Romance › Celebrating Pride In Nigeria Is An Act Of Defiance - BBC by naptu2(op): 6:24pm On Jun 27, 2024 |
BBC Africa. Celebrating #Pride in #Nigeria is an act of defiance. In a country where same-sex relationships or public displays of affection are illegal and many #LGBTQ+ Nigerians use the word ‘queer’, as a safer term to encompass their identities, attending any #Queer event is risky.
That didn’t stop over 500 guests from attending the Fola Francis Ball in Lagos. Even the venue had to be kept secret until a few hours before. Party organisers Ayo Lawson and Uyaiedu Ikpe-Etim were inspired by a similar event they had been to. “We thought we were very queer and very out there, but going to experience a ball really changed our perspective of what it is to be queer and what queer joy really is,” says Lawson. This year the ball was named in honour of a transgender woman called Fola Francis, who before her death last year had been at the heart of the burgeoning underground ballroom scene. For many, the Fola Francis ball was an opportunity to pay their respects. “I want to celebrate Fola,” said one of the platform-heeled revellers. For another of the trans women attending for the first time, it was a “dream come true”. Others came to compete in the LGBTQ+ ballroom culture competition with categories including butch queen realness, femme queen realness, body, face, voguing and best dressed. Judges included Ashley Okoli and writer-designer Ozzy Etomi, both mainstream figures in Nigeria. For the organisers, the ball is a space for self-expression and to celebrate the beauty of diversity, even in the face of fear. And that fear is never far away. https://www.instagram.com/p/C8uSdkSt_sm/?igsh=bXF1ZnFjejRhcjJ0

SOUTHERN GOVERNORS’ FORUM COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE MEETING OF THE GOVERNORS OF SOUTHERN NIGERIA AT THE OGUN STATE PRESIDENTIAL LODGE, G.R.A, IBARA, ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE ON MONDAY, 24TH JUNE 2024
At the end of the Southern Governors Forum meeting held on Monday, 24th June 2024, the following resolutions were made by the Governors:
The Forum paid respects to the immediate past Chairman, late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, and extended their courtesies to his family while appreciating the past Chairman for the solid foundation he laid by putting the forum in good stead.
1.The forum thanked all member Governors for their support and commitment to the "Asaba declaration" which was a resolve to ensure that Southern Nigeria produced the Presidential Candidate. The forum also thanked their counterparts in the North under the auspices of the Northern Governors’ Forum for their unwavering support for the resolution.
2. The Forum commended the laudable economic recovery reforms and policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR and the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda (RHA). The Forum unanimously reaffirmed their support for him in his unwavering resolve to reposition the country and build a great future for all of us.
3. The Southern Governors applauded the President for conceptualizing and commencing the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project, which cuts across eight states. The forum noted that this laudable project will create employment in the construction industry ecosystem, boost productivity by drastically reducing travel time, promote tourism, and open up and integrate all the Southern States to more investment opportunities.
4. The Southern Governors advocated that the Federal government should rehabilitate, repair, and reconstruct Trunk A roads and transfer roads to states that have expressed interest in taking them over.
5. The Forum will commission a regional multimodal transport master plan that prioritizes connectivity by rail, road, air, and water to enhance regional connectivity and facilitate the interstate and intra-region ease of doing business.
6. Being the economic and industrial hub of the country, the Forum highlighted the need to address the inadequate power supply in the region. To achieve 90,000 MW of electricity to adequately serve the estimated 90 million people in the Southern Region (using the rule of thumb of 1,000 MW per 1 million population), member states were encouraged to take advantage of the recent constitutional amendment that now allows states to regulate, generate, transmit and distribute electricity whilst also considering renewable sources of energy. The forum also noted the pressing need for an alternative power infrastructure grid to reduce the impact of grid collapse in the region.
7. The Forum recognized the necessity of total PMS (petrol) deregulation and pledged support to the Energy Transition program of Mr. President. The Forum urged member states to implement a quick transition to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Electric Vehicles (EVs) as a condition precedent to full deregulation to cushion effects on citizens.
8. Members of the Forum commended Mr. President on the different food palliative support to the states by way of rice and grains. Governors were also commended for complementing Mr. President in their various states through several initiatives ranging from food palliatives to transport allowances. The forum resolved to be more aggressive and intentional about food security. All states were enjoined to intensify their agricultural resurgence/revolution initiatives based on the cash and food crops best suited for each region to achieve food sufficiency, self-reliance, and employment generation. States are encouraged to set up special agro-processing zones to extract the most value from the agro-value chain.
9. The Forum discussed the minimum wage issues demanded by labour and unanimously agreed that the minimum wage should be reflective of the cost of living and that each state should be allowed to negotiate its minimum wage. This led to the forum’s discussion on fiscal federalism and devolution of powers.
10. Southern Governors resolved to continue to advocate for the creation of state police against the success of community-based regional security outfits that have significantly helped intelligence gathering. It is believed that this will enable Governors to be Chief Security Officers indeed.
11. The Forum, still on fiscal federalism, discussed the issue of solid mineral exploration and exploitation which today remains on the exclusive list in the constitution. Member Governors expressed concern over current practices where minerals licenses are issued, and exploitations are undertaken without recourse to state governments. These continue to be carried out often attracting criminal activities and attendant negative environmental impact, ecological degradation with no remediation commitments, and no revenue accruing to both States and the Federal Government.
12. The Forum expressed concern over the controversy of the tenure of Local Government Chairmen in Rivers State and took a common stand in support of the position of the law and constitution.
13. The Forum members resolved to remain united and very committed to oneness of purpose noting that the physical boundaries that divide us do not compare to the strong bonds of enterprise, resilience, and culture that we share and unites us. Member States resolved to be deliberate about intra-region trade, partnerships, and investment facilitation and promotion which was agreed will require a structured and coordinated collaborative approach.
14. The Southern States Development Agenda (SSDA) will be set up and will comprise a team whose primary responsibility is to outline a holistic plan to foster trade and investment, sustainable growth and development, economic prosperity, social harmony, and food security for the region. They will work hand in glove with individual states' Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agencies, the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), and other multilateral agencies.
15. The Forum unanimously chose His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun CON, to provide the needed leadership and appointed His Excellency, Professor Charles Soludo CFR as Vice Chairman.
16. Members expressed their support for the newly appointed Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Forum.
17. The Forum concluded that its meetings should be held quarterly and rotated among member states.

