*1,000 Protesters Storm Abuja, Demand EFCC Chairman Sack* Thousands of protesters, on Monday, stormed the Federal Capital Territory to demand the immediate sack of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede. Under the auspices of the Save Democracy Group (SDG), the protesters accused Olukoyede of breaching the law and disrespecting the judiciary. In a statement signed by its convener Comrade Toyosi Moshood, the group also said that since his appointment, Olukoyede has denigrated the nation’s democracy and trampled on its rule of law. Moshood further claimed that the EFFC under Olukoyede has derailed its core objectives and allowed itself to be used by desperate politicians to advance their selfish political interests and prosecute personal political vendetta. The protesters, therefore, urged Olukoyede to step aside to restore the confidence of Nigerians in our public space and forestalls looting of public funds. “The recent apparent disregard of court orders by the EFCC which was created to enforce the law is a testament of how the EFCC under the current chairman has become a shadow of its former self,” the statement said. “The deliberate attempt to try innocent Nigerians online and smear their hard-earned reputations without first securing a conviction from courts of competent jurisdiction depicts the commission under Olukoyade as one which is at sea as to the best practices in the prosecution of economic crimes. He is hugely unfit to manage such and office and we call for his immediate sack. “Every Nigerian is aware of the sacrifices of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other comrades who fought relentlessly to restore our dear nation to democracy after incessant and ruinous military rule. “We call on Mr. President to use his good offices to remove bad eggs that do not align with his rich democratic ideals. The EFCC chairman has become a moral and political liability to Mr. President. “His continuation at the helm of the agency calls to question, the avowed resolve of Mr. President to sincerely fight corruption. The style and approach of the EFCC under Olukoyade reminds Nigerians of the gory days of the military when institutions of government were deployed against perceived political opponents. “We must, therefore, quickly remind Olukoyade that this is a constitutional democracy and every action of any institution of government must be carried out in an acceptable constitutional manner. “

Group rejects calls by IGP for merger of NSCDC, FRSC with Nigerian Police The Save Nigeria Movement, SNM has condemned in strong terms the calls by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun for the merger of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC with the Nigerian Police Force SNM Convener, Solomon Semaka who addressed the media in Abuja said its condemns the ill-motivated and ill-timed call for the merger of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). He said While it'll be inimical to national security to merge those agencies, the SNM is particularly alarmed by the very thought of merging the NSCDC with the Police and view this suggestion as an attempt to undermine the extraordinary work the NSCDC is doing and find it rather strange that an already overwhelmed Nigerian Police Force (NPF) would be looking for more duties when it's obvious she's shirking her original responsibilities. "The Call by the inspector general of police for merger of NSCDC and FRSC with the NPF at a national dialogue event organized by the house of representatives is totally counterproductive and must be opposed by patriotic Nigerians . "We appreciate former president Jonathan and other statesmen who hold a different view with the IGP and stands strongly with every Nigerian on the existing support especially for the NSCDC excellent roles in maintaining stability especially in the protection of critical national assets. This is what the Corps needs and not the unsolicited suggestions of persons who have clearly demonstrated a lack of capacity to offer innovative leadership. "It is rather disheartening that despite the clear position of the famous Orosanye Report which called for the strengthening of the NSCDC to enable it perform it's mandate creditably, the IGP regrettably holds a contrary view. Is the IGP questioning the authority of the Oronsanye report that recommended for the strengthening of the NSCDC? Is he just playing on the intelligence of Nigerians who overwhelmingly welcomed the report and are looking forward to it's full implementation? Clearly, the IGP's motive is nothing but sinister and a mere inter agency rivalry that should be discouraged by all patriots. "Only few weeks ago, the NSCDC destroyed over 10 illegal refineries in the country. This is clearly in line with the Mr. President's economic recovery plan and the need to meet Nigeria's OPEC quota as well as the desire for Mr President to push up oil production to two million barrels per day. Again, the NSCDC has responded to the incidences illegal mining by introducing the Mines Marshals to curb illegal mining and boost revenues. This is unprecedented and worthy of commendations. Even with these high impact achievements, does the IGP prefer a merger to strengthening the Corps to continue to expand on its mandate of restoring Nigeria's economic glory by thwarting saboteurs? "We make bold to state that this clandestine move to usurp the mandate and modest vision of the NSCDC can not stand especially at a time like this when the nation is looking up to the NSCDC to scale up its interventions that have seen a sharp reduction in vandalism, crude oil theft and school abductions amongst other laudable achievements. The NSCDC has clearly established itself as a credible security outfit in a class of it's own with well spelt out duties and responsibilities. It is therefore unfortunate for the IGP to even contemplate such an insidious suggestion. The NSCDC has come to stay and if any organisation feels challenged by their professional prowess, they should step up their game and perform better than the Corps rather than becoming a stumbling block. "Nigerians and indeed the entire Civil Society community is unanimous in acknowledging the enormous contributions of the NSCDC in all aspects of national life. They have distinguished themselves in the area of counterterrorism, prevention of vandalism, combating crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region, providing and sharing intelligence towards resolving complex cases of kidnapping and ransom taking by breaching the logistics chain of kidnappers and bandits in country and many other engagements with other sister security agencies. It is therefore unacceptable to us that such a suggestion is even contemplated at all and we as civil society organizations will resist any attempt to advance this call beyond the mere pronouncement of the IGP at the National Dialogue on State policing event. "We are all witnesses to how school abductions and kidnappings were almost becoming an everyday occurrence in Nigeria before the NSCDC stepped in to salvage the situation. The Safe Schools Initiative of the NSCDC has clearly brought us results in the safety of our school children as they've made schools safe and secured across the country. The Nigerian Police Force does not have the capacity to safeguard our schools and other critical national assets especially our oil assets in the Niger/Delta region. By seeking a merger, the IGP is simply seeking to expand the mandate of the NPF and possibly does not care about the security of lives and property beyond the hypocrisy of 'the Police is on top of the situation' that has never taken us anywhere. "It is worrisome that the NPF now copies every policy of the NSCDC. For instance the it has successfully copied the Safe Schools Initiative, the Mines Marshals, CG's SIS and many other impactful innovations from the NSCDC. Calling for a merger after copying the agency that you seek to portray as inadequate is pure jealousy. The plan to undermine the NSCDC by the IGP despite strong national calls for strengthening is dead on arrival and must not be given a second thought. "Furthermore, the introduction of the Commandant General's Special Intelligence Squad (CG's SIS), the NSCDC has pioneered modern techniques in espionage and has collaborated and clearly complimented other security agencies in intelligence gathering and sharing to achieve certain breakthroughs in the security of the country. Asking for the merger of an agency that has employed topnotch innovations and has been open to synergising with other security agencies for the security of the country is an unpopular thing that should not be entertained. It is our informed opinion that this merger proposal can't help the country and should be discountenanced entirely and completely. "The NSCDC high-tech surveillance infrastructure is one of its kind in the whole of the African continent. If the NPF is challenged by achievements like this that have made the NSCDC Nigeria's favourite security agency, they should simply seek for joint trainings to learn from the Corps rather than seeking a merger with the agency. The Nigerian Police Force and indeed the IGP must know that it takes professional training, enhanced welfare packages and motivation to produce efficient personnel. The NSCDC has come a long way and calling for its merger will not be tolerated especially when the NPF has no viable roadmap to ensuring Nigerians security including that of its national critical assets. "Ladies and gentlemen, with this pronouncement, the IGP lends himself as someone who is only interested in controlling multiple agencies without really understanding that those agencies are distinct and can't be merged with the NPF. What the IGP needs to do at the moment is to undertake reforms that will reposition the Police Force and empower it to handle criminal matters and ensure Internal security of lives and property. The proposal for merger will not solve the poor motivation, indiscipline and corruption that has become synonymous with the NPF. A merger will only worsen the already embarrassing situation that has become a badge of Nigerian Police Force. The IGP should therefore focus on revitalising the NPF in the best interest of the country. "Ladies and gentlemen, we will rather call for the strengthening of the NSCDC by the federal government to carry out its mandate effectively and compliment the other security agencies in enhancing national security. More logistic facilities including the establishment and equipping of more Command and training Centers across all the Local governments that make up the country will go a long way in solidifying their presence and creating the necessary impact. This is more patroitic and productive than a merger "As we come to an end, we want to insist that the the NSCDC must remain an independent security entity. Infact, without the NSCDC, the Nigerian Police Force will clearly be overwhelmed as it is clearly not equipped to engage productively with civilians and gather intelligence like the NSCDC. The Nigerian Police Force should therefore seek to learn from the NSCDC towards improving their engagement with civilians and rather than seeking a merger which will not benefit the country" he said

