Ishilove: It is only It Takes Two that made an impression on me. The other ones sounded like background noise to me 🤷
Ironfaceman
How old were you at the time.
Get On The Dancefloor was probably an even bigger hit in Nigeria than It Takes Two. No party was complete without it. It was on TV shows, on the radio, etc.
Ishilove: Where is Heavy D, by the way? Haven't thought of him in years
Ironfaceman: Heavy d of blessed memories passed on in the 90s. Very sad
Heavy D died in 2011 (he acted in Bones and other TV series in the 2000s).
I remember when I heard the news, so I remember what killed him.
I remember that people had been warned that they should try to exercise if they were on long distance flights. The reason is that blood clots could develop if you sit down for too long.
If I remember correctly, he attended an event in Europe and a blood clot developed. It broke free and restricted blood flow causing a heart attack.
Heavy D collapsed and died outside his house not long after returning from a trip to Europe.
Ishilove: I am not a fan of 80's rap. Even back then it sounded really lame to my young ears. The later rappers like Coolio, Snoop, Bone, Thugs et al impressed me more...or maybe my taste just evolved.

Atiku, Amaechi, Hayatudeen Vote In ADC Primaries (Videos)
I joined other prospective voters of the African Democratic Congress in our party's presidential primaries in casting my vote at the Ajiya Ward Polling Unit in Jimeta Yola, Adamawa State. This is democracy at work. The election taking place simultaneously in 8,809 Wards in Nigeria is a major step in our quest to recover our beloved country and set it on the path of prosperity. - AA

I'm going to post 2 videos because the album version of this song is different from the video version. Much of the music video is a capella (or without the amazing bassline) and I really want you to hear the instruments, so I am going to post both versions.
Man! This was a massive hit.
This was a huge party anthem. I knew a girl that couldn't stop dancing whenever this song was played.
This is one of those songs that I like the cover version as much as the original (The Jacksons - Shake Your Body Down To The Ground).
You are now listening to the sounds of MC Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock.
Puerto-rican, black, white, Chinese Come on, let's rock in peace Get on the floor, get loose Rock with the man with juice
OK, just play The record that I say Get crazy Stump your feet Move to the funky beat I'm Rob And EZ With the help of the man behind me This part I like When the crowd gets hyped Come on Here we go As I rock the show Get on the dance floor
I'm like a star in the sky I'm shining Like a scientist I'm finding A new chemical To get rid of you It's not medicine, magic or voodoo Cause I'm rhyming, designing, timing How long it's gonna take to be climbing To the top Make sure that I won't drop 'Cause I intend to rock the spot Get on the dance floor
You need to clearly hear the amazing beats and bassline on this track, so the first video contains a clear audio track, while the second video contains the original video (with VHS quality sound).
Rap star Rob Base, known for hip-hop classic It Takes Two, dies aged 59
Rap artist Rob Base, best known for the 1980s hip-hop classic It Takes Two, has died after a bout of cancer aged 59.
The musician, whose real name was Robert Ginyard, created the hit song with his musical partner DJ E-Z Rock, and it is credited with helping to take hip-hop to mainstream success in dance clubs and the pop charts.
Base died "surrounded by family after a private battle with cancer" on Friday, just days after his 59th birthday, according to a post on his official Instagram account.
"Thank you for the music, the memories, and the moments that became the soundtrack to our lives," it said.
"Rob's music, energy, and legacy helped shape a generation and brought joy to millions around the world.
"Beyond the stage, he was a loving father, family man, friend, and creative force whose impact will never be forgotten."
A Harlem native, Base was part of a hip-hop duo with DJ E-Z Rock, a musical force that sprung to fame in 1988 with the release of It Takes Two.
The song quickly climbed to number three on the Billboard Hot Dance/Club Songs chart and was later certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
The track has been sampled by Snoop Dogg and the Black Eyed Peas, and appeared in films like the 2009 hit romantic comedy The Proposal, starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. It was also featured in the iconic video game series Grand Theft Auto in its San Andreas release in 2004.
