SportsTop 10 Nigerian Male Boxers by NewDigitalWorld(op): 7:07am On May 01, 2025
Nigerian boxers have established themselves as formidable forces in the global boxing arena, with several fighters climbing the ranks to become world-class contenders and champions. According to Boxrec rankings, these are the top 10 active Nigerian male pugilists who have conquered the squared circle with their exceptional skills and determination. Peter Akinbo writes

1. Anthony Joshua (28-5-0, 25KOs)

Two-time unified heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua stands tall as Nigeria’s most accomplished boxer. The British-Nigerian heavyweight has repeatedly proven his mettle on the global stage with devastating power, as evidenced by his thunderous second-round knockout of Francis Ngannou in March 2024, which earned him CBS Sports’ Knockout of The Year.

Joshua’s punching power has cemented his status as one of boxing’s most fearsome finishers, with 25 of his 28 victories coming by way of knockout. Despite suffering a fifth-round stoppage loss to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September 2024, AJ remains ranked fourth in BoxRec’s heavyweight rankings, behind only Oleksandr Usyk, Dubois and Agit Kabayel.

2. Efe Ajagba (20-1-0, 14KOs)

The hard-hitting Efe Ajagba brings an impressive 20-1 record with 14 knockouts into his upcoming clash with Martin Bakole on May 3 at the ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The 30-year-old Nigerian powerhouse has been on a remarkable resurgence since his lone professional defeat to Frank Sánchez in October 2021, reeling off five consecutive victories.

Known for his devastating right hand, impressive reach and durable chin, Ajagba most recently dispatched Guido Vianello in dominant fashion last April. The bout with Bakole represents a golden opportunity for the Nigerian to make significant strides towards a world title shot in a division currently dominated by unified champion Oleksandr Usyk and IBF titleholder Daniel Dubois.

3. Taiwo ‘Esepor’ Agbaje (17-0-0, 12KOs)

Undefeated featherweight Taiwo ‘Esepo’ Agbaje has steadily climbed the ranks with his perfect 17-0 record, including 12 knockouts. The 27-year-old Lagos native, whose nickname translates to “plenty punches” due to his high-volume punching style, has already claimed the West African and WBF Intercontinental Featherweight titles during his promising career.

The technically sound boxer has been relentless in his pursuit of boxing greatness, consistently stating that his ultimate goal is to become a world champion. With his perfect record intact and growing international recognition, Agbaje represents one of Nigeria’s brightest boxing prospects.

4. Efe Apochi (13-3-0, 13KOs)

Cruiserweight puncher Efetobor Apochi returned to the ring in February with a ninth-round technical knockout victory over Dionardo Minor at Hilton Tampa Downtown in the USA, becoming the first boxer to stop the American opponent. The 37-year-old, who recently signed with Christy Martin Promotions, has maintained his reputation as a knockout artist with all 13 of his professional victories coming by stoppage.

5. Samuel Nmomah (21-0-0, 5KOs)

Undefeated middleweight Samuel Nmomah has crafted a perfect 21-0 record with 5 knockouts, establishing himself as one of Nigeria’s most technically proficient boxers. The 28-year-old captured the WBA Mediterranean middleweight title earlier this year with a unanimous decision victory over experienced fighter Abdul Khattab in Novara, Italy.

6. Tope Tajudeen (18-1-0, 16KOs)

Knockout artist Tope Tajudeen has rapidly emerged as one of Africa’s premier featherweights with his explosive punching power. The 27-year-old boasts an impressive 18-1 record with 16 victories coming by way of knockout, establishing himself as one of the division’s most feared punchers.

Tajudeen has developed a reputation as a knockout specialist with nearly 90% of his wins ending before the final bell. His consistent performances and determination have solidified his standing as one of the best in Africa within the featherweight division.

7. Yusuf Adisa (15-0-0, 10KOs)

Undefeated prospect Yusuf Adisa has maintained a perfect 15-0 record with 10 knockouts as he steadily builds his reputation in the featherweight division. The 25-year-old recently showcased his talent on the international stage at the inaugural WBC Boxing Grand Prix in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Representing Team Nigeria, Adisa secured a victory over Mexican fighter Carlos Arteaga Orona in a tightly contested six-round bout. Under the WBC’s newly introduced quantitative scoring system, Adisa emerged victorious with final tallies of 65, 65, and 75 points, advancing to the round of 16 scheduled for June 2025.

8. Olanrewaju Durodola (50-10-0, 44KOs)

Veteran cruiserweight Olanrewaju Durodola has amassed an impressive 50-10 record with 44 knockouts during his lengthy professional career. The 44-year-old power puncher has faced some of the division’s biggest names while competing at the highest level of the sport.

