RIP Girl

A Fresh Graduate of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Calabar campus, Confidence Ogar Enya, has died in an auto crash two weeks after her final exam.

Confidence, who is in her 20s, graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering on September 28, 2023.

The Ikom indigene was said to have headed back to Calabar from her hometown when her vehicle had an accident along the Calabar-Ikom highway by Northwest fuel station Odukpani Local Government Area; a stone throw from Scanobo Junction on Monday, October 16, 2023 at about 7 pm.

She had taken to Facebook on September 28, to celebrate after her graduation.

“God did it… Thank you, Jesus, it wasn’t easy. #B.Eng Civil Engineering,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, friends, colleagues, classmates, and others have taken to social media to pour their hearts out over the shocking tragedy.

A friend, Rhoda Edoki wrote: “This one hit me R.I.P beautiful confidence,"

Janet Nkwa wrote: “What a cruel world. After all the suffering I can't believe aunty confidence as I normally call u, u r no more. I can't hold back my tears seeing this. Why those death have to take u now after graduation it's not fair. Confidence Ogar Enya. Rest in peace”

A Member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) identified as Grace Chalya Silas, was brutally murdered by some yet to be identified assailants suspected to be armed robbers in Kaduna State.

Details of the Incident are still sketchy at the time of filing this Report but it was gathered that the University of Jos graduate was killed and robbed while jogging on Wednesday morning, October 18, 2023.

Meanwhile, friends and former course mates have taken to Facebook to mourn her.

“No na. What is really happening to Jossite and Special Education department! We haven't finished mourning Kekefas Emmanuel and now it's Chalya, brutally killed in Kaduna during her morning jogging while serving her father land. May your killer's know no peace chalya. This is too much to bear,” one Comfort Elisha wrote.

Another friend wrote: "What is life all about? Struggle and just be killed by anyone while u go for morning jugging? Or u sleep and don't wake up? What is life? What is life? What is life? Chalya, u left a big wound, that will take a while to heal. The people behind your death shall no know peace. It's hard to say goodbye. But rest well with the Lord".

Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority on Monday recovered a girl, Kemisola Christy, found wandering around Jibowu, under the Bridge and handed her over to the police.

The Agency’s Public Relations Officer, Adebayo Taofiq, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists.

According to the statement, Christy ran away from home because her guardian, who resides at 72 Glover Street in Ebute Metta, was maltreating her.

It quoted the girl as saying that the guardian threatened to cut off her hands after she was caught stealing N100 from her purse.

The statement partly read, “The Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr Adebayo Taofiq confirmed that the young girl was picked while sitting lonely under the bridge at Jibowu around 7.20am.

“During interrogation, the young girl who gave her name as Kemisola Christy revealed that she ran away from home due to maltreatment from her guardian who lives at 72, Glover Street, Ebute Metta.

“Christy revealed further that she was afraid and ran away from home after her guardian threatened to cut off her hands when she was caught her stealing N100 out of money she kept inside the purse.

“She was however handed over to policemen attached to the Alakara Police Station for further investigation.”

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a credit officer of a microfinance bank, Esther Hamidu, after allegedly fleeing with customers’ contributions totalling N1.97m.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Hamidu absconded with the daily contribution of the bank’s customers which spanned between March and December 2023.

Our correspondent learnt that a branch manager of the bank in Abeokuta, the state capital, who discovered that the contribution had not been remitted, reported the matter to the police.

After several failed attempts to make the suspect remit the contribution, Hamidu was said to have disappeared into thin air despite police efforts to arrest her.

However, a source in the state police command who did not want to be mentioned in print said the suspect had been apprehended.

While confirming her arrest to PUNCH Metro on Saturday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said the suspect was arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, on Friday.

“Yes, she has been arrested. She has been transferred from Ibadan, where she was arrested, to Ogun State. She has confessed to the crime. She could not explain what she did with the money,” Odutola told PUNCH Metro on Sunday.
