What you'll do:

* Visit building material markets in Lagos, with a list of items we give you for each trip.
* Ask suppliers for the lowest price they would accept for materials like blocks, iron rods, cement, sand and granite. This means negotiating, not just taking the first price they quote.
* Record prices accurately and submit the information using a simple process.
* Take short market trips when needed.

Requirements:

* Must live in Lagos, preferably around Surulere, Yaba, Mushin, Shomolu, Onipanu, Fadeyi, Palmgrove or nearby areas.
* Good communication skills and attention to detail.
* Able to use a smartphone to record information.
* Honest and reliable. If you don't know a price, report it as unknown rather than guess.

Preferred: experience in procurement or purchasing, quantity surveying or estimating, building site work, building materials sales, or field data collection.

Payment: ₦18,000 per market visit for successful applicants, with transport arrangements discussed separately.

This is a flexible, part-time opportunity suitable for students, recent graduates or anyone looking for extra income.

I’m looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor familiar with the Nigerian construction industry, particularly the Lagos market, for a paid consulting engagement.

The project involves developing a structured catalog of construction materials and establishing a consistent approach to documenting their specifications and market prices.

The work will include:

* Defining standard material descriptions, sizes, specifications and units of measurement.
* Identifying product variations that require separate catalog entries.
* Establishing a consistent structure for collecting and comparing prices from different suppliers.
* Advising on how construction materials should be classified to ensure accurate cost comparisons.

For example, materials such as blocks, reinforcement bars, plumbing fittings and sanitaryware come in different sizes, grades and specifications. We need a standardized catalog that accounts for these differences rather than grouping unlike products together.

Requirements:

* Qualification or professional experience in Quantity Surveying.
* Practical experience preparing Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
* Familiarity with construction materials and suppliers in Lagos.
* Ability to develop clear, structured documentation.

This is an initial, defined consulting engagement, with the possibility of further work.

How much is the pay per each research?

Pay range is 15-20k per run. You’d possibly do a run 4-5 times a week.

If you are building in Lagos, prices move week to week and there is no independent place to check what a material should actually cost.

We at Landalyst collect prices directly from vendors in Lagos markets, and we have just opened a channel to publish them. The method is fixed: every week we ask several vendors per material in each market and record the range, with brand, unit and date — because a bag, a piece and a trip are not same everywhere.

Many Nigerians abroad are building houses back home, but one problem keeps coming up.

A contractor or site person sends a new bill/payment request, but the owner is not physically around to confirm whether the work on site actually matches the amount being requested.

For example:

* Has the building really reached the stage being claimed?
* Are the quantities reasonable?
