CareerStatoil Hywind Installation Idea Submission Global Opportunity by Ndubestexplorer(op): 10:54am On Nov 11, 2014
Do you have a proposal on how to improve the way we install Hywind? Are you working on novel technologies that could optimise the Hywind installation concept? Do you want to play a distinctive role in shaping the future of offshore wind?

Now, we are working on establishing a pilot park in Scotland with five 6 MW turbines and making the installation of Hywind even easier - to enable more markets to reap the benefit of floating offshore wind.

Through the Hywind installation challenge, we are looking inside and outside the energy sector for institutions and companies, large and small, with expertise, intellectual property or experience - that can contribute to make Hywind available in more markets around the world.

What is HYWIND®?
Hywind is a floating wind turbine concept which includes a steel cylinder filled with a ballast of water and rocks. It extends 80-100 metres beneath the sea surface and is attached to the seabed by a three-point mooring spread.

It is constructed to support a wind turbine generator and withstand high winds and waves while producing electricity effectively. Its simple structure makes Hywind relatively light weight and very robust compared to other solutions.

BusinessNigeria To Support EU Long Term Gas Supply Security by Ndubestexplorer(op): 12:55pm On Sep 19, 2014
The Federal Government has stated its resolve to support the long term gas supply security for the European Union countries as part of measures to expand the nation’s gas market across veritable frontiers.

<img src="http://nnpcgroup.com/Portals/0/dz.JPG" alt="Nigeria to Support EU Long Term Gas Supply Security"/>

Speaking after discussions with Günther Oettinger, the EU Energy Commissioner, on the margins of the 11th EU-OPEC Energy Dialogue Ministerial Meeting in Brussels, Belgium, the Minister of Petroleum Resources and Alternate President of the OPEC Conference, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, said the country is prime to explore its gas potentials to the fullest. .

The discussions focused on the role Nigeria can play in supporting the EU’s energy sector priorities, and particularly the long-term security and diversification of gas supplies. Mrs Alison-Madueke highlighted that gas production has increased to over 8 billion cubic feet per day, and Nigeria is the eighth largest gas producer in the world, and sixth largest gas supplier to Europe.

Mrs Alison-Madueke emphasised that Nigeria has over 180 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of discovered reserves and up to 600 tcf of undiscovered gas reserves, noting that significant investment is planned to support expansion of the sector in the coming years. While increasing domestic power generation is a priority for the government, export capacity will also rapidly grow, particularly as new LNG projects are completed, She noted.

Mr Oettinger said that he recognise the long-term potential of Nigeria’s energy sector and would welcome further discussions to explore ways for greater collaboration between the EU and Nigeria.
Speaking further, Mrs. Alison-Madueke observed: It was an extremely productive meeting with Mr. Oettinger, and I look forward to continuing to work with him to build an even stronger relationship between Nigeria and the EU.”

Earlier , Mrs Alison-Madueke had given a keynote address at the Ministerial Meeting, in her role as Alternate President of the OPEC Conference, during which she highlighted the strength of the trade and energy relations between OPEC and the EU countries. She noted that OPEC countries supply the EU with over thirty per cent of annual oil consumption and nearly twenty per cent of annual gas demand.

She highlighted the role of OPEC in ensuring stability, transparency and predictability in the international oil markets, which is essential as the global economies recover and strengthen. Mrs. Alison-Madueke stated that in the long term, OPEC member countries will continue to play an essential role, and it is anticipated that they will provide as much as 11 million barrels per day (Mbpd) out of the anticipated 18 Mbpd of additional oil required to meet the expected worldwide demand growth by 2035.

In order to maintain growth and investment, the Petroleum Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining reforms in emerging economies. She noted that one such reform in Nigeria is the Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB, currently before Nigeria’s National Assembly, which will change the face of the country’s petroleum operations and ensure they remain in line with international standards and best practices.

She noted that reform in the energy sector will support the longer-term economic priorities of Africa’s largest economy, with significant investment planned in infrastructure, power generation, industry and agriculture, as well as in health and education services. The approach is similar to what obtains in other OPEC member countries, which are actively pursuing economic diversification strategies. In turn, the EU is playing a vital role in supporting the development of renewable energy technology to support the long-term diversification of primary energy sources.

BusinessThe World’s 100 Most Sustainable Companies, 2014 by Ndubestexplorer(op): 1:44pm On Sep 15, 2014
This is good news, but the majority of companies still have a ways to go when it comes to really managing their companies for the long-term including staying on top of their key sustainability value drivers. This is driven largely by the short-term demands of investors. The next wave of progress could come from long-term oriented investors taking strategic stakes in long-term oriented companies to put in place the incentives that create the most long-term value for everyone.

