Politics › Speaker Tajudeen Abbas Did Not Condemn Borrowing by naptu2(op): 5:34pm On Sep 08, 2025
Olabimiji Enitan Jowosimi (@Legendaryjoe) is the Special Assistant on New Media to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.

Legendary J.O.E @LegendaryJoe

🚨 CLARIFICATION ON FAKE NEWS 🚨

Our attention has been drawn to some mischievous posts falsely claiming that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D., GCON, condemned Nigeria’s borrowing. This is nothing but fake news and deliberate distortion.

For the record, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, never condemned borrowing. On the contrary, at the 11th Annual Conference and General Assembly of the West Africa Association of Public Accounts Committees (WAAPAC), where Speaker Abbas was duly represented by a PDP chieftain, MHR BABATUNDE SALAM, made it clear that:

✅ Public debt, if managed prudently, can be a tool for growth and prosperity.

✅ The legislature’s role is to ensure that every naira borrowed delivers tangible value to Nigerians.

✅ President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is already working assiduously to reduce reliance on borrowing through a robust non-oil revenue drive - proof of responsible fiscal management.

✅️ For the first time in decades, Nigeria has met its 2025 revenue target ahead of schedule, without reliance on borrowing. This is proof that with discipline, focus, and courage, we can reduce dependence on external loans and secure our economic sovereignty.

The Speaker’s call was not against borrowing, but for stronger oversight, transparency, and accountability so that debt translates into real development - roads, schools, hospitals, and innovation.

Let it be known: oversight of public debt is a constitutional duty and a moral responsibility of parliament. This is about safeguarding Nigeria’s financial future, not playing to the gallery of mischief-makers.

Fake news will not stand. The facts are clear, the Speaker’s position is consistent, and the message remains emphatic: responsible borrowing, prudent management, and a collective resolve for sustainable development.

The opposition, therefore, is best advised to explore other means of survival - for Speaker Abbas provides no ventilator for their gasping decline, and no cure for their terminal slide into political oblivion...

Good Evening Severally.

One of the weird things about the election season is the way that people create posts that don't make sense. God knows what they hope to achieve with it.

The first edition of the National Youth Games was held in Abuja in 2013. Cross River State won that edition, Akwa Ibom came second and Delta State came third.

The second edition was held in Ilorin, Kwara State in 2016. Delta State won that edition, Ogun State came second and Kwara State came third.

Ilorin also hosted the 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021 editions of the games (the Ministry of Sports had an agreement with the University of Ilorin).

Delta State won the 2017 edition, Akwa Ibom State came second and Ondo State came third.

Delta State also won the 2018 edition, Lagos State came second and Bayelsa and Ogun States came joint third.

Delta State won the 2019 edition, Lagos State came second and Bayelsa State came third.

Delta State won the 2021 edition, Lagos State came second and Edo State came third.

Asaba, Delta State hosted the 7th National Youth Games in 2023. Delta State won that edition, Lagos State came second and Edo State came third.

Asaba also hosted the 8th edition of the National Youth Games in 2024. Delta State won that edition (its 7th victory in a row), Lagos State came second and Edo State came third.

Lagos State won the 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State. Delta State came second and Edo State came third.

Here's the medals table of the 9th National Youth Games, Asaba 2025.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu @jidesanwoolu

I am immensely proud of Team Lagos for their outstanding performance at the 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, where they finished first on the medals table with a total of 110 medals; 52 gold medals 32 silver and 26 bronze.

Our young athletes, together with their coaches and the Lagos State Sports Commission, have made history and demonstrated the strength of Lagos in sports.

In the coming days, I look forward to hosting the team to celebrate this remarkable achievement.

Congratulations, Team Lagos. We are very proud of you all.

I see some people are writing about "advanced country". Is Bhutan more advanced than Nigeria?

I know it's deliberate, people are trying to pretend that they do not know what the issue is, but this has got nothing to do with being advanced or not being advanced. The issues are as clear as day and I explained them here.

naptu2:
Wow! Today is now competing with the day that I tried to upload Captain Tolofari's story for the title of day with the most bans. I think the bot might have gone rogue.

I no longer have any time, so I'll surmarise the plane issue here and then I'll write the 2007 edition of the election season when I get back.

Then that might be it for Nairaland for 2 weeks.

(I still didn't create the Anambra thread that I started writing before Buhari died).

1) Is there anything strange about people waving at "closed aircraft"? No, the passengers can see what's happening outside and it's done all over the world. (In fact, planes of heads of state sometimes fly flags when they are landing. The pilot opens his window and sticks out a flag).

2) Did the governors go to Abuja to wave at the president? No, they had previous engagements in Abuja. Very many governors were in Abuja for very many reasons at that time.

3) Is there anything wrong with governors going to say farewell to the president? Not at all. I have posted extensively about this over the years and I'll simply list the main points.

⚫️ Some people say that governors should be working instead of saying farewell to the president. News flash, they are working when they say farewell to the president. They are networking.

⚫️ I have told you that presidents are very busy people with a full calendar and people do whatever they can to get to see him.

⚫️ I've told you about how people who live on the Mainland come all the way to Lekki to play football, how people on the Mainland come all the way to Syrian Club to play basketball and how people do whatever they can to get into Ikoyi Club. It's not that there's no where on the Mainland to play sports, they are networking.

⚫️ I've told you how employees in the US go out to expensive dinners, which will be paid for by their companies, because they want to hook a client, how state governors in Nigeria organise state visits and state banquets because they want something from the Federal Government, etc.

⚫️ I told you how military governors from all South-West states came to Lagos for NUGA opening ceremony because they thought that the head of state would be there.

⚫️ I've also told you about how Presidential aides in Nigeria, the US and around the world try to restrict access to the president so that he can have some rest. Meeting the president in a car, plane, at the airport, state banquet or some other event is a way of getting around these restrictions.

The spin doctors are wasting their time, truth will always prevail over lies and insults.

Unfortunately this thread highlights the problems in our educational sector and how difficult it is for some people to read and comprehend simple statements.
