by Ekemma UBA AFTER a successful decade in the saddle as Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade has revealed that over 16 million Nigerians use hard drugs especially, Indian Hemp otherwise called cannabis for one reason or another. The former helmsman of the nation’s anti-narcotic agency who took a bow recently and was succeeded by Col Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah (Rtd) made this rather shocking disclosure shortly before leaving office at the official presentation of an anti-drug television campaign commercial christened ‘Be smart, Don’t start.’ The campaign is jointly promoted by the agency in collaboration with the Celebrity Drug-Free Club. The ex-drug czar informed that there was dire need to reduce drug use to the barest minimum adding that this can only be achieved through sustained advocacy and aggressive public enlightenment. According to him, “Sixteen million Nigerians use cannabis commonly known as Indian hemp while seven million (7,000,000) Nigerians use cocaine, heroin or both. Seventy-seven thousand, four hundred and eighty-eight (77,488) suspected drug traffickers were arrested by the NDLEA between 2000 and 2013 for various drug offences even as over one hundred (100) officers died in the line of duty since the Agency commenced operations in 1990”. Members of the Celebrity Drug-Free Club that featured in the commercial include, Ogun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy and Chief Executive Officer of Prime Time Entertainment, Mr Dayo Adeneye also known as D1, President of Drug Salvation Foundation and Convener of NDLEA Celebrity Drug-Free Club Mr Wilson Ighodalo as well as Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Yes Magazine, Mr Azuh Arinze. Others are Chief Executive Officer of Ouch Clothing, Mr Uche Nnaji also known as Style Doctor; Music Producer, Mr Wilson Joel and Ace Sport Broadcaster, Mr Godwin Enakhena. Giade described the celebrities as patriotic Nigerians who are interested in the wellbeing of members of the public. “These ambassadors are genuinely motivated to contribute their quota to the growth and development of our country. They have invested their time and material resources towards the success of this campaign. This is one community service that is worthy of emulation. The Agency will continue to require the assistance and support of champions in various fields of human endeavours because effective drug control thrives on the principle of collective responsibility.” While calling on families, schools, organizations and individuals to take the campaign beyond the television screen; the NDLEA former boss urged international organizations, corporate bodies and individuals to take advantage of this opportunity by sponsoring the commercials on national and international media stations saying, “We must continue to work very hard in reducing the number of persons who use drugs and also support the Agency in preventing casualties in the war against drug cartels. Every contribution towards drug control is a worthy investment towards a peaceful and secure society. Let me appeal to donor agencies to see this as a viable investment opportunity”. Reacting, President of Drug Salvation Force Mr Wilson Ighodalo said that members of the Club are deeply committed to the anti-drug abuse campaign. “The production of this television commercial by the Celebrity Drug-Free Club is part of our contribution to what the NDLEA is doing to reduce the problem of drug abuse and drug trafficking. This campaign is targeted at the youths who are vulnerable to drug use. We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute our quota in helping humanity.” Director-General of the agency, Mrs Roli Bode-George who was full of appreciation for the partnership thanked members of the NDLEA Celebrity Drug-Free Club for their invaluable contributions to the fight against drug abuse and trafficking in Nigeria assuring that the Agency is willing to partner with stakeholders to achieve the very essence of the partnership in line with best global practice. http://crimeworld.com.ng/2017/07/27/shocking-16-million-nigerians-use-cannabis-says-ndlea-77488-nigerians-arrested-drugs-trafficking-13-yrs/ https://crimeworld.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/india-hemp.jpg |
One of the suspected political and a notorious member of a cult group who the Police say was being held for armed robbery and who vehemently declined his real names but simply said he was popularly called ‘One Bullet’ is openly laying a curse on politicians across the country whom he says would not make Heaven. An intrepid but penitent looking suspect who claims he is from Edo State believed his arrest followed his activities as a political thug which made him join a cult group. Sources said the suspect who has been on the Police wanted list, especially, the Special Anti- Robbery Squad, SARS in Lagos and Anambra States for various crimes committed across the country informed that most Policemen were his personal friends adding that they were on his pay roll. Until his recent arrest by SARS operatives in a popular hotel in Oshodi Lagos, where he had gone to enjoy his loot with a popular fuji music star (name withheld), ‘One Bullet’ had to himself fleet of pretty ladies and 3 bouncers as body guards. But his misgiving about politicians stemmed from the fact that after being used to achieve their political goals, they soon abandoned them totheir fate. He further explained that since they were armed by politicians to cause rift and rig elections results to their advantage but later abandoned, they had to divest and used the same arms to better their lot through acts of criminality. According to him, “I do not even know why I am here because honestly if there is anybody that the Police should be arresting, it is the politicians. They are crooks and wicked. They would lure you into crime, promise all and all just to get what they want but immediately they get it, you are like a dunghill. They are the ones that bought us arms and ammunition to rig elections result to their favour’ sometimes we travel from here to Calabar, Anambra, Enugu any where they want to capture, they will take us there and lodge us in an expensive hotel just to do their biddings. So if they no longer care for us