*Governance: Centre rates Kano as poorest performing state in Nigeria* ***faults lack of direction, programs for common citizens Kano State has been ranked as the poorest-performing state in the country since the advent of the new administration in May 2023. The Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CEDEHUR) made this known in its quarterly report on governance across the 18 states with new governors. In the report made public at a press conference on Tuesday in Abuja, the Centre said its assessment was based on the transparency, accountability, quality of appointees and impact of policies on citizens. Speaking on behalf of the Centre, Amb. Adebayo Lion Ogorry said Kano ranks bottom for good government, noting that the current administration has instead focused on political structures to the detriment of the people. “Kano is one of the States whose Governor has gotten it wrong on several fronts,” the report said. “From available statistics, the State is enmeshed in a series of political activities that have affected governance considerably. “From interviews conducted with stakeholders in the state, it was gathered that the State Governor is bereft of ideas on tackling the State's socio-economic issues. “It was also gathered that his choice of political appointees was hinged on political considerations and not based on experience and capacity. “There was also evidence of gross abuse of office evident in political persecution of perceived political opponents through irrational decisions that have boomeranged and affected the progress of the state. “Available reports also indicated an astronomical lack of transparency and accountability in utilising State resources. “The State Governor was observed to have neglected governance in pursuit of political vendetta. The Governor of Kano State has allowed governance in the State to take a worrisome turn, thereby affecting sustainable growth and development substantially. “From available reports, he appears to be a misfit who cannot think critically towards addressing the socio-economic issues in the state.” The Centre for Democracy and Human Rights, therefore, said the governor has been abysmal and his leadership style so far brought governance to its knees. It advised the governor to design a developmental blueprint to address the various issues in the state.

*Northern Youths pass vote of confidence on Tinubu's polices, appointees* ***disown Elders working against Tinubu’s administration. ***appreciate President for appointing illustrious sons and daughters into key positions President Bola Tinubu has received a vote of confidence from youths across the 19 Northern states of the country for demonstrating an unalloyed commitment to the socioeconomic advancement of the region. Under the auspices of the Progressive Northern Youth Forum (PNYF), the group praised President Tinubu’s policies and appointments of its illustrious sons and daughters into key positions. The youth leaders from the 19 Northern states, who converged in Abuja for a two-day conference to deliberate on the state of the nation, disclosed its findings in a communique made public through a press conference, on Tuesday. Signed by its national president, Hon. Isah Usman Jabbi, the youths said President Tinubu’s economic policies have fostered growth, job creation, and investment which resonates with the aspirations of the North. The communique added that the President has taken the necessary steps to address the issue of security across the region. “President Tinubu’s signing of the Student Loan (Access to Higher Education) (Repeal and Re-enactment) Act, 2024 to enhance the implementation of the Higher Education Student Loan Scheme by improving the management structure of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELF),” it said. “This singular development will the youth of the 19 Northern States to bridge the education gap, allowing them to get the education that will translate into the economic empowerment that will help the region to beat poverty. “President Tinubu recognises the potential of our youth. His initiatives, such as vocational training programs, scholarships, and youth empowerment schemes, empower young Northerners to contribute meaningfully to society. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has displayed purposeful leadership in the country's governance with recognition of the strategic importance of northern Nigeria, hence the appointment of credible northerners in strategic leadership positions in the country. “The Federal Government’s appointments into positions have, therefore, been fair to the North, which has helped maintain the spirit of fairness that Nigerians expect from the leadership of their country. “Delegates also highlighted the passion with which President Bola Ahmed Tinunbu had interacted with key decision-makers in northern Nigeria on his administration's policies and programmes and how the region's development is central to delivering the Renewed Hope agenda in the country. “ The youths, however, expressed concerns at some persons claiming to speak for the North, who have been castigating President Tinubu over phantom mistreatment of the North. “PNYF members reviewed the utterances of such leaders and concluded that at no time were they mandated to speak for the 19 Northern States, which makes their assertions null and void within the context of contemporary Nigeria,” it added. “The northern region will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu if he seeks reelection in 2027, and the north will vote massively for him. “ The youths, therefore, vowed to mobilise other youths across the North to rally behind President Tinubu’s leadership to build a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria.

Ganduje: Arewa berates Kano Gov over involvement in purported sack of APC National Chairman ***says Kano taxpayers’ money not for political wars The Arewa Peace and Development Initiative (APDI) has fingered Governor Abba Yusuf at the centre of a purported plot to sack Alhaji Umar Ganduje as the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The group further raised an alarm over a looming crisis in Kano State and the entire north over Governor Yusuf’s perceived political vendetta and witch-hunt of his predecessor. The Arewa group, which made this known at a press conference on Tuesday, also alleged that Governor Yusuf has diverted taxpayer’s to sponsor a series of protests, rallies and press conferences against Ganduje. In his address, Yakubu Dauda, the group’s convener claimed that the goal is to taint the personality of the APC National Chairman to a point where President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is forced to remove him from office. “We have pondered the incentives that would make grown men behave in such an irresponsible manner but could only come to the conclusion that these men are desperate to eliminate Ganduje from the equation to pave the way for them to defect to the APC,” the statement added. “Some of their associates have hinted that even though they see no future for the NNPP in the 2027 General Elections both men are uncomfortable with being Ganduje’s underlings in the APC.For us in the Arewa Peace and Development Initiative, our concerns are many. “First, we are worried about the implications of this kind of nefarious tactics for our polity, a situation where a political party, in this case, the NNPP, is allowed to criminally impersonate another party, the APC, to torpedo the latter’s leadership is utterly dangerous, condemnable, irresponsible and must not be allowed. “Secondly, we are worried about what Governor Yusuf and Kwankwaso plotted in planning violent crisis and unrest in Kano state is dangerous for the very reason that the violence they were bringing to the streets would most likely get out of control and spill to other Arewa states. “Given the other security threats and issues confronting Arewa such despicable desperation has no place in our current socio-political configuration such that the north must rise as one to exact consequences from Governor Yusuf and Kwankwaso for daring to undermine our collective wellbeing in such a manner. “Furthermore, it is our firm belief that the people of Kano State deserve better. The money from their taxes and the state’s commonwealth should not be converted into a war chest from which some people, including those without any business with the state’s coffers, deploy to pursue their ambitions.” The group, therefore, called on the APC at the state and national level to diligently pursue the investigation and prosecution of those who purported to have acted as the executives of the party’s Ganduje Ward to discourage the repeat of such by any other political bloc in Nigeria. It further demanded a comprehensive probe to unravel other people involved in the sham pulled by the Ganduje Ward Executive with a view to getting them to provide law enforcement agencies with information to stop the planned crisis.

