlites and indeed the entire north-central to continue to support the governor.

A group of concerned citizens and stakeholders across the country gathered on Friday at the Presidential Villa and the National Assembly Abuja, calling on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing crisis affecting the Kano Emirate.

The protesters, who marched peacefully, carried signs and banners expressing their concerns about the escalating situation in Kano. They urged President Tinubu to use his good offices to resolve the crisis and ensure the restoration of peace and stability in the state.

Recall that Governor Abba Yusuf dissolved the five Emirates Council and reinstated Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano. This came after the governor signed the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024 into law.

Under the auspices of the Concerned Patriots of Nigeria, the group said Governor Yusuf has taken his abuse of office to another level by dissolving the traditional council.

“A lot had been going wrong in the state but the Concerned Patriots of Nigeria had thought it best to allow Kano state to sort out its thorny issues. However, Thursday’s brash actions of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, who sacked five emirs to reappoint Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi as the 14th Emir of Kano has awoken us to the urgency of raising the alarm about the destructive excesses of the state governor, “ coordinator Abdullahi Muhammed Saleh said.

“Since being sworn into office, Governor Abba Yusuf has a string of loutish acts that run like a hardened criminal’s rap sheet. All in the name of rubbishing his predecessor, he started with a demolition spree that has served to impoverish the people whose lives he took an oath to improve. Thus he proved himself to be anti-people.

“The governor then attempted to destroy the structures of political parties in the state. The impish fanaticism with which he pursued this illicit mission saw him intruding into the structure of other political parties, including hiring some charlatans who purportedly suspended the national chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, who is interestingly his predecessor. Thus he proved himself to be anti-democratic.

“This latest stunt of sacking five emirs to install his acolyte was achieved by manipulating the Kano State House of Assembly, which he had successfully turned into a rubber stamp for endorsing his illegal acts. He has eroded the autonomy guaranteed by the separation of powers as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

“It is inconceivable that any right-thinking person will descend low to the point of manipulating the traditional institution for political gimmicks. The humiliation meted out to the five emirs was most unbecoming and we have cause to believe that Abba Yusuf has set the stage for using the traditional institution as ancient and as esteemed as that of Kano for a political seesaw will continue since his successor will revert to the five emirates. The Kano governor has thus proven himself to be the anti-traditional institution leader.”

The Concerned Patriots of Nigeria, therefore, condemned the actions of the Kano State Governor in the strongest terms possible given its anti-reason disposition.

“The governor’s choice of actions flies in the face of reason and has no place in a sane and civilised society. We urge Governor Yusuf to retrace his steps and stop further undermining the peace of Kano state and by implication the peace in Nigeria,” the statement added.

“We also condemn the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) – dominated Kano State House of Assembly that they have cemented their place as a conclave of shame to have reverted into a mere rubber stamp for the megalomanic tantrums of the state governor.

“They, alongside Governor Yusuf, have taken their desperation to an extent that could set the ancient city on fire and cause breaches in the land. We are here today to appeal to President Tinubu to intervene in the Kano Emirate crisis.

“The situation would deteriorate by the day, and we need the President's urgent attention to prevent further breakdown of law and order. We believe that President Tinubu's intervention is crucial at this critical moment. We are counting on his leadership to find a lasting solution to the crisis and ensure peace returns to Kano State."

Benue: Political Parties Raise Alarm Over Authoritarian Rule, Anti- Democratic Policies of Fr. Alia's Government.


The Coalition of Political Parties in Benue State and the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) have raised alarm over authoritarian rule and anti- Democratic policies of Reverend Father Alia in Benue state.


The group while releasing its  one-year assessment report on the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia in Abuja on Thursday described it as  the worst since the return of democracy in 1999.


The parties are the Accord Party,  APGA, Zenith Labour Party, Boot , APM, NRM, APP, ADC as well as the NNPP


Tor Aondofa Paul of the National Rescue Movement,  Simon Ogbe of the Zenith Labour Party and  Bishop Benson Ijachi   of the  Accord Party who addressed the media said the governor has failed in security, transparency and accountability.


They further lamented that the administration has become synonymous with corruption, disregard for the rule of law, unfulfilled promises, abuse of office as well as thuggery.  


"We all know that the primary responsibility of every government is the protection of lives and property. Since Governor Alia assumed power, the security situation in Benue State has deteriorated as compared to how it has been in the last four years. Since he assumed office, no single operational vehicle has been bought for the security agents in Benue State to support their operations in the state," the statement said.


"We have witnessed a massive influx of cows and armed Fulani herdsmen in the state despite the existence of the law prohibiting open Grazing in Benue State. These herdsmen are complicit in the renewed insecurity in the state as they have been fingered in several killings and attacks on innocent Benue people in Guma, Logo, Gwer-Wesr, Makurdi, Otukpo, Agatu, Apa, Gwer-East, Kwande, Ukum and Ado local government areas of the state. Just a few weeks ago the chief of staff to former governor Samuel Ortom, Pastor Terwase Orbunde was attacked on his farm along the Welfare quarters - Mobile Police barracks road in the heart of Makurdi. While Orbunde survived the attack with bullet wounds, his wife and house help were kidnapped. They were only released a few days later after a ransom was paid to the herders.


On corruption, transparency and accountability, the statement added: "The Alia administration is notorious for total disregard for due process and the rule of law. Shortly after Governor Alia assumed office, the governor without constituting an executive council awarded a contract to the tune of N6 billion, an amount which is 120 times higher than the approval limit of the governor at the time the contract was awarded. Most of these contracts were neither approved by the previous Benue State Executive Council nor captured in the 2023 budget.


"We are all witnesses to the governor's total disregard for the rule of law. Less than 4 weeks in office, the governor sacked and replaced democratically elected local government council chairmen and councillors in the state with a caretaker committee despite a judgment by the National Industrial Court restraining him from doing so. Governor then went further to approach a court of coordinate jurisdiction (Benue State High Court) seeking to set aside the judgment of the National Industrial Court, Makurdi Division, which restrained him from sacking the 23 elected local government chairmen and councillors.


"In Benue State today, Governor Hyacinth Alia has not disclosed the wage bill of the state, all the revenue accruals to the state from Federation Allocation Account Committee (FAAC), internally Generated Revenue (IGR) grants and Special Interventions from the FG. Even the palliatives from the federal government to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal were only disclosed after much pressure from the opposition for the governor to do so.


"The administration of Fr. Hyacinth Alia has failed to meet up with his social contract with the people of Benue State. The promise to return the Internally Displaced Persons, (IDPs) to their ancestral homes, and clear all the salary and pension arrears within 100 days have remained a mirage. The governor is doing the opposite of what he promised during campaigns.