what do you want us to do with the arms and ammunition in our possession when we are hungry? That is why I keep telling anybody that cares to listen that politicians will never make heaven, I swear.” Continuing, ‘One Bullet’ said, “I won’t deny that I am cultist I have also use my arms to rob people but I don’t regret it because we are in a corrupt society. Since I was arrested, two of the politicians who probably have conscience had sent people to bring me money but is that enough? Look at me here on the ground talking to press men, me that had body guards…(weeps). In Edo State, we caused mayhem in some areas during the last election and did all the nonsense just to favour our sponsors, now nko, no bi me dey for ground so and them dey for them office dey enjoy?” The suspect further revealed that their membership spread across the country stressing that in Agege alone, they have about 2,000 members while Lagos Island (Isale Eko) is the cult group headquarters. According to him the only way to stop cultism is for the federal and state Governments to provide job for the teeming unemployed youths across the country. http://crimeworld.com.ng/2017/07/23/politicians-wont-make-heaven-says-robbery-suspect/ https://crimeworld.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/Suspected-Cultist-1.jpg https://crimeworld.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/Weapons-Recovered-By-The-Police-150x150.jpg |
Important lesson, be security conscious even during the day |
BUT for mother luck, a hapless toddler simply identified as Darasimi Akinyemi would probably have been sold into the ‘cold hands’ of a surrogate mother or worse still, had her destiny cut short by heartless and quick-wealth seekers in the land who would have used her for money ritual. Perhaps, it was to this end that her abduction by a devil- incarnate neighbour while in the warm curdles of a tired lactating mother who was deeply asleep while the enemy struck was foiled. Information scoped had it that the ugly incident took place at No 55, Oshodi Road, Oshodi, Lagos. According to sources, the mother of the baby girl, Mrs. Banke Akinyemi was though woken up from deep slumber by the noise of her baby’s abduction said she had barely finished breastfeeding her baby when she fell asleep at about midnight only to wake up moments after without her baby by her side. It was the noise outside her apartment that made her raised the alarm in search of her baby only to behold a mammoth crowd outside the house a neighbor identified as Endurance Idama clutching to her hapless baby. Mr. Idama who have been lynched by sympathizers for attempting to abduct the baby was however, saved by Police operatives attached to the Lagos State Taskforce on Special Offences. He was taken to the Bolade office of the Task Force where he admitted that he mistakenly entered Mrs Akinyemi’s apartment under the influence of alcohol maintaining that he did not mean to abduct the baby. The 31 year-old Obiaruku, Delta State born suspected criminal was however, quick to confess that he had had an eye on the mother of the child as a new tenant until he was told that she was a housewife. But the the Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force SP Olayinka Egbeyemi confirmed that the suspect would have been lynched but the quick intervention of his men who were on duty as of the time. According to him, preliminary investigations conducted by the agency revealed that the suspect who stays in the same compound with the mother of the child illegally entered another neighbour’s room at the mid-night to perpetrate the crime adding that the suspect would be transferred to Lagos State Criminal Investigations Department, Panti, Yaba, Lagos for further investigations on the directives of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police Mr. Fatai Owoseni.http://crimeworld.com.ng/2017/07/21/six-months-old-destiny-child-saved-abductor-true-story-drama/ https://crimeworld.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/IMG-20170718-WA0011-169x300.jpg |

POLICE Authorities announced yesterday in Lagos that it had concluded plans to arraign suspected killers of the popular Oshodi branch chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers NURTW, Chief Rasaq Bello aka Hamburger. The transport union leader was gruesomely murdered sometime in May this year by some gun men during the state’s All Progressives Congress APC party primaries somewhere in Oshodi. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, CP Fatai Owoseni who gave the names of the principal suspects as Messrs Samson Agbetoye aka ‘Golden’ and Babatunde Saka aka ‘Anger’in a chat with CrimeWorld weekly informed that investigations so far conducted pursuant to the murder of the union leader suggested that they were privy to the crime. According to him, “Investigations in respect to that murder case have been on since then and the Police have given it all sense of seriousness and professionalism it deserves. The Command will like to report to you today that in the course of investigation, the principal suspect on whom accusing fingers are being pointed who is named Samson Agbetoye aka ‘Golden’; we want to confirm to you that he has been in custody of detectives in connection with that case. Samsom Ategboye is in custody with another suspect known as Babatunde Saka aka ‘Anger’. The Command has gotten to that stage of investigation where it deemed it necessary for justice to take its course to arraign Samson Agbetoye and Babatunde Saka for the murder of ‘Hamburger’. The statement the command is making with this incident is to assure and reassure the good people of Lagos State that when incidents of such occur, that we will give it all it takes to get to the root of the matter to ensure that diligent investigations are carried out and at the end of the day, justice is served. As far as we are concerned in the Command, there is no breeding space for any criminal. Irrespective of who is involved in a crime, the Police under my watch would ensure that justice takes its course without fear or favour.” http://crimeworld.com.ng/2017/07/18/police-conclude-investigations-hamburgers-murder-move-arraign-killers/ https://crimeworld.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/FB_IMG_14961536875551-300x296.jpeg |