*CSO Lauds NCC's milestones, reforms in positioning Nigeria's communication sector* The Citizens Watch Africa (CWA) has applauded Dr Aminu Maida for his efforts to revamp the telecommunications sector since his appointment as the EVC/ CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). The group, at a press conference on Tuesday, said Maida has introduced laudable reforms to boost the confidence of stakeholders in the sector, translating to more investments in critical telecoms infrastructure. In his address, convener of the group, Hon. Pastor Dave Ogbole said it came to this conclusion after an extensive scrutiny of the operations of the NCC in the last six months. Ogbole said there has been a renewed drive to promote transparency and accountability by the NCC leadership led by Maida. “This has consequently led to an improvement in the organization's governance processes. The takeaway from this new drive is the disposition by the leadership of the NCC to ensure a level playing ground for all players in the sector,” he added. “Citizens Watch Africa states that the new drive at the NCC has indeed re-positioned the agency for improved productivity. This has been evident in the various stakeholder engagement initiatives where feedback is gathered and examined to improve the sector. “We are using this medium to commend the leadership of the NCC. It is highly dedicated and committed to delivering on its key mandate. The new drive at the NCC has led to a steady increase in active voice and internet subscriptions, including a drop in teledensity. “It is instructive to state that the nation's teledensity dropped from 115.63% to 102.30% in September. Broadband penetration dropped from 45.47% to 40.85% in the same month. The active voice subscription statistics witnessed a marginal growth from 220,715,961 to 221,769,883 as of September 2023. In addition, Internet subscriptions also enjoyed a marginal increase, from 159,034,717 in August 2023 to 160,171,125 in September 2023. “These are indicators of the renewed commitment by the NCC leadership to revamp the sector. Citizens Watch Africa salutes the dexterity and passion of the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr Aminu Maida. He hit the ground running with laudable policies to re-position the telecoms industry for optimal productivity. “ The group, however, encouraged Maida to continue to provide excellent leadership required at this critical point of our existence towards our drive for sustainable growth and development.

...warns against selective justice The Coalition for Truth and Justice (CTJ) has welcomed the proposed probe of Alhaji Umar Ganduje’s tenure as Kano State governor. The Coalition, at a press conference on Monday, described it as a positive step towards accountability and transparency in governance. Obinna Francis, the Convener of the Coalition, however, charged Governor Abba Yusuf to extend the probe to other notable individuals in the state such as Rabiu Kwanksaso. Francis emphasised that selective justice is a threat to society everywhere in the world, hence the failure to investigate Kwankwaso and others will be seen as biased and political. ”The Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by the State Government to Investigate the immediate past administration in the state ought to start their investigation from 1999-2003 and 2011-2015 when 70 per cent of government properties were sold or fraudulently allocated to friends and families, and not just focusing on only 2011-2015,” the statement said. “But it is unfortunate to bring to our notice that the magnanimous sharing of the state assets happened right under the nose of Abba Kabir Yusuf when he was the Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport. Should we infer that Mr Governor doesn’t know that he who lives in a glass house doesn’t throw stones! ”We all know It is a popular knowledge that the best way to kill a weed is from its root. Therefore, it is alarming that Governor Abba Yusuf seems to focus so much attention on killing the weed of corruption at the top with so much aggression, by solely focusing on witch-hunting the poor in Kano State, which is completely unacceptable. “We believe that justice should be blind and impartial, regardless of one’s social or political status. Therefore, we call for a fair and comprehensive investigation that includes all relevant parties. ”Governor Abba Yusuf should be wise enough to know that it is only when the foundation of transparency is strong, that’s when corruption can be fully addressed. ”The relentless attacks on Chairman Ganduje by Governor Abba Yusuf and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso not only create a sense of instability in the political landscape of Kano State, but also undermine the democratic process. Instead of fostering healthy political competition and constructive dialogue, their actions fuel division and animosity. This not only harms the state’s political stability but also hampers the overall development and progress of Kano State. ”In light of these concerns, the Coalition for Truth and Justice urges Governor Abba Yusuf to extend his investigation to include the period when Rabiu Kwankwaso served as the Governor of Kano State. The government should be upright in its dealings by not selfishly restricting its investigation to between 2015 and 2023, but from 1999 till 2023. This will ensure that justice is served without bias or favoritism. ”It is no news there are rumors among the people of Kano that Governor Yusuf is dinning with Kwankwaso, and that is the reason he’s shielding him from any probe of corruption about his administration in Kano State. The governor must prove it to every Kano citizen that he who comes to equity, must come with clean hands, and this will be a welcome development by all. ”For the record, it can be noted that; From 2011-2015, the controversial five kilometer road projects in the 44 local governments were awarded and only for the funds to be misappropriated without the project being executed under the Kwankwaso administration. ”During the same period under review, over N3 billion naira was also earmarked for a particular project but misappropriated by Kwankwaso during his Presidential Campaign in Lagos when N70 million was released by each local government.”

Human Rights Violation: Group demands immediate release of detained Nigerians by Police IRT The International Federation of Human Rights, IFHR in conjunction with the Freelance Journalist Federation, ( FJF) have called on the Nigerian Police Force to respect human rights of civilians and immediately release the duo of Mustapha Buhari Aliyu and Aliyu Buhari Aliyu who are currently being unjustly incarcerated by officers and men of Intelligence Response Team (IRT) The duo are currently being detained by the Nigerian Police on false allegations of involvement in kidnapping and ransom taking. Rev Oduma Abel of the FJF, Comrade Joshua Attah, the National Coordinator(IHRF) and Reverend Solomon Semaka Solomon of the Save Nigeria Movement, SNM spoke to the media in Abuja while reacting to the continued incarceration of the duo. The group said the IRT of the Nigerian Police Force has been variously engrossed in gross violations of human rights with persistent and unabating complaints from a cross section of Nigerians. They insisted that the most recent and most disturbing of these dastardly acts by the police Intelligence Response Team has been the bizarre invasion of Kagarko, a community in Kaduna State on the 21st of March, 2024 by IRT operatives and the gestapo styled abductions of two innocent brothers on the trumped up allegations of involvement in kidnapping and ransom taking. "The fact that this illegality has been committed at the instance of a known notorious bandit warlord who was out to take revenge on the innocent father of the two brothers has generated global attention and if left unaddressed might lead to a break down of law and order. This is totally unacceptable in a democracy and we are vehemently opposed to this rascality and illegality. "Following repeated complaints and interventions from lawyers to the accused brothers, Y.C Maikyau & Co, an appeal from the Kagarko Emirate Council as well as an intervention from Human Rights Writers Association (HURIWA), a famous human rights watchdog exonerating the accused brothers and without the Nigerian Police Force granting the necessary reliefs sought by releasing the innocent victims, we decided, in line with our core mandate and responsibility as Pro- democracy Civil Society Organizations dedicated to minimizing incidents of human rights abuse by security agents, we undertook an independent fact finding mission to verify the presence and elements of human rights violations allegations against the Intelligence Response Team of the Nigeria Police Force" the group said The group in its preliminary findings released to the media said, "On March 21 2024, some officers of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force according to eye witnesses in a gestapo manner invaded a local community in Kaduna State called Kargarko in an operation that ended up with the illegal arrest and abduction of two innocent citizens of Fulani origin, Mustpha Buhari Aliyu and his brother Aliyu Buhari Aliyu all children of Buhari Aliyu, all residents of Kargarko community. Credible sources in the course of our investigation revealed that the police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) acting on apparent instructions of a known bandit and criminal in the community by name of Muhammad Sani alias "Abacha " was on a mission to carry out a threat earlier issued to the victims father by the same criminal bandit. All information and facts on the matter point to the glaring conspiracy by the officers of the IRT to undermine the rule of law in total disregard for human rights and professionalism just to please a notorious bandit. "Our findings further indicate that following the illegal actions of the IRT of the police , the Kargarko Emirate Council, as well as the the president of the Nigeria Bar Association and other Community Based Interest groups wrote to attest to the innocence of the two victims who are being framed for kidnapping by the police. It is worth noting that no individual shall be arrested without a warrant and detained beyond ( 24) hours without being charged without a valid court order. The Nigeria Police Force in gross violations of both local and international laws have chosen to conspire with a known bandit just to teach the innocent victims and their father a lesson. "It is even more worrisome as reports have emerged that the said Sani Muhammad alias Abacha who is behind the continued incarceration of two innocent citizens is a known bandit who has been recruited into the Nigeria Police Force in the guise of police informant according to HURIWA in a release on March 30 , 2024 and signed by Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko" they said. This development has been collaborated by the Kargarko Emirate Council as well. They further condemned in very strong terms the arrest of innocent civilians without any warrant or reasonable cause of action and more importantly without any charges before our law courts. We view the continued detention of two innocent citizens by the Nigeria police authorities as a dent on the vision of the current administration of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu which has subscribed fully to the rule of law. They also called on the Inspector General of Police to direct the affairs of the Nigeria Police Force in line with the rule of law so as to imbibe professionalism and respect for human rights by the rank and file of the Force. "We call on the National Human Rights Commission to investigate the circumstances of the illegal arrest and abduction and detention of Mustpha Buhari Aliyu and Aliyu Buhari Aliyu by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force and publish the report. " We call on the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Human Rights and Public Petitions to intervene in order to save the state from consequences citizens revolt. "We call on the United Nations Commission on Human Rights to intervene in the multiple cases of human rights abuse by the Nigeria Police Force and call the unconditional release of the victims who are currently held under dehumanizing conditions without probable cause by the police. " We call on the Minister of police Affairs to intervene and call the police authorities to order so as to keep track with the vision and philosophy of Mr President which is clearly in favor of the rule of law. " We demand for the unconditional release of the duo of Mustpha Buhari Aliyu and Aliyu Buhari Aliyu from police illegal detention as the police have nothing against the innocent civilian victims. " We state as a matter of fact that the duo of Mustpha Buhari Aliyu and Aliyu Buhari Aliyu who are currently being detained by officers of the police IRT are law abiding citizens who are well known with cattle rearing as a legitimate means of livelihood and are not criminals as being portrayed by the police. "We advice the police authorities to take into consideration the mood of the country and act with professionalism so as to avert citizens revolt which could lead to the break down of law and order. "We demand on all Human Rights groups and the media to call on the police authorities to release the innocent citizens who are unjustly been kept under custody and desist from further abusing citizens rights. "We demand to know if the Nigerian Police Force has any other agenda by arresting innocent people on the orders of criminal bandits and why are they not charging the victim to court as it is required by law? Why did the police Intelligence Response Team arrest without warrant? Why did they ignore the testimony of Kagarko Emirate Council on the innocence of the two victims? Why continued detention without trial? Is there any motive behind this? Is the Police Force trying to provoke crisis? These and many other questions are begging for answers and we expect the Nigerian Police Force to provide the needed answers and act professionally henceforth. "Ladies and gentlemen of the press, armed with the above facts, we believe that as the conscience and mirror of the nation, you will prevail on the police authorities to release the innocent victims in order to restore citizen confidence in the police force. "Failure by the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) to heed our advice to take the path of rule of law by releasing the innocent victims under custody, we shall have no option than to protest against police brutality before the National Assembly, UN and the Human Rights Commission to register our collective displeasure with police brutality on citizens" they added

