Miss Nigeria is owned by Daily Times Group. It began in 1957. The winner of Miss Nigeria once participated in Miss Universe, but that ended in the 1970s.
Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria is owned by Silverbird Group. It began in 1986. The winner of MBGN once represented Nigeria in Miss Universe.
Then Silverbird began to create different titles. The person that won MBGN was also called MBGN Universe and that person participated in the Miss Universe Pageant, the first runner up was called MBGN World and that person participated in the Miss World Pageant, etc.
Then, last year or thereabouts, Silverbird created the Miss Universe Nigeria Pageant. That's the pageant that Chidimma Adetshina won.
My humbled contribution to the 2025 Appropriation Bill. The bill was deliberated upon at great length in a day that turned out to be very long. In summary, there are certain budget line items that Ministries and MDA's should not be earmarking anymore. These include the new vehicles, furniture, stationeries and other equipments like computers and printers on an annual basis among others. These could last for years if managed well. As we continue to enact reforms that will shape Nigeria's sustainable development, it is imperative for public officials in the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government to keep in mind that these are dire times for our people. We should be at the front of line of making the necessary sacrifices, not the citizens. Thoroughly enjoyed the President's speech during the budget presentation. Kudos to the executive and all those that joined Mr. President in his visit to the National Assembly. Finally, I am grateful to the Speaker for the opportunity and my colleagues for the time. Happy Holidays in advance.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Benjamin Kalu: El-Rufai Bello Mohammed, the floor is yours.
Honourable Bello El-Rufai: Thank you Mr Speaker.
My name is Bello El-Rufai, I represent the good people of Kaduna North, I'm from Kaduna State.
Yesterday was a day of great privilege, we thank the President and the Executive for laying the budget.
Mr Speaker, a lot of the things have been said already. I'll try to stick to time as quickly as possible by focusing on what I think is important.
Recurrent capital is what is being discussed. Mr Speaker, I want to ask again that this House remembers to compel the Executive to implement the Oronsaye Report. That's one.
Two, we need to cut down on costs, Mr Speaker. As you rightly heard, the recurrent of various budgets . . ."
(The Deputy Speaker interrupts) : "Members need to be in this room to vote on this particular bill, so for those that are moving around, please sit to make sure you contribute in voting for this".
Honourable Bello El-Rufai: Can I go on sir?
Sir, the recurrent issue is in every budget, even a young person like myself, we budget for vehicles every year, we budget for utensils every year, so what I would like us to do, to open more revenue or block loopholes, is to look at all these ministries that are bringing their budget, if they bought vehicles last year, please they should just relax now, vehicles do not expire. These are the little things, Mr Speaker, that unless we start looking at them, the loopholes will not come out.
I want to thank the leadership for sessions like this and other experienced members, it's a learning opportunity.
Butt on this, the Oronsaye Report, Sir, should be implemented, it is key. That is one.
The second and most important thing to me, since I was a . . .well, I'm still a young man, since I was a boy, budgets every year come with new computers, new furniture, these things don't expire sir. We should cut them out totally. We can't be asking Nigerians . . .we can't have a tax reform bill that could shape the fiscal shape of this country, while as leaders we are not cutting anything.
So I urge the chairmen, I'm honoured sir that I chair a committee that has CBN, but my budget is not on here. The committee chairmen that are more experienced than myself should look into this. Nigerians are tired of every agency buying fork and knife every year. We should show them that we are serious and do these drastic cuts.
I really trust the Chairman of the Appropriation Committee and I just thought that I should raise this issue. It is an opportunity to speak and may God continue to guide us to do what is necessary for our people.
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Benjamin Kalu: "Thank you.
Nigeria should not buy fork and knife every year. And I'm happy that the Chairman of Appropriation, the Deputy Chairman of Appropriation, they are here making notes and I've been watching them and I'm also making notes, because we will also go through the work done by Appropriation, to see if all these debates happening here and issues being raised here were captured. Because it's not garbage in, garbage out. That budget with good intention from Mr President must be fine-tuned to reflect actually what he wanted to achieve by the time he conceptualised it.
WAFU B U17 Girls’ Cup Final: Nigeria’s Flamingos set for showdown with Ghana’s Maidens
The Flamingos reached the final having scored 14 goals in three matches, conceding only two.
