PoliticsRe: Proposed Okigwe State. Original And Rightful Capital Of The South East by Multipurple: 10:05am On Mar 04, 2025
discusant:
Orlu is the most marginalized senatorial district in the southeast of Nigeria.
Owerri used capital of Imo state to have 99% of all federal and state government institutions and parastatals for Imo state located in Owerri senattorial district, nothing for Orlu.
Because of population influx from marginalized Orlu into Owerri, Owerri has developed into Old Owerri, New Owerri and now extending to Ikwerre area in Rivers state, whereas Orlu remains stagnant because there are no institutions of government allowed by Owerri in Orlu to induce development in Orlu area.
Every govt of Imo state is constrained to provide matching infrastructures in rapidly urbanising Owerri area. Thus Orlu got severely shortchanged in Imo state.
Besides, the 5th state, Ebonyi, in the southeast was created from Enugu and Abia states. Therefore, a 6th state for the southeast must be created from Imo West and parts of Anambra south senatorial districts. It's called ANIM state.
Your argument here is about your personal interest and not the best Igbo interest. This has been the problem of Imo people.

Coldie:
So tell us how we would fund a $2billion dollar SE railway station when our states at present can’t survive without allocation.

Soludo as financially knowledgeable as he is thought SE was richer than so so so. But when he entered into government house he saw the reality in ground.

I ask you again, if there’s true federalism and they stop giving SE allocation, how would we fund our region?

I need an answer from you!

With the present system any money generated by all states, whether rich or poor is contributed and split between everybody. With this system at least every region would always have something to work with.

Tell me how SE would fund itself, that’s how ipob and Biafra said they can contribute billions for Biafra, when Nnamdi Kanu needed 300million to post bail, it had to take a Nigerian senator using money for his constituency to pay that bail.

If ipob no fit generate 300million where una want see $2billion build railway?
You will need to checkout the revenue of the old eastern region before you talk about revenue here. Do know that all the southeast states have either oil or natural gas? Have heard about the palm oil production of colonial and early post colonial era? Do you know that the major developments we have in the east today were either made by Okpara administration or the foundation he laid?
It was after abolishing the regional government that every region went lazy and started waiting for federal allocation. I am not saying we are the richest or poorest region but we sure have enough resources (material and human) to build a dream city/region.
You talk about IGR of the west, is development really measured by IGR? I'm I'm talking about infrastructural development not IGR. I will agree with you that southwest is truly doing more unite as a people than southeast but as of today they are not better developed than southeast.
You talk of your support for federal character and quota system, that's what gave birth to mediocrity and laziness. It was the alter on which meritocracy was sacrificed.
Talking of the injustice, it is the current system that promotes the injustice and can never be corrected with the status quo so there's a need for a system that promotes hard work and healthy competition.
Your lack of support for the tax reform shows laziness and unfairness from your side. Just know it that all the southeastern states can survive on their own based on mineral deposits, agricultural and human resources available in each state, only if the leaders has the will.

I have many things to comment about your thread but I hate typing so will say a little.
1. I agree with the idea of building a new city in the center with access to other main cities in the region.
2. No reasonable progress will ever be made under the present arrangement in Nigeria
3. Talking about allocation, we would be better off financially without Nigeria.
4. Apart from Lagos which other South West state is Making a giant straid? Don't mind the media propaganda, I have been to most South western states, they are not better than us.
5. Truly, remaining part of Nigeria would pay us more but not under the current system, we will need true federalism for that.

The most useless post I've ever seen on nairaland.
When you want to be a tribal bigot to be one with guile.

There's nothing like "repentant terrorist" once a terrorist is always a terrorist.

As long as they remain Muslims they remain terrorists

We have a serious problem upfront and the club is not addressing it. We keep on bringing mediocres and end up looking stupid.

Look at Sterling, he is just wasting there, because Arteta has realized that he is not the player we need. We needed a strong, clinical and lethal striker, but we ended up with Havertz. This is a player that cannot win duels with any defender, he is sluggish and not clinical.
But Arteta will keep playing Havertz to prove to us that his signings are good.
As long as Arteta remain there we will never win anything and to make it worse the press is acting like he is the best manager in the world, no torch light, no press from them at all.

Even in the midfield we need a midfielder that can split the defense with his passes. When teams defend against us we don't get near their box, their defense is not troubled at. Arteta doesn't know attacking football, he thinks it's all about possession and passing ball in the midfield and back to keeper.

As an Arsenal fan, I don't expect Arsenal to beat Man U. Arteta out!
His football is boring, just passing ball around in the midfield, no real attacking threat. Even the defense that use to be something to boast of is now as licky as old Trafford roof.

It's is just because of the useless electoral system otherwise these politicians won't be acting so recklessly. I have always supported Fubara but this is insanity at its pick. So we are now openly enthroning criminals and as such encouraging crime. Truly there's no hope for this country.

We cannot genuinely claim independence to a system and document we just received, and for which we have benefited from.

I'll tell you this, if the judgement had favored Balewa, they would still have stuck to the Privy Council.

Such appeals were not cheap, nor were they frivolous. The state of the nation's peace dependent on it.

If Akintola had been removed, Nigeria would never have gone to war.

Law determines peace and prosperity. Lawlessness is the mother of chaos.
What are trying to say? Weren't America colonized by the same people? Is America the independent today or not? It is the choice of our leaders otherwise we can be truly independent. And you cannot say it was because of that judgment that the war came, that part of the story is just somebody's perspective, every military coup based on selfish ambition.

That is not true.

The Privy Council served all Commonwealth nations. Our Supreme Court had long existed, and the Privy Council always over ruled them. Why not then, again?
The what makes you independent if you are still answerable to them?
PoliticsRe: Dele Farotimi: How A Failed Judiciary Triggered The Nigerian Civil War by Multipurple: 2:07pm On Dec 13, 2024
I get the point you are trying to make and you are correct on it but I actually support the action of the of the Balewa government in ignoring the judgment of British court as that would made us their puppet (though we still ended up being one).

The judiciary/justice system is exactly the problem of Nigeria.

You cannot have peace without justice.

Frigga13:
Mr Husseini argued that if passed into law, the bills would not benefit the Northern States.

He condemned the Senate’s decision to approve the bills, saying, “We view it as a deliberate effort to sabotage the economy, increase hardship and further impoverishing the region.”

Mr Husseini expressed concern over the proposed VAT allocation system, noting that states like Lagos, where major corporations such as Nigerian banks, telecommunications companies, and multinational companies were headquartered, would receive the largest share of the VAT.

“Lagos and its environs would account for 80 percent of the VAT collected in Nigeria, leaving northern states with a minimal share,” he said.

He warned that if allowed to scale through, the bill would further weaken northern states, potentially rendering some unable to pay salaries and worsening poverty and hardship.