Ogun State Government - OGSG @OGSG_Official Minimum Wage: Let's Pay According To Our Ability - Southern Governors
Governors from the southern part of Nigeria under the aegis of the Southern Governors' Forum, have called for the consideration of the cost of living and ability of each state to pay the new minimum wage just as they advocated that each State be allowed to negotiate the new wage with the labour unions.
This was contained in a Communique issued at the end of their meeting held on Monday, June 25, 2024, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
In their 16 points Communique, the Forum called for strengthening of fiscal federalism and devolution of powers and expressed concern over current practices where mineral licenses are issued and explorations undertaken without recourse to State governments.
It noted that issuing mineral licenses without carrying the states along have resulted in criminal activities, attendant negative environmental impact, ecological degradation, and with no remediation commitment or revenue accruing to the States or the Federal Government.
The governors maintained that being the economic and industrial region of the country, there was need to address the inadequate power supply in the region by taking advantage of the recent constitutional amendment that now allows States to regulate, generate, transmit and distribute electricity whilst also considering optional sources like renewables. The southern governors said they have resolved to aggressively embark on energy transition plan from fossil fuels (petrol and diesel) to cleaner energy and specifically CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) and ultimately EV’s (Electric Vehicles) to help reduce the cost of transportation, which would lower the cost of food, goods and services of the citizens and residents.
The meeting also called on the Federal Government to rehabilitate, repair and reconstruct Trunk A roads and transfer some roads to States that have expressed interest in taking them over, applauding President Tinubu for conceptualizing and commencing the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, which cuts across eight states of the region. The Communique hinted that the governors have resolved to commission a regional multimodal transport master plan that would prioritise connectivity of rail, road, air and water transportation, to facilitate interstate, intra-regional movement of persons, goods and services and thereby enhancing the ease of doing business.
It further stated that Southern States Development Agenda (SSDA), would comprise of a team whose primary responsibility is to outline a holistic plan to foster trade and investment, sustainable growth and development, economic prosperity, social harmony and food security for the region would be set up.
The Development Agenda, the governors added would work hand in glove with individual State Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agencies, the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) and other relevant MDA’s and multilateral agencies as necessary.
On issue of state police, the Governors resolved to continue to advocate for the creation of State police against the backdrop of the success of the regional community based security outfits, which have been effective in intelligence gathering. The governors, the communique further stated, resolved to remain united and committed to oneness of purpose, noting that the physical boundaries that divide the people of the south could not be compare to the strong bonds of enterprise, resilience and culture that they share just as they have resolved to be deliberate and intentional about intra region trade, partnerships and investment facilitation and promotion which was agreed would require a structured and coordinated collaborative approach.
The members of the Forum commended Mr President Tinubu for the food palliative support to States and the laudable economic recovery reforms and policies through the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda pledging to support him in his unwavering resolve to reposition the country and build a greater future for all.
It would be recalled that at the end of the meeting, Prince Dapo Abiodun was chosen to provide the needed leadership as Chairman of the Forum, while Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra State waa appointed as the Vice Chairman.
The communique concluded that quarterly meetings of the Forum would be held and rotated among member states.
The Communique reads:
At the conclusion of the Southern Governors Forum meeting held on Monday, June 24, 2024, and having paid respects to our immediate past Chairman, HE, the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu; with condolences extended to his family, and appreciating the past Chairman for the solid foundation he laid by putting the forum in good stead; we the Governors resolved as follows:
1. Thanked and appreciated all member Governors for their support and commitment to the “Asaba declaration” of 2021, which was a resolve to ensure that Southern Nigeria produced the 2023 Presidential Candidate; we also thanked the Northern Governors’ Forum for their unwavering support for the resolution.