Nigeria and Ghana will battle for the ultimate prize in the inaugural WAFU U17 Girls’ Cup on Sunday.
Incidentally, the same day, the home-based senior men’s teams of both countries will clash in Accra in the first leg of the 8th African Nations Championship qualifying fixture.
On Thursday night, in the second semi-final of the WAFU U17 Girls’ Cup, World Cup quarter-finalists Nigeria defeated their counterparts from Benin Republic 2-0, both goals coming in the second half of the encounter at the Ghana Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
Sunday’s final will also take place at the same centre, outside Accra.
Forward Mary Lucky Mkpa scored from the penalty spot in the 70th minute to put Nigeria in front, eight minutes after gangling striker Janet Akekoromowei had missed a great opportunity to put the Flamingos ahead.
Eight minutes after the opener, Peace Effiong profited from a goalkeeping error to extend Nigeria’s lead, but the referee chalked off Akekoromowei’s 84th-minute goal as the forward was judged to have impeded the goalkeeper before scoring.
The Flamingos reached the final having scored 14 goals in three matches, conceding only two, and will start with much confidence against a Ghanaian side that defeated Cote d’Ivoire’s girls 5-0 earlier in the afternoon to reach Sunday’s final.
There has been an outcry in the past 25 years about the state of many Nigerian police barracks.
Some of the barracks were built during the Colonial Era and are no longer structurally sound and fit for human habitation, some of the barracks were built solely for single police personnel and they have communal bathrooms (outside the flats), but are now being occupied by whole families and there are many other problems with the barracks.
The Obasanjo Administration began a programme of repairing the barracks, but it was not enough.
In the past 2 years the police authorities have decided to demolish these old and dilapidated barracks and to build modern and beffitting quarters for officers and men of the police force.
Among the police barracks that are scheduled to be demolished and rebuilt are the Obalende, Ijeh and Falomo Police Barracks.
As with all things Nigerian, wild rumours have been flying around since the programme started. Some people claimed that all kinds of people had stolen the land, but as you can now see, the police authorities and the government are going to build quarters for police personnel.
IGP, LAGOS STATE GOVERNOR LEAD GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY FOR NEW POLICE BARRACKS IN IJE BARRACKS, OBALENDE.
As IGP Commissions Police Operational Assets Donated By Lagos State Government.
In a significant step towards enhancing the welfare of police officers and improving state security, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM., alongside the Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, various dignitaries, and traditional rulers, today officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of new police barracks and accommodation facilities at Ije Barracks, Obalende, Lagos State. This initiative represents a pivotal step towards improving the living conditions for police personnel, with plans to replicate these developments in other major cities across Nigeria.
During the ceremony, the IGP delivered an inspiring speech, highlighting the importance of this project in the context of the Nigeria Police Force's rich legacy, established in 1820. The IGP acknowledged the disturbing trend of building collapses within these barracks and commended the previous police administration for initiating a public-private partnership with the Lagos State Government and the Nigeria Police Force Property Development Company (NPF-PDCC) to remodel and rebuild the police barracks.
The IGP also expressed gratitude to the government and stakeholders involved in making this project possible, offering assurance to the construction firms that the Force would closely monitor the progress of the construction to ensure the timely delivery of these modern facilities. The IGP further urged police officers to take pride in the new barracks and continue serving the nation with dedication, integrity, and professionalism.
In a similar development, the Inspector-General of Police also attended the Lagos State Security Town Hall meeting, where he addressed the citizens of Lagos State and joined the Governor in commissioning operational assets for the Nigeria Police Force, including over 260 patrol vans, ballistic helmets, bulletproof vests, and more, donated by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.
These initiatives mark a crucial step towards transforming the living conditions of police personnel and reinforcing the commitment to public safety in Lagos State and beyond. The Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to the welfare of its personnel, committed to enhancing its service to the public and ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians. The Force urges members of the public to support these initiatives, working together to build a safer and more prosperous society for all.

Today, I performed the groundbreaking ceremony for 2,200 police housing units at the Ijeh Police Barracks in Ikoyi.
This housing initiative underscores our administration's commitment to the welfare of our security personnel and the safety of our citizens.