Corporate Knights has ranked Statoil number four, and the number-one energy company, on the Global 100 list of the world’s most sustainable corporations. The announcement was made at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland last week.
Statoil Ranked as World’s Most Sustainable Energy Company

According to Corporate Knights, the aim of the Global 100 is to "reinforce, raise awareness and showcase, annually, world leaders in corporate sustainability, including those that have been able to balance environmental performance, social performance and economic performance while delivering superior returns to investors."

The oil and gas industry is booming and there is a huge demand for workers. Oil and gas employees received the highest pay raises last year. According to PayScale, a firm that tracks salaries, their hourly wages increased by more than 11 percent from April in 2013 to the same month this year. By contrast, the average wage hike across the economy was about 2 percent, which was just enough to keep up with inflation.

Oil and gas industry experts say not only are there plenty of newly created jobs but also thousands of positions will be vacated soon by retiring workers. The American Petroleum Institute warns of a “great crew change,” opening thousands of jobs to workers with the right skills.

During the past decade, the United States has made tremendous strides in producing more domestic energy. Advances in technology, including hydraulic fracturing and directional drilling, have enabled the development of America’s shale formations, greatly increasing the nation’s energy bounty.
The results have been nothing short of spectacular. The United States is now the world’s largest natural gas producer, and by next year the United States is expected to exceed the nation’s oil production record set in 1972.

Furthermore, much of the new energy development has occurred on private land as landowners have signed contracts allowing drilling companies to spud wells on their property. A survey conducted among royalty owners—landowners who have leased their property for energy development—indicates they have been pleased with the outcome. More than 90 percent who responded to the survey say they would lease their land again, if given the opportunity.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration reports that more than 162,000 new U.S. jobs were created from 2007 through 2012. IHS Global Insight says another 1.3 million jobs are expected to be created by 2030.

Jobs in the upstream portion of the oil and gas industry pay more than twice the average national wage, and opportunities abound for college students who are considering declaring a major in engineering. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that petroleum engineers receive a median annual salary of more than $132,000, which is more than many top executives earn and far higher than the U.S. median household income of $51,017 reported in 2012.

Most college students, however, tend to select majors for which they are ill-suited or ill-equipped. According to a study by Georgetown University’s Center on Education and the Workforce, engineering is not on the list of the top ten majors, yet it pays significantly more. Perhaps that explains at least part of the reason why so many college graduates find themselves living at home, working at minimum-wage jobs, and burdened with college-loan debt.

The oil and gas industry has been the best-performing business sector in recent years, certainly since the beginning of the Great Recession. And it could offer even more opportunities if the Administration would adopt the right policies, such as opening more federally owned land to exploration. There’s a lot to like about the oil and gas industry, particularly now when the world is becoming an increasingly hostile place.

BusinessNational Independent Energy Supply Is The Future by Ndubestexplorer(op): 11:07am On Sep 01, 2014
National independent energy supply is not a new concept, it has been around for centuries; but I think it is much more relevant now than it has ever been. All countries require energy, just like we require food, shelter and clothing.

Energy provides everything from economic growth to sustainable civilizations. Basically without energy there is no bulk production of food, employment, transport, education or medical facilities Not just the basics of civilization but all the luxury items as well. Those of us that have energy can't live without it (literally) and those that do not, are hell bent on obtaining it.

A sustainable and affordable energy supply is no longer enough. Nations must also strive to have an independent energy supply. Independent energy supply is when a nation is self sufficient in supplying all of it's own energy requirements; hence it is not dependent on another country to supply its energy or its energy fuel. It is in control and not overly influenced by others. Perhaps this is the new definition of a truly sustainable civilization.

The world's conflicts are currently increasing to a level not seen since the second world war. This is causing either a decrease in energy fuel supply and or an increase in pricing. Nations are not as neighborly as they used to be; take Europe, Africa, South East Asia and the Middle East as examples. These areas that are not in armed conflict are certainly drawing lines in the sand politically.

Nations should now be looking to achieve an independent energy supply; to be in total control of it's own energy and energy fuel to ensure a sustainable civilization. It doesn't really matter what type of energy or energy fuel they choose, but it must be readily and abundantly available within that nations geographical and political boundaries. Career6 Steps To Take Before Quiting A Job by Ndubestexplorer(op): 11:57am On Jul 18, 2014
After months of searching you finally found the perfect job. During the interview process you felt a connection with your future employer and the feeling was mutual. Now comes the not so fun part of saying goodbye to your current employer.

