Nigeria needs political leaders who are thinking beyond the ballot box and preparing for the work of rebuilding the nation. The idea of a broad-based Government of National Unity brings the focus to inclusion, competence, stability and a shared national purpose. Hashim’s position goes beyond changing the government; it is about bringing capable Nigerians together, restoring confidence in our institutions and tackling the country’s security and economic challenges collectively.

Dr. Hashim is right to draw that line. Being in opposition doesn't mean everyone shares the same ideology or economic vision. 2027 shouldn't just be about swapping one government for another. Nigerians deserve to know who actually offers a different vision for the economy, for the poor, and for the country's future. Dr. Hashim is making that distinction clear: same opposition camp, different political philosophy.

Nigeria's security crisis has moved past business as usual. This is the kind of economic conversation Nigeria needs. ₦605 as a starting point, with a clear path towards ₦200–₦300 through local refining, lower production costs and a stronger naira. The question is no longer just what petrol costs internationally, but what it should realistically cost Nigerians.

It is high time Nigerians begin to hold politicians accountable for the ideas they once promoted. You cannot campaign for subsidy removal, watch Nigerians suffer the consequences, and then suddenly change your position without explaining why. Changing your mind is not the problem. Pretending your past position never existed is. Nigeria genuinely needs accountable leadership.
