sunnymighty: A clear case of oppression. Did the Landlord deny the Caretaker was acting on his behalf. I am sure you wouldn't have heard anything if the money handed over to him fully. He should go after his caretaker not you. You're right. If he had got the money, he wouldn't have talked to me about anything. |

We4all: Sadly, I am not a legal professional and can't give you any legal advice. The right thing to do now is to seek the counsel of a legal professional who will tell you how to proceed so you can recover your money.
As long as there is proof of payment, and the apartment keys were handed over to, then the landlord has no case and is just oppressing you. Thanks man I really appreciate it, I'll call a lawyer now. |
Family › Re: Rent was paid to the caretaker and it's causing a big problem by NeckingNgulping(op): 12:39pm On Feb 08 |
We4all: Dude, that landlord is clearly oppressing you. How many tenants deal directly with landlords these days?
Was the caretaker not working for him? If not, then how did you get the keys to the apartment?
At this point, what you should be fighting for is how to recover your money from the landlord who authorised the caretaker to receive the rent on his behalf. Both the landlord and the caretaker are thieves. Thanks man for the concern you have shown so far. I'll try my best to hold the landlord responsible. But, I just want to know how to legally go about it without involving the police. His argument is that I shouldn't have paid to the caretaker. However, before I paid the cash, I spoke to the landlord through the caretaker's phone on WhatsApp video call where he talked about the dos and donts, and how I should always be on my good behaviour in his compound. Should I get a lawyer and go to court with him? Is there any possibility that it will favour me at the end and my money will be gotten through the court? |

We4all: If a tenant pays rent to a caretaker and he absconds with the money, then it's up to the landlord to recover the money. Why should the tenant be on the receiving end? I met the landlord earlier this morning. He said I should go and look for the caretaker myself and get the money. Someone I'm not sure if he's still in Rivers State. Couple of days before the caretaker ran away with the money, I moved some of my properties to the veranda of the apartment. The landlord is now threatening to take me to court if I don't move my things away from there. |

gerizzim: since cray fish don bend , let the incoming tenant be diplomatic in relatin wit the landlord provided he made the payment to the caretaker by virtue of the landlords Instruction. But if it wasn't base on the directive of the landlord den dt money don go.
Normally in this scenario, the landlord ought to meet wit the caretakers people/family and let dem know if they can find a way of reaching the caretaker to cough out the money. But he would not like to stress himself doing dat. Bros, na big matter o. The caretaker is the landlord's errand boy who doesn't pay rent. Since the landlord relocated, the caretaker had always been the one negotiating rent with incoming tenants, he (the landlord) even issues the tenancy agreement through the caretaker. One will think it's safe to pay through him. Matter of fact, he had lived there for over ten years. |
Family › Rent was paid to the caretaker and it's causing a big problem by NeckingNgulping(op): 10:03pm On Feb 06*. Modified: 6:29am On Feb 07 |
A rent of 900k was paid to a caretaker whom the landlord uses as a broker between him and incoming tenants. Now, the caretaker has absconded with the money and the landlord would not let the man who paid pack in.
What course of action can the man take as he can't reach the caretaker and the landlord would not give him the key to the apartment? |

nairalanda1: NO, voting and supporting leaders who were more interested in sharing money did this.
Nigerians think of their economy as a cake, and expect their leaders to share the cake. Serious nations see their economy as a factory that yields products for profit.
But since independence, we wanted free stuff, and more cake...and here we are.
Even then, people still illegally immigrate to the US from industrialized countries. A lot of chinese do so, for example. Please I would like that you elaborate a little bit on the free stuff that Nigerians wanted. Have they been getting the free stuffs? If yes, is the free stuff the reason why the economy is this bad? |

If Sim Fubara defects to ADC Wike will have absolutely nothing to stand on politically as leverage. The new party will be a face saving platform for the governor and would contest in the next elections with Rivers State within his grasp. No amount of intimidations from Wike will move him anymore, and the president? He wouldn't hesitate to jettison Wike as his relevance would diminish. |

emkz: The defectors have a common denominator.
They are all aggrieved.
One of them slapped a woman in a shop and he railed against the Muslim-Muslim ticket. He was kicked out of the senate. Today, he is joining coalition to save Nigeria.
One was dismissed for awarding grasscutting contracts to a company he had interest in at an inflated cost. Today, he wants to resuce Nigeria.
One was in charge of transportation. He refused to build maritime university in the Niger Delta but built a university of transportation in Katsina State. He refused to build railwat between Kano and Lagos or Benue and Lagos, but started railway between Kano and Maradi. We were told his wife was a contractor to lucrative parastatals under his ministry. Today, he wants to rescue Nigeria.
Finally, there is one who mismanaged privatization of government assets, completely destroyed NITEL, messed up power sector reforms, joined someone to commit $12billion naira to repay debts and pay commision on the debt. Today, he wants to rescue Nigeria.
Rescue Nigeria from who exactly? You're making a lot of sense. Could you please tell me which party you support? |
