September 14, 2020: In the northeast (mainly Borno state) corruption and continued Boko Haram violence have crippled the educational system, as well as the economy and much else. In the last decade Boko Haram has destroyed or damaged over a thousand schools and caused more than 1,500 schools to be closed in Borno. This has crippled efforts to educate about four million students. Efforts to repair the damage are crippled by corruption and continued Boko Haram violence. The Islamic terrorists are finding that the local refugee camps are a valuable resource. There are always some armed gangs in these camps, where the usual local leadership of elders or elected officials is lacking. Boko Haram has become the most powerful gang in many camps, although they do not publicize their Boko Haram affiliation because the army will enter the camp to deal with extraordinary circumstances. The usual poverty, unemployment and lack of schools is considered normal and Boko Haram exploits it to recruit supporters. For uneducated and unemployed teenage boys, joining Boko Haram to be a fighter seems attractive because there is the prospect of loot and sex. Teenage girls are often coerced to be suicide bombers.

A growing portion of Boko Haram income is from extortion payments. In many parts of northern Borno state Boko Haram can make use of the roads impossible for personal and commercial traffic, unless these drivers pay a fee to get past the Boko Haram roadblock. Sharing control of the roads with the military makes it possible for Boko Haram assassins to go after local leaders who are usually tribal chiefs or government officials. In the aftermath of these deaths the replacement leaders tend to be more accommodating to Boko Haram demands. Captured civilians are used as slave labor as well as hostages for ransom. Few families in northern Borno can afford a ransom so the captives are gone until they die, escape or are rescued by the army.

The objective of all this mayhem is to enable Boko Haram to slowly take control of the population and government in the north.

Boko Haram violence in 2014-15 resulted in Boko Haram taking control of many parts of northern Borno. That control was broken by 2017 because of a massive army offensive. Boko Haram was diminished and scattered but not destroyed and the Islamic terrorists changed their tactics, rebuilt their numbers and sought to make a comeback. Boko Haram has been more successful at that than the army has been at destroying them.

The Boko Haram violence has caused nearly 300,000 Nigerians to seek refuge in Cameroon, Chad and Niger. Most of these refugees live in refugee camps, which have become a refuge for Boko Haram members. Back in Nigeria (mainly Borno state) there are still over two million internal refugees from Islamic terrorist and tribal violence in northern Nigeria. Despite years of efforts by the army, Boko Haram has become a permanent presence in northern Borno state and able to regularly carry out attacks in Cameroon and Niger as well.

Northern neighbors Chad, Cameroon and Niger criticize Nigeria for not maintaining discipline in the army and making Nigeria as inhospitable for Boko Haram as Chad, Cameroon and Niger. These three countries are raided by Boko Haram based in Nigeria and the Islamic terrorists have had a much more difficult time establishing bases in these nations.

Cameroon has had the most trouble with Boko Haram in part because it shares a long border with eastern Nigeria. Northern Cameroon is less populous and developed as neighboring Nigeria but the Cameroonian military is more effective. Cameroon civilians have the most problems with Boko Haram in areas where refugee camps for Nigerians are located. There is a growing popular demand in Cameroon for the Nigerian refugees to be forced back into Nigeria because of the way Boko Haram uses the camps as a refuge and source of support.

Since the 2010 Boko Haram violence along Lake Chad, the borders with Niger and Chad have been a major battleground. In that decade there were nearly 30,000 dead and three million refugees. Over 80 percent Most of the dead and refugees from Boko Haram violence have been in this Nigerian border zone.

While the Boko Haram violence is coordinated in an effort to control territory, that is complicated because there are two separate factions of Boko Haram. The larger faction is also called ISWAP (Islamic State West Africa Province) and it is the cause of most of the violence near Lake Chad. ISWAP was once a faction of Boko Haram that declared its allegiance to ISIL (Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant) in 2016. Many of these new ISIL members had been with Boko Haram since 2004. ISWAP personnel are mainly in northeastern Nigeria with smaller numbers in Chad, Niger and northern Cameroon. What remains of the original Boko Haram is about half the size of ISWAP and operates in northern Borno state areas that are not near Lake Chad. The two factions have fought each other in the past, but in the last two years appear to have established some form of ceasefire and an effort to stay out of each other’s way.

Boko Haram also tends to stay away from the tribe-based violence in northern and central Nigeria. This conflict is between nomadic herders and farmers over who controls land and water resources. This conflict was a growing source of violence even before Boko Haram violence appeared in 2004. For a few years (2015-17) Boko Haram was killing more people but since 2018 Boko Haram has declined while the farmer-herder violence has increased. Overall Nigeria has been suffering 400-500 deaths a month from the Islamic terrorists and tribal violence. Most of the dead are civilians. Because of all this violence in the north local and national government is losing control of much of the Moslem north. While that loss of control is seen as a national crisis, it is not as important as the oil fields in the far south, in the Niger River Delta. Security in the oil producing states gets far more attention than anywhere in the north. The semi-desert north has long been less prosperous than the moister south, with its oil, more rainfall and access to the sea.

