Career › Documenting My Journey: Preparing For STCW Safety Training And Sea Farer Cert by Naemeze(op): 7:57am On Sep 13
Greetings Nairalanders,

My name is Wisdom Ogbonna. I am opening this thread to document my step-by-step professional development as I pursue a career as a certified seafarer in the maritime sector.

To work on sea-going vessels, every seafarer is legally required by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) to complete mandatory STCW Basic Safety Training alongside medical fitness examinations.

Because information on maritime entry pathways can be scarce, I am sharing my daily preparation, requirements, and progress publicly to assist anyone else aiming to enter the industry.

Overview of Mandatory STCW Modules:

For those exploring a maritime career, the STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping) foundational courses consist of four key modules:

Personal Survival Techniques (PST): Practical training on sea survival equipment and emergency abandon-ship protocols.

Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FPFF): Shipboard fire hazard identification, prevention, and emergency response.

Elementary First Aid (EFA): Immediate medical emergency response and life-support measures on board.

Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities (PSSR): Understanding shipboard safety management, pollution prevention, and operational safety.

Daily Documentation & Public Logs:

I record daily video logs tracking this journey to ensure total operational transparency. You can follow daily video updates on social media via the handle: @naemeze_

I will update this thread regularly with key takeaways, training preparation steps, and career updates. Questions about the certification process are welcome.
