Culture / Re: Why Did The Bantu's Migrate From Eastern Nigeria To Central And Southern Africa? by Mwenyi: 4:35am On Oct 13, 2014
BlackKenichi:

Bantus are to a certain extent an extended family as their underlying genetic component is Niger-Kordofanian/West African, however Bantus have absorbed a lot genes from other Africans during their expansion.
Bantu has and always will be a linguistical term. It was never meant to be a racial or genetic term. It only became racial or genetic term when Euro-colonists decided that Bantus are homogenous because they speak similar languages.

I have no problem with the word/term Bantu! I certainly think more research should be done on the Bantu Migration.

However as I said to CAMEROONPRIDE? to

Bantus have alot in common. I have met bantu individuals from all corners of Africa. It is like meeting a fellow tribesman who speaks another dialect. Its entertaining pass time when you spend time comparing words and meanings. Even the pastorist bantus still retain the core bantuness. The only people geneticist claim are bantu but totally alien are the tutsi. I do not believe they are bantu. Their culture is similar to cushites. They speak a bantu language but are culturally not.

But normadic fulani and city fulani speak the same language just in different dialects. Just as you have the manding people who speak different dilects in different countries. Unless, you want to tell me that Basaa and Shona are the same but just spoken in different dialects. Is basaa mutually intelligible to shona?

I am confused, is bantu now being referred to as an ethnicity? There are different facial characteristics amongst people from ethnicities who speak the bantu languages. No one ethnicity be it from the bantu group or niger congo looks the same but if you want to take a bird's eye view you can easily tell by region not by language. People have been using the word bantu to describe others in a negative manner making it seem like it's a disease to come from that language group(onila).

Yes, southern africans have a certain look so do east west and central when broken down there are certain looks within that southern, central, east or west. So, there is no such thing as looking bantu. We are different and we should embrace our differences as one. I mean, if anyone wants to be we are one and the same. Nothing wrong with that either. We are from the same continent are we not?

I was watching a video yesterday of these somali singers msdarkskin posted and I thought the video was shot in somalian because of the people features but read comments saying it was shot in kenya. To me as an outsider they had the features I will consider somalian but many said they looked kenyan. Saw a picture of some rwandan women, they had somali features but I an sure a somali or rwandan can tell they are not somali.

My families languages include the atlantic languages, if we were classifying looks to languages, as onlia is doing with bantu I look nothing like the limba or fulani. In fact, I don't even know what I look like because no one else can ever tell. I'm bloody all over the place.

We are a race. A bantu race.

no bantus overrun somalis, you slowpoke. Somalis werent even in somalia untill a few thousand years ago. Thats why all the cities are named by persians and arabs. Look at Mogadishu its persian for seat of the shah, and cities like merka, barawe.

Somalis like all cushitic people came from the highlands of central ethiopia.

besides it was arabs who had slaves in kenya and somalis and ethiopians had bantu slaves. So did whites so sit down.

Nosense. No ethiopia had bantu slaves. Not even somalis. Coastal somalia was bantu arab sphere of influence. The mozambique bantu sold in somalia most like were sold to bantu arab people who owned farms in southern Somalia. Please do not insult US.

You knucklehead, I know you're francophone but wtf, can your tiny brain compute simple English or nah?

That's what I said. I never said we took Mozambique. If you can't understand that then there is no point of debating with you.

And tell me what lies you've caught me out on?

1. You said Somalis lived in present day Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi and etc around 1000 BC and the Bantu migrants took their land. That's a lie. At that time Somalis lived in the Northern part of Ethiopia.

2. You said that the Bantu taught the cushites how to farm and so on. That's a lie. It was the southern Cushites who taught the Bantu about crop cultivation, irrigation, livestock husbandry and many other things... Basically how to farm properly.

3. You said that we (Somalis) never took land from the Bantu. That's a lie. I've shown you a credible source that clearly states that the Garre Somali pushed Bantu people from the river Juba to deep inside Kenya.

I'll be back soon though, I'll show you multiple sources describing exactly how we conquered the land and which Somali clans that did it. grin

Bantu settlement along river juba was small. So that is source of pride? They are still live in southern somalia. They fed that sh!thole of country until the civil war. Their number are small for starters.

Admit it you just have this chip on your shoulder, since you didn't take any land from Somalis you decided to talk about Iraqws and weak little cushtic tribes who by the way are still present in Tanzania. LOL

I'm talking to you as a Somali while you're crying " but the Bantu are strong" all the way from Cameroon grin

Feast your eyes on this

Half of it is cushtic grin

All somali land is desert or semi desert. See map where mijikende are settled. A long the fertile coast and river tanas(?) Fertile banks. You lands were useless to bantus then.

We introduced iron and metal tools and weapons in eastern ,southern and central Africa , so you boasting or bragging about swords and spears is funny, because when we found you ,you guys were using stones and sticks , while Bantu blacksmith were making weapons around 500BCE. You keep confirming what have been said here, we civilized you. Now say thank you

Not to mention bantus being the first to make steel. The Haya people were making carbon steel before europeans figured it out. Modern steel-making began in 1847. The Hayas produced high-grade carbon steel for about 2000 years.