September 1, 2020: In the northeast (Borno state) Boko Haram gunmen ambushed some soldiers while another Boko Haram group attacked an army base in the same area (Magumeri) near Lake Chad. At least twenty soldiers died plus a number of Islamic terrorists. Boko Haram was able to take their dead and wounded with them when they withdrew. There have been several Boko Haram attacks in the area in the last month. The army is vulnerable to these attacks but is also able to bring in reinforcements quickly. Often the air force has armed aircraft aloft in the area and these are directed to site of the Boko Haram clash and often cause the Islamic terrorists a lot of casualties and destroy vehicles Boko Haram uses to move around with and especially to get away from airstrikes. Neighboring Chad has encouraged Nigeria to use its air force more aggressively and effectively to find Boko Haram camps and go after them and keep going after these Islamic terrorist bases until the Islamic terrorists move somewhere else or fall apart because of the lack of base areas. Chad attributes the chronic and widespread corruption in the Nigerian security forces (military and police) for the inability to emulate Chad.

August 18, 2020: In the northeast (Borno state) soldiers escorted a convoy of trucks taking 1,200 refugees back to their homes in Kukawa (near Lake Chad) on August 2nd. Today Boko Haram raided the reoccupied town and kidnapped several hundred of the returned refugees and stole whatever they could find. Another Boko Haram group attacked the nearby army base that had been established to keep Boko Haram out of the areas. News of this attack gets back to the refugee camps in southern Borno state and discourage refugees from returning to their abandoned homes, businesses and farms in the north, especially near Lake Chad where Boko Haram is still present in sufficient numbers to keep the army on the defensive much of the time.

Nigeria can lift every Nigerian from poverty in 30 days

Assuming 1,000,000 Nigerians have N1 billion and above in account and are given an incentive to encourage them to donate N100 million to a Economy Stabilisation Fund which will be share to all Nigerian.

Nigeria population is 200 million.

N100 million* 1 miilion Nigerians = N100,000,000,000,000 (100,trillion) / 200 ,000,000= N500,000 per Nigeria .

With N500,000 one can start a good business.

The Incentive they will get can be 200% directly from federal government revenue from tax, you will agree that revenue will increase as a result of the action. since they are the catalyst , they deserve the 200% cashback .
Health / Coronavirus Treatment: Cardiopulmonary Bypass (CPB) and Lungs Irrigation Surgery by naijapower(m): 7:00am On Apr 11, 2020
The Convid-19 attacks the lungs, thereby causing pneumonia which results in all deaths, due to the fact, that the affected lungs can no longer provide oxygen sufficiently for the patients. lacks of which result in death.

The are various methods used in treating convid-19 patients that is saving lives, but their weakness most times result in death.

Using Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) Surgery and Irrigation early will saves all lives.

Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is a technique in which a machine temporarily takes over the function of the heart and lungs during surgery, maintaining the circulation of blood and the oxygen content of the patient's body. The CPB pump itself is often referred to as a heart–lung machine or "the pump". Cardiopulmonary bypass pumps are operated by perfusionists. CPB is a form of extracorporeal circulation. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation is generally used for longer-term treatment.

CPB mechanically circulates and oxygenates blood for the body while bypassing the heart and lungs. It uses a heart–lung machine to maintain perfusion to other body organs and tissues while the surgeon works in a bloodless surgical field. The surgeon places a cannula in the right atrium, vena cava, or femoral vein to withdraw blood from the body. Venous blood is removed from the body by the cannula and then filtered, cooled or warmed, and oxygenated before it is returned to the body by a mechanical pump. The cannula used to return oxygenated blood is usually inserted in the ascending aorta, but it may be inserted in the femoral artery, axillary artery, or brachiocephalic artery (among others).[1][2]

Irrigation of the lungs will kill the virus in the lungs and wash out all toxic .
Both method when use very early is better than trying drugs which sometimes result in death. Since there is no stable treatment for convid-19, using the above methods is the only best option though it is expensive.
The above method is the only treatment with atleast 85% chance of saving the lives of the elderly, pregnant, people with other diseases etc.
Health / WH Peter Navarro Explodes At Fauci In Heated Showdown Over Hydroxychloroquine by naijapower(m): 2:07pm On Apr 06, 2020
by Tyler Durden
Sun, 04/05/2020 - 23:25

White House economic adviser got into a massive argument with the coronavirus task force's Anthony Fauci over the doctor's ongoing resistance to the use of hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19, despite reports of the drug's widespread efficacy.

Via Axios:

Numerous government officials were at the table, including Fauci, coronavirus response coordinator Deborah Birx, Jared Kushner, acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf, and Commissioner of Food and Drugs Stephen Hahn.
Behind them sat staff, including Peter Navarro, tapped by Trump to compel private companies to meet the government's coronavirus needs under the Defense Production Act.
According to the report, towards the end of the meeting Hahn began a discussion of the commonly used malaria drug hydroxychloroquine - which was recently rated the 'most effective therapy' for coronavirus according to a global survey of more than 6,000 doctors.

After Hahn gave an update on various trials and real-world use of the drug, Navarro got up and dropped a stack of folders on the table to pass around.

According to Axios's source, "the first words out of his [Navarro's] mouth are that the studies that he's seen, I believe they're mostly overseas, show 'clear therapeutic efficacy,'" adding "Those are the exact words out of his mouth.

Fauci - who's not got his own Twitter hashtag, #FireFauci - began pushing back against Navarro, repeating his oft-repeated contention that 'there's only anecdotal evidence' that the drug works against COVID-19.

Navarro exploded - after Fauci's mention of anecdotal evidence "just set Peter off." The economic adviser shot back "That's the science, not anecdote," while pointing to the stack of folders on the desk, which included the results of studies from around the world showing its efficacy.

Here's what unfolded next, via Axios:

Navarro started raising his voice, and at one point accused Fauci of objecting to Trump's travel restrictions, saying, "You were the one who early on objected to the travel restrictions with China," saying that travel restrictions don't work. (Navarro was one of the earliest to push the China travel ban.)