*Centre Raises Alarm Over Alleged Fraud, Illegality in NPA, Rivers Port* The Save Humanity Advocacy Centre (SHAC) says it has uncovered alleged fraud and illegal operations at the Rivers Port purportedly under the watch of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). The Centre said that it had received numerous petitions against Ibeto Jetty and its illegal labour operations to the detriment of the country's revenue. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, the Centre's Executive Director of Media, Comrade Jacob Okpanachi, said unregistered dock workers are currently operating foreign vessels. According to him, the activities have diverted the government revenues which run into billions of naira while shortchanging the legitimate registered dock workers of their wages. "We want to publicly share with Nigerians our feelings, frustrations and pains about the happenings in Rivers Port, which the NPA seems to have turned a blind eye to," Okpanachi said. "In the past year, we have received several petitions from concerned Nigerians on the alleged illegal labour operations at the Ibeto Jetty, which has been a conduit pipe for siphoning government revenue by a few individuals. "The arrangement stems from the erroneous approval granted to Ibeto Jetty to operate as a port, as a result of the disingenuous advice of the former Port Manager, Mr. Adamu Michael, through the former Executive Director of Marine and Operations, Onari Brown. "We need to know the rationale behind the decision to allow unregistered dock workers to operate foreign vessels at a private Jetty while denying the government its through-put/ berthing fees and also under declaration of tonnage. "Within a year of such activities, the activities have diverted the government revenues which run into billions of naira and counting, while shortchanging the legitimate registered dock workers of their wages. "While the CEO of Ibeto is already facing a humongous fraud case at the Lagos Federal High Court, we are receiving more allegations of these under-table arrangements to the detriment of the dock workers and the Nigerian government in these times of scarce resources under the watch of the NPA management. "Shipping agents have been lamenting how they can no longer carry out their legitimate business, the reason being that they cannot charge rates agreeable to the CPIU rates published by the same NPA." The Centre, therefore, urged the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy to probe the activities of Ibeto Jetty and the Rivers Port to ensure a level playing field for all players according to the law.

*Agric Stakeholders Write Tinubu, Applaud Reappointment Of Vincent Isiegbe As NAQS Boss* President Bola Tinubu has been commended over the reappointment of Dr. Vincent Isiegbe as the Controller-General (CG) of the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS). The Coalition of Stakeholders in the Agricultural Export And Pastoral Farming Sector made this known in a letter to the President through the office of the Minister of Agriculture. The group said Isiegbe’s reappointment has again attested to President Tinubu’s resolve to assemble the most credible Nigerians to actualize his renewed hope agenda. Describing Isiegbe as a man on a mission, the letter further said the NAQS CG flaunts vast experience and legacy of daring reforms, adding that he has brought financial prudence, novel innovations and administrative finesse to his job. “As a coalition of groups of stakeholders in the agricultural export and pastoral farming sector, we write with every sense of responsibility, to rejoice with Your Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on the very commendable re-appointment of a technocrat cum performer, Dr. Vincent Isiegbe, as the CG of NAQS, despite the desperate and futile efforts of enemies of Nigeria to ensure he was not reappointed,” the letter said. “This singular appointment has proven right our collective faith in the ability of Mr. President to assembling the most credible Nigerians to assist him in the actualization of his renewed hope agenda for the Nigerian people. “Mr. President was wholeheartedly supported by majority of Nigerians, including this noble group, during the 2023 Presidential polls, on the crest of his unequalled legacy of ensuring that the right persons are appointed into the right positions. The appointment of Dr. Vincent Isiegbe as CG of NAQS is an unwavering testament of that belief. “It is also on record that Dr. Vincent Isiegbe, aside his monumental academic qualifications, comes on board with vast experience and legacy of daring reforms. He has brought financial prudence, novel innovations and administrative finesse to the position of CG of NAQS. These combined qualities, conspicuous during his first tenure, produced uncountable reforms that has now distinguished the once little known office. “As stakeholders with vast knowledge of such experiences World over, we are in the know that the quarantine office is a major revenue generating agency in many countries around globe. The people’s republic of China is a typical example of such countries. “We are therefore proud that Dr. Vincent Isiegbe in his first tenure, modeled his policies in this regard and is beginning to turn things around for good in the service. “ The group, therefore, backed Isiegbe to consolidate on the positive impact of his numerous achievements in his first term to scale up the nation’s revenue generating capacity. It added: ”We have no doubt that Dr. Vincent Isiegbe is the man needed to achieve the positive result that is required to take our quarantine service to greater heights. As stakeholders in the sector, we are therefore, pass a vote of confidence on his re-appointment and pledge to work with him in his resolve to, once again, discharge the functions of this office with equanimity. “We are particularly thrilled that Mr. President is a seasoned politician and consistent performer who understands the risks of taking bold and novel steps in doing things differently for the greater good of all. “It is on the above premise(s) that we are unperturbed that the constant efforts of detractors and those who benefit from the previous rot in the system, and now sponsoring faceless groups, and ‘cash and carry activists’ to peddle unfounded and baseless propaganda against Dr. Vincent Isiegbe, will be totally ignored by Mr. President.”

