You are CORRECT that the KEY problem is people.

But DEMOCRACY is still peculiar in its CALAMITOUS nature.

The key difference between Democracy and MANY of the other forms of government is the DIRECT and ACTIVE participation of a LARGE number of the population.

In a Monarchy, you can BLAME the MAD KING for the WOES of the society.

In a DICTATORSHIP, you can BLAME the authoritarian TYRANT.

In a COMMUNIST, you can BLAME the party leaders.

In a Military Junta, you can BLAME the soldiers.

But in a Democracy, especially relatively matured ones like America, UK and Brazil, the PEOPLE are ultimately to blame.

While you are RIGHT that ALL forms of government essentially boil down to a few people (elites) CONTROLLING everything, the MASSES have a SIGNIFICANT INFLUENCE on whom those people are in a DEMOCRACY.
Unlike most of the other forms of government.

Which is why it's absolutely INSANE how they keep voting in people who want to DESTROY their lives.

But ordinary people would have had NO choice in that matter.

The 2024 US Election is perhaps the CLEAREST example that Democracy is a system of particular concern.

Choice was between Harris who wanted to assist first-time homeowners with some kind of government subsidy, assist with CHILDCARE and student loans, etc and a candidate with 34 FELONY convictions who was also a RAYPIST, PDFile, extremely CORRUPT and led an INSURRECTION to undermine the country's Democracy.

Another reason why I consider Democracy to be more of a DISASTER than other forms of government is LEGITIMACY.

Democracy enjoys the MANDATE of the MASSES.

Democracy is a SHEETLOAD of REAL people giving you their REAL support.

That is why it's deplorable when people legitimise EXTREMIST who want to destroy lives.

People advocating for Military Rule in Nigeria are extremely MISGUIDED.

Apart from the instability that'll come from the coup and counter-coups as you pointed out, there's also the WICKEDNESS of the average Nigerian Soldier.

We live in a "Democracy" yet, even now, the average Recruit thinks he's the Alpha and Omega.

They have forgotten the KOBOKOs and FROG-JUMPS of the Military Era.

As a child, I remember seeing people walking in Warri with their hands perpetually RAISED.
People RUNNING home in the evening because it's almost curfew.

Military Rule is all fun and games UNTIL you actually have to LIVE in it.

YET insecurity persists.

And it'll CONTINUE to persist because Insecurity has been COMMERCIALISED and POLITICISED.

It's financially PROFITABLE and politically BENEFICIAL.

So, it'll CONTINUE until further notice.
Regardless of who wins next year's election.

There are reports about some community COLLUDING with terrorists to HIDE them from the Military.

One of the CRAZIEST story about insecurity for me is the El-Rufai story.

A few weeks after terrorist tracked down and KILLED a General that escaped an initial terrorist attack, El-Rufai went on National Television to BRAG about WIRETAPPING the phone of the NSA.

He was arrested and some people POLITICISED the arrest.

State Police, properly IMPLEMENTED and FUNDED, will do more to COMBAT insecurity than Military Rule.

As much as I criticise Democracy and as broken as Nigeria's Democracy is, it's still a MILLION TIMES more preferable than what a Military Rule would be in Nigeria today.

Finally while every form of Government has it's own problems because of the people-factor, Democracy does NOT justify the hype and goodwill it gets.

Since Plato's IDEAL Philosopher King (aka a BENEVOLENT DICTATOR) is just a pipe dream, I'm in favour of a China-style System of Government.

Especially for the kind of CONTINUITY it provides.

Monarchy also has some kind of continuity but a WOKE Prince may choose to do something completely DIFFERENT from his father when he ascends to the throne.

The Chinese System has the kind of continuity that allows them to make TOUGH but BENEFICIAL decisions.

For instance, implementing the ONE CHILD policy when their population explosion THREATENED to derail their economic trajectory.

If they were worried about re-election in a Democratic System, they'd be unlikely to have achieved what they've achieved so far.

Juxtaposing China and India is INSTRUCTIVE here.

They are similar in POPULATION size.
India gained independence in 1947.
The PRC was formally established in 1949.

Yet China has OUTPACED India in almost every way.

The Chinese Economy is over 5X the Indian Economy.

From ALL indications, human beings should NOT be allowed to vote.