Fauci looked confused, according to a source in the room. After Trump imposed the travel restrictions, Fauci has publicly praised the president's restriction on travel from China.
Pence was trying to moderate the heated discussion. "It was pretty clear that everyone was just trying to get Peter to sit down and stop being so confrontational," said one of the sources.
Eventually, Kushner turned to Navarro and said, "Peter, take yes for an answer," because most everyone agreed, by that time, it was important to surge the supply of the drug to hot zones.
The principals agreed that the administration's public stance should be that the decision to use the drug is between doctors and patients.
Trump ended up announcing at his press conference that he had 29 million doses of hydroxychloroquine in the Strategic National Stockpile.
According to a source familiar with the coronavirus task force, "There has never been a confrontation in the task force meetings like the one yesterday," adding "People speak up and there's robust debate, but there's never been a confrontation. Yesterday was the first confrontation."

Meanwhile, 37% of 6,227 doctors across 30 countries felt the drug was the "most effective therapy" out of 15 options in treating coronavirus, according to a poll reported by the Washington Times.

The drug has been prescribed in 72% of cases in Spain, 49% in Italy, 41% in Brazil, 39% in Mexico, 28% in France, and 23% in the USA. Overall, 19% of physicians have prescribed the drug for high-risk patients, and 8% for low-risk patients.

Sermo CEO Peter Kirk called the polling results a “treasure trove of global insights for policy makers.”

“Physicians should have more of a voice in how we deal with this pandemic and be able to quickly share information with one another and the world,” he said. “With censorship of the media and the medical community in some countries, along with biased and poorly designed studies, solutions to the pandemic are being delayed.”

The survey also found that 63% of U.S. physicians believe restrictions should be lifted in six weeks or more, and that the epidemic’s peak is at least 3-4 weeks away.

The survey also found that 83% of global physicians anticipate a second global outbreak, including 90% of U.S. doctors but only 50% of physicians in China.

On average, U.S. coronavirus testing takes 4-5 days, while 10% of cases take longer than seven days. In China, 73% of doctors reported getting rest results back in 24 hours.

In cases of ventilator shortages, all countries but China said the top criteria should be patients with the best chance of recovery (47%), followed by patients with the highest risk of death (21%), and then first responders (15%).

Foreign Affairs / King Of Thailand Self-isolates From Coronavirus With 20 Women.theguardian by naijapower(m): 6:26am On Apr 02, 2020
BY MICHAEL BAMIDELE
30 MARCH 2020 | 9:15 PM

King of Thailand Maha Vajiralongkorn

The king of Thailand has gone into self-isolation during the coronavirus outbreak with 20 women at a grand hotel in southern Germany, according to media reports.

King Maha Vajiralongkorn, also known as Rama X, is reported to have booked out all of the Grand Hotel Sonnenbichl in Bavaria to self-isolate during the coronavirus pandemic.

According to German tabloid Bild, the 67-year-old king booked out all of the Grand Hotel Sonnenbichl in Bavaria after getting the special permission from local officials.

The king intended on having more of his party at the hotel, however, 119 members of the royal entourage are thought to have been sent back to Thailand amid concerns they might have contracted Covid-19.

Hotels in the region were ordered to close due to the coronavirus crisis, but a spokesperson for the local district council said the Grand Hotel Sonnenbichl was an exception because “the guests are a single, homogenous group of people with no fluctuation”.

Reacting to the report of Vajiralongkorn’s apparent self-isolation in a luxury location, thousands of Thai people risked breaking country’s law in a social media protest against the king.

Under the archaic laws, anyone who insults or criticises the monarchy faces up to 15 years behind bars.

But a hashtag which translated to ‘Why do we need a king?’ appeared 1.2 million times on Twitter within 24 hours of news breaking he was in Germany, reports The Times.

Foreign Affairs / Some States Now Intercepting Travelers From Other States And Send To Isolation. by naijapower(m): 11:36pm On Mar 30, 2020
Authored by Michael Snyder via The End of The American Dream blog,

All of a sudden, people all over the country are very afraid of travelers from New York, Louisiana and other COVID-19 “hotspots” across the nation. In fact, as you will see below, some states are now trying to intercept travelers from other states and force them into quarantine. Measures that would have been unthinkable just a few short weeks ago have now become a reality, and things are likely to get even crazier in the days ahead. If this pandemic is causing this much fear already even though less than 3,000 Americans have died so far, what will the level of fear be if 30,000 or 300,000 Americans die?

Unfortunately, many experts are now warning that the death toll will eventually get very high in this country. For example, on Sunday Dr. Anthony Fauci told CNN that he expects to see more than 100,000 deaths in the U.S. alone…

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the government’s top expert on infectious diseases, predicted Sunday that the United States will end up with “millions” of cases of coronavirus and up to 200,000 deaths by the time the pandemic ends, though he cautioned that any projection of mortality statistics could “easily” end up being wrong.

“Looking at what we’re seeing now, I would say between 100,000-200,000 [deaths],” Fauci said in an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

This virus spreads so easily from person to person, and once it gets loose in a city it can spread like wildfire.

Right now, New York City is being hit harder than anywhere else in the country. At this point close to 700 members of the NYPD have tested positive for the virus, and the public transportation system is being flooded with calls from sick employees…

The MTA’s 24-hour hot line for workers with coronavirus symptoms is constantly crashing because it’s being flooded with calls — and higher-ups are bracing for a mass sickout, transit insiders told The Post.