"Under the reign of Governor Hyacinth Alia, abuse of freedom of speech, threat to fundamental human rights and gagging of the press is the order of the day. Just a few weeks ago, the member representing Vandeikya/Konshisha in the House of Representatives, Hon. Sesoo Gboko was forcefully stopped from worshipping his creator (God) at a Thanksgiving organized in his honour at Tsuwe Daka, Shangev-Tiev, Konshisha local government area of Benue State by thugs allegedly sponsored by the caretaker chairman of Konshisha local government area, Philip Achua and the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Aondowase Kunde.


"Up till now, Governor Hyacinth Alia has not condemned the violation of the fundamental human rights of the federal lawmaker by his appointees. The right of political parties to assemble freely has also been taken away from them. In Benue State, the governor for selfish reasons, has placed a ban on political gatherings, where people perceived to be his opponents, including members of his party(APC) are barred from meeting because of their loyalty to the Secretary of the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume."


On the resurgence of thuggery: "Thuggery disappeared from Benue Politics in 2015. From May 29, 2015, to May 29, 2023, thuggery was not part of Benue Politics as no political party patronized thugs as those dared to indulge in acts of thuggery were dealt with according to the law, be it under an APC or PDP administration.


"However, with the emergence of Hyacinth Alia as governor, thuggery has been elevated to the status of a state religion. The administration of Rev. Fr. Alia has reintroduced thuggery in the state under the guise of Benue State Central Youths. A good number of the so-called central youths are reputed for criminality and thuggery."


The group, therefore, called on President Bola Tinubu to beam his searchlight on the state of the affairs in Benue State and intervene to curtail the executive rascality, corruption, abuse of the fundamental rights of Benue citizens, total disregard of the rule of law and all the anti-democratic tendencies of the Alia administration.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday in Abuja, Nwogu Ndubisi, the convener of the coalition, added that the efforts have not only bolstered the Nigeria Police Force but also instilled hope and confidence in the citizens they serve.




According to Ndubisi, Arase’s tenure has been marked by a commitment to citizen-oriented policing, transparency, and accountability, which have done much to improve security.

Some prominent Nigerians from the north have disassociated themselves from remarks credited to a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, about the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Under the auspices of the Northern Congress for Change (NCC), the group said Lawal doesn’t represent the interest of the north, noting that his assertions are unfounded and spurious.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday in Abuja, convener of the group, Dr. Ben Amodu, said that President Tinubu in less than one year in office has already outdone done better than his predecessor Muhammadu Buhari.

Amodu said the current administration has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to inclusive leadership, skillfully balancing the diverse socio-political and religious inclinations of the nation.

The group, therefore, accused corrupt individuals like Lawal to be behind campaign against the President as they will remain inconsequential and irrelevant in a discussion of prosperous government.

“Despite the vociferous opposition from unpatriotic elements who have long benefited from the corrupt subsidy regime, President Tinubu remains resolute and focused on his comprehensive agenda, undeterred by the cacophony of criticism from those hell-bent on perpetuating the status quo,” the statement said.

The Civil Centre on Security and Governance (CCSG) has appplauded the Nigerian Navy for its dedication and commitment to securing national assets and increasing government revenue.

The Centre gave the commendation after a systematic assessment of the efforts of the Navy in addressing the malaise of oil theft that has affected the country's fortunes tremendously.

According to the Centre, the recent successes in the war against oil theft are a testament to the leadership and commitment of Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla and the bravery and dedication of the officers and men of the Nigerian Navy.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Emmanuel Agabi said the Chief of Naval Staff has introduced extraordinary operations such as Delta Sanity and went the extra mile to rejig the Forward Operating Bases of the Nigerian Navy in the Niger Delta region.

Agabi added that the deployment of ten warships, two attack helicopters, and 500 ballistic boats in a special amphibious exercise to curb crude oil theft and sea robbery in Nigeria's waters is a bold step towards securing our national assets.

“The results are impressive,” he said. “Nigeria recorded its highest oil production in almost two years, with crude oil production rising from 1.08 million barrels per day in July 2023 to an average of 1.38 million barrels per day in January and February 2024, representing a 300,000-bpd increase.

“Additionally, Nigeria's Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) export cargoes have increased from an average of 16 per month in 2023 to 21 monthly in the first quarter of 2024. The Nigerian Navy has also recovered over 62,000 barrels of crude oil, as well as close to a million liters of illegally-refined diesel, petrol, and kerosene; valued in total at almost 10 billion Naira.

“The dismantling of illegal refining sites, arrest of suspects, and seizure of vessels and equipment used for oil theft are all indicators of the Navy's success. The impact of the Nigerian Navy's efforts goes beyond the economic benefits; it also has a significant impact on the environment and the well-being of communities in the Niger Delta region.

“The reduction in oil theft and illegal refining has led to a decrease in oil spills and environmental degradation, which has a positive impact on the livelihoods of people in the region. We commend the Nigerian Navy for their dedication and hard work in securing our national assets and increasing government revenue”.

The Centre, therefore, applauded President Bola Tinubu over his choice of Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla as the Chief of Naval Staff.

Kano Probe: Independent CSO report exonerates APC National Chairman, Ganduje of any wrongdoing

The National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, has been exonerated of allegations of corruption.

The Coalition for Truth and Justice made this known in its preliminary report on the purported probe of the former Kano State Governor.

In the report signed by its convener Dr Okwa Dan, the Coalition said from8 its findings, there was an intense campaign aimed at character assassination and mischief against Ganduje.

The Coalition added that the alleged evidence presented against Ganduje on supposed bribery lacks the necessary clarity and direct linkage to establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Coalition for Truth and Justice, therefore, warned against the use of state apparatus to witch-hunt perceived political opponents.

“The Coalition for Trust and Justice wishes to use this medium to inform members of the public of the smear campaign, which does not reflect the realities on the ground with the allegations,” the statement said.

“The allegations remain a figment of the imaginations of its proponents, who have recently deployed enormous resources in the diatribe against Dr Umar Ganduje. It is instructive to note that Dr Umar Ganduje is targeted because of his position as the National Chairman of the APC, which has witnessed proactive leadership in managing the affairs of the APC.

“Our findings showed that the Kano state government elected to play in the gallery by spreading falsehood and giving a dog a bad name to hang. The recent probe is one such example of the slander campaign against Dr Umar Ganduje that can't be substantiated. It is a feeble attempt at tarnishing the image of the national chairman of the APC.

“To ensure we are not weighing in on the wrong side of history, the Coalition for Truth and Justice (CTJ) diligently examined the allegations of corruption levelled against Dr. Umar Ganduje,). Our preliminary findings are based on rigorous research, legal analysis, and adherence to principles of natural justice.

“The bribery allegations against Dr. Ganduje are serious and should have ordinarily merit thorough investigation. However, the allegations must be approached with fairness and objectivity, not the kind of lynch mob that the incumbent Kano State Government has convened. Our research reveals that the evidence presented lacks the necessary clarity and direct linkage to establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

“The probe, teleguided by Dr. Ganduje’s predecessor in the person of Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankawso, raises questions about its procedural integrity. The absence of due process, including proper documentation and adherence to legal protocols, undermines the investigation. Its credibility is eroded.

“Dr. Ganduje, like any other citizen, enjoys the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. As a result, we, place it on record that allegations alone do not constitute guilt. The burden of proof lies with the accusers.

“The allegations against Dr. Ganduje are mostly anchored on a piece of supposed video evidence. This widely circulated video allegedly showing Dr. Ganduje receiving bribes lacks authenticity and context. Without proper forensic analysis and verification, relying solely on this video undermines the pursuit of justice. We took note that the video evidence has been discredited. prior

“The entire episode, therefore, has all the markings of selective targeting. This raises several posers. Why focus solely on Dr. Ganduje when corruption allegations cut across various political offices? Why not have a holistic and comprehensive investigation that includes all relevant actors?

“After an extensive assessment of the allegations, the Coalition for Truth and Justice states that some vested interests are behind the slander campaign to cause untoward embarrassment to Dr Umar Ganduje.


The Coalition for Truth and Justice frowns at such a disposition that has the potential to elicit negative remarks on the personality of Dr Umar Ganduje. Given the findings of our preliminary analysis of the issues in focus, we boldly state this.

“Our findings revealed that the allegations have political undertones that were well intended towards mischief rather than facts or evidence. Therefore, the purported probe remains a waste of time and resources by the Kano State government.

“The Coalition for Truth and Justice wishes to state in unequivocal terms that Dr Umar Ganduje did not commit any infraction while in office as they would want the unsuspecting members of the general public to believe. The facts before us indicate a regime of transparency and accountability.

Th People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Solidarity Vanguard has blamed former Governor Nyesom Wike for the 'monumental loss' of about 25 Rivers State Assembly seats.

The PDP group accused the FCT Minister of using Hon. Amaewhule Martins and other ex-PDP lawmakers as cannon fodder in his ill-advised fight with his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

In December, the assembly members loyal to the immediate past governor defected to the All Progressives Congress in the wake of the political impasse involving him and Governor Fubara.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday in Abuja, Hon. Usman Saidu Calculus, the Executive Director of the PDP National Solidarity Vanguard described Wike as a saboteur working against the party.

Calculus said the former governor is blinded by his financial muscle and doesn't understand the true essence of leadership

"Wike, once a prominent member of our party played a pivotal role in this monumental loss. His actions have cost us dearly, and we cannot remain silent," the statement said.

"To the extent that he has weakened the party for the APC, we can no longer consider him a member of our party. He is already enjoying the 30 pieces of silver he sold the PDP for.

"We must express our anger, disappointment, and resolve to protect the integrity of the PDP. But why did this happen? Why did lawmakers who were elected on our platform abandon their mandates, and throw away twenty-five parliamentary seats in one day?

"The answer lies in the unchecked ambition of one man—Nyesom Wike. His financial muscle, while impressive, blinded him to the true essence of leadership. Money alone cannot sustain a political movement; it takes wisdom, humility, and a genuine commitment to the people. Only such arrogance that makes him continue to parade himself as a chieftain of the PDP even when his habitual treachery is glaring for all to see.

"Femi Falana (SAN), the legal luminary whose insights we respect, has rightly pointed out that political parties are not mere vehicles for personal gain. They are institutions that serve the collective interest of the citizens. Wike’s actions, driven by hubris and a disregard for due process, have undermined our party’s cohesion and unity. "

The PDP group, therefore, called on the party leadership to take decisive action and expel Wike from the party.

"Let this be a stern message to all who would put their ambitions above the party’s well-being and future. We cannot afford to lose more lawmakers or members in other states, especially when the stakes are now so high ahead of the next general elections," the statement added.

"Our solidarity vanguard stands firm. We will not waver in our
commitment to the PDP’s principles. Let us rally together, rebuild our ranks, and emerge stronger. Our party deserves leaders who uphold its values, not those who undermine them."

Group calls for immediate dismissal of Mahmood Gidado from NSCDC


A Group, the Citizens Initiative Against Corruption  has called for an mmediate dismissal of Assistant Commandant General (ACG) Mahmood Gidado Fari from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).


 In a letter addressed to the Minister of Interior, Tunji Ojo, dated May 7th, 2024, and signed by its National President, Comrade Hussain Danladi, the organization levied grave allegations against ACG Fari, including gross misconduct, abuse of office, and rape, among others.


The scathing letter alleges a litany of offenses committed by ACG Gidado, asserting that his actions flagrantly violate the Public Service Rules. Described as a personification of serial arrogance and misconduct, ACG Gidado stands accused of multiple transgressions, ranging from insubordination to abuse of human rights.


Of particular concern is the allegation of sexual assault, with ACG Gidado purportedly being implicated as a serial rapist who targets female officers under his authority. This egregious behavior directly contradicts the principles upheld by the NSCDC and undermines its commitment to enforcing constitutional provisions, including those relating to gender equality and human rights.


Furthermore, the letter highlights ACG Gidado's suspension for gross insubordination towards the Minister and the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Board. Despite his suspension, ACG Gidado allegedly continues to engage in malicious activities, including sponsoring defamatory articles against the NSCDC and engaging in partisan political endeavors, in violation of Public Service Rules.


The allegations against ACG Gidado extend beyond his conduct within the NSCDC. It is claimed that he has a history of involvement in illicit activities, including recruitment and arming of terrorist groups during his tenure as State Commandant in Nasarawa State. Additionally, he is accused of financial impropriety, fraudulent behavior, and evasion of promotion exercises over a decade.


Despite his self-proclaimed academic credentials, ACG Gidado's integrity is called into question, with allegations of academic deceit and moral bankruptcy casting a shadow over his purported qualifications.


The Citizens Initiative Against Corruption contends that ACG Gidado's continued presence in the public service not only undermines the integrity of the NSCDC but also poses a threat to the administration's efforts to combat corruption and restore trust in government institutions. They argue that his dismissal would serve as a deterrent to others with similar inclinations and send a clear message that misconduct will not be tolerated.

Yahaya Bello: Lawyers drag EFCC Chairman to UN, UK, threatens Viaa ban


Some legal practitioners in the country have dragged the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Olanipekun Olukoyede to the United Nations, United Kingdom and other international nations.


At a press conference on Friday in Abuja, the lawyers accused the EFCC boss of flagrantly disregarding valid court orders and breaching the constitutional rights of Nigerians. 


In his address, Barr. Emmanuel Agada said the team have already began measures to institute visa ban on Olukoyede should he continue to trample on the rights of Nigerian citizens, the way he did to former Governor Yahaya Bello.


Agada said that the lawyers are also considering blocking international funding and support to the EFCC should Olukoyede continue on this path.  


The statement reads: “As young lawyers, we envisage a judiciary where justice is not only done but manifestly seen to be done. It is in our patriotic quest to always pursue ventures that guarantee an independent judiciary that dispenses justice without fear nor Favour that we formed this civil society of lawyers. 


“It is in the pursuit of this mandate that we have written to the United Nations High Commission For Human Rights, the United States of America, through its embassy in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, through its Nigerian embassy and the European Union as bastions of democracy and Human Rights to investigate the flagrant disregard of a valid Court Order and breach of constitutional rights of Nigerian citizens by the EFCC chairman, Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede and caution him. 


“As you know, we have already written to Mr. President who has started on a good trajectory and began to enjoy the massive support of overwhelming majority of Nigerians, to call the EFCC chairman in order not to allow his desperation to use the institution to pursue political objectives to bring this administration to public odium and opprobrium. 


“In our petition to the above mentioned bodies, we were strong in our call for the EFCC chairman to be cautioned and should he continue to disregard Court Orders and Injunctions, and trample on the rights of Nigerian citizens, the way he did against former Governor Yahaya Bello, a comprehensive and total Visa Ban must be implemented and international organizations who support the commission via funding must be enjoined to stop forthwith until the commission purges itself of every unconstitutional approach in exercising their constitutional mandate. 


“We are aware that the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) provides expertise, guidance and support to UN human rights teams. These teams have recorded huge success in many countries through coordinated human rights sustainability initiatives. It is why we have called for their intervention to help strengthen our institutions and safeguard human rights and dignity of Nigerian citizens.


“Nigerians must begin to take hard decisions to shape our country and its institutions for the better. We must not allow individuals to corrupt the very institutions that brought so much reprieve when corruption ate deep into the very fabrics of our existence. 


“Our main objective as lawyers is to push for the respect of the judiciary and stronger institutions whose mandate will never be dictated by political or social affiliations. “

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Solidarity and Development Forum has denounced the state chairman of the party over the call for the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The group, which made this known at a press conference on Thursday in Abuja, described the utterances by Chief Tony Okocha as reckless, and irresponsible, threatening the very fabric of our democracy.

In a statement co-signed by Comrade Kabir Matazu and Hon. Igwe Ude-Umanta, its convener and co-covener, the group said a call for impeachment is a clear attempt to destabilize the government and create chaos in the state.

The APC Solidarity and Development Forum further criticised the APC chairman for his blatant disrespect of President Bola Tinubu.

"The President himself, in his wisdom, has called for all parties involved in the disagreement to maintain the status quo and work towards a peaceful resolution," the statement said.

"Governor Fubara has heeded this call and has demonstrated his commitment to the vision of inclusivity and good governance that our dear president has upheld since assuming office.

"In the reality of having to work with people of diverse political affiliations, President Tinubu has successfully built a government devoid of nepotism and marginalization.

"It will be unfair, and unwise for any party member, or individual not to resonate in the same frequency with our president. It is very disheartening to witness Chief Tony Okocha’s unguided utterances, which not only disregard the president's call for peace but also pose a threat to the stability and progress of our beloved party.

"We are appalled by the Chairman’s unguided fervour and lack of understanding of the complex challenges facing Rivers State. His actions are a dent in the respectable image and good representation of what our party stands for.

"It Is evident to everyone that Chief Tony Okocha has lost sight of the vision and principles of the APC, as his misguided loyalty has compromised the integrity and status of our party.

"By calling for the impeachment of Governor Fubara without justifiable cause, Mr Tony has not only undermined the unity and cohesion of our party but also endangered the very foundation of our democratic system."

The group, therefore, called on Okocha to resign immediately from his position as the Rivers State APC Chairman, adding that his "continued stay in office will only serve to further destabilize our party and the state at large."

*1,000 Protesters Storm Abuja, Demand EFCC Chairman Sack*

Thousands of protesters, on Monday, stormed the Federal Capital Territory to demand the immediate sack of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede.

Under the auspices of the Save Democracy Group (SDG), the protesters accused Olukoyede of breaching the law and disrespecting the judiciary.

In a statement signed by its convener Comrade Toyosi Moshood, the group also said that since his appointment, Olukoyede has denigrated the nation’s democracy and trampled on its rule of law.

Moshood further claimed that the EFFC under Olukoyede has derailed its core objectives and allowed itself to be used by desperate politicians to advance their selfish political interests and prosecute personal political vendetta.

The protesters, therefore, urged Olukoyede to step aside to restore the confidence of Nigerians in our public space and forestalls looting of public funds.

“The recent apparent disregard of court orders by the EFCC which was created to enforce the law is a testament of how the EFCC under the current chairman has become a shadow of its former self,” the statement said.

“The deliberate attempt to try innocent Nigerians online and smear their hard-earned reputations without first securing a conviction from courts of competent jurisdiction depicts the commission under Olukoyade as one which is at sea as to the best practices in the prosecution of economic crimes. He is hugely unfit to manage such and office and we call for his immediate sack.

“Every Nigerian is aware of the sacrifices of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other comrades who fought relentlessly to restore our dear nation to democracy after incessant and ruinous military rule.

“We call on Mr. President to use his good offices to remove bad eggs that do not align with his rich democratic ideals. The EFCC chairman has become a moral and political liability to Mr. President.

“His continuation at the helm of the agency calls to question, the avowed resolve of Mr. President to sincerely fight corruption. The style and approach of the EFCC under Olukoyade reminds Nigerians of the gory days of the military when institutions of government were deployed against perceived political opponents.

“We must, therefore, quickly remind Olukoyade that this is a constitutional democracy and every action of any institution of government must be carried out in an acceptable constitutional manner. “

Group rejects calls by IGP for merger of NSCDC, FRSC with Nigerian Police 


The Save Nigeria Movement,  SNM has condemned in strong terms the calls by the Inspector General of Police,  Kayode Egbetokun for the merger of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps  NSCDC,  the Federal Road Safety Corps,  FRSC with the Nigerian Police Force


SNM Convener, Solomon Semaka who addressed the media in Abuja said  its condemns  the ill-motivated and ill-timed call for the merger of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).  


He said While it'll be inimical to national security to merge those agencies, the SNM is particularly alarmed by the very thought of merging the NSCDC with the Police and view this suggestion as an attempt to undermine the extraordinary work the NSCDC is doing and find it rather strange that an already overwhelmed Nigerian Police Force (NPF) would be looking for more duties when it's obvious she's shirking her original responsibilities. 


"The Call by the inspector general of police for merger of NSCDC and FRSC with the NPF at a national dialogue event organized by the house of representatives is totally counterproductive and must be opposed by patriotic Nigerians . 


"We appreciate former president Jonathan and other statesmen who hold a different view with the IGP and stands strongly with every Nigerian on the existing support especially for the NSCDC excellent roles in maintaining stability especially in the protection of critical national assets. This is what the Corps needs and not the unsolicited suggestions of persons who have clearly demonstrated a lack of capacity to offer innovative leadership.


"It is rather disheartening that despite the clear position of the famous Orosanye Report which called for the strengthening of the NSCDC to enable it perform it's mandate creditably, the IGP regrettably holds a contrary view. Is the IGP questioning the authority of the Oronsanye report that recommended for the strengthening of the NSCDC? Is he just playing on the intelligence of Nigerians who overwhelmingly welcomed the report and are looking forward to it's full implementation? Clearly, the IGP's motive is nothing but sinister and a mere inter agency rivalry that should be discouraged by all patriots.


"Only few weeks ago, the NSCDC destroyed over 10 illegal refineries in the country. This is clearly in line with the Mr. President's economic recovery plan and the need to meet Nigeria's OPEC quota as well as the desire for Mr President to push up oil production to two million barrels per day. Again, the NSCDC has responded to the incidences illegal mining by introducing the Mines Marshals to curb illegal mining and boost revenues. This is unprecedented and worthy of commendations. Even with these high impact achievements, does the IGP prefer a merger to strengthening the Corps to continue to expand on its mandate of restoring Nigeria's economic glory by thwarting saboteurs?


"We make bold to state that this clandestine move to usurp the mandate and modest vision  of the NSCDC can not stand especially at a time like this when the nation is looking up to the NSCDC to scale up its interventions that have seen a sharp reduction in vandalism, crude oil theft and school abductions amongst other laudable achievements. The NSCDC has clearly established itself as a credible security outfit in a class of it's own with well spelt out duties and responsibilities. It is therefore unfortunate for the IGP to even contemplate such an insidious suggestion. The NSCDC has come to stay and if any organisation feels challenged by their professional prowess, they should step up their game and perform better than the Corps rather than becoming a stumbling block.


"Nigerians and indeed the entire Civil Society community is unanimous in acknowledging the enormous contributions of the NSCDC in all aspects of national life. They have distinguished themselves in the area of counterterrorism, prevention of vandalism, combating crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region, providing and sharing intelligence towards resolving complex cases of kidnapping and ransom taking by breaching the logistics chain of kidnappers and bandits in country and many other engagements with other sister security agencies. It is therefore unacceptable to us that such a suggestion is even contemplated at all and we as civil society organizations will resist  any  attempt to advance this call beyond the mere pronouncement of the IGP at the National Dialogue on State policing event. 


"We are all witnesses to how school abductions and kidnappings were almost becoming an everyday occurrence in Nigeria before the NSCDC stepped in to salvage the situation. The Safe Schools Initiative of the NSCDC has clearly brought us results in the safety of our  school children as they've made schools safe and secured across the country. The Nigerian Police Force does not have the capacity to safeguard our schools and other critical national assets especially our oil assets in the Niger/Delta region.   By seeking a merger, the IGP is simply seeking to expand  the mandate of the NPF and possibly does not care about the security of lives and property beyond the hypocrisy of 'the Police is on top of the situation' that has never taken us anywhere.


"It is worrisome that the NPF now copies every policy of the NSCDC. For instance the it has successfully copied the Safe Schools Initiative, the Mines Marshals, CG's SIS and many other impactful innovations from the NSCDC. Calling for a merger after copying the agency that you seek to portray as inadequate is pure jealousy. The plan to undermine the NSCDC by the IGP despite strong national calls for strengthening is dead on arrival and must not be given a second thought.


"Furthermore, the introduction of the Commandant General's Special Intelligence Squad (CG's SIS), the NSCDC has pioneered modern techniques in espionage and has collaborated and clearly complimented other security agencies in intelligence gathering and sharing to achieve certain breakthroughs in the security of the country. Asking for the merger of an agency that has employed topnotch innovations and has been open to synergising with other security agencies for the security of the country is an unpopular thing that should not be entertained. It is our informed opinion that this merger proposal can't help the country and should be discountenanced entirely and completely.


"The NSCDC high-tech surveillance infrastructure is one of its kind in the whole of the African continent. If the NPF is challenged by achievements like this that have made the NSCDC Nigeria's favourite security agency, they should simply seek for joint trainings to learn from the Corps rather than seeking a merger with the agency. The Nigerian Police Force and indeed the IGP must know that it takes professional training, enhanced welfare packages and motivation to produce efficient personnel. The NSCDC has come a long way and calling for its merger will not be tolerated especially when the NPF has no viable roadmap to ensuring Nigerians security including that of its national critical assets.


"Ladies and gentlemen, with this pronouncement, the IGP lends himself as someone  who is only interested in controlling  multiple agencies without really understanding that those agencies are distinct and can't be merged with the NPF. What the IGP needs to do at the moment is to undertake reforms that will reposition the Police Force and empower it to handle criminal matters and ensure Internal security of lives and property. The proposal for  merger will not solve the poor motivation, indiscipline and corruption that has become synonymous with the NPF. A merger will only worsen the already embarrassing situation that has become a badge of Nigerian Police Force. The IGP should therefore focus on revitalising the NPF in the best interest of the country.


"Ladies and gentlemen, we will rather call for the strengthening of the NSCDC by the federal government  to carry out its mandate effectively and compliment the other security agencies in enhancing national security. More logistic facilities including the establishment and equipping of more Command and training Centers across all the Local governments that make up the country will go a long way in solidifying their presence and creating the necessary impact. This is more patroitic and productive than a merger


"As we come to an end, we want to insist that the the NSCDC must remain an independent security entity. Infact, without the NSCDC, the Nigerian Police Force will clearly be overwhelmed as it is clearly not equipped to engage productively with civilians and gather intelligence like the NSCDC. The Nigerian Police Force should therefore seek to learn from the NSCDC towards improving their engagement with civilians and rather than seeking a merger which will not benefit the country" he said

*Governance: Centre rates Kano as poorest performing state in Nigeria*

Kano State has been ranked as the poorest-performing state in the country since the advent of the new administration in May 2023.

The Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CEDEHUR) made this known in its quarterly report on governance across the 18 states with new governors.

In the report made public at a press conference on Tuesday in Abuja, the Centre said its assessment was based on the transparency, accountability, quality of appointees and impact of policies on citizens.

Speaking on behalf of the Centre, Amb. Adebayo Lion Ogorry said Kano ranks bottom for good government, noting that the current administration has instead focused on political structures to the detriment of the people.

“Kano is one of the States whose Governor has gotten it wrong on several fronts,” the report said.

“From available statistics, the State is enmeshed in a series of political activities that have affected governance considerably.

“From interviews conducted with stakeholders in the state, it was gathered that the State Governor is bereft of ideas on tackling the State's socio-economic issues.

“It was also gathered that his choice of political appointees was hinged on political considerations and not based on experience and capacity.

“There was also evidence of gross abuse of office evident in political persecution of perceived political opponents through irrational decisions that have boomeranged and affected the progress of the state.

“Available reports also indicated an astronomical lack of transparency and accountability in utilising State resources.

“The State Governor was observed to have neglected governance in pursuit of political vendetta. The Governor of Kano State has allowed governance in the State to take a worrisome turn, thereby affecting sustainable growth and development substantially.

“From available reports, he appears to be a misfit who cannot think critically towards addressing the socio-economic issues in the state.”

The Centre for Democracy and Human Rights, therefore, said the governor has been abysmal and his leadership style so far brought governance to its knees.

It advised the governor to design a developmental blueprint to address the various issues in the state.

President Bola Tinubu has received a vote of confidence from youths across the 19 Northern states of the country for demonstrating an unalloyed commitment to the socioeconomic advancement of the region. 

Under the auspices of the Progressive Northern Youth Forum (PNYF), the group praised President Tinubu’s policies and appointments of its illustrious sons and daughters into key positions.

The youth leaders from the 19 Northern states, who converged in Abuja for a two-day conference to deliberate on the state of the nation, disclosed its findings in a communique made public through a press conference, on Tuesday.

Signed by its national president, Hon. Isah Usman Jabbi, the youths said President Tinubu’s economic policies have fostered growth, job creation, and investment which resonates with the aspirations of the North.

The communique added that the President has taken the necessary steps to address the issue of security across the region.

“President Tinubu’s signing of the Student Loan (Access to Higher Education) (Repeal and Re-enactment) Act, 2024 to enhance the implementation of the Higher Education Student Loan Scheme by improving the management structure of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELF),” it said.

“This singular development will the youth of the 19 Northern States to bridge the education gap, allowing them to get the education that will translate into the economic empowerment that will help the region to beat poverty.

“President Tinubu recognises the potential of our youth. His initiatives, such as vocational training programs, scholarships, and youth empowerment schemes, empower young Northerners to contribute meaningfully to society.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has displayed purposeful leadership in the country's governance with recognition of the strategic importance of northern Nigeria, hence the appointment of credible northerners in strategic leadership positions in the country. 

“The Federal Government’s appointments into positions have, therefore, been fair to the North, which has helped maintain the spirit of fairness that Nigerians expect from the leadership of their country.

“Delegates also highlighted the passion with which President Bola Ahmed Tinunbu had interacted with key decision-makers in northern Nigeria on his administration's policies and programmes and how the region's development is central to delivering the Renewed Hope agenda in the country. “

The youths, however, expressed concerns at some persons claiming to speak for the North, who have been castigating President Tinubu over phantom mistreatment of the North.

“PNYF members reviewed the utterances of such leaders and concluded that at no time were they mandated to speak for the 19 Northern States, which makes their assertions null and void within the context of contemporary Nigeria,” it added.

“The northern region will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu if he seeks reelection in 2027, and the north will vote massively for him. “

The youths, therefore, vowed to mobilise other youths across the North to rally behind President Tinubu’s leadership to build a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria.

Some youths in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Wednesday, led nearly one million other party supporters from across the country to its national secretariat, to show their support for Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje.

The youths, under the aegis of the APC Democratic Front said Alhaji Ganduje has shown purposeful leadership crucial to the party’s survival.

In his address, the convener of the group, Comrade Kabir Matazu, said under Ganduje's remarkable guidance, the APC has achieved landmark victories in various elections across the country.

The APC stakeholders, therefore, warned imposters to stay away from the party as they don’t mean well.

“Dr. Ganduje has not only strengthened our party but has also positioned us for success in future elections at all levels of government,” Matazu said.

“We must remain vigilant against opposition elements and internal saboteurs who seek to undermine our chairman's efforts.

Ganduje: Arewa berates Kano Gov over involvement in purported sack of APC National Chairman


***says Kano taxpayers’ money not for political wars


The Arewa Peace and Development Initiative (APDI) has fingered Governor Abba Yusuf at the centre of a purported plot to sack Alhaji Umar Ganduje as the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). 


The group further raised an alarm over a looming crisis in Kano State and the entire north over Governor Yusuf’s perceived political vendetta and witch-hunt of his predecessor. 


The Arewa group, which made this known at a press conference on Tuesday, also alleged that Governor Yusuf has diverted taxpayer’s to sponsor a series of protests, rallies and press conferences against Ganduje. 


In his address, Yakubu Dauda, the group’s convener claimed that the goal is to taint the personality of the APC National Chairman to a point where President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is forced to remove him from office.


“We have pondered the incentives that would make grown men behave in such an irresponsible manner but could only come to the conclusion that these men are desperate to eliminate Ganduje from the equation to pave the way for them to defect to the APC,” the statement added. 


“Some of their associates have hinted that even though they see no future for the NNPP in the 2027 General Elections both men are uncomfortable with being  Ganduje’s underlings in the APC.For us in the Arewa Peace and Development Initiative, our concerns are many. 


“First, we are worried about the implications of this kind of nefarious tactics for our polity, a situation where a political party, in this case, the NNPP, is allowed to criminally impersonate another party, the APC, to torpedo the latter’s leadership is utterly dangerous, condemnable, irresponsible and must not be allowed. 


“Secondly, we are worried about what Governor Yusuf and Kwankwaso plotted in planning violent crisis and unrest in Kano state is dangerous for the very reason that the violence they were bringing to the streets would most likely get out of control and spill to other Arewa states. 


“Given the other security threats and issues confronting Arewa such despicable desperation has no place in our current socio-political configuration such that the north must rise as one to exact consequences from Governor Yusuf and Kwankwaso for daring to undermine our collective wellbeing in such a manner.


“Furthermore, it is our firm belief that the people of Kano State deserve better. The money from their taxes and the state’s commonwealth should not be converted into a war chest from which some people, including those without any business with the state’s coffers, deploy to pursue their ambitions.”


The group, therefore, called on the APC at the state and national level to diligently pursue the investigation and prosecution of those who purported to have acted as the executives of the party’s Ganduje Ward to discourage the repeat of such by any other political bloc in Nigeria. 


It further demanded a comprehensive probe to unravel other people involved in the sham pulled by the Ganduje Ward Executive with a view to getting them to provide law enforcement agencies with information to stop the planned crisis.

The Citizens Watch Africa (CWA) has applauded Dr Aminu Maida for his efforts to revamp the telecommunications sector since his appointment as the EVC/ CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The group, at a press conference on Tuesday, said Maida has introduced laudable reforms to boost the confidence of stakeholders in the sector, translating to more investments in critical telecoms infrastructure.

In his address, convener of the group, Hon. Pastor Dave Ogbole said it came to this conclusion after an extensive scrutiny of the operations of the NCC in the last six months.

Ogbole said there has been a renewed drive to promote transparency and accountability by the NCC leadership led by Maida. 

“This has consequently led to an improvement in the organization's governance processes. The takeaway from this new drive is the disposition by the leadership of the NCC to ensure a level playing ground for all players in the sector,” he added.