…commends judicious use of resources The Agenda for a New Nigeria (TANN) has applauded the leadership of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) for addressing the critical humanitarian issues in the North East. The group, at a press conference, on Monday in Abuja outlined the giant strides of the agency in education, healthcare, infrastructure and many others. In his address, the convener of the group, Nwogu Ndubisi, said: “The NEDC has made significant investments in education. Schools that were once destroyed by conflict have been rebuilt, and learning materials provided. Scholarships and vocational training programs have empowered young minds, giving them hope for a brighter future. “The NEDC has worked tirelessly to restore healthcare facilities, train medical personnel, and provide essential medicines. Maternal and child health services have improved, saving countless lives. “The NEDC has undertaken ambitious infrastructure projects, connecting remote villages and fostering economic growth. These roads not only facilitate movement but also symbolize progress. “The NEDC recognizes that sustainable livelihoods are crucial for long-term stability. Through skill development programs, microfinance initiatives, and agricultural support, the Commission has empowered individuals and communities to thrive. “ The group also acknowledged the efforts of the Chairman and Managing Director of the agency, Major General Paul Tarfa (rtd), and Mohammed Alkali, noting that their unwavering commitment, strategic vision, and tireless efforts have propelled the NEDC to new heights. The group noted that the current leadership has carried out its activities with the highest level of accountability and transparency, ensuring judicious use of resources. “TANN believes that the gains of these modest interventions are a factor in the reduction of violence and terrorism in the northeast relative to other parts of the country and consequently urges that lessons from the region be modified and applied to parts of the country that are today gripped in throes of banditry. “We are therefore taking a moment to reflect on the journey that brought Major General Tarfa (rtd) and Mr. Alkali to their pivotal roles. Both leaders possess a deep understanding of the region’s needs, having witnessed firsthand the impact of conflict, displacement, and poverty. Their shared vision—to rebuild, rehabilitate, and uplift the region—has been the driving force behind the NEDC’s transformative work. “They represent the collective efforts of the NEDC staff and Management team, the board members, and the resilient communities of the North East. Together, they have made us witness schools reopening, clinics bustling with activity, and roads connecting distant villages.” The group, therefore, called for increased support and funding for the agency.

The Renewed Hope Ambassadors of Nigeria (RHAN) has commended Dr Bashir Jamoh, the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) for his leadership strides. The group, at a press conference on Monday in Abuja, said Jamoh has introduced laudable reforms in the agency, translating to multiple gains in maritime administration and safety in Nigeria. In his address, the national coordinator Hon. Yakubu Dauda, said Jamoh’s leadership style reflects an astonishing level of transparency and accountability. Dauda said NIMASA under Jamoh has fulfilled its strategic mandate of regulating the maritime industry and introducing laudable reforms. “As an astute leader, Dr Bashir Jamoh has introduced laudable reforms in the agency, translating to multiple gains in maritime administration and safety in Nigeria. His leadership style indeed reflects an astonishing level of transparency and accountability,” the group said. “It is well known that under Dr Bashir Jamoh, NIMASA has recorded tremendous progress in fulfilling its strategic mandate of regulating the Maritime industry in Nigeria. The maritime sector that NIMASA oversees is one of the few sectors that have remained resilient in the face of the economic crisis that the country is dealing with. Only uncommon and astute leadership could have yielded such results in amidst a paucity of resources. “It is the position of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors of Nigeria that under Dr Bashir Jamoh, the agency has been positioned to fulfil the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration. Thus, Nigerians will witness an improved and efficient maritime sector in no distant time. “Dr Bashir Jamoh, as an administrator, displayed foresight in ensuring productivity in the NIMASA workforce through improved welfare packages and conditions of service. This is instructive and an indication that NIMASA is positioned to contribute its quota to sustainable growth and development in the country. “The Renewed Hope Ambassadors of Nigeria commends this drive and wishes to use this medium to call on other Nigerians in leadership positions to imitate the passion and dedication of Dr Bashir Jamoh in our quest for sustainable growth and development. The Renewed Hope Ambassadors of Nigeria, therefore, warned his detractors behind slander campaigns to desist. While urging other Nigerian leaders to emulate Jamoh’s example, the group urged the NIMASA boss to remain focused. “It is surprising that some faceless groups and individuals have launched a slander campaign against Dr Bashir Jamoh because it is no longer business as usual for those shortchanging the system through the maritime sector,” the statement added. “After carefully analyzing the various narratives sponsored against Dr Bashir Jamoh in the public space, we wish to state unequivocally that those behind the slander campaign are enemies of Nigeria and democracy. “It is on record that they have been feeding fat from the system through illicit activities that deny the government the necessary revenue from the maritime sector in the country. They have elected to throw caution in the wind by making unfounded allegations that remain a figment of their imaginations. “The general public must be aware that these nefarious individuals and groups are bent on circumventing the system for selfish gains to the detriment of millions of Nigerians. “We encourage Dr Bashir Jamoh to continue his drive to re-position NIMASA for greater productivity. His penchant for hard work is recognized and appreciated by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors of Nigeria. “

*Group Demands Immediate Sack, Arrest of Tinubu's Appointee Mathias Byaun* The Vanguards Of Democracy And Public Peace (VODAPP) has urged President Bola Tinubu to terminate the appointment of Mathias Byuan, the Executive Director of Account and Finance, Federal Housing Authority (FHA). The group also called for Byuan's arrest and probe for breach of public peace, high-handedness, and alleged mismanagement of public funds. In a statement signed by its coordinator, Cosmos Okparaibe, the pro-democracy group accused the new appointee of conniving with some politicians in Benue State to create panic and worsen the insecurity in the state. In desperation to be the next governor, Okparaibe claimed that Byuan had channelled funds meant for housing development to his ambition. "It is no longer news that immediately after the appointment of Mr. Mathias Byuan as the Executive Director, Account and Finance of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), he started moving around, campaigning for the Benue APC 2027 governorship primaries against public service protocols and the electoral laws of Nigeria," the statement said. "Mr. Mathias Byuan who has boasted to many that he is now in control of N126billion (being the amount released by the FG for the prosecution of housing projects for Nigerians), has not spared any moment to demonstrate his desperation and readiness to use public funds to prosecute an election that is still many years ahead. "It is on record that on t8/02/2024, Mr. Mathias Byuan met with ‘Zone C APC elders and youths in his Abuja residence’. The delegation led by the immediate past chairman of Benue APC, Emmanuel Abba Yaro, was promised by Mr. Byuan that he would hand over power to the senatorial zone after one term. "Mr. Byuan was reported to have lavished millions on the delegation in exchange for their political support ahead of the 2027 Benue state governorship election. After another series of meetings where Mr. Byuan also reportedly gave out over 100millions, he connived with the suspended Chairman of Benue APC, Comrade Austin Agada, to call for an expanded APC EXCO meeting with him in Makurdi, in continuation of his ill-fated 2027 governorship bid. "Despite the security threat posed by the meeting and the directive of the state government and subsequently, that of the Commissioner of Police in the state, calling for a stay on political gatherings, Mr. Mathias Byuan and the suspended chairman of Benue APC, Comrade Austin Agada, invaded Benue state with armed thugs. "These thugs according to reports, unleashed mayhem on the people of Benue state and the immediate and remote consequences were the shooting of a lady by the thugs reported to be led by the suspended state chairman of APC, Austin Agada, and renewed hostilities against Benue people by those suspected to be the armed men led by these political actors. "It is therefore undermining the president that his appointee will be involved in activities that erode his rigorous efforts to arrest the spate of insecurity across the country. "Mr. Mathias Byuan must be sacked, investigated for the breach of public peace, arrested, and prosecuted to deter others who might hide under the umbrella of executive positions to perpetrate insecurity across the country. "Nigerians are also wondering whether the huge amount of money released to the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) by the federal government can be managed effectively and judiciously used for the overall interest of Nigerians by Mr. Mathias Byuan who is already boasting to have a war chest of N126billion for the Benue 2027 governorship elections, and also spending millions lavishly in prosecution of same wild goose chase. "It is also on record that Mr. Mathias Byuan on the 26th of June 2023, during the 40th birthday dinner of the suspended Benue APC chairman, Austin Agada, boasted before the mammoth crowd that he attempted to bribe Austin Agada, who was then state chairman of APC, with the sum of N500million, to cede the 2023 governorship ticket of the party to him, possess the requisite character to occupy an esteemed position that requires integrity and financial probity. " The group, therefore, urged President Tinubu to be wary of accepting nominations for appointments from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, "known for recommending the timidest and unqualified for political appointments for economic gains".

