Tanzania says Nigerians must now apply for visas and the reason isn't connected to Dangote's investments but because of a segment of Nigeria's population who are about to be ejected from SA and seeking new drug markets in Africa.

I thank President William Ruto for inviting me to Lamu County, for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Dangote East Africa Petroleum Refinery.

I am happy to see Africa waking up and moving away from the 70-year betrayal of exporting raw materials. Mr Dangote, who started as an importer and has become a national and continental asset, is a good example of the transformation we need.

The establishment of this refinery is a turning point, demonstrating our resolve to reimagine Africa's industrial future, turn our ambitions into action and tap the continent's massive potential.

For too long, Africa has exported raw materials and imported finished products, exporting wealth and jobs. We are firm in our determination to reverse this trend.

The project will boost the Kenyan economy by 12 per cent, inject additional $4 billion in foreign direct investment each year for the four years of construction, providing 60,000 direct jobs, building local expertise and accelerating the transformation of the Lamu Port South Sudan and Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor into a major industrial hub.

But this is more than a refinery. It is an integrated industrial complex featuring a 1,000MW power plant, plastic factory and the manufacturing of fertilisers and chemicals.

Presidents @KagutaMuseveni of Uganda, @WadagniRomuald of Benin and Jean-Lucien Savi de Tové of Togo, and Prime Minister @AbiyAhmedAli of Ethiopia are in Lamu for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Dangote East Africa Refinery.

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and representatives of other African governments are also present.