I have been busy and have no time to go through the thread, but let me help you guys.
1) Search for this book and read what Ojukwu wrote about the coup. I had the book in the 1990s and early 2000s, but someone misplaced it.
Because I Am Involved by Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu (1989), published by Spectrum Books.
Ojukwu explained it very well that Ifeajuna was the leader of the coup.
2) Also search for this book.
Why We Struck by Adewale Ademoyega (1981), published by Evans Brothers.
Major Adewale Ademoyega was one of the coup plotters (he was the person that took over P&T and the NBC on the night of the coup. He fled to Kaduna when the coup failed and Nzeogwu told him why he made that broadcast.
(The only reason that people think that Nzeogwu was the mastermind of the coup was because it was his broadcast that they heard.
Adewale Ademoyega took over the radio station in Lagos and posted soldiers there. They were to wait for Ifeajuna to come and make his broadcast. Unfortunately for them, Ironsi recovered and began countering their orders. Troops refused to let Ademoyega into the radio station when he eventually returned there.
Nzeogwu waited for Ifeajuna's broadcast from Lagos, but when there was none, he guessed that the coup had failed in Lagos and therefore he made his own broadcast from Kaduna.
Nzeogwu was brought into the coup because of his ability to turn out troops in Kaduna. It was Nzeogwu that brought Ademoyega into the coup).
I have this book right here, but I am too busy to quote it for you. Go and buy it.
3) Read the Police Special Branch report about the coup (it is very detailed).
Don't rely on Wikipedia (anybody can write anything there.

Fullfledged: I just decided to comment on this matter. See ehn, the MVP of any competition is usually selected from the winning team all over the world. That's why this one is somehow. Can you remind me of a football tournament or league where the MVP was not selected from the winning team? Mtschew. Asisat Oshoala won the golden ball (player of the tournament) at the 2014 FIFA Under 20 Women's World Cup. Did Nigeria win the tournament?? There are so many.

The former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has initiated legal proceedings against the Kaduna State House of Assembly following their claims that his administration, which lasted eight years, allegedly misappropriated ₦432 billion, leading to significant financial liabilities for the state.
On Wednesday, El-Rufai brought a legal action for the protection of his fundamental rights to the Federal High Court in Kaduna, against the state House of Assembly.
The legal case, initiated by former governor's attorney Abdulhakeem Mustapha, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, disputed the findings of the Kaduna Assembly Committee that accused El-Rufai of corruption allegations.

Malam Nasir @elrufai was at the Federal High Court, Kaduna, today to sign the affidavit supporting his fundamental rights enforcement case against the Kaduna State House of Assembly and the Kaduna State Government.
His lawyer, AU Mustapha SAN, said that El-Rufai approached the court as a Nigerian citizen who is entitled to be given a fair hearing before his rights can be determined by a quasi-judicial or investigative body or courts in line with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights. El-Rufai also asked the court to declare that by the provisions of Section 36 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, the Report of the Ad-Hoc Committee on Investigation of Loans, Financial Transactions, Contractual Liabilities and Other Related Matters of the Government of Kaduna State from 29 May 2015 to 29 May 2023, as ratified by the Kaduna State House of Assembly, is unconstitutional and therefore null and void for violating his right to fair hearing as guaranteed under the Constitution.

Awards are given to encourage others and grow the league. Two goals and two assists for a whole season don't sound like it at all. You are being childish. Two goals and two assists for a whole season for a central defender is not an issue. |

When it comes to the the 1966 Nigerian coup d'état and anything negative... He's and IgboMan from Anioma Delta state.
When it comes to making Anioma a state in South East or saying Anioma people are Igbo people... Then Igbo people are unity beggars forcing Anioma to be Igbo 🤣🤣
In summary anything negative = Igbo Anything positive = Not Igbo.
I hearby declare the the 1966 Nigerian coup d'état as an Anioma mastermined coup, henceforth leave Igbo people out of it! Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu was not the mastermind of the 1966 coup. The mastermind was Emmanuel Ifeajuna. Nzeogwu only made his broadcast from Kaduna because Ifeajuna failed to make his broadcast from Lagos. Nzeogwu was waiting for word from Lagos, but when there was no word he guessed that the coup had failed in Lagos, so he made his broadcast. |
