The striking university lecturers had yesterday expressed optimism that the intervention by the House of Representatives on its ongoing face-off with the Federal Government would yield desired results.

The President of ASUU, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, who spoke when the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, briefed the union in Abuja after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari said, “For the first time, we have seen light at the end of the tunnel.”

Given the unfolding political recalibration in Southeast, particularly Enugu State, there was little doubt that Senator Chimaroke Nnamani accepted the inclusion of his name on the membership of All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) with his full chest.

Although the ranking Senator and former governor eulogised the former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, when a derogatory song, jests and expletives were hauled at the APC presidential candidate, not many expected that both elite members of the class ’99 governors had revived their political collaboration.

But a disappointed Tambuwal said, “Last month, I stopped the payment of their salaries because I have been magnanimous enough by paying them more than five month salary without work.

“I asked them to resume work or forfeit their salaries because they have no reason whatsoever to continue with the strike.

“The issues raised by ASUU branches in federal universities are not the same with what obtains in the state university. If they have other issues they should come forward with them, otherwise we will not pay them their salaries until they go back to the classroom,” he said.

He admonished the lecturers to resume work if indeed they have the interest of the state and its students at heart.
EducationObaseki Launches Edobest 2.0 To Address Challenges In Secondary Education by nariamoney(op): 2:55pm On Sep 21, 2022
After a successful implementation of Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation, (EdoBEST 1.0), the state government has launched EdoBEST 2.0 to address issues in senior secondary and technical education.

The occasion also saw the launch, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Nigerian learning passport.

Governor Godwin Obaseki, at the event, said without acquiring the required knowledge to navigate today’s world, achieving desired goals might be difficult.

For youths to be globally competitive and relevant in the 21st century, the governor said, human capacity is imperative.

“Human capacity is what tomorrow’s world needs, and if we don’t give our children what they need, our country won’t be able to compete. The key to any education reform is the teacher. That is why we have trained and retrained our teachers. Teachers are the ones governing schools and once you get the governance of the school right with a competent head teacher, he will get the other teachers to work and our children will be okay.

“We have moved beyond our children just going to school, the focus now is on quality and relevance of what they are being taught. For us, education has not been an elitist product and we must continue so that our children would have access to school and quality education,” he said.

EducationGumi Advises Nigerians To Avoid Electing Inexperienced, Unpatriotic Bigot As Pre by nariamoney(op): 10:33am On Sep 13, 2022
After assessing the chances of presidential candidates in the forthcoming 2023 general elections, a renowned Northern Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has warned Nigerians against electing an inexperienced and unpatriotic politician as president.

Weighing the chances of candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, and Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, Gumi insisted that Nigeria does not need a novice as president, but an experienced politician to lead Nigeria.

Gumi, however, advised that Nigerians should do away with ethno-religious politics in this 21st century, and come together as one united people for the progress of the country.

While answering questions from journalists in his Kaduna residence on the coming general elections and state of the nation, Gumi noted, when asked about Atiku that had contested for the presidency several times, that there is nothing wrong for politicians to contest election several times until they achieve victory.

On Tinubu’s claim that it is his turn to be president, Gumi said: “It is not proper for him to say it is his turn. No politician should say it is his turn; if people like you, they will vote for you. He is a good administrator; he can do it. The Muslim-Muslim ticket is unnecessary.

“We all know that these politicians are looking for votes. FOR MORE