Even if your boss is the devil incarnate you should do your best to leave on good terms. You never know when you’ll need a recommendation or when your paths may cross again. Here are six ways to ensure you’ll leave with your reputation intact.

Tell your boss first:
No matter what your relationship has been with your boss always tell him or her you are leaving before you tell your coworkers. You don’t want your boss to hear about your new job though the rumor mill. It will only serve to make you look bad. Many industries are smaller than you think and you never know who knows who. Your current boss may be friends with a future employer.

Just share the facts:
Giving your notice is not the time to air every grievance you’ve had during your tenure. Refrain from dumping your emotional baggage, making accusations or reciting a laundry list of complains. Be clear and concise when talking to your boss or HR. Focus on sharing information and facts that can be verified rather than generalities. Make a list before you give notice to help keep yourself on track.

Protect yourself:
Before you quit make sure you don’t have a noncompete agreement in place that will prevent you from accepting your new position. Not only might your previous employers sue you if you break a noncompete agreement, they may be able to sue your new employer as well. If you have questions contact your nearest labor office or see an attorney.

Get your bonus:
It may not be a good idea to leave before you get your bonus. Companies pay bonuses as an incentive so if you leave before you receive your bonus your employer may look for any excuse not to pay you. Also, some companies have written policies that say you must be employed with them at the time the bonus is paid in order to receive it. Check your company’s guidelines.

Give your boss notice:
Remember the golden rule of leaving any job: Don’t burn bridges. Be sure to give your employer enough notice so that they are not left hanging. If possible, offer to help find and train your replacement. While you may be tempted to slack off once you’ve resigned don’t do it. Give your best until the end of your last day.

Don’t brag:

Your next job may be the perfect opportunity with an awesome company and the best boss
ever. But, there’s no need to share that with your current boss and coworkers. However, long you’ve been with your current employer there’s no reason to let your boss and coworkers know how happy you are to be leaving. That’s what having drinks with your BFF is for.

Having a new job is exciting. Whatever your reason for making a move - a bump in salary or more flexibility or whatever – make sure that you leave your current position on the best terms possible. Leaving gracefully is about more than not burning bridges, it’s about moving on with your integrity intact.

Career11 Mistakes You Make At Work On Daily Basis by Ndubestexplorer(op): 5:46pm On Jul 16, 2014
So whether you’re angling for a raise, a promotion or just a few kind words from your boss, here are a few common workplace mistakes you should quickly correct. Your employer will appreciate your new found productivity, and so will you.

1. You’re Getting In Late
Even if your boss lets you set your own schedule, you should still aim to get to work early. A recent study found that bosses tend to exhibit a “morning bias,” rating employees who get in to work early as more productive and conscientious than employees who get in later -- even if they put in the same number of hours throughout the day.

2. You’re Checking Your Email First Thing In The Morning
It seems counterintuitive, but checking your email first thing in the morning can put a damper on your productivity for the entire day, according to time management expert Julie Morgenstern. Starting your day by responding to 46,966 emails puts you in immediate stress mode, and that will make it harder to focus later on.

“Those requests and those interruptions and those unexpected surprises and those reminders and problems are endless,” Morgenstern told The Huffington Post.
Instead, Morgenstern recommends starting your day with an important task that requires focus and then moving on to more trivial matters like replying to emails. "There is very little that cannot wait a minimum of 59 minutes,” she said.

Super-successful people generally avoid sending long emails, and so should you. Think of how many emails you receive in a day. Now think of how many TL;DRemails you’ve skipped over. Why expect more of others than you do of yourself?

Our advice: Limit your emails to five sentences or fewer. Just make sure to keep it cheerful, so that you don’t come across as rude.

4. You’re Sitting At Your Desk

Sitting down, rather than standing, isn’t just bad for your health; it could be making you less engaged and creative at work. A new study from the Olin Business School at Washington University shows that standing up while engaging in a group project makes workers more creative, more enthusiastic, less defensive of their ideas and more willing to collaborate than when they’re sitting down.

Andrew Knight, a co-author of the study and an assistant professor at Washington University, told HuffPost that “if you work in a place where you’re standing up, you’re going to move more, and because of that you’re going to become more physiologically activated. Your body is going to be 'on.'"

5. You’re Trying To Multitask

Chances are, as you’re reading this, you have six other browser windows open, and you're convinced all of them are equally important. And you're making a phone call. And you're eating your lunch.