Tributes began pouring in for Base on Friday evening.
"He WAS internationally known and he DID rock the microphone," comedian Dane Cook wrote on X.
"One of my favorite songs ever. Rob Base filled the airwaves with hit music. RIP man."
NFL Hall-of-Fame football star Deion Sanders wrote: "Prayers to Rob Base entire family and loved ones. He was a legend to me."
DJ E-Z Rock - whose real name was Rodney Bryce - died in April 2014 from diabetes related complications, aged 56.
He and Base became friends in the fourth grade, according to Rolling Stone.
They released their first single, DJ Interview, in 1986, before dropping their smash hit It Takes Two.
Base told Rolling Stone in a 2014 interview the song's creation was spontaneous and that he was shocked by its success.
"With It Takes Two, we were at a friend's house and we were just going through a bunch of records," he said.
"We had to go to the studio that night and we didn't have anything prepared, but we found and liked the Lyn Collins sample that night and went to the studio," Base continued.
"We didn't think that it would cross over and be as big as it became."
Ofunaofu: you don’t even realize you’re posting nonsense
Are you not aware that fake news trends
You see why I don't engage some people. They will abandon common sense just to post rubbish.
Someone said that a faction of the ADC has declared Dumebi Kachikwu as their presidential candidate. He posted a screenshot of an NTA tweet as evidence.
This one said that it's just NTA propaganda.
I posted a tweet that contains videos from AIT and Arise News, showing Dumebi Kachikwu accepting the nomination, just look at what this one posted!
Why did I even waste my time trying to engage with him?
The truth that many people do not want to hear is that you don't need a seaport in the east.
A lot of the problems of Nigeria have already been solved by our elders, but we've forgotten about them because of politics.
The problem with river ports in the east is the need to constantly dredge them in order to remove silt. This is very expense.
The sensible solution is to revive the dry port in Aba and link it to the Bonny Port by standard rail.
AlphaTaikun: Indeed, YOU have made very valid points there @Naptu. In the grand scheme of things, the Western Ports of Ibeju-Lekki, Badagry and Olokola deep sea ports would LARGELY benefit more here since they are closer to Lome, Cotonou, and Ghana. It's a fact that a lot of the cargos and containers coming into Nigeria are LARGELY meant for industrial hubs in the West of Nigeria (Lagos, Ogun, Ibadan industrial hubs) and the North with theire huge populations. There is also the famous LAKAJI trade hub which receives to-and-fro the BIGGEST trade cargos between Lagos/Kano/Jibia hence the name LAKAJI.
For those traders in the South East of Nigeria who like to complain about being underserved despite having a river port in Onitsha, they already have the 2 ports in Rivers State and with Ibom, Bakassi and Bonny deep seaports, they already have indirect access to the sea.
The main issue (and the reason for the construction of all these ports) is that a large amount of the goods that are imported into Nigeria actually go through Cotonou and Lome ports. This means that Nigeria is losing out on revenue that should have come to the country if the goods were imported directly through Nigerian ports.
The reasons why goods come in through Lome and Cotonou include:
⚫️ Their ports are deeper.
⚫️ Apapa Port is congested
⚫️ Cheaper port charges
Etc.
These new ports are being built to take traffic from Lome and Cotonou.
AlphaTaikun: Olokola and Badagry deep seaports are quite okay but would have some competition from the Lekki deep sea port which is a PPP project initiated by the then Governor 'Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Tolarams Group of Singapore back in the 2000s with FG equity as well which is standard practice for all PPP deep sea port projects.
The deep sea ports in the Eastern division are way too much and overextended.
Ibom, Bakassi and Bonny would be competing for ships to berth at their various ports thereby thinning out the market space. However, Nigeria's population is GROWING so, the increased population in years to come would mitigate the negatives of the overcompetition from the Eastern ports of Ibom, Bakassi and Bonny. Since the deep sea ports are PPPs, they can go ahead with the constructions and we'll see how things pan out.
