Summary of the first article for those who think it is too long.

1) Ballot box set on fire in Portland, Oregon. 409 ballot papers were inside the box, but only 3 were damaged (fire suppressant saved the rest). The three people whose ballots were damaged will get replacement ballots.

2) Ballot box set on fire in Vancouver, Washington. It appears that the fire suppressant did not work properly and hundreds of ballots were destroyed (officials are still trying to get the exact number).

3) There was a previous incident in Vancouver on October 8th, during which a ballot box was set on fire. Police believe that the incidents are connected.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MAN DISCOVERS STACK OF MAIL-IN BALLOTS IN STORM DRAIN

By Sid Garcia
Friday, October 18, 2024

SIERRA MADRE, Calif. -- A Southern California man says he found a stack of election ballots stuffed inside a storm drain, and he's now speaking out about the discovery.

Jay Senese was doing some landscape work at his Sierra Madre home Saturday when saw something strange in the storm drain next to his house: nearly a dozen mail-in ballots.

He said he got on his hands and knees and started scooping them out and noticed the addresses were from his Arcadia neighbors a block away.

"We're trained here to keep stuff out of the storm drain... I pull out a bunch of junk mail and Ralphs ads and these ballots were mixed in with the junk mail... Of course, they catch my attention because we're seeing on TV about all of the care being taken to prevent fraud and misuse of ballots. It seemed a strange place for ballots to be. "

He says he tried to return them to the nearby post office but they were already closed.

His guess is someone went around the neighborhood opening up the mailboxes and emptying them. What the thieves didn't want, they dumped in the storm drain.

He shared with Eyewitness News that he doesn't receive a lot of mail. He said, for him, its safer.

"I'm one of those people who's got almost everything coming in paperless. I don't get a lot of personal mail. The only thing I get these days... might be a replacement credit card or something."

If you haven't received your mail-in ballot and you believe it may be lost or even stolen, the L.A. County Registrar-Recorder's website allows you to request a replacement by filling out a form online. You can only do this once.

And according to the website, it will not change your registration status.

Mr Senese says he plans on going to the post office this afternoon to return the ballots he found.

Hundreds of ballots damaged after ballot box set on fire in Washington state: Officials

The incident is believed to be connected to two others in Washington and Oregon.

By Meredith Deliso, Chris Boccia, and Lucien Bruggeman
October 28, 2024

Ballot boxes in Oregon and Washington were set on fire with incendiary devices early Monday in what authorities believe are connected incidents, police said.

The two arson incidents, which occurred near the Oregon-Washington border, are also believed to be connected to a third ballot box incident that occurred earlier this month in Vancouver, Washington, police said.

In the first reported incident on Monday, Portland police responded to a fire at a ballot box around 3:30 a.m. local time, police said. Security at the Multnomah County Elections Division responded and extinguished the fire, officials said.

"Our officers quickly determined that there was an incendiary device that had been attached to the ballot box, and that is what ignited this fire," Portland Police Bureau spokesperson Mike Benner said at a press briefing on Monday.

The bureau's explosive disposal unit cleared the device, police said.

Fire suppressant prevented further damage and protected "virtually all the ballots," though three were damaged, the Multnomah County Elections Division said in a press release.

Elections officials said they are contacting the three impacted voters so they can receive replacement ballots.

Multnomah County Elections Director Tim Scott told ABC News that 409 ballots inside the ballot box "were undamaged" and preserved thanks to the fire suppressant.

Oregon Secretary of State LaVonne Griffin-Valade said the limited impact to ballots "shows that our systems are safe and secure."

"Make no mistake, an attack on a ballot box is an attack on our democracy and completely unacceptable," Griffin-Valade said in a statement. "Whatever the motivation behind this incident, there is no justification for any attempt to disenfranchise voters."

No other ballot boxes or official drop sites in Multnomah County were affected, the division said.

The Portland Fire Investigations Unit is investigating.

About a half hour later, around 4 a.m. local time, officers in Vancouver, Washington, responded to a report of a ballot box that was smoking and on fire, police said.

"Officers arrived and located a suspicious device next to the box," which was on fire, the Vancouver Police Department said in a statement.

The fire was extinguished, and members of the Metro Explosive Disposal Unit safely collected the device, police said.

"Hundreds" of ballots are believed to have been damaged on Monday, though an official number has not yet been determined, Clark County Auditor Greg Kimsey said at the press briefing.

Fire suppression devices are also installed in ballot drop boxes in the county, though they do not appear to have worked well, said Kimsey, who added that they're going to try to obtain better fire suppression devices.

The Clark County Auditor's Office will be working to ensure impacted voters have replacement ballots in time, officials said.

"We take the safety of our election workers seriously and will not tolerate threats or acts of violence that seek to undermine the democratic process," Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs said in a statement. "I strongly denounce any acts of terror that aim to disrupt lawful and fair elections in Washington state. Despite this incident, I have complete confidence in our county elections official's ability to keep Washington's elections safe and secure for all voters."

Monday's incident is similar to an incident that occurred on Oct. 8 in Vancouver, in which a ballot box was smoking and on fire with a "device" next to it, Vancouver interim Police Chief Troy Price said during the press briefing.

We do believe the incident here [in Portland] is connected to the two incidents in Vancouver," Benner said.

Police have identified a suspect vehicle, a possible Volvo that was captured on surveillance footage near the ballot box in Portland, Benner said.

A motive remains unclear, Portland Assistant Chief Amanda McMillan said.