But studies show that you need to focus on one challenging task at a time in order to really nail it. Our brains can juggle menial tasks easily enough, but tasks that require real brainpower need your full concentration. Your short-term memory can’t process two separate streams of information at once, and the result is you’ll be doing a sloppy job at one or both of those tasks.

When you read something while you’re simultaneously trying to respond to emails, for instance, you’re not going to remember anything that you’ve read. And if you don’t remember it, you can’t brilliantly quote it later.

6. You’re Not Taking Stock Of Your Day

Diaries aren’t just for tweens obsessed with selfies and Justin Bieber; they're for you, too. Taking as little as five minutes each day to jot down what you’ve learned, what went well and what went not-so-well during the workday can help you de-stress, identify solutions to problems and even come up with brilliant ideas that will boost your profile in the workplace.

It’ll also remind you to take stock of your successes, rather than just your failures, according to Theresa Amabile, co-author of "The Progress Principle: Using Small Wins to Ignite Joy, Engagement, and Creativity at Work."

"One of the big reasons to keep a diary is to record small wins that otherwise might slip through your memory," Amabile told Forbes. "You can leverage the progress principle and allow yourself to get that boost from realizing you are making progress. And it's also helpful to record major setbacks -- or minor ones that recur -- so you can think about how to get rid of inhibitors blocking your progress."

7. You’re Not Going To Happy Hour

Everyone needs a stress release. For some, that’s an hour-long run at the gym; for others, a pint of cookie-dough ice cream. But for many at the typical workplace, it's a chilled glass of beer at a local watering hole.

Whether or not you’re a drinker, you should considering heading to a bar after work every now and then. It’s a prime networking opportunity and a chance to make new friends with your co-workers. Constantly avoiding outside activities with your co-workers could make your seem like someone who doesn’t play well with others. And that's not the kind of impression you want to leave in the workplace.

8. You Don’t Have A Hobby

Nurturing your own creative interests actually makes you a better worker, according to a recent study from San Francisco State University. Spending mental energy on something that has nothing to do with work -- playing an instrument, knitting, learning to make the perfect burrito or simply unwinding with a book -- can make you more productive when you get back to the office.

In a press release, the study’s lead researcher said that creative hobbies made workers feel more refreshed and productive the next day. Study participants with hobbies were also found to be more creative and more likely to help out their coworkers in the office -- two metrics that translate to a significantly better performance review.

9. You're Not Taking Vacation
You may think you’re being conscientious and hardworking when you avoid taking vacation days, but you’re only hurting yourself. Nearly half of Americans reported using less than 25 percent of their allotted vacation time over the past year, according to a recent Glassdoor survey.

That's unfortunate, because taking a few days off to recharge your batteries is as good for your productivity and creativity as it is for your health.

10. You Don’t Even Take A Break

In 2012, only 1 in 5 American workers ate lunch away from their desks, a trend that doesn’t seem to be reversing itself. But taking frequent breaks actually makes workers more productive and increases focus.
Even taking a short walk during the workday can improve memory and attention by as much as 20 percent, according to a University of Michigan study. Or if that's not for you, looking at pictures of nature scenes can recharge a fatigued brain better than downing another cup of coffee.

11. You’re Sacrificing Your Health And Your Sleep

After a long day at work, you might not have the energy to head to the gym. You just want to curl up on the couch with some cheese puffs and forget about the day with a Netflix binge. Or maybe you take your work home with you and stay up late, trying to get a head start on the next day. Either way, you’re doing yourself a huge disservice.

Eating right, exercising and getting enough sleep have all been linked to better productivity among workers. Exercise has been shown to boost creativity and reduce feelings of stress, which can lead to poor health and decreased productivity. And if you’re chowing down on the wrong foods, whether at home or at lunch, you’ll feel lethargic and unproductive afterwards, otherwise known as the dreaded food coma.

The brain’s waste removal system kicks into high gear when you sleep, literally clearing your mind in preparation for the next day. And while you sleep, your brain acts like a miracle drug, strengthening memories, repairing brain cells, regulating your metabolism and learning new motor tasks, all of which will recharge you for the next day’s work -- something both your boss and you can appreciate.

Education5 Lessons Every Business Startups Should Learn From German Football Team by Ndubestexplorer(op): 5:59pm On Jul 09, 2014
The day was June 29, 1998, the place was Lyon, France, Germany was playing Croatia in the World Cup.
On that sad day, Germany lost 3-0 against Croatia in a very dramatic match. Nobody expected that, German players showed their fighting spirit, and of how they ran across the field from the first minute till the final whistle.

4 years later, Germany reached the finale against Brasil, and lost 2-0. Another 4 years after that, they reached the semi final and lost 2-0 against Italy. Another 4 years, they lost 1-0 against Spain.