Bus and subway employees already called out sick at three times the normal rate last week, prompting the MTA to dramatically reduce service.

Overall, the death toll in New York has reached nearly 1,000, and many believe that what we have seen so far is just the beginning.

Needless to say, hospitals are rapidly being overwhelmed, and basic medical supplies are being used up fast.

Fortunately, a lot of outside help is coming in. On Sunday, I was greatly encouraged to learn that Samaritan’s Purse is actually putting up a field hospital in Central Park…

Dozens of people worked in a drizzle to erect the facility for an expected influx of COVID-19 patients at the epicenter of the US coronavirus pandemic.

Samaritan’s Purse, a US-based Christian global relief agency, is setting up the hospital on the park’s East Meadow lawn, where workers in face masks unloaded a white tarp and other equipment on the grass. The site is right across from one of the facilities in the Mount Sinai hospital group.

But as other states have watched the nightmare that is currently unfolding in New York, they have become greatly alarmed, and some have even taken measures to try to prevent New Yorkers from spreading the virus to their communities.

Beginning on Friday, authorities in Rhode Island started stopping vehicles “with New York plates”, and any New Yorkers that were discovered were forced into “14 days of self-quarantine”…

Rhode Island police began stopping cars with New York plates Friday. On Saturday, the National Guard will help them conduct house-to-house searches to find people who traveled from New York and demand 14 days of self-quarantine.

“Right now we have a pinpointed risk,” Governor Gina Raimondo said. “That risk is called New York City.”

When New York Governor Andrew Cuomo found out about this, he went ballistic, because it specifically discriminated against citizens of his state.

So Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo later expanded the directive to include anybody coming into Rhode Island from any other state…

Gov. Gina Raimondo instead has expanded the order to include ‘any person’ coming to Rhode Island from another state to ‘immediately self-quarantine for 14 days’.

The directive, signed late Saturday, does not apply to health workers or those working in public safety. It reads: ‘Any person coming to Rhode Island from another state for a non-work-related purpose must immediately self-quarantine for 14 days.’

Of course Rhode Island is basically the size of a postage stamp, and so not that many people are too worried about what they are doing.

But Florida is a much bigger deal.

Florida has already been forcing anyone flying in from New York to self-quarantine for 14 days, and on Friday Governor Ron DeSantis expanded that directive to include anyone traveling into the state from Louisiana…

New Orleans is experiencing a coronavirus surge of more than 1,000 infections linked to the Mardi Gras celebration in February, sending Louisiana’s total number of cases past 3,300 as of Saturday. DeSantis wants to intercept any Louisiana travelers from “seeding” the virus in Florida.

It’s about a three-hour drive from New Orleans to Pensacola, Florida, and panhandle officials had expressed concerns to him about travelers fleeing the Bayou State and carrying the virus into Florida.

In fact, a highway checkpoint has already been set up on Interstate 10 so that police can monitor who is coming into the state…

“Look, we’re either trying to fight this virus or we are not,” DeSantis said of his plan that includes a checkpoint on Interstate 10 at the Alabama line and National Guard members greeting travelers from the New York City area at airports.

In the days ahead, more states may start implementing such measures.

So if you are still not where you want to be to ride out this pandemic, you need to get there as quickly as possible.

We still don’t know how bad this crisis is going to become. It may fizzle out with just a few hundred thousand deaths globally, or we may end up with a nightmare scenario in which millions die.

We just don’t know yet.

But those that are running things are starting to act like we are facing a worst case scenario, and that should deeply alarm us all.

For instance, I was quite surprised to learn that officials from U.S. Northern Command have isolated themselves inside the giant Cheyenne Mountain facility in Colorado…

‘To ensure that we can defend the homeland despite this pandemic, our command and control watch teams here in the headquarters split into multiple shifts and portions of our watch team began working from Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station, creating a third team at an alternate location as well,’ Air Force General Terrence O’Shaughnessy, head of U.S. Northern Command and NORAD, said during a Facebook Live town hall with those under his command.

Perhaps such a move is warranted during a time of great crisis, but what really got my attention was the following statement that O’Shaughnessy made…

‘My primary concern was … are we going to have the space inside the mountain for everybody who wants to move in there, and I’m not at liberty to discuss who’s moving in there,’ O’Shaughnessy added.

Ummm, what?

Apparently so many people were clamoring to get inside Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station that he was concerned that there wouldn’t be room for them all?

I don’t like the sound of that at all.

We live in very strange times, and they are about to get even stranger.

I hope that you are somewhere safe, and I hope that you are well stocked up for the long, dark months that are ahead of us.

Health / Coronavirus: Need For Mass Treatment Now With Chloroquine, Antibiotics, by naijapower(m): 10:03pm On Mar 30, 2020
According the NCDC latest data as at 30th march 2020. There are 131 cased of convid-19 in Nigeria based on the test conducted by NCDC so far. this figure will rise as more test are conducted.

The danger of Testing , Confirmation and Treatment is high, as convid-19 will have more time to destroy victims vital organs of the body before treatment is commence. Which will increase the dearth rate.

Since NAFDAC has approve clinical trial of Chloroquine for treatment of Convid-19 cases, and there report of at least 50% effective positive result from the use of Chloroquine in the treatment of convid-19 in other nations.

Chloroquine is one drug every Nigerian understand. Most people have self medicate themselves with chloroquine and they still do.

The Dosage of 4:4:2 of Chloroquine is very harsh on the liver, kidney. A Chloroquine dosage of 2:2:2:2:2: for five days, will give same result .