Centre hails Chief of Naval Staff, Ogalla for breakthrough in campaign against oil theft, arrests of criminals. The Centre for African Liberation and Socioeconomic Rights (CALSER) has praised the Chief of Naval staff, Emmanuel Ogalla and the Nigerian Navy for achieving breakthroughs in its campaigns against oil theft and arrests of criminals in the country. CALSER also hailed Navy for its increased vigilance. The Centre, at a press conference, on Wednesday, in Abuja, also applauded the Navy for their efforts in curtailing oil theft and loss of critical economic assets. In his address, the Executive Director, Dr Uzah Thomas, said the giant strides recorded by the Navy are due to the exceptional leadership of Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla. He said: "It would be recalled that upon assumption of office, the naval chief indeed hit the ground running by rejigging the operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Navy to address the issues of crude oil theft and the safety of critical economic infrastructure on the country's waterways. "This much has been the case, and the gains recorded so far are tangible and far-reaching in addressing crude oil theft in the country. We wish to state that the Nigerian Navy has indeed risen to the occasion in maintaining a professionally competent and ethical naval force. "This has translated to tangible gains in the war against crude oil theft, which hitherto assumed a dangerous dimension that resulted in severe economic losses to the country. "The Centre for Africa Liberation and Socioeconomic Rights views the efforts of the Nigerian Navy as commendable in recent times. It further indicates purposeful leadership by the Chief of Naval Staff, who, upon assumption of office, ensured that the Nigerian Navy is re-positioned to deliver on its constitutional mandate to the country. "Therefore, it is no longer news that, in recent times, the Nigerian Navy has recorded outstanding success in the war against crude oil theft. Scores of vessels loaded with stolen crude have been intercepted, and operators of illegal refineries have been arrested and handed over for prosecution. If this tempo continues, crude oil theft will soon be a thing of the past. "The Chief of Naval Staff has continued to display leadership. This attribute is needed to turn the country's fortunes around for good. The example set in this case is worthy of emulation by those saddled with leadership positions in the country. "It remains the position of the Centre for Africa Liberation and Socioeconomic Rights that leaders in the country must always show dedication and patriotism. Their commitment to socioeconomic growth and development must be unwavering and unwavering if we desire to progress as a people and a country. "The Nigerian Navy has set worthy examples in our quest for sustainable growth and development. This is highly commendable because the ongoing efforts to curb crude oil theft would ultimately lead to an increase in crude oil production for the country, which would lead to improved revenue at the same time. This is also on the heels of the country's significant earnings from crude oil. "Undoubtedly, the officers and ratings of the Nigerian Navy indeed keyed into the new operational mandate introduced by the Chief of Naval Staff. Hence, the success recorded so far in the war against crude oil theft. This also indicates the pragmatic approach deployed to ensure total adherence to the new thinking and the new operational mandate introduced. " The Centre, therefore, urged all relevant stakeholders to extend their support to the Nigerian Navy in the country's war against crude oil theft.

Tinubu’s advocates laud NEMA for proactivenes, transparency in discharging duties The Renewed Hope Ambassador of Nigeria (RHAN) has applauded the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for its proactivenes and transparency in discharging its duties The President Bola Tinubu advocacy group also hailed NEMA for its strategic interventions in the country's emergency and disaster management. The group, which made this known in its periodic review of NEMA's operations, made the outcome of its findings known at a press conference on Wednesday. In his address, the national coordinator of the group, Hon. Yakubu Dauda, said the agency has done creditably well over the years and fulfilled its mandate. Appraising the agency, Daudu said it has played a pivotal role in intervening in the country's emergency and disaster incidents. He noted that NEMA has witnessed the emergence of exemplary leaders who piloted the agency's affairs with utmost dexterity and dedication. "The various Director Generals that stirred the ship of NEMA from the era of Sani Sidi to the current dispensation of Ahmed Mustapha Habib have provided sterling leadership qualities in managing the agency's affairs," he added. "They have motivated staff members of the agency to discharge their duties effectively. The leadership of NEMA over the years has encouraged staff member training through participation in various training programs both locally and internationally. This has paid off. "The introduction of transparency and accountability in managing the affairs of the agency has ensured the effective utilization of the resources of the agency in fulfilling its strategic mandate. "Staff welfare was not also neglected. Various incentives were provided for staff members, enabling them to discharge their duties effectively. The present Director General must be commended for his excellent role since the assumption of office in sustaining the activities of NEMA and promoting the agency to the level it has attained today. " The report, however, notes that the agency can achieve more through the massive support of critical stakeholders, the government, and members of the public.

*Kano: Centre warns against negative consequences of plot by former Emir Sanusi, allies to amend chieftaincy laws* The Centre for Africa Liberation and Socio-Economic Rights (CALSER) has raised an alarm over a purported plan to tinker with the local government and chieftaincy affairs law in Kano State to favour the deposed Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi. The Centre, at a press conference on Wednesday, also alleged that some elements are taking illegal means to reverse this law not minding the consequences for the stability of the state. In his address, the executive director Dr. Amodu Ben said some members of the state assembly are being induced and coerced into entertaining this dangerous plot. Ben further said that the end game is to have Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf speedily assent to this controversial amendment and hurriedly reinstate Sanusi. "At CALSER, we have multiple concerns. First, what becomes of the current emirs of Rano, Karaye, Bichi, and Gaya, whose deposition the hatchers of this plot are indirectly calling for? It is on record that there is no infraction found against any of them, so the promoters of this plot have to honestly answer this question," he added. "They also have to explain how the government should manage the outrage and protests that will come from the subjects of these emirs as they have become accustomed to the leadership they provide. "We also think that hatching and attempting to implement a dangerous plan of this nature is uncalled for at a time when the depressed economy and cost of living crisis have already primed major cities across the country for implosion and explosion with citizens looking for the slightest excuses to start protesting, which is most likely to turn violent given the level of economic pressure that people are under. "It is most unfortunate that Lamido Sanusi, encouraged by the Kano State Governor and some members of the Kano State House of Assembly, is attempting to tap into this populist anger in his bid to clinch back a position he lost under a different administration that followed due process to remove him." The Centre, therefore, warned "Sanusi that while he is free to set his home state on fire the rest of Nigeria does not want to be caught in the conflagration that will result from this evil enterprise." Been added: "He needs to advise himself correctly that this is not the same as grandstanding with populist comments and interventions in the media, taking the steps to physically implement a comeback is a charade that will cost lives and unleash destruction beyond his anticipation. "We equally urge Governor Abba Yusuf that there is still time to retrace his steps and not deliberately plunge the state into crisis. Our most profound message to the Governor is that there is a limit to politicking – the hostile reaction to his unpopular demolition of structures and the knife edge on which the state walked the height of the election petition tribunal and court rulings would be child’s play compared to the inferno he is stoking by agreeing to this misadventure of plotting to merge emirates and reinstate a deposed emir. "The governor must understand and acknowledge the dangers of mixing politics and the traditional institution as this is a sure recipe for destroying this institution that has provided stability for the society in this part of the country."

The Centre for International and Strategic Studies (CISS) has applauded the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani and Aminu Maida, the CEO/EVC of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for reforming the sector. The Centre made this known in its assessment report of the communications sector under President Bola Tinubu. In the report signed by Dr Thomas Uzah, the Centre hailed Dr Tijani and Maida for keying into President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda with laudable initiatives and reforms. The report praised the minister for convincing President Tinubu to sign four Executive Orders including the suspension of the five percent Exercise Tax on telecommunication services. It also acknowledged the importance of the National Broadband Alliance for Nigeria (NBAN) in fostering collaboration for broadband development and adoption to position the country at the forefront of the global digital landscape. "The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is consolidating on these gains as part of his promised renewed hope," the report said in part. "His appointment of an experienced young Nigerian in the person of Bosun Tijani as Minister of Communication and Digital Economy has yielded fruits with the reforms introduced by the ministry since his assumption of duty. "He got the President to sign an executive order to suspend multiple taxation that has stifled business in the sector. The administration has rolled out many initiatives that, if implemented diligently will turn things around in the communication sector. "Efforts are in place in human capacity development with the training of young men and women in ICT while also improving internet accessibility for Nigerians. The reforms introduced under the auspices of Dr Dr Bosun Tijani if sustained will solve many of the problems witnessed in the sector. " The Centre, however, recommended that the NCC should revamp stakeholder engagement across the country. It also urged the Federal Government to address the cost of doing business and invest massively in infrastructure, especially the power sector.