Ok I may have been wrong on one occasion but hey you were the one who claimed that you brought civilisation to the 'wild Somalis'. When I proved to you that we came from up north you changed it to we taught Cushites how to farm and build irrigation systems. You were wrong on both occasions.
The fact is Bantu's have never conquered any land from Somalis, history proves that we conquered thousands of miles with a few good horsemen, swords and spears. Furthermore Bantus would have been complaining to the British from Mozambique if they hadn't stopped our expansion.

Somalis live in an arid inhospitable parts of East Africa, what would bantus do there. But believe me when bantus adopt modern farming as practiced in the US and Israel, bantus will come knocking on your door especially NFD region. Lol!

1. The very fact that their are 25 Million Somalis, shows Somalis have no problem with feeding themselves

2. Mongrel? Really.
25 million somalis? Where are they hiding? We know the somalia the country had 9 million starving somalis a few years back. Hell knows how many are left after 25 years of killing and starving each other. We know there are some somalis in Kenya and Ethiopian. Still, it does not add up to 25 million.

you can only unite with people who wants to
I am also for an African unity, but a strategic one , in fact I'm for bigger and more viable countries to swallow smaller, but sometimes I do believe it will take too much time and the cards must b redistributed and all ethnic group should have their own country then we can create nations based on our own princples, most of our countries are western creations

Am for unity of the bantu race, strictly. Any bantu out there who agree with me? We can mold this damn continent in our image. ^_^

@Camnewton4pres

Let's get the facts right here

1. Somalis never came across Bantus prior to their expansion. Somalis along with our other Cushtic cousins migrated from Southern Egypt to the Ethiopian highlands, Djibouti and Northern Somalia, where we built ancient kingdoms, city states and empires. The ruins of these ancient civilisations are still visible today.

2. I don't know the kind of bogus history books you've read but there is no single document that supports your argument; that Bantu people conquered land from us but I can find tons of books from the British colonial era that clearly shows Bantus complaining about Somalis and begging the British to stop the Somali expansion.

3. The only time Somalis set foot in Tanzania and Mozambique was when the Ajuuraan empire along with the Omani sultan liberated your people from the Portuguese. The Portuguese reconquered the southern east African coast later.

4. The semi arid lands that Somalis inhabit today were lush green valleys once, no one pushed us there rather we migrated to that land from the north.

5. Jamame, Kismayu, Garissa, Serenley, Liboi and many other towns in southern Somalia/northern Kenya were evidently Bantu towns hence those names. I can't think of any Bantu towns which carry Somali names that may hint a Bantu expansion on Somali land.

Nosense. Am yet to hear of any confrontation between bantus and somalis. Trying impress West africans that you are worth something, are we? Did you know that somalias second city kismayo was founded by bantu? Bantus name for the city is Chisimayu. Marka is another bantu settlement on somalia coast. Maaka, as bantu called it, was the furthest bantu settlement in somalia. Bravanese are remnants of bantu arab mixed people who feel superior to somslis. ^_^ The bantu arab influence came to end with the creation somalia by Europeans. Somalis lived in the bush with their animals. Mogadishu was founded by persian traders. Now tell us again how influential somali were?

Sharap
We did both

Somalis have never confronted bantus except the bantu mixed minority in southern Somalia. Even they did kick your asses at one time. East Africa was cushetic and nilotic. Bantus came and took over most if the fertile lands and split the southern cushites, in Tanzania, from their northern brothers. Now we are in Somalia trying to sort out you failed state. You Can't maintain a third world country how can you claim you civilized bantus?

How does it make you feel that lives of somalis are dependent on the people you call slaves. It is Kenyans, South Africans, Ugandans, Tanzanians keeping your country safe. On top of that most somalis seek refuge in these countries.

So is safe to say, you are worst of than a slave.

Am new here. Am surprised that you folks give somalis so much attention. Am East african bantu. We know somalis well. They are animals. Don't pay them no mind. They are low life people. In Kenya they treated like sh!t and in bantu countries they lives in slums you woukd not catch me dead. They the most marginalised people in Kenya. Thry claim that the enslaved bantu is nonsense. Around 1800, the area around Mozambique and Tanzania was hit by draught. Arab traders duped some local bantus promising them employment up north. And enslaved them. At the time coastal Somalia was run by the Bantu swahili and arabs. They were the overlords who had farms in southern Somalia. Thats how bantu "slaves" wound in southern Somalia. Somalis were busy running after camel in the desert bushes. They lived like their animals. Most of those bantus from Mozambique escaped and joined bantu farmers who had lived in the area along two rivers with fertile soil since bantus entered East Africa.. I repeat no somali owned a bantus slave. There could be isolated cases but do not believe the hype. Bantus are masters of East Africa. Bantus run
the damn region.