The NCDC should authorised Medical professional to issue Chloroquine and other related drugs like antibiotics, blood tonic. to Nigerian now, as it will save lives. and reduces/ eliminate unnecessary testing of people that has normal flu symptoms .
Health / Coronavirus: The Detectives Racing To Contain The Virus In Singapore. BBC by naijapower(m): 6:43pm On Mar 29, 2020
By Karishma Vaswani
BBC News, Singapore
19 March 2020

In Singapore, one of the first places hit by coronavirus, detectives are tracking down potential positive cases to try to stay one step ahead of the virus. How did they do this and is it too late for the rest of the world?

In mid-January, a group of 20 tourists from the Chinese city of Guangxi arrived in Singapore for Chinese New Year. They visited some of its most glamorous sights.

Also on their itinerary was a non-descript traditional Chinese medicine shop, selling crocodile oil and herbal products. The shop is popular with mainland tourists.

They were served by a dedicated saleswoman who showed them various products, even massaging medicated oil on their arms. The Chinese group finished the tour and went home.

But they had left something behind.

Medicine shop
At that point, the 18 coronavirus cases in Singapore had only been found in arrivals from mainland China.

But on 4 February, Singapore's government reported that the virus had spread into the local community - and the Yong Thai Hang Chinese medicine shop was its first cluster, with a local tour guide and that enthusiastic saleswoman falling ill.

An outbreak began at a health shop
From that one shopping trip, nine people became infected, including the saleswoman's husband, her six-month-old baby and their Indonesian domestic helper. Two other staff members also caught it.

They have now recovered, but it could have been much worse if Singapore didn't have a sophisticated and extensive contact tracing programme, which follows the chain of the virus from one person to the next, identifying and isolating those people - and all their close contacts - before they can spread the virus further.

"We would have ended up like Wuhan," says Leong Hoe Nam, an infectious diseases specialist at the Mount Elizabeth Novena hospital and a Singapore government advisor.

"The hospitals would be overwhelmed."

In total, 6,000 people have been contact traced to date
As of 16 March, Singapore had confirmed 243 cases and no deaths. For about 40% of those people, the first indication they had was the health ministry telling them they needed to be tested and isolated.

In total, 6,000 people have been contact traced to date, using a combination of CCTV footage, police investigation and old fashioned, labour-intensive detective work - which often starts with a simple telephone call.

A call from a stranger
It was one of those calls on a sunny Saturday afternoon during a barbecue that led to Singapore-based British yoga teacher Melissa (not her real name) learning she was at risk of contracting the virus.

"It was surreal," she says, describing the moment an unknown number flashed up on her phone.

"They asked 'were you in a taxi at 18:47 on Wednesday?' It was very precise. I guess I panicked a bit, I couldn't think straight."

Melissa eventually remembered that she was in that taxi - and later when she looked at her taxi app realised it was a trip that took just six minutes.

To date, she doesn't know whether it was the driver or another passenger who was infected.

All she knows is that it was an officer at Singapore's health ministry that made the phone call, and told her that she needed to stay at home and be quarantined.

The next day Melissa found out just how serious the officials were. Three people turned up at her door, wearing jackets and surgical masks.

"It was a bit like out of a film," she says. "They gave me a contract - the quarantine order - it says you cannot go outside your home otherwise it's a fine and jail time. It is a legal document.

"They make it very clear that you cannot leave the house. And I knew I wouldn't break it. I know that I live in a place where you do what you're told."

Two weeks later, Melissa had shown no symptoms of Covid-19 and could leave her house.

In Singapore, most people know somebody who has been contact traced and that is part of the point. With almost 8,000 people per sq km it's one of the most densely populated countries on Earth. An unidentified infected cluster could spread the disease rapidly.

The potential strain on the economy and health service could be huge. Singapore had little choice but to try to find and isolate everybody at risk.

Detectives solving a puzzle
Conceicao Edwin Philip is one of three contact tracers at Singapore General Hospital, one of the government hospitals responsible for treating coronavirus patients.

His team is the first to talk to patients when they come to hospital, to find out who they've been in contact with and where they've been.

"Once we get the results from the labs [of a positive case] we have to drop everything and push through the night till about 3am. The next day, you start again," he says.

They hand that vital information to staff at the Ministry of Health who continue with the process.

"Without this first piece, nothing can be connected. It is like a puzzle, you have to piece it all together," he says.

Singapore was even deploying the armed forces in contact tracing
Zubaidah Said leads one of the Ministry of Health teams tasked with that next job.

Often her teams face challenges gathering information - some patients are too sick to answer for instance - and that makes their job much harder.

"As far as possible for such cases, we will try to have second information, but again that has been difficult" she says.

That is where the next team comes in, because Singapore also has the advantage of having police criminal investigation units on the case.

"The police and the ministry hold daily teleconferences to exchange information," senior assistant commissioner (SAC) of police Lian Ghim Hua, of the Criminal Investigation Department told the BBC via email.

"An average of 30 to 50 officers are working on contact tracing on any given day, and the number has scaled up to over 100 officers at times."

The contact tracing is done on top of the police's daily duties - something made possible by Singapore's low crime rate.

On occasion officers have also roped in assistance from the criminal investigative department, the narcotics bureau, and the police intelligence services.

They use CCTV footage, data visualisation and investigations to help them trace contacts whose identities aren't known in the first instance, for example a taxi passengers who did not make an app booking, or paid by cash.