8th July 2014 made it 16 years, they crushed Brasil (the hosting country) 7-1 in the semi final (They reached the semi finals 4 times in the last 4 tournaments, a world record)

Plenty of lessons are there for us to learn from the German football team. As a business owner, there are 5 lessons to be learnt from this great team.

1) Determination.
They never quit, they fight one battle after another, one match after another, and they never throw the towel. Most business go through roller coasters all the time, if they are not in it to win it, then they should not even bother book domains for their sites.

2) Learning from the competition.
In 1998, France won the world cup against Brasil through 2 headers by Zizou (Zinedine Zidane) an Algerian immigrant who joined the Gallic roosters at an early age. Zidane was not the only player in the French team who was a foreigner. France won through a team of immigrants that had the talent, the attitude, and what is most important, a healthy integration.

In 2002, Germany had a multicultural team that consisted of players who had Polish, Spanish, Italian, and African roots, among others.

Having a lot of multi-ethnic players was not the only thing Germany learnt from the competition. When tiki-taka proved itself as winning football technique, the German greatest football club, Bayern Munich hired one of the scholars of this modern technique, Barcelona's ex-manager Pep Guardiola. This move gave Joachim Löw (The Mannschaft's manager) a front seat view to learn all the tricks of tiki-taka. Joachim clearly used what he learned in this world cup so far, and it is paying off.

A business owner should keep a close eye on the competition, local and global ones, and they should learn from them.

3) Flexibility.
"Release fast, release often, and iterate" these golden words describe the best approach toward releasing a new product in any business startup. Changing the formulas, and business tactics is viable for any startup to survive. Don't stick to your original plan, if it does not work, you better be quick enough and alter your moves.

Joachim Löw changed the formation of his squad so many times before he picked the 23 players who are going with him to Brasil. He did not stop there, he changed the tactics, alter the players, and moved from one formation to another during this world cup till he found the perfect 11 man team.

These men won 7-1 against Brasil on the 8th of July 2014.

4) Keeping all eyes on the goal.

If you get the chance to walk into the German football federation building, you will find a picture of the famous Maracana stadium in Rio De Janeiro, where the final match will take place next Sunday.
Everyone in the German football team, the players, the managers, even the physicians kept an eye on where they are going, what their goal is, and kept visualizing how they would get there, to that stadium, and nowhere else but it.

Business Startups should keep their goals, and hung on the wall for every employee to see, and remember. There is no room for distractions where winners come from.

5) Seize all opportunities, score all goals, be limitless.
The Germans scored 5 goals in the first half an hour of their game against Brasil, but they did not stop there. They scored another two in the second half, and would have scored more if the game stretched for more than 90 minutes. They did not say that's enough for us, this is our limit, this is more than we expected. They kept going.

Business Startups should be limitless, fearless, they must believe that they are good enough, strong enough, and that even the sky is not their limit. Startups must stand tall against a competing business, no matter how big that business is, and they should take a shot after another, till they remove that business from the top.

It was a long journey for the German football team from 1998 till 2014, and I assure you that they will keep on teaching us lessons till the end of football days.

BusinessNigeria Is The Next Oil And Gas Investment Destination by Ndubestexplorer(op): 2:19pm On Jul 04, 2014
The region of West African holds unprecedented volumes of natural resources of which only a fraction is currently being exploited. In order for Africa to reap the economic and social benefits from its booming oil and gas sector its governments are implementing favorable oil and gas frameworks meant to create favourable investment opportunities in the oil and gas sector. Most of these countries have initiated policies to ensure that the oil and gas sector becomes more competitive which will eventually yield maximum benefits to the countries.

Apart from Nigeria, other West African countries that have successfully attracted investment to its oil and gas industry in recent times: Ghana, Equatorial Guinea/Sao Tome and Principe, Gabon, Ivory Coast, and Mauritania.

NIGERIA

Nigeria serves as a hub for oil and gas exploration, production and services in the West African Gulf of Guinea region. Nigeria has recoverable gas reserves estimated at between 124 -187 trillion standard cubic feet (Tcf) and additional undiscovered natural gas potential conservatively estimated at about 45-100 Tcf. Nigeria is a “gas surplus” country with gas life expectancy projected to last 109 years. At present, about 75% of associated gas produced as a consequence of oil production activities is flared.

Nigeria still remains the most promising investment hub in the region. The present divestment of assets being carried out by the IOCs gives a good backing to this assertion; they are selling to move further deep offshore for better benefits. To read full story, click the link below:
