Often times , the society tends to misinterpret the meaning of "Abuse in a relationship/marriage".
What subconsciously comes to everyone's mind when they hear of "Abuse" in relationships is physical violence /abuse. And this is very wrong.

There are various forms of abuse in relationships and the verbal abuse is the chief of them all.

Words are weapons that inflict injuries without outward visible scars. And that is the problem. In many wrong relationships, many tend to be faced with this very form of abuse and keep it quiet. Tolerating it in silence.
Often times , verbal abuse leads to physical abuse. And thus should be addressed with as much effort as physical abuse.
Talking down on a partner, or using derogatory words, inflicts as much pain on the person as physical abuse. The only difference is that one is visible to the outside eyes while the other is not.

As an advocate for abuse-free relationship, I have seen that verbal abuse is about the highest cause of physical abuse in relationships/marriages. Both partners should learn to respects each other.

We cannot win the war against abuse in marriage or relationships if we fail to pay attention to verbal abuse.