EASY STEPS: What should I do?
A SIMPLE GUIDE: What are the symptoms?
SYMPTOMS: Should I self-isolate?
MAPS AND CHARTS: Visual guide to the outbreak
VIDEO: The 20-second hand wash
The effectiveness is clear from the case of Julie, who went to hospital feeling dizzy and feverish in early February.

Less than an hour after doctors told her she had contracted the virus, the system kicked in.

"I was on my hospital bed when I got the call," she said. What followed was a meticulous questioning of everything Julie had done and everyone she had met over the last seven days.

None of the people who were identified as close contacts of Julie (far right) developed the virus
"They wanted to know who I was with, what I was doing, what their names were and then their contact numbers.

Officials were looking for close contacts, typically someone who spent more than 30 minutes with the infected person, within a 2m space.

"There was no interest in someone I had brushed shoulders with even if it was someone that I knew. They were looking for people I had spent some amount of time with."

Julie spoke to the contact tracer for almost three hours. At the end of that phone call, she had identified 50 people. All were contacted by the Ministry of Health, and served 14-day quarantine orders.

Not one developed the virus.

The 'gold standard'
Contact-tracing isn't new - it's been used for decades to track patients who may have passed their illness to others during their stay.

But Singapore's use of the system during this crisis was praised by Harvard epidemiologists in early February, who described it as a "gold standard of near-perfect detection".

The World Health Organization has also praised Singapore for being proactive even before the first case was detected.

Singapore, unlike the US and much of Europe, started contact tracing early to stay ahead of community spread.

"If you leave it too late then everything becomes so much harder to do, because there are so many cases," says Dr Siousxie Wiles, associate professor at the University of Auckland in New Zealand.

But the level of precision and detection used in Singapore would not be possible in most countries.

There are not many nations that have the level of surveillance Singapore has, which the WHO told the BBC in an email, "has allowed for the rapid identification and management of cases".

That's coupled with largely compliant behaviour from the general population - when the government calls and asks you questions, it is a near-certainty that everyone will co-operate.

Singapore's Infectious Diseases Act also makes it illegal for anyone to refuse co-operation with the police in their attempts to gather information.

The penalty is a S$10,000 ($6,900; £5,800) fine, prison for six months - or both.

Two Chinese nationals have already been charged under the act for giving police false information about their whereabouts during contact tracing. No wonder, Mr Conceicao notes, in almost all of cases people are extremely accommodating.

How 'trace, test and treat' may be saving lives in South Korea
Are South Korea's alerts too revealing?
The mysterious 'cult' blamed for South Korea's outbreak
"To use police for contact tracing in this manner of investigating is quite unique to Singapore," says Chong Ja Ian, an associate professor at the National University of Singapore.

"But in Singapore, this is something people are exposed to and are familiar with. Singaporeans have grown up and lived with a highly surveilled society, so it's become normalised for them. The sort of reach that the state has is not questioned as much, it's taken for granted. People have learned to live with this."

Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea have all seen varying levels of success over the last week, using different strategies from big data, social distancing and mass testing to get numbers under control.

Contrast that with other Asian countries with large populations, poor healthcare and detection systems like Indonesia, and that means trying to find those infected is like looking for a needle in a haystack. They have no idea where the next case is coming from.

"Societies which have strong technocratic elites able to conduct long-term planning and relatively high levels of trust in experts and governments are responding better to the virus outbreak" says James Crabtree, associate professor of practice at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore.

"Hence why Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan seem to be coping better than Italy and the US."

When should you give up?
On 5 March, Singapore announced its latest - and what would become its biggest - cluster so far.

A late Chinese New Year dinner at a community club on 15 February hosted hundreds of people - that one party has yielded 47 infections so far.

They have gone on to infect others in the community, raising fears that contact tracing is fast becoming irrelevant, and that other, more stringent measures need to be enforced like school closures and lockdowns.

Singapore is also seeing an exponential rise in the number of new cases per day - most of them imported. On 18 March, for example, it announced 47 new cases - 33 were imported, mostly Singaporeans who had returned home.

It has imposed restrictions on travellers entering the country as a result.

The government says there is still value in contact tracing, because the data it collects from contact tracing helps policy makers decide which strategy to roll out at different phases of the epidemic, says Dr Said.

Image copyrightROSLAN RAHMAN
"Until we reach a stage where the numbers are so high it overwhelms our entire ability to bring sources in to try and contain outbreaks as they arise that may be a time when we have to think about changing our strategy," Kenneth Mak, Singapore's deputy director of medical services says.

"But we don't see that as something that we need to consider very seriously at this point in time."

Almost two months into the outbreak, there have been no deaths in Singapore.

Singapore has credited that to its healthcare services but also its contact tracing.

It has bought time, so doctors could treat the people in hospital who really needed treatment, without overwhelming healthcare services the way it happened in Wuhan.

The reality is that Singapore will have to give up contact tracing if numbers continue to rise. It is expensive, labour intensive and at some point the virus will overtake the contact tracers.

But until then it is a race against an invisible offender. The tracers know it just takes a few more untraceable cases before the virus begins surging through the population.

Health / Iran Begins Use Of Plasma For COVID-19 Patients.presstv by naijapower(m): 6:25pm On Mar 29, 2020
Sunday, 29 March 2020 10:56 AM [ Last Update: Sunday, 29 March 2020 10:56 AM ]

As the proportion of patients infected with COVID-19 continues to rise in Iran, Masih Daneshvari Hospital in Tehran is facilitating access to COVID-19 convalescent plasma for use in patients with COVID-19 infections. This is while a number of the medical staff in the hospital are among the plasma donors who have been infected and have recovered recently.