It is a collaboration between the Lagos State Government and the Nigeria Police Force; and aims to enhance the morale and productivity of our officers, enabling them to focus on their vital role in maintaining safety in Lagos.
The project will feature a variety of commercial and residential properties, including one to four-bedroom apartments, maisonettes, and townhouse units, all equipped with modern amenities.
Together with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, we will oversee the project to ensure its completion within the next two years.
The IG’s dedication to this initiative and his advocacy for the welfare of his officers is commendable, and I emphasized our joint effort to improve the living standards for police officers.
masterflowx: I read the same news when he was in Lagos for Ileya last year not even this year Ileya. Did papa ajasco went to meet Tinubu twice on his arrival to Lagos? Why are you people repeating fake news?
Actually, yes, it happened twice. Abiodun Ayoyinka (Papa Ajasco) is the leader of a dance group (the Lagos Dance Troupe) that usually goes to the airport to welcome the president.
This was December 2023. Note that what President Tinubu wore here is different.
This is 2024. President Tinubu saw Abiodun Ayoyinka and called him. Abiodun Ayoyinka was going towards the president when a bodyguard blocked him (the bodyguard did not see when President Tinubu called the actor). Tinubu's CSO then ordered the bodyguard to step aside.
Alhaji Sayyu Dantata is the great-grandchild of legendary Kano businessman, Alhaji Alhassan Dantata and he was born in 1969. He studied mechanical engineering and business administration in the United States, having attended Morris Brown College, Atlanta Georgia.
He started his career as the chief executive of Dangote Transport, the logistics division of the Dangote Group.
He realised the potential for diesel marketing when he found it difficult to procure fuel for the company’s huge fleet. The Nigerian government was the sole importer of diesel and there were chronic shortages of the product. Sayyu studied the complex allocation process and launched M.R.S Oil in 1993 with about ₦5 million start up capital. He started buying diesel from African Petroleum, Unipetrol and the Kaduna Refinery, but it took some time for the company to get a foothold in the market. At the initial stage, M.R.S even had to buy diesel from foreign firms who received allocations even though they had no offices in the country.
The company got its big break when it was hired by the NNPC in 1998 to evacuate Low Residue Stock, a by-product of the refining process. This was followed by a major order from Wale Tinubu, who gave him a big contract to supply diesel.
M.R.S had an annual turnover of ₦10 billion and shipped about 50,000 tonnes of diesel a month. The company stunned the industry when it acquired Chevron Texaco’s downstream assets for $1 billion (it was bidding against Femi Otedola’s Zennon Oil). The M.R.S group employed about 800 people.
Sayyu Dantata is very close to Aliko Dangote and Dangote backed him during his dispute with Femi Otedola, which led to some friction between Dangote and Otedola.
Alhaji Dantata served as the chairman of Chevron Oil Nigeria PLC from 03/2009–08/2012 and the chairman and CEO of MRS Nigeria PLC from 08/2012–07/2017. He has been the chairman of MRS Holdings since 2017. MRS Holdings group of companies include the likes of Corlay Global SA, Ovlas Trading SA and Ovlas Services Geneva. He is also a director of Hydro Alternative Energy, Inc.
Sayyu Dantata speaking about MRS Oil and Gas in 2012.
Alhaji Sayyu Dantata was a regular on the celebrity pages of newspapers and magazines in the early and mid-2000s due to his relationship with Linda Mesrob.
Alhaji Dantata was in the news again in 2012 when Chris Brown stayed at his house on Banana Island. Chris Brown had come to Nigeria for a concert and the organisers had booked a suite at Eko Hotel for him, but he was not happy with the suite, so the organisers put him up at Sayyu Dantata’s house and he was really impressed. He took to Instagram to post about this big house that he was in in Nigeria (see the thread here https://www.nairaland.com/1142426/owner-mansion-chris-brown-stayed).
Sayyu Dantata also grabbed the headlines on all the blogs in 2019, during the massive Apapa traffic jam, when he flew himself to his Apapa office in a helicopter. This is a video of his staff hailing him as he landed in his helicopter.
He also arrived the Kaduna Polo Club for the Georgian Cup Competition in a helicopter, but there was almost a tragedy when he was leaving the club because the crowd refused to give enough space for the helicopter to take off and some people actually hung on to the helicopter’s landing skids as it took off. See the video below.