Throughout his career, Durodola has consistently demonstrated exceptional punching power, with 44 of his 50 victories coming by knockout. His wealth of experience and reputation as a dangerous opponent have made him one of Nigeria’s most recognizable boxing exports.

9. Joshua Wahab (24-2-0, 17KOs)

Super-featherweight Joshua Wahab has compiled an impressive 24-2 record with 17 knockouts during his professional career. The 27-year-old captured the WBO Africa Super Featherweight title as he established himself as one of the continent’s premier fighters in the division.

Wahab suffered a setback in May 2024 when he was knocked out in the first round by Britain’s Mark Chamberlain on the Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk undercard in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Nigerian was left needing oxygen inside the ring after the brutal stoppage but has since vowed to bounce back stronger.

10. Afolabi Shittu (16-1-0, 16KOs)

Rising super-flyweight sensation Afolabi Shittu has built an impressive 16-1 record with all of his victories coming by knockout. The 21-year-old power puncher has quickly established himself as one of Nigeria’s most exciting prospects with his devastating finishing ability.

With a remarkable 100% knockout rate in his victories, Shittu has established himself as one of Africa’s most dangerous punchers pound-for-pound. His continued development will be closely watched by boxing fans across the continent as he seeks to fulfill his enormous potential.

PoliticsPDP Heads To Court Over Okowa, Delta Governor Oborevwori's Defections. by NewDigitalWorld(op): 1:09pm On Apr 30, 2025
PDP Heads To Court Over Okowa, Delta Governor Oborevwori's Defections, Says APC Will Soon Implode.

This comes after the dissolution of all former structures, which the party said were rendered vacant by the defections.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to challenge the recent wave of defections from its Delta State chapter in court, describing the situation as a painful betrayal but also a "blessing in disguise."

This move follows the defection of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former governor and 2023 Vice-Presidential candidate Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, and virtually the entire state party structure to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking to journalists after a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) on Tuesday, PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, announced the party's decision to reclaim what it described as stolen mandates through legal means.

“We have instructed our National Legal Adviser to recover our mandate that they have taken away,” Damagum said.

“As far as the Electoral Act is concerned, whenever you leave a party, you must vacate the seat you occupied under that platform.”

While admitting the defections struck the party hard, Damagum maintained that the PDP remains strong and united.

“No amount of intimidation or mischief can bring down this party. It has survived all sorts of machinations in the past, and this one is just child’s play,” he said.

The party also announced that its South-South Zonal Caretaker Committee, led by Mr. Emma Ogidi, has been assigned to oversee affairs in Delta State.

This comes after the dissolution of all former structures, which the party said were rendered vacant by the defections.

Mr. Ogidi told stated, “We have been given the assignment to oversee Delta State. Our job is to go there, take stock of what is left, address members, give them confidence, and head-hunt credible individuals to serve in the caretaker committee. What happened to us was a great blow; we didn’t expect it.”

The PDP's Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Senator Ebere Wabara, also addressed the situation, expressing confidence that the APC would eventually “implode” under the weight of its own contradictions.

“There is no cause for alarm,” Wabara said. “The defections may just be a blessing in disguise. The APC has absorbed so many elements that it will soon face its own internal crisis. It’s only a matter of time.”

Meanwhile, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, addressing reporters separately on Tuesday, confirmed that he consulted with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar before leaving the PDP.

He dismissed reports that his decision was motivated by pressure from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), saying, “There was no hounding or persecution. My decision was based on political alignment and what I believe is best for my state and the country.”

The PDP also announced that its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting is scheduled for May 27, 2025, and proposed to hold a national convention between August 28 and 30, where a new leadership is expected to emerge.

Ambassador Damagum urged supporters to remain resolute.

“We are going to court, we are reorganizing, and we are preparing for the future. 2027 is not far, and Nigerians will speak again — loud and clear — against the hardship this ruling party has imposed on them.”

Travel10 Countries With Multiple Capital Cities by NewDigitalWorld(op): 12:55pm On Apr 30, 2025
While most countries have just one capital city, a few around the world take a different approach, splitting national duties across two or even three capital cities.

Whether for historical, political, or logistical reasons, these nations have chosen to spread out their centers of power.

From South Africa’s trio of capitals to Bolivia’s high-altitude split, here are 10 countries that operate with more than one capital city—and why.

1. South Africa

South Africa is a pretty unique country. it has three capital cities instead of one like you would expect. South Africa has Pretoria; the administrative capital, Cape Town the legislative capital, and Bloemfontein the judicial capital. In layman words Pretoria handles the government’s day-to-day stuff, Cape Town is where laws get made, and Bloemfontein takes care of the courts. This setup spreads power out across the country and helps make sure different regions and groups have a say. Cape Town is super popular with tourists due to its beaches, epic mountain views, and loads of outdoor fun. Pretoria has its own fans too, especially when the jacaranda trees bloom in spring and turn the city purple. Then there’s Bloemfontein, the chill one of the three, with a more residential, laid-back, and all about the legal side of things.

2. Bolivia

Bolivia is a country with two capitals: La Paz and Sucre. This split came about in the 1800s because of differing political views about the country’s future. La Paz is the main capital for the government, where the executive and legislative branches are based. It’s the world’s highest capital, sitting at over 3,650 meters above sea level, in the Andes Mountains. Just next to it is El Alto, a city up in the highlands, where the towering Mt. Illimani looms at 6,438 meters. For a unique experience, you can take a ride on the Mi Teleférico cable car, which offers amazing views of the area. Sucre, located in southern Bolivia, is the country’s constitutional and judicial capital. It’s known for its historical Casa de la Libertad, where Bolivia’s Declaration of Independence was signed in 1825. The city’s whitewashed buildings and stunning architecture are a big draw for tourists. The Plaza 25 de Mayo, Sucre’s main square, features the grand Metropolitan Cathedral, and nearby is the Museo Universitario Colonial Charcas, which showcases both religious artifacts and modern art.

3. Netherlands

This is a country known for its two capitals; Amsterdam and Hague. Amsterdam is known for its vibrant and welcoming atmosphere and famous party scene, is the official capital of the Netherlands. However, the country’s government is actually based in The Hague, which is home to the Dutch Legislature, cabinet, and Supreme Court. The Hague serves as the real political centre of the nation, where the Dutch monarchy resides and where the King delivers his annual throne speech. For centuries, The Hague has hosted the Dutch Parliament and government. Additionally, it is the location of important global institutions such as the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice.

4. Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has two capitals: Colombo and Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte. Colombo is the country’s main city for government work and law, and it’s also the largest city and financial hub. Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte is where the Sri Lankan Parliament is located and is the legislative capital. Colombo is a lively city with colourful streets, busy life, beautiful beaches, and a popular nightlife. Because Colombo became too crowded over time, the national legislature moved to the nearby city of Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte leaving the nation with two capitals. Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte was made the official capital in 1982, but Colombo remains a key city.

5. Kingdom of Eswatini (formerly known as Swaziland)

Eswatini is a landlocked country in Southern Africa that has two capitals. Mbabane and Lobamba. Mbabane is the administrative capital, where most government offices are located. Mbabane was founded in 1902 by the British, who made it the capital of the colony. Lobamba is the second capital, where the royal family lives and the country’s Parliament meets. Lobamba is also the centre of traditional and political power in Eswatini, while Mbabane handles the day-to-day government functions.

6. Benin

Benin, a country in West Africa that has two capitals. Porto-Novo and Cotonou. Porto-Novo is the official capital and is located in the southeast near the Gulf of Guinea. It is where the National Assembly meets. However, most government offices and ministries are based in Cotonou, the country’s largest city. Cotonou is also a popular spot for tourists, known for its attractions and importance as the centre of government operations.

7. Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast, also known as Côte d’Ivoire, has two key cities serving different national roles. Abidjan is the country’s largest city and economic powerhouse. Though not the official capital, it functions as the practical centre of government, housing most government offices, foreign embassies, and key institutions. Known for its lively culture, modern buildings, and busy markets, Abidjan plays a vital role in the country’s daily operations. Yamoussoukro, located in the centre of the country, is the official political and administrative capital. In 1983, President Félix Houphouët-Boigny, who was born there, declared Yamoussoukro the new capital in an effort to promote development away from the coast. Despite this designation, many government functions and institutions remain in Abidjan due to its established infrastructure and global connections. Notably, Yamoussoukro is also home to the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, one of the largest churches in the world.

8. Malaysia

Malaysia has two key cities that share national functions: Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. Kuala Lumpur, the official capital, is known for its vibrant nightlife, cultural diversity, and iconic landmarks. It houses the national legislature and the ceremonial residence of Malaysia’s monarch. As the country’s largest city, it also serves as the financial and commercial heart of the nation. To ease congestion and better manage administrative tasks, the government initiated the development of Putrajaya in 1995. Built around an artificial lake and located about 25 kilometres south of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya was designed as a modern, master-planned administrative centre. Today, it hosts most federal ministries, government agencies, and the Prime Minister’s official residence. It also serves as the judicial capital, home to the country’s highest courts. Putrajaya is a key part of Malaysia’s “Multimedia Super Corridor” (MSC), a high-tech development zone that includes major infrastructure like the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and the nearby Petronas Twin Towers. While Putrajaya handles most government operations, Kuala Lumpur remains the official capital and continues to be the economic and cultural powerhouse of Malaysia.

9. Tanzania

Tanzania, located in East Africa, operates with two capitals: Dodoma and Dar es Salaam. Dodoma is the official capital, where the country’s main government buildings and the National Assembly are based. Although it was designated as the capital back in 1974, the full shift of government functions began much later, with Dodoma officially gaining capital status in 1996. The move aimed to place the capital in a more central location, making governance more accessible across the country. Despite this, Dar es Salaam continues to function as the de facto centre of government activity. It remains the largest city and economic powerhouse of Tanzania, home to key institutions such as Ikulu (the Presidential residence), several government ministries, foreign embassies, and international organizations. As a coastal city, Dar es Salaam also serves as the main port and commercial gateway, playing a critical role in trade and infrastructure. Today, while Dodoma handles legislative responsibilities and some administrative duties, Dar es Salaam continues to be the heart of Tanzania’s economy, diplomacy, and international affairs.

10. Chile

Chile has two main cities that serve different capital functions: Santiago and Valparaíso, which are located just about 72 miles (116 kilometres) apart. Santiago is the official capital and the largest city in the country. It serves as the main centre for political administration, finance, culture, and tourism, known for its busy urban life and modern architecture. In an effort to distribute political power more evenly across the country after the end of Augusto Pinochet’s military regime, Chile moved its National Congress to Valparaíso in 1990. This coastal city, known for its colourful hills, historic charm, and vibrant artistic scene, became the legislative capital. Today, Santiago remains the seat of the presidency and executive functions, while Valparaíso is where the Chilean Parliament meets, helping to decentralize governance and promote regional development.

CareerSurviving Remote Work In Nigeria With NEPA, Network Wahala by NewDigitalWorld(op): 11:14am On Apr 28, 2025
So the question begs: can remote work truly thrive in a country where power cuts are a constant norm?

When remote jobs come up in discussions, we often focus on the flexibility they offer and the opportunity to escape daily commutes.

But while these are important benefits of remote work, the harsh reality of unreliable electricity in Nigeria makes it difficult for people looking to explore this area.

So the question begs: can remote work truly thrive in a country where constant power cuts are the norm?

The truth is that most parts of Nigeria receive an average of 2 to 3 hours of light daily. As a remote worker who needs to meet deadlines and maintain good online communication constantly, you know this is a huge deficiency that can impact your work.

Add that to the ever-fluctuating mobile networks, and you can see there's so much to be desired. So, how can you survive working in such conditions?

Here are special strategies that can help you remain at the peak of productivity, even in the most unfavorable conditions.

Find a Backup

First of all, hope is not a strategy. You can't completely rely on having electricity during your most crucial work hours. It makes sense to find a backup you can switch to during outages. There are so many options, but the most popular are:

Generator or Inverter:

If you’re working full-time from home, a small generator or a solar inverter can save your sanity. These small generators are not too expensive, and they're fuel-efficient, allowing you to reduce your reliance on NEPA.

Power Banks:

If you're serious about remote work, you'd know better than to not invest in power banks. Keep at least two fully charged power banks on hand at all times. Laptops, phones, Wi-Fi modems - everything needs to stay alive for as long as the power outage lasts.

Extra Internet Options:

We can't always trust these networks, and that's why it makes sense to have alternatives. Get at least two different networks, such as mobile hotspots, MiFi, or dongles. This gives you an opportunity to switch networks when your primary provider is not strong enough.

Time Your Power Moves

Since NEPA often has a "mood," you have to plan your work around power schedules (yes, even if they’re unofficial). Different areas have different unofficial power schedules. Find what works in your area and time your work to suit. There are usually more chances of having electricity early in the morning, so start your day early and rest during power outages.

Choose Your Work Battles Wisely

Not every meeting needs video.

Not every project requires heavy internet use. So know when to use which. With the rising cost of the internet in Nigeria, you want to make the best out of every subscription. The following tips exist to help you handle things better.

• Use audio calls over video where possible.

• Prioritize lightweight apps like Slack, Asana, Google Docs, etc.

• Download the offline version of important apps

Inform Before Trouble Strikes

Be proactive, not reactive.

If you sense power or network issues coming (rainy season, grid collapse news, or your generator coughing strangely), send a quick heads-up to your boss or team.

They appreciate the honesty, and you save face.

PoliticsStella Okoli Set To Open ₦‎35 Billion Factory In Sagamu, Ogun State by NewDigitalWorld(op): 7:24pm On Apr 27, 2025
Despite facing systemic barriers and discrimination, there are some women who have continued to break through glass ceilings, being at the forefront of innovation and business success and paving the way for future generations. One of these is Dr. Stella Chinyelu Okoli. Aside from leading the way to economic freedom, this pharmacist turned entrepreneur is more concerned about the wellbeing of every soul, thus her commitment to world-class pharmaceutical products and services.

At 81, one would have expected the Nnewi, Anambra State-born businesswoman to have relaxed a bit to enjoy the return on her almost five decades of multi-billion naira investment in Emzor Group. But this woman is untiring as she still engages in various mega industrialization projects. Her recent one is the N35 billion Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) manufacturing plant in Sagamu, Ogun State.

Despite significant risk associated with manufacturing of pharmaceutical products in the country, Okoli has put all she gets into the new multi-million dollar plant occupying more than 60 hectares of land. The new state-of-the-art pharmaceuticals factory was set up to combat the pervasive threat of malaria in Nigeria and sub-Sahara Africa. It is slated to begin full production in the fourth quarter of this year with the capacity to produce 400 million metric tonnes of quality APIs annually. This will mark a significant step toward reducing Nigeria’s reliance on imported medicines and creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs.

Founded in 1984, Emzor has grown from a small retail pharmacy, which Okoli started in1977, into one of Nigeria’s most respected pharmaceutical companies. Her success has also placed her among Africa’s wealthiest women, with an estimated fortune exceeding $80 million.

PoliticsRe: APC Chieftain Orubebe Welcomes Oborevwori, Others by NewDigitalWorld(op): 4:34pm On Apr 25, 2025
Indeed, politics is local, whenever I remember this Man, the below picture is what always come to my mind.

PoliticsAPC Chieftain Orubebe Welcomes Oborevwori, Others by NewDigitalWorld(op): 4:32pm On Apr 25, 2025
Former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Delta State, Elder GodsDay Orubebe, has welcomed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the PDP family into the APC, noting that the decision of the Governor to join the APC is very key to the development of Delta State.

Orubebe described the defections at this time in our nation’s political history as a courageous and strategic step that reflects a commitment to the progress and unity of Delta State and Nigeria as a whole.

The former Minister, who stated this in a statement, noted that in the past 20 months in office Governor Oborevwori has demonstrated capacity and shown that he is a Governor for all Deltans.

The statement reads: “I warmly welcome the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and the PDP Family into the All Progressives Congress (APC). Their decision to join the APC at this pivotal time in our nation’s political history is a courageous and strategic step that reflects a commitment to the progress and unity of Delta State and Nigeria as a whole.

“Governor Oborevwori has demonstrated uncommon leadership and commitment to the development of Delta State. I particularly commend his bold steps in infrastructure development, which have had direct and positive impacts on the lives of ordinary Deltans.

“Governor Oborevwori’s positive decisive action in the reconstruction of the long-abandoned Ohorhor-Bomadi Road is more than a Blessing to our people. That road, which generations of leaders had promised to fix but abandoned is finally receiving the attention it deserves under his watch. The Ijaw people are happy and will not forget this.

“Since assuming office, Governor Oborevwori has shown himself to be a listening leader—one who is genuinely attuned to the yearnings and aspirations of the people. This has been evident in his consultative approach to governance and his willingness to prioritize projects that directly affect the grassroots. His brand of inclusive leadership is what we in the APC welcome and embrace, as we work to build a stronger, more united Delta.

“The engagement of Julius Berger—a globally renowned construction firm—for major road infrastructure and ultra-modern flyovers is another commendable milestone. For the first time in the history of Delta State, we are seeing such a reputable company being engaged to deliver world-class projects. This bold move alone sets Governor Oborevwori apart and sends a strong message about his commitment to quality and long-term infrastructural development.

“As a chieftain of the APC in Delta State and a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, I understand the immense challenges that come with leadership. I also know the significance of having experienced, tested, and development-oriented leaders within our fold. The entrance of Governor Oborevwori and other PDP Leaders into the APC brings new energy, fresh perspectives, and a wealth of experience that will surely strengthen our party ahead of 2027.

“This is not the time for division, but for unity. We must all close ranks, put aside political differences, and focus on what truly matters—the welfare of our people and the future of Delta State. The APC in Delta is big enough to accommodate everyone, and I am confident that together, with Sheriff Oborevwori and other progressive leaders, we will chart a new and greater course for our state.

“Once again, I wholeheartedly welcome His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and Other PDP Leaders and Members. I urge all APC members across the state to open their hearts and arms to these new entrants. Let us build bridges, not walls, and focus on delivering the dividends of democracy to our people.

PoliticsAdeleke, PDP Govs Not Picking Your Call Again – Akindele Mocks Atiku, El-Rufai by NewDigitalWorld(op): 10:23am On Apr 24, 2025
Adeleke, PDP govs not picking your calls again – APC chieftain mocks Atiku, El-Rufai.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ayekooto Akindele, has said no Nigerian governor including Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, will support former Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in 2027.

Mocking Atiku, Akindele said Adeleke no longer picks the former Vice President’s calls at daytime.

Posting on X, the APC chieftain insisted that Atiku and former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai can’t stop Tinubu’s second term.

He was reacting to reports that PDP governors struck a deal with Tinubu.

It was reported that Tinubu’s deal with some PDP governors was responsible for the crisis rocking the opposition party.

It will be recalled that Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, recently declared that Tinubu will remain in power till 2031.

The PDP governor said Tinubu has the backing of Nigerians and will win reelection.

Eno made the remark after the PDP Governors Forum vowed never to back Atiku’s coalition.

Akindele wrote: “There’s no Nigerian Governor who has declared that he will support Atiku in 2027! Even Adeleke no dey pick Atiku’s calls at daytime again.

“I want to see Atiku’s face when Fintiri eventually joins the APC.

“One million Atikus and El-Rufais cannot stop the South and Tinubu from spending EIGHT YEARS in power.

“When it comes to politics, don’t drag anything with the JAGABAN. No matter how plenty the chicks are, they’ll always follow the Chicken from behind.”

SportsModrić, Drogba, Mbappe, Other Football Icons Who Own Clubs by NewDigitalWorld(op): 10:57am On Apr 19, 2025
As Luka Modrić steps into a new chapter of his illustrious career by becoming a minority owner at Swansea City, he joins a growing list of football legends who are taking their passion for the game beyond the pitch. From Beckham to Drogba, these icons are not just investing in clubs, they’re helping shape the future of football from the boardroom.

Here’s a look at 12 football stars who also own football clubs:

1. Luka Modrić – Swansea City (Minority Owner)

The Real Madrid and Croatian midfield maestro recently joined the ranks of football club owners by becoming a minority stakeholder at Swansea City, a club playing in England’s Championship. While this marks his first official venture into football ownership, it reflects Modrić’s desire to remain connected to the game beyond his playing career. His involvement is expected to bring valuable insight and increased visibility to the Welsh club.

2. Kylian Mbappé – SM Caen (Top Shareholder)

Before becoming a global superstar, Mbappé had trials at SM Caen as a youngster. In 2023, he returned to the club in a different capacity—as a top shareholder. His investment was seen as a sentimental move and a step toward long-term influence in football governance. However, his first year as a club owner hasn’t gone smoothly, with the team slipping to the bottom of Ligue 2 and facing relegation fears.

3. David Beckham – Inter Miami CF (Co-Owner & President of Soccer Operations)

Arguably the most high-profile footballer-turned-owner, Beckham co-founded Inter Miami CF in Major League Soccer. After securing franchise rights as part of his contract with LA Galaxy, Beckham built the club from the ground up. Inter Miami launched in 2020 and made global headlines by signing Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba in 2023. Beckham remains highly involved in club operations and branding.

4. Gerard Piqué – FC Andorra (Owner via Kosmos Holding)

Former Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué bought FC Andorra in 2018 through his company Kosmos Holding. Since then, he has invested in the club’s infrastructure and helped it climb from Spain’s fifth tier to Segunda División. Piqué’s vision includes modernizing club management and pushing for more innovation in football business, and he uses FC Andorra as a testing ground for new ideas.

5. Didier Drogba – Phoenix Rising (Former Co-Owner & Player)

The Ivorian legend joined Phoenix Rising FC in 2017, both as a player and co-owner. This unique dual role allowed Drogba to help the team on and off the pitch, contributing to the club’s rise in popularity in the USL Championship. Although he has since stepped away from ownership, Drogba’s time with the club left a lasting legacy, especially in increasing the team’s visibility and fan base.

6. Ronaldo Nazário – Real Valladolid & Cruzeiro (Owner & President)

Brazilian legend Ronaldo became the majority owner of Real Valladolid in 2018, helping to stabilize the club financially and guiding it between La Liga and Segunda División. In 2022, he returned to Brazil to purchase Cruzeiro, the club where he began his career. Ronaldo has taken a hands-on approach in both clubs, focusing on restructuring, youth development, and long-term sustainability.

7. Zlatan Ibrahimović – Hammarby IF (Co-Owner)

Zlatan shocked fans in 2019 when he acquired a stake in Swedish club Hammarby IF. While his investment was strategic and business-oriented, it caused controversy, particularly among Malmö FF supporters, where Zlatan started his career. Despite the backlash, Zlatan has continued to support Hammarby’s growth and branding efforts as one of Sweden’s most prominent clubs.

8. Cesc Fàbregas – Como 1907 (Co-Owner & Assistant Coach)

After joining Italian club Como 1907 as a player, Fàbregas quickly transitioned into a leadership role, becoming part-owner and later taking up coaching duties. He is currently involved in the club’s strategic development and has spoken openly about his dream of helping Como return to Italy’s top flight. His presence has attracted attention from sponsors, fans, and young players.

9. Paolo Maldini – Miami FC (Co-Owner)

The legendary AC Milan defender co-owns Miami FC, a USL Championship side in the United States. Maldini’s involvement in Miami FC reflects his global football vision, blending European expertise with the growing American soccer market. Though less hands-on compared to some other owners, Maldini has lent his name and knowledge to help guide the club’s development.

10. Gary Neville & Ryan Giggs – Salford City (Co-Owners)

Part of the famous “Class of ’92,” Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, and a few other Manchester United alumni jointly own Salford City FC. Since taking over, they’ve overseen the club’s rapid rise through the English football pyramid, taking it from non-league status to League Two. The ownership group has also invested in stadium upgrades and youth development, aiming to establish Salford as a solid Football League side.

11. Héctor Bellerín – Forest Green Rovers (Minority Owner)

Bellerín, known for his strong views on sustainability and social justice, became a minority investor in Forest Green Rovers, widely regarded as the world’s greenest football club. The English side is recognized for its vegan menus, solar-powered stadium, and eco-friendly initiatives. Bellerín’s involvement is less about business and more about supporting a club that aligns with his environmental beliefs.

12. Mathieu Flamini – CD Leganés (Reported Stakeholder)

Beyond his football career, Flamini has made waves in the business world as a co-founder of a multi-billion-dollar green energy company. He reportedly holds a stake in CD Leganés, a Spanish club aiming for promotion to La Liga. Flamini’s off-field pursuits suggest his involvement in football ownership goes hand-in-hand with his entrepreneurial and environmental goals.

PoliticsCross River Govt Threatens To Revoke Ownership Of Saraki’s Oil Palm Estate by NewDigitalWorld(op): 9:38am On Apr 18, 2025
The Cross River State government may revoke the title to 12,400 hectares of Ayi Eku oil palm estate in Akamkpa LGA operated by Ningsong M-House Palm Oil Ltd reportedly owned by former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

This follows complaints of neglect of the vast estate which has reportedly become fallow by residents of the area.

Ayi Eku Oil Palm Estate was privatised in 2007 under the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Saraki’s firm allegedly got the title to the estate.

Now, the Cross River State government has given the investors one month to submit detailed plans for regenerating and developing the plantation for full-fledged business, or the state House of Assembly will begin processes of revoking the license.

Leading other high-ranking state government officials, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Johnson Ebokpo, said the state has received mountains of petitions from the host communities against owners of the estate, all calling for new investors to take over.

Stakeholders, government officials, including the five communities which initially donated the land to the federal government as well as security agencies held a roundtable in Calabar to address the petitions before the management of the firm, warning them to live up to expectations.

Ebokpo said the state had to step in to resolve the issue between five communities, Iku, Abung, Akor, New Ndebiji, Okarara and the firm.

Some of the allegations by these communities against the firm are that the firm failed to implement terms of reference, including lack of corporate social responsibility and veering into illegal timber logging in the Cross River National Park.

According to Ebokpo, his office consulted the Bureau of Public Enterprises, BPE, which confirmed that Wingsong M-House was the majority shareholder and had the right to the title of the estate.

He called on the firm to act responsibly and to re-establish a new line of informal engagement with the communities to douse tension while the development plan was awaited, warning that they risk ownership of the estate if they failed.

He cautioned the five communities involved to show restraint even in the face of the misunderstanding over the years.

The commissioner stressed that they want responsible private sector participation in its business environment.

State security adviser, Major General Obono Ubi cautioned the firm not to allow the estate become a den for criminals so that the Ambazonian fighters in southwest Cameroon will not use it as their fortress against the Cameroonian government.

