ABUSE OF POLICE POWER: NICON TRUSTEES LTD ACCUSED OF LAND-GRABBING AT ALMA BEACH ESTATE, IKATE, LAGOS Following the repeated invasion, occupation, intimidation and destruction of properties at Alma Beach Estate, Ikate, Lagos by armed policemen and thugs recruited by Nicon Trustees Limited, the allottees of the highbrow estate has petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari and the Inspector General of Police in what they described as “gross abuse of police power”. Speaking through their legal counsel, Chief N.C. Okwarauba via 2 pages Open Letter published in Vanguard Newspaper of Monday October 21, 2019 (pages 36 & 37), the allottees accused Nicon Trustees of flagrantly disobeying the interim order by Justice S. Hassan of the Federal High Court dated July 2, 2019 with reference FHC/L/CL/1046/2019 which barred Nicon, Abah Ona and Others from using the instrumentality of the Nigerian Police Force to rely on Justice Obiozor’s Order of 26 October 2017 in further invading or entering the property at Alma Beach Estate. Counsel to Alma Beach is accusing Nicon and its agents of fraudulently obtaining the criminal assistance of the PSO to the Inspector General of Police and other top ranking police officers to engage in illegality and abuse of power to intimidate and attempt to grab plots of land forcefully from innocent landowners in the estate. While calling on the IGP to call his men to order and immediately order their evacuation from the property, Okwarauba urged the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to investigate the attempts by Nicon agents to infiltrate the Lagos state Surveyor General’s office, Mr Sangowanwa, to swap original documents with their cloned copies in connivance with their insider agents at Alausa.