“Citizens Watch Africa states that the new drive at the NCC has indeed re-positioned the agency for improved productivity. This has been evident in the various stakeholder engagement initiatives where feedback is gathered and examined to improve the sector.

 “We are using this medium to commend the leadership of the NCC. It is highly dedicated and committed to delivering on its key mandate. The new drive at the NCC has led to a steady increase in active voice and internet subscriptions, including a drop in teledensity. 

“It is instructive to state that the nation's teledensity dropped from 115.63% to 102.30% in September. Broadband penetration dropped from 45.47% to 40.85% in the same month. The active voice subscription statistics witnessed a marginal growth from 220,715,961 to 221,769,883 as of September 2023. In addition, Internet subscriptions also enjoyed a marginal increase, from 159,034,717 in August 2023 to 160,171,125 in September 2023.

“These are indicators of the renewed commitment by the NCC leadership to revamp the sector. Citizens Watch Africa salutes the dexterity and passion of the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr Aminu Maida. He hit the ground running with laudable policies to re-position the telecoms industry for optimal productivity. “

The group, however, encouraged Maida to continue to provide excellent leadership required at this critical point of our existence towards our drive for sustainable growth and development.

The Coalition for Truth and Justice (CTJ) has welcomed the proposed probe of Alhaji Umar Ganduje’s tenure as Kano State governor.

The Coalition, at a press conference on Monday, described it as a positive step towards accountability and transparency in governance.

Obinna Francis, the Convener of the Coalition, however, charged Governor Abba Yusuf to extend the probe to other notable individuals in the state such as Rabiu Kwanksaso.

Francis emphasised that selective justice is a threat to society everywhere in the world, hence the failure to investigate Kwankwaso and others will be seen as biased and political.

”The Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by the State Government to Investigate the immediate past administration in the state ought to start their investigation from 1999-2003 and 2011-2015 when 70 per cent of government properties were sold or fraudulently allocated to friends and families, and not just focusing on only 2011-2015,” the statement said.

“But it is unfortunate to bring to our notice that the magnanimous sharing of the state assets happened right under the nose of Abba Kabir Yusuf when he was the Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport. Should we infer that Mr Governor doesn’t know that he who lives in a glass house doesn’t throw stones!

”We all know It is a popular knowledge that the best way to kill a weed is from its root. Therefore, it is alarming that Governor Abba Yusuf seems to focus so much attention on killing the weed of corruption at the top with so much aggression, by solely focusing on witch-hunting the poor in Kano State, which is completely unacceptable.

“We believe that justice should be blind and impartial, regardless of one’s social or political status. Therefore, we call for a fair and comprehensive investigation that includes all relevant parties.

”Governor Abba Yusuf should be wise enough to know that it is only when the foundation of transparency is strong, that’s when corruption can be fully addressed.

”The relentless attacks on Chairman Ganduje by Governor Abba Yusuf and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso not only create a sense of instability in the political landscape of Kano State, but also undermine the democratic process. Instead of fostering healthy political competition and constructive dialogue, their actions fuel division and animosity. This not only harms the state’s political stability but also hampers the overall development and progress of Kano State.

”In light of these concerns, the Coalition for Truth and Justice urges Governor Abba Yusuf to extend his investigation to include the period when Rabiu Kwankwaso served as the Governor of Kano State. The government should be upright in its dealings by not selfishly restricting its investigation to between 2015 and 2023, but from 1999 till 2023. This will ensure that justice is served without bias or favoritism.

”It is no news there are rumors among the people of Kano that Governor Yusuf is dinning with Kwankwaso, and that is the reason he’s shielding him from any probe of corruption about his administration in Kano State. The governor must prove it to every Kano citizen that he who comes to equity, must come with clean hands, and this will be a welcome development by all.

”For the record, it can be noted that; From 2011-2015, the controversial five kilometer road projects in the 44 local governments were awarded and only for the funds to be misappropriated without the project being executed under the Kwankwaso administration.

”During the same period under review, over N3 billion naira was also earmarked for a particular project but misappropriated by Kwankwaso during his Presidential Campaign in Lagos when N70 million was released by each local government.”

Human Rights Violation:  Group demands immediate release of detained Nigerians by Police IRT


The International Federation of Human Rights, IFHR in conjunction with the Freelance Journalist Federation, ( FJF) have called on the Nigerian Police Force to respect human rights of civilians and immediately release the duo of Mustapha Buhari Aliyu and Aliyu Buhari Aliyu who are currently being unjustly incarcerated by officers and men of Intelligence Response Team (IRT)


The duo are currently being detained by the Nigerian Police on false allegations of involvement in kidnapping and ransom taking.

Rev Oduma Abel of the  FJF, Comrade Joshua Attah, the National Coordinator(IHRF) and Reverend Solomon Semaka Solomon of the Save Nigeria Movement, SNM spoke to the media in Abuja while reacting to the continued incarceration of the duo.

The group said the IRT of the Nigerian Police Force has been variously engrossed in gross violations of human rights with persistent and unabating complaints from a cross section of Nigerians.


They insisted that the most recent and most disturbing of these dastardly acts by the police Intelligence Response Team has been the bizarre invasion of Kagarko, a community in Kaduna State on the 21st of March, 2024 by IRT operatives and the gestapo styled abductions of two innocent brothers on the trumped up allegations of involvement in kidnapping and ransom taking. 


"The fact that this illegality has been committed at the instance of a known notorious bandit warlord who was out to take revenge on the innocent father of the two brothers has generated global attention and if left unaddressed might lead to a break down of law and order. This is totally unacceptable in a democracy and we are vehemently opposed to this rascality and illegality.


"Following repeated complaints and interventions from lawyers to the accused brothers, Y.C Maikyau & Co, an appeal from the Kagarko Emirate Council as well as an intervention from Human Rights Writers Association (HURIWA), a famous human rights watchdog exonerating the accused brothers and without the Nigerian Police Force granting the necessary reliefs sought by releasing the innocent victims, we decided, in line with our core mandate and responsibility as Pro- democracy Civil Society Organizations dedicated to minimizing incidents of human rights abuse by security agents, we undertook an independent fact finding mission to verify the presence and elements of human rights violations allegations against the Intelligence Response Team of the Nigeria Police Force" the group said


The group in its preliminary findings released to the media said,  "On  March 21 2024, some officers of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force according to eye  witnesses in a  gestapo manner invaded a local community in Kaduna State called Kargarko in an operation that ended up with the illegal arrest and abduction of two innocent citizens of Fulani origin, Mustpha Buhari Aliyu and his brother Aliyu Buhari Aliyu all children of Buhari Aliyu, all residents of Kargarko community. Credible sources in the course of our investigation revealed that the police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) acting on apparent instructions of a known  bandit and criminal in the community by name of Muhammad Sani alias "Abacha " was on a mission to carry out a threat earlier issued to the victims father by the same criminal bandit. All information and facts on the matter point to the glaring conspiracy by the officers of the IRT to undermine the rule of law in total disregard for human rights and professionalism just to please a notorious bandit.