"We do know that acts like this are targeted and they're intentional, and we're concerned about that intentional act trying to affect the election process," she said at the press briefing on Monday. "We're dedicated to stopping that kind of behavior, and we're working toward that today."

The FBI is also investigating the incidents "to determine who is responsible," an agency spokesperson said.

Portland Gov. Tina Kotek commended the "rapid response" from law enforcement and election officials.

"Voter intimidation or any criminal act to undermine the upcoming election is un-American & will not be tolerated," she said in a statement on social media.

Both Oregon and Washington are one of several vote-by-mail states, with ballots returned by mail or at an official drop box. Washington also has voting centers open to accept ballots.

Dangote‘s first sea cargo of petrol arrives Lagos as key refinery ramps up

Our Reporter
October 26, 2024

Nigeria’s Dangote refinery, larger than any other in Africa or Europe, has shipped its first seaborne petrol cargo as a vital fuel-producing unit continues to ramp up.

The Sabaek sailed with about 500,000 barrels of petrol from Dangote to the nearby commercial hub of Lagos in recent days, according to a port report and ship-tracking data compiled by Bloomberg.

Meanwhile, the refinery’s residue fluid catalytic cracker, a crucial unit in the production of the fuel, is continuing to ramp up output, according to a person familiar with the matter, who asked not to be named discussing private information.
Spokespeople for Dangote didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Once fully operational, the 650,000-barrel-a-day plant will transform the regional gasoline market, potentially reducing the need for imports of the fuel from Europe to West Africa. It has already shaken up crude oil flows by trimming an overhang of Nigerian supply.

This first shipment via sea comes about one month after the new refinery began using trucks to transport petrol.

A refinery’s RFCC unit helps upgrade petroleum products into more valuable fuels like gasoline.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has so far received four cargoes of crude oil from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited under the naira-for-crude sale agreement.

It was gathered that the four cargoes of crude were delivered to the refinery within the past three weeks when the government began the sale of crude to local refineries in the local currency.

Officials said that the refinery was still waiting to receive more crude oil cargoes from NNPCL, the organisation managing the country’s hydrocarbon resources.
They also confirmed that the $20bn Lekki-based plant was now set to begin the direct sale of refined Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, to domestic dealers.

A source close to the Technical Subcommittee on Domestic Sale of Crude Oil in Local Currency, who did not want to be mentioned because he was not permitted to speak with the press, confirmed to The PUNCH that “more cargoes (of crude) would be delivered to the Dangote refinery in the coming weeks.”

The official disclosed that the programme started with the Dangote refinery as the only petrol-producing facility in Nigeria at the moment.

Ghana to import petroleum products from Dangote refinery ‘to reduce prices’

The Ghana National Petroleum Authority (NPA) says it is considering buying petroleum products from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery once the facility is operating at full capacity.

According to Reuters, Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, chairman of NPA, Ghana, spoke on Monday at the OTL Africa Downstream Oil Conference in Lagos.

On September 3, Dangote refinery officially announced the commencement of refining crude oil.

However, the 650,000 barrel per day (bpd) capacity refinery began operations in January with the production of diesel and aviation fuel.

Abdul-Hamid said patronising Dangote refinery will help the country cut more expensive exports from Europe which cost the country about $400 million monthly.

“If the refinery reaches 650,000 bpd a day capacity, all that volume cannot be consumed by Nigeria alone, so instead of us importing as we do right now from Rotterdam, it will be much easier for us to import from Nigeria and I believe that will bring down our prices,” Hamid said.

He said importing from Nigeria rather than Europe would reduce the prices of other goods and services by removing freight costs.

Hamid also said African countries would agree on a common currency that should dampen demand for dollars.

The Association of Oil Marketing Companies (AOMCs) in Ghana had on September 11, projected a marginal reduction in petrol and diesel prices starting from September 16 — if the cedi remains stable against the dollar.

Owned by Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, the refinery is expected to operate at near full capacity at the end of the year.

Car TalkRe: CNG Car Cylinder Explosion In Edo Raises Concern Among Motorists by naptu2:

I can see that a significant number of Nigerians engage in the most extreme forms of self-sabotage. What is all the scaremongering for?

The Channels Television reporter also engaged in subliminal scaremongering instead of explicitly affirming through his voice tone that CNG is very safe since it flows above air and dissipates. The CNG conversions are supposed to be done at accredited centres such as NIPCO and more. I have seen HIGHLY positive video testimonials from NNPCL and others of folks who have converted to CNG-gasoline hybrid fuel systems for their cars and many have talked happily about making massive profits from their various transportation businesses in addition to less visits to the auto mechanics.

That CNG is also in use in over 75 countries from India, Russia, USA, Kenya, South Africa, etc.
This thing is very funny to me and I am waiting for the person that will deploy that scaremongering tactic on one of my threads.

1) The problem with the vehicle that caught fire in Benin was that the owner did a home made modification. They welded CNG tanks by themselves without using the approved tanks and safety measures.

2) Far more petrol vehicles have caught fire than CNG vehicles. In fact, a petrol vehicle exploded last weekend (some funny people are spreading rumours that it was a CNG vehicle, but it was actually a petrol vehicle). Does that mean that people should stop using petrol vehicles?

3) It's all about using the proper and approved safety measures. There will be a fire if you don't use proper safety measures in a petrol vehicle and there will be a fire if you don't use proper safety measures in a CNG vehicle, just as there will be a fire if proper safety measures are not used in an electric vehicle.

For every story about fire in a CNG vehicle, I can produce ten stories about fires in petrol vehicles and similar stories about fires in electric vehicles.