Kayode Ajulo’s Nomination: A Masterstroke by Governor Aiyedatiwa By Wole Adepoju After the series of events that led to the appointment of Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa as the substantive governor of Ondo State, there was great anticipation among interested Nigerians, residents of Ondo State, and other stakeholders regarding the new commissioner nominees. Governor Aiyedatiwa’s release of the nomination list partially quelled the suspense. As expected, the list included the names of former commissioners who had stood by him during his path to power. However, what surprised everyone was the inclusion of the renowned legal expert and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo. Ajulo’s name on the list created a buzz and became the center of discussion across various media platforms. While some people argued that Ajulo’s stature as a self made successful lawyer was too big for a commissioner role, others praised Governor Aiyedatiwa for his decision. The general consensus, excluding the opposition and cynics, was that the governor had made a strategic move and accomplished a significant feat by convincing someone of Kayode Ajulo’s caliber to join his administration. The appointment of Ajulo, a young successful legal figure, was seen as a substantial asset to governance in the state. It sent a strong message to the opposition that Governor Aiyedatiwa was well-equipped to handle challenges and had more plans up his sleeve. It is worth noting that Ajulo played a crucial role in breaking the grip of a cabal that held the state hostage during the illness of the late governor. His legal intervention and public declaration exposed the forgery of the late governor’s signature and put an end to their manipulative tactics. While some mischievous individuals propagated the idea that Ajulo sided with Aiyedatiwa during the struggle to secure an appointment, those in the know dismissed it as a baseless falsehood. They affirmed that Governor Aiyedatiwa recognized Ajulo’s experience and wanted to utilize it for the benefit of the state. The governor believed that Ajulo’s inclusion would contribute to the successful administration of the state, especially during crucial times. Commentators and pundits commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for his decision to bring Ajulo on board. They recognized it as a step in the right direction, highlighting Ajulo’s expertise and worldwide contacts in the legal profession and politics. Many believed that Ajulo’s appointment as Attorney General would greatly enhance governance in the state and unsettle the opposition. They considered Governor Aiyedatiwa’s move as a demonstration of his visionary leadership and ability to achieve results. Contrary to the claims of cynics, Ajulo’s appointment received widespread commendation from various groups and well-meaning individuals. It was viewed as a testament to Governor Aiyedatiwa’s ability to identify capable individuals for important roles. Ajulo’s presence at the Assembly confirmation ceremony of the commissioner nominees further solidified this perception. Dressed impeccably and surrounded by supporters and admirers, he captivated everyone’s attention. The applause that filled the chamber when his impressive profile was read out attested to his remarkable credentials and garnered immense admiration. Overall, Kayode Ajulo’s nomination as a commissioner by Governor Aiyedatiwa was seen as a masterstroke. It showcased the governor’s astuteness and brought accolades from various quarters. Ajulo’s inclusion was considered a valuable addition to the state’s executive council, with his exceptional qualifications and reputation preceding him as many are praying that his contribution to national discourse and development should not be abated.

Coalition Decries Unlawful Detention of Miyetti Allah President, Demands Immediate Release The Coalition of Ethnic Nationalities for the Defence of Human Rights has called for the immediate release of Dr Abdullahi Bello Bodejo, the National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal-Hore. The group led by Comrade Kabir Matazu who spoke to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday said Bodejo's arrest and continued detention is not only illegal but counterproductive and it violates his fundamental human rights. The statement further describes Bodejo as part of the solution to the current insecurity, dedicated to contributing to the peace of the nation. The coalition, therefore, said that his release is imperative to preserve peace and uphold the rule of law, adding that failure to do so will lead to protests. The statement said in part: "Let it be known that Miyetti Allah Kautal-Hore is a Fulani socio-cultural group with a proven track record of promoting peaceful coexistence between Fulani nomads and farmers. Alhaji Bodejo's detention stems from his involvement in the creation of a Nomads Vigilante Group, established transparently to complement government efforts in restoring peace and addressing the persistent challenges of insecurity bedeviling our nation, echoing the popular belief that Security is everyone’s business and driven by his patriotic ideals that the task of securing a nation shouldn’t solely be left in the hands of the government because the only way the Nigerian government can effectively secure the nation is if the citizens play their part. "This Nomads Vigilante Group emerges as a child of necessity, a response to the failure of existing security measures to protect the territorial integrity of our nation from Boko Haram Terrorists, Bandits and kidnappers, and insurgents despite substantial investments over the years. The Vigilante Group stands as a transparent initiative aimed at collaborating with government security agencies to combat banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling, and the conflicts between farmers and herders that continue to plague our nation with no solution in sight. "We wish to assert that the arrest and detention of Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Bodejo is not only illegal but also counterproductive and it violates his fundamental human rights. We advise that rather than the government treating him as an adversary, they should recognize his commitment to being part of the solution. Individuals like him, dedicated to contributing to peace, should be encouraged and not persecuted. "We strongly urge the government to release Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Bodejo unconditionally without further delay. Doing so is imperative to preserve peace, uphold the rule of law, and demonstrate a genuine commitment to collaborative efforts in tackling the security challenges that have persistently plagued our nation. "If the authority concerned does not heed our advice, we’ll have no option but to mobilize our members from the nooks and corners of the country to occupy the Federal Capital Territory in a massive protest until the government listens to our demand and unconditionally release our President. Meanwhile, we will continue to contribute our quota individually and collectively towards a Nigeria where unity, peace and justice".

*Group Holds Rally, Urges NASS to Probe Alleged Involvement of Lawmaker in Kidnapping* The Save Nigeria Movement (SNM) has urged the National Assembly to probe the alleged involvement of a high-ranking lawmaker in kidnapping and banditry. Speaking during a peaceful rally on Tuesday in Abuja, convener Rev Solomon Semaka called for an unbiased public investigation to assuage the anxiety of Nigerians. According to Semaka, failure to act on the part of the National Assembly leadership will amount to complicity in insecurity and terrorism sponsorship. "As a civil society organization that has consistently fought to ensure an end to insecurity, it has become necessary for us to call on the National Assembly, especially the Senate to act with all sincerity and fish out the bad egg amongst its rank," he said. "Indeed there is no smoke without fire and it is still an altruism that in every twelve (12), there must be a Judas. No wonder, successive efforts at ending insecurity and fishing out its sponsors have continued to fail possibly because of the presence of moles who criminally sabotage such investigations and their findings. "The rising incidents of kidnapping and banditry in recent times even in the Federal Capital Territory is alarmingly worrisome. Members of the National Assembly cannot, therefore, afford to shy away from investigating their own and making their findings public. An unbiased public investigation is needed to assuage the anxiety of Nigerians at this point. "There is no gainsaying that he who comes to equity must come with clean hands. The National Assembly must make concerted efforts to purge itself of that one member or member that has gone rogue and jettisoned his hallowed mandate of making laws and providing oversight functions by constituting himself into a national nuisance and security threat. "The recent media reports and intelligence cannot be ignored at this material time. Nigerians need answers and a solution to the lingering insecurity. Mr President has already given his word and has shown an unwavering commitment, the National Assembly must therefore play its part and help find the missing link. "Mr President has shown great commitment to ending insecurity and we commend him for that. We are solidly aligned with his Renewed Hope Agenda and we hope that our country will soon be safe. The leadership of NASS must, therefore, act swiftly and show support for Mr President's genuine efforts to end insecurity. Failure to act on the part of the National Assembly leadership will amount to complicity in insecurity and terrorism sponsorship. "Ladies and gentlemen of the press, the rally we have had here is in furtherance of our call on the National Assembly and all stakeholders to support President Tinubu's administration efforts in curbing insecurity in Nigeria. Our voices must be heard and the National Assembly must act if not we shall mobilise to occupy the National Assembly Complex until the right thing is done and the culprit is revealed. We are confident too that the media will continue to support our efforts to secure our country for all Nigerians to live and thrive. "