"Our findings further indicate that following the illegal actions of the IRT of the police , the Kargarko Emirate Council, as well as the the president of the Nigeria Bar Association and other Community Based Interest groups wrote to attest to the innocence of the two victims who are being framed for kidnapping by the police. It is worth noting that no individual shall be arrested without a warrant and detained beyond ( 24) hours without being charged without a valid court order. The Nigeria Police Force in gross violations of both local and international laws have chosen to conspire with a known bandit just to teach the innocent victims and their father a lesson. 


"It is even more worrisome as reports have emerged that the said Sani Muhammad alias Abacha who is behind the continued incarceration of two innocent citizens is a known bandit who has been recruited into the Nigeria Police Force in the guise of police informant according to HURIWA in a release on March 30 , 2024 and signed by Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko" they said. This development has been collaborated by the Kargarko Emirate Council as well.


They further condemned in very strong terms the arrest of innocent civilians without any warrant or reasonable cause of action and more importantly without any charges before our law courts. We view the continued detention of two innocent citizens by the Nigeria police authorities as a dent on the vision of the current administration of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu which has subscribed fully to the rule of law.


They also called on the Inspector General of Police to  direct the affairs of the Nigeria Police Force in line with the rule of law so as to imbibe professionalism and respect for human rights by the rank and file of the Force. 


"We call on the National Human Rights Commission to investigate the circumstances of the illegal arrest and abduction and detention of Mustpha Buhari Aliyu and Aliyu Buhari Aliyu by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force and publish the report.


" We call on the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Human Rights and Public Petitions to intervene in order to save the state from consequences citizens revolt.


"We call on the United Nations Commission on Human Rights to intervene in the multiple cases of human rights abuse by the Nigeria Police Force and call the unconditional release of the victims who are currently held under dehumanizing conditions without probable cause by the police.


" We call on the Minister of police Affairs to intervene and call the police authorities to order so as to keep track with the vision and philosophy of Mr President which is clearly in favor of the rule of law.


" We demand for the unconditional release of the duo of Mustpha Buhari Aliyu and Aliyu Buhari Aliyu from police illegal detention as the police have nothing against the innocent civilian victims. 


" We state as a matter of fact that the duo of Mustpha Buhari Aliyu and Aliyu Buhari Aliyu who are currently being detained by officers of the police IRT are  law abiding citizens who are well known with cattle rearing as a legitimate means of livelihood and are not criminals as being portrayed by the police.


"We advice  the police authorities to take into consideration the mood of the country and act with professionalism so as to avert citizens revolt which could lead to the break down of law and order.


"We demand on all Human Rights groups and the media to call on the police authorities to release the innocent citizens who are unjustly been kept under custody  and desist from further abusing citizens rights.


"We demand to know if the Nigerian Police Force has any other agenda by arresting innocent people on the orders of criminal bandits and why are they not charging the victim to court as it is required by law? Why did the police Intelligence Response Team arrest without warrant? Why did they ignore the testimony of Kagarko Emirate Council on the innocence of the two victims? Why continued detention without trial? Is there any motive behind this? Is the Police Force trying to provoke crisis? These and many other questions are begging for answers and we expect the Nigerian Police Force to provide the needed answers and act professionally henceforth.


"Ladies and gentlemen of the press, armed with the above facts, we believe that as the conscience and mirror of the nation, you will prevail on the police authorities to release the innocent victims in order to restore citizen confidence in the police force. 


"Failure by the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) to heed our advice to take the path of rule of law by releasing the innocent victims under custody, we shall have no option than to protest against police brutality before the National Assembly, UN and the Human Rights Commission to register our collective displeasure with police brutality on citizens" they added

*Centre Raises Alarm Over Alleged Fraud, Illegality in NPA, Rivers Port*

The Save Humanity Advocacy Centre (SHAC) says it has uncovered alleged fraud and illegal operations at the Rivers Port purportedly under the watch of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).

The Centre said that it had received numerous petitions against Ibeto Jetty and its illegal labour operations to the detriment of the country's revenue.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, the Centre's Executive Director of Media, Comrade Jacob Okpanachi, said unregistered dock workers are currently operating foreign vessels.

According to him, the activities have diverted the government revenues which run into billions of naira while shortchanging the legitimate registered dock workers of their wages.

"We want to publicly share with Nigerians our feelings, frustrations and pains about the happenings in Rivers Port, which the NPA seems to have turned a blind eye to," Okpanachi said.

"In the past year, we have received several petitions from concerned Nigerians on the alleged illegal labour operations at the Ibeto Jetty, which has been a conduit pipe for siphoning government revenue by a few individuals.

"The arrangement stems from the erroneous approval granted to Ibeto Jetty to operate as a port, as a result of the disingenuous advice of the former Port Manager, Mr. Adamu Michael, through the former Executive Director of Marine and Operations, Onari Brown.

"We need to know the rationale behind the decision to allow unregistered dock workers to operate foreign vessels at a private Jetty while denying the government its through-put/ berthing fees and also under declaration of tonnage.

"Within a year of such activities, the activities have diverted the government revenues which run into billions of naira and counting, while shortchanging the legitimate registered dock workers of their wages.

"While the CEO of Ibeto is already facing a humongous fraud case at the Lagos Federal High Court, we are receiving more allegations of these under-table arrangements to the detriment of the dock workers and the Nigerian government in these times of scarce resources under the watch of the NPA management.

"Shipping agents have been lamenting how they can no longer carry out their legitimate business, the reason being that they cannot charge rates agreeable to the CPIU rates published by the same NPA."

The Centre, therefore, urged the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy to probe the activities of Ibeto Jetty and the Rivers Port to ensure a level playing field for all players according to the law.

President Bola Tinubu has been commended over the reappointment of Dr. Vincent Isiegbe as the Controller-General (CG) of the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS).

The Coalition of Stakeholders in the Agricultural Export And Pastoral Farming Sector made this known in a letter to the President through the office of the Minister of Agriculture.

The group said Isiegbe’s reappointment has again attested to President Tinubu’s resolve to assemble the most credible Nigerians to actualize his renewed hope agenda.

Describing Isiegbe as a man on a mission, the letter further said the NAQS CG flaunts vast experience and legacy of daring reforms, adding that he has brought financial prudence, novel innovations and administrative finesse to his job.

“As a coalition of groups of stakeholders in the agricultural export and pastoral farming sector, we write with every sense of responsibility, to rejoice with Your Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on the very commendable re-appointment of a technocrat cum performer, Dr. Vincent Isiegbe, as the CG of NAQS, despite the desperate and futile efforts of enemies of Nigeria to ensure he was not reappointed,” the letter said.

“This singular appointment has proven right our collective faith in the ability of Mr. President to assembling the most credible Nigerians to assist him in the actualization of his renewed hope agenda for the Nigerian people.