The method has been used in the past to treat diseases such as polio, and in previous outbreaks of respiratory infections similar to COVID-19.

The decision came after Ali Akbar Velayati, head of Masih Daneshvari Hospital, said they would begin to treat critically ill patients with plasma. So far, over 1,000 infected cases have been treated in the center.

The plasma from people who have recovered from COVID-19 may contain antibodies to the virus that causes the disease and might be effective against the infection. The plasma must be collected from recovered patients who can donate blood, have had no symptoms for 14 days, and have had negative results on COVID-19 tests.

Iran says US sanctions are targeting every aspect of its economy. This is while many world leaders have called on Washington to suspend the restrictions that have negatively impacted Iran’s efforts to curb the outbreak. Washington has so far rejected the calls.

Board Certified Family Practitioner

March 23, 2020

To all medical professionals around the world:

My name is Dr. Zev Zelenko and I practice medicine in Monroe, NY. For the last 16 years, I have cared for approximately 75% of the adult population of Kiryas Joel, which is a very close knit community of approximately 35,000 people in which the infection spread rapidly and unchecked prior to the imposition of social distancing.

As of today my team has tested approximately 200 people from this community for Covid-19, and 65% of the results have been positive. If extrapolated to the entire community, that means more than 20,000 people are infected at the present time. Of this group, I estimate that there are 1500 patients who are in the high-risk category (i.e. >60, immunocompromised, comorbidities, etc).

Given the urgency of the situation, I developed the following treatment protocol in the pre-hospital setting and have seen only positive results:

1. Any patient with shortness of breath regardless of age is treated.
2. Any patient in the high-risk category even with just mild symptoms is treated.
3. Young, healthy and low risk patients even with symptoms are not treated (unless their circumstances change and they fall into category 1 or 2).

My out-patient treatment regimen is as follows:

1. Hydroxychloroquine 200mg twice a day for 5 days
2. Azithromycin 500mg once a day for 5 days
3. Zinc sulfate 220mg once a day for 5 days

The rationale for my treatment plan is as follows. I combined the data available from China and South Korea with the recent study published from France (sites available on request). We know that hydroxychloroquine helps Zinc enter the cell. We know that Zinc slows viral replication within the cell. Regarding the use of azithromycin, I postulate it prevents secondary bacterial infections. These three drugs are well known and usually well tolerated, hence the risk to the patient is low.

Since last Thursday, my team has treated approximately 350 patients in Kiryas Joel and another 150 patients in other areas of New York with the above regimen.

Of this group and the information provided to me by affiliated medical teams, we have had ZERO deaths, ZERO hospitalizations, and ZERO intubations. In addition, I have not heard of any negative side effects other than approximately 10% of patients with temporary nausea and diarrhea.

In sum, my urgent recommendation is to initiate treatment in the outpatient setting as soon as possible in accordance with the above. Based on my direct experience, it prevents acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), prevents the need for hospitalization and saves lives.

With much respect,

Dr. Zev Zelenko

Coronavirus: Urgent Need For Strategic Testing And Isolation Method

In order to defeat this coronavirus pandemic and get the economy to starting working fast, we must adopt now a strategic testing and isolation method.

The Strategic Testing and Isolation method is the testing and isolation of essential workers in group based on their importance to the society in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic and getting the economy to start working again fast.

The grouping and Isolation of Essential workers will
1: Keep Critical Sectors working
2: Protect their immediate family from getting infected.
3: Help to provide quick testing and treatment to the essential workers.
4: Help us to defeat the virus fast.

Group
*: Health Workers
*: Security Personnel
*: Para Military
*: The Presidency, Governors, LG Chairman
*: Power
*: Telecommunication
*: Banks Personnel handling ATM especially.
*: Journalist
*: Drugs Factories Workers
*: Consumable Factories
*: Transporters

Hotels can be used for the isolations.

Note: Most others can work from home.

Once the essential workers are protected, we can then move to other sectors

Ensure Essential Worker Dress up in full Hazmat Suits

WHAT DO HAZMAT SUITS EVEN DO, ANYWAY?
Hazmat suits come in an assortment of shapes and sizes, some of which are higher up on the anti-disaster scale than others. But essentially, hazmat suits act as a barrier, formed by plastic, fabric and rubber, along with an independent source of oxygen. Simpler suits can be slipped on to protect against, say, some kind of dangerous liquid, whereas more advanced variations can become completely airtight to defend against airborne contaminants and toxic chemicals — which is what we’d want in the current coronavirus scenario

INITIATIATE NATIONWIDE PREVENTIVE TREATMENT.
Prevention they say is better tan cure. From report most of the people that had die, had one form of sickness as at the time , they were infected with convid-19.
since Nigeria lack the capacity to handle outbreak on large scale, and most people do not know that they had contact with convid-19 patient , thereby exposing the larger society to an outbreak on large scale. We can do better by reducing the impact with a nationwide treatment using drugs that has worked in other countries,

Politics / Coronavirus: One Danger Of Lockdown by naijapower(m): 4:50am On Mar 26, 2020
As convid-19 spread, government are locking down states, towns, communities in order to curtail the spread. Curtailing the spread is good, but the method can be far worse than coronavirus itself.

The lockdown will bring to halt the movement of goods and persons on the roads connecting communities, towns, state.

when roads becomes lonely, criminals takes advantage to attack.

By this lockdown , Drivers, vehicles convelling essential goods, which could Medical Personnel and Products , Petroleum products and other will be at the mercy of criminals.