The Anti-Corruption Vanguard and Parliamentary Watchdogs have given the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Bello Koko, until Tuesday next week to appear before the National Assembly or face massive protest. The NPA boss was summoned over allegations of corrupt practices, fraudulent fund disbursement, money laundering, illegal concessions, and gross abuse of office. However, Bello Koko has ignored multiple invites and the groups described it as an "affront on our constitutional democracy and a desecration of the Nigerian parliament". In a statement co-signed by Comrade Mahmoud Abubakar and Hon. Bashorun Solanke, the groups said Bello Koko must appear before the National Assembly without hesitation and provide answer to the many allegations against him. They, however, warned that failure to do so will lead to daily protests starting from Tuesday 6th February 2024. The statement partly reads: "As we all know, the National Assembly remains the true representation and voice of the people and have had cause to summon Mr. Bello Koko to a Public Hearing on two occasions to answer grave allegations of corrupt practices, fraudulent fund disbursement, money laundering, illegal concessions, and gross abuse of office. These allegations violate Nigerian laws, including the Constitution and the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act. "It is disheartening that Mr. Bello Koko refused to honor and appear before the National Assembly's House Committee on Public Petitions, being summoned twice. This is an affront to our constitutional democracy and a desecration of the Nigerian parliament. Such actions if left unchecked can undermine the credibility and essence of our democratic institutions. "As concerned citizens of this great nation, we are perturbed by Mr. Bello Koko's audacity to resist a legitimate summon by the National Assembly on two occasions. We therefore want to ask, who is backing and protecting Bello Koko in this defiance against the National Assembly? the parliament remains the very embodiment of the diverse voices of our people. "The weighty allegations against Bello Koko include illegal coconcessionsdiversion of government revenue in which vessels that come to NPA are either undeclared or improperly billed, unreported ships leaving ports without billing, and underreported cargoes, demand immediate attention. His reluctance to address these concerns only deepens the suspicions surrounding his stewardship. "At this juncture, we call on Mr. Bello Koko to appear before the National Assembly without hesitation and provide aanan to many allegations hanging on his neck to the Nigerian people. "In light of this development we hereby put the National Assembly on notice that beginning next week Tuesday 6th February 2024, there will be daily protests to draw attention to these issues so that the men and women of good conscience still in parliament can issue an arrest warrant against Bello Koko and compel his appearance to answer for his economic crimes against the nation. "We also want to call on the anti-graft agencies and the President to investigate and consider suspending Mr. Bello Koko, echoing the recent actions taken against corrupt practices in the government, especially that of Dr Betta Edu, the erstwhile Minister of Humanitarian Affairs. What is good for Betta Edu is also good for Bello Koko. "

While urging Nigerians to continue to support the Commission, Francis assured of a credible census that will help in addressing the myriads of challenges in the country. "The focus on the National Population Commission is in the right direction because of its mandate to ensure accurate census data, which is critical for developing accurate assessments of the nation's economic well-being and helping the government with proper economic planning," he said. "The Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Transparency and Accountability is confident that the 2023 population census would go a long way in tackling insecurity in the country, given that it will provide data that can help the government take note of the ratio of security officers proportionate to the nation's population which can help in improving the security of lives and properties. "It also has its benefits in the critical agricultural sector in the sense that the census data generated can help to formulate, evaluate, change, and propose policies and programs that help farmers develop market strategies, create more efficient production and distribution systems, and assist in developing and improving methods that will increase agricultural production and profitability. "We want to seize the opportunity of this Press Briefing to identify with and commend the leadership of the National Population Commission for the laudable initiatives introduced towards attaining a successful National Population Census. This is on the heels of its leadership's display of transparency and accountability in utilizing available resources for this national exercise that is critical to translating our hopes and aspirations into tangible realities. "It is also on record that the National Population Commission has reiterated its readiness to conduct a credible and acceptable census through the implementation of comprehensive security measures to safeguard its servers, applications, and IT infrastructure through robust and concrete firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, regular security audits, encryption protocols, and multifactorial authentication for privileged accounts. "The Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Transparency and Accountability is using this medium to pass a vote of confidence on the leadership of the National Population Commission for rising to the occasion in its preparedness for the forthcoming national population census. "We also call on other critical stakeholders in the country to see the success of the national population census as a collective endeavour that does not rest on the shoulders of the National Population Commission alone but require a collective action involving all and sundry. The Coalition of Minority and Indigenous Ethnic Groups in Nigeria has accused immediate-past Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike of breaching the peace pact he signed with his successor, Siminalayi Fubara. The group, which made this known at a press conference on Wednesday, also claimed that the FCT Minister is using the judiciary to intimidate Governor Fubara's perceived loyalists. In his address, convener Okwa Dan raised an alarm over a plot to arraign the former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, now Chief of Staff to the Governor, Edison Ehie as "unacceptable to the spirit of peace". While applauding Governor Fubara for honouring the agreement, Dan urged Wike to give peace a chance in Rivers. "The Coalition of Minority and Indigenous Ethnic Groups in Nigeria has closely followed the implementation of this accord and is pleased to note that the Rivers State Governor has implemented every single action point that pertains to him in the Rivers Peace Document," he said. "In the spirit of doing to the right side what has been done to the left side, we urge the Wike side of the schism to embrace the peace accord and do so with a human face. Wike’s side should give peace a chance under the circumstances as an appointee and ally of Mr. President Tinubu, who recognises the importance of facilitating internal peace and security in Rivers State. Wike's side should shelter their sword. "We are strongly of the view that the peace agreement must not be seen to be one-sided. Our assertion in this regard arose from the recent development in which the judiciary is being used to undermine the State Governor. This is particularly so in the case of the use of the judiciary by some highly placed individuals to humiliate those who are seen to be loyal to the Governor. "The recent plot to arraign the former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly who is now Chief of Staff to the State Governor, Edison Ehie is therefore unacceptable to the spirit of peace, which both sides are expected to embrace in the wake of signing the peace accord. Our Coalition is therefore calling on the Federal Government and its agencies to in the spirit of the Peace Accord withdraw all the charges against Edison Ehie and all other Fubara's loyalists. "Peace cannot be a one-sided affair. Since Governor Fubara has gone out of his way to give juicy appointments to the loyalists of the FCT, those who are in the Governor’s camp should not be treated differently. Hounding them with the judiciary of federal institutions will only cause fresh provocations that make a mockery of the efforts that President Tinubu has put into restoring peace to that part of the country. It will be most disrespectful to repay Mr President with such behaviour when he has shown the way in how to give peace a chance. "Our Coalition consequently frowns at attempts to use the judiciary or agencies of the Federal government to witch-hunt officials of the Rivers State Government. Beyond negating the peace accord, it also signposts a threat to the autonomy of the nation’s federating states. We want Mr Wike to take special note that his camp’s stance on remaining belligerent has implications for the relationship between the states and the Federal Government. Today, he enjoys the federal might but tomorrow the shoe may be on the other foot."

Group vows to protest over refusal of NPA MD, Mohammed Bello Koko to appear before House of Reps A Civil society group, the Overt Legacy and development initiative, has vowed to embark on a massive protest over the refusal of the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, Mohammed Bello Koko to appear before the House of Representatives Committee on Public Petition to answer for corruption allegations levelled against him. He has refused to appear after being summoned twice. The Group's Convener, Convener, Comrade Mahmoud Abubakar said Koko snubbed the House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the disposal of public property by the agencies between 2010 and 2012. Hon. Mike Etaba who is the Chairman of the House Reps Committee on Public Petitions had drew the attention of the House of Representatives to the issue. The Majority Leader of the House and Chairman of the ad hoc committee, Hon. Julius Ihonbvere, at the resumed investigative hearing on the disposal of public property by the agencies between 2010 and 2022 to unravel the extent of illegal auctioning of public property, non-remittance of revenue realised into the Consolidated Revenue Fund’, said this political rascality and irresponsibility must stop. The chairman, who could not hide his anger, said the ad hoc committee would stop the lackadaisical behaviour of Mohammed Koko. He said, “This kind of political rascality and irresponsibility must stop! No chief executive is above the law, we are the lawmakers and when we summon an agency here, that agency must show up. “We have the powers to summon anyone in this country by powers that are guaranteed constitutionally and we think this kind of lackadaisical and almost infantile behaviour at this stage, we have to check it and stop it.