Telecommunications Masts on high ways are also in danger.

Isolated small communities are also in danger.

The relavant authorities should take note.

One suggestion that will boost the security on our roads is for government to engage the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to assist relevant security to patrol all roads as part of the contribution to help boost the security.
NURTW can fund their contribution in personnel, vehicles, Medical style PPE.

The index patient consented to donating one unit of white blood (plasma) before he was discharged today. The blood plasma is rich in antibody proteins that target #COVID19 virus.

The white blood plasma is frozen in our Bio-bank and will be useful in handling new cases.

The blood plasma will be beneficial for the treatment of new patients in the absence of a defined therapeutic drug for #COVID19 yet.

The patient appreciated the exceptional care and support given to him by staff of the infectious Disease Hospital,Yaba and all members of the EOC.
The EOC team was extremely happy to bid the patient farewell.

As Countries lockdown, thereby grounding their economy, which in turn generate zero return on most investment.

Investors are now looking for business opportunities with guaranteed good return on investment to invest their idle funds in order to make quick and good returns.

This is an opportunity for the Nigeria government to open up sectors source raw materials locally for production for the the Nigeria market.

Government must do whatever it can to keep Nigerians working during this global crisis of caused by the coronavirus..

The government should a Special Short Term Investment Vehicle , through the foreigners can invest directly in strategic sectors of the economy. The vehicle must guaranty the investors a fixed return within a given period.

Some strategic sectors are Agriculture, Education, Entertainment, Constructions, Telecommunications, Health, Sports Tourism.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, We do not need to lockdown our economy if we take actions to initial nationwide treatment for/against the all symptoms of coronavirus using the simple nor toxic strategy in posted earlier .

The special vehicle must be manage by persons who are ready to pay with their lives if the vehicles fails to make at least 60% returns within 3 years.
Health / Coronavirus: Starting Treating Yourself And Family For Pneumonia Now by naijapower(m): 1:56pm On Mar 20, 2020
The Convid-19 causes pneumonia which is the basis for most ,or all the death recorded so far.

Pneumonia is an Infection that inflames air sacs in one or both lungs, which may fill with fluid. Pneumonia is caused by different types of germs, most commonly viruses .
With pneumonia, the air sacs may fill with fluid or pus. The infection can be life-threatening to anyone, but particularly to infants, children and people over 65.
Symptoms include a cough with phlegm or pus, fever, chills and difficulty breathing.
Antibiotics can treat many forms of pneumonia. Some forms of pneumonia can be prevented by vaccines.

Since one cannot tell ,whether he/she has the coronavirus , except through testing which is not readily available and also when the symptoms start appearing after the virus has solidify its base in the body. It is better and cheaper to treat against pneumonia by any local method that has risk.

One such method is the steam breathing. where you boil hot water, apply tiger balm, Mentholated balm . Then cover your head with towel for minutes depends on your ability. Note the water must be hot.. Do it in the morning and night. The benefit includes clearing your lungs of all foreign bodies including fluid or pus which is the major cause of death .

Bathe hot water in the morning and night, plus rub balm on your body especially your back where your lungs lies. use inhaler, balm on your nose thrice daily for four days.

The balm on your nose will suffocate the virus like other lung related cold inducing bacteria/ virus.

This method will help free hospital space for those cases that are critical and saves us from lockdown .
Health / Coronavirus, Need For A Special Quarantine Centre For Travellers Coming Into Nig by naijapower(m): 6:03pm On Mar 17, 2020
The order for travellers to self quarantine for 14 days should be cancel, because lots of people may not be honest, thereby putting the lives of others at risk.

Coronavirus has jump from people without symptoms to others.

The facility is not in every town to test for the Coronavirus, as such we should not put lives on the line.

A Special Designated centre for quarantine of every one entering Nigeria will not be convenient in the short term only. But will benefit the lives and the economy in the long run.

Nigeria must Act now to save lifes and keep the economy moving.

Coronavirus survive on a temperature of 30 degree, we are entering the raining season that boost the spread of flu and related illness. The season may give the coronavirus a boost. This is why we must stand as if the virus is in Nigeria big time.

The Coronavirus is not a death sentence. Based on information available Nigeria has the tools to defeat it fast.

Right from day one , i have always believe focus should be on checking the breath pressure of every one, a person with any respiratory related illness breath pressure will be lower than people without respiratory illness. Those with lower breath pressure can then be set aside for further testing. This process will save time, money and help to stay ahead of the virus.

Breath Analyser in the market is use to detect alcohol consumption, but it can be re-configure to detect low breath pressure.

A spirometer is an apparatus for measuring the volume of air inspired and expired by the lungs. A spirometer measures ventilation, the movement of air into and out of the lungs. The spirogram will identify two different types of abnormal ventilation patterns, obstructive and restrictive. There are various types of spirometers which use a number of different methods for measurement (pressure transducers, ultrasonic, water gauge)

Pulmonary function tests
Main article: Pulmonary function testing
A spirometer is the main piece of equipment used for basic Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs). Lung diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema can be ruled out from the tests. In addition, a spirometer is often used for finding the cause of shortness of breath, assessing the effect of contaminants on lung function, the effect of medication, and evaluating progress for disease treatment.[1]

Reasons for testing
Diagnose certain types of lung disease (such as asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema)
Find the cause of shortness of breath
Measure whether exposure to chemicals at work affects lung function
Check lung function before someone has surgery
Assess the effect of medication
Measure progress in disease treatment