A lawmaker in the State House of Assembly, Phillips Bette, representing the Boki 1 constituency spoke about negligence, insecurity and the possibility of revoking their title.

Managing Director of the firm, Mr Moyi Ladoja denied veering into lumbering, disclosing that they recently resumed actions in the estate.

He appealed for two months to enable them properly detail their development plans.

He disclosed that misunderstandings between the host communities and themselves have barred them from full operations.

Celebrities5 Nigerian Celebrities Who Traded Worldly Success For Spiritual Purpose by NewDigitalWorld(op): 9:17am On Apr 18, 2025
These stars have found a deeper meaning to life switching from their erstwhile secular paths to faith-based pursuits.

Worldly success is attractive and tempting: fame, status, possessions, wealth come with the package. But when these adventures do not edify the soul, it can become unfulfilling for some who find their priorities changing as time passes.

It's not unheard of for a star at the pinnacle of their career to receive a higher calling and abandon their smooth-sailing secular path.

The stars in this line-up had it all but gave it up because they still felt an inexplicable emptiness within them that worldly success couldn't fill.

They are now known as faith advocates, fearlessly and passionately preaching spiritual purpose every chance they get.

Ready to meet them? Here are five Nigerian celebrities who traded worldly success for spiritual purpose.

1. Banky W

Banky's Instagram bio reads: "Music-Movies-Media-Ministry-Food-Service" first before anything else, reflecting his new path.

The former record label executive turned actor, politician and minister found Jesus and ditched his old lifestyle as a Lagos party connoisseur.

While speaking on the pulpit during a church service in 2021, the 44-year-old said:

"People look at me now and see me serving in God's house and they say 'ah, how did you come from King of Lagos party things to fulfilling your purpose in God's kingdom?' It's because even when I was ignorant and living like a vagabond, there was somebody somewhere sowing the seed of prayer over my life, that 'God, you will do it in this man. He will fulfill your purpose.'

"Listen, my mum has been praying before me since I was born till when I was a teenager, till when I was in my 20s, till when I was singing songs that do not glorify God."

Banky, now known as Pastor Banks in some quarters, has not looked back since he pivoted from being the life of the party to preaching at the altar and drawing souls back to Christ.

2. Chidinma

Chidinma's rise to fame was televised: she emerged the winner of a top-rated reality singing talent hunt show and then went on to become a force to be reckoned with among the femalefolk in the Nigerian music industry.

The Kosofe-born 33-year-old won major awards, toured countries, and collaborated with superstars throughout her career as a secular artist.

But she felt unfulfilled inspite of it all.

And then in May 2021, the singer, who was born blind, declared that she was switching fully to gospel music. "I'M A CRUSADER OF THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST," she boldly wrote as caption on her Instagram page.

Sharing her story in 2023, Chidinma said:

"I am a covenant child. I've not been able to function optimally and to my fullest potential outside of God. I feel like God is my source and there is no way I'll be able to do anything outside of Him. He has to be in the equation."

She has remained resolute in her decision to honour God with her talent as she recently dropped a gospel body of work titled, 'The Road Best Travelled'.

3. Lynxxx

Lynxxx stepped into the limelight after releasing his first single 'Change Your Parade' in 2009. He doubled down on his craft, finetuning his Jollof music sound while dominating the airwaves with chart-toppers like 'Leave Story' and 'Fine Lady' featuring Wizkid.

When it seemed like his career was ready for the next level, the 41-year-old announced he was born again in 2015.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M70EvWT4BeU

Celebrating his journey a year later, he wrote on his Instagram page: "So on this very day last year. I had an encounter that changed my thinking, my outlook, my stance on a lot of things and ultimately my life. It's been an amazing year of self discovery, truth and the beginning of an intimate relationship with God and Living in Purpose."

Although the Syndik8 Records founder chose not to toe the same path of his contemporaries who pivoted to gospel music, his lifestyle reflects his renewed priorities.

4. Obiwon

Obiwon released his debut studio album, 'Overture' in 2006 after which he resigned from his banking job. The album produced the classic hit ballad 'Onyinye'.

He then received three nominations at the 2007 Hip Hop World Awards (now known as The Headies) and won the Best Vocal Male Performance category.

As if that wasn't enough, the 47-year-old was also recognised at the Nigeria Music Awards, taking home the highly-prized award of Nigeria's Voice of the Decade (21st century).

His future in secular music looked bright — or so we thought.

However, Obiwon was meant to answer a different calling. He switched to gospel music in 2009 and attributed his sudden shift to a "certain kind of lifestyle that made him reflect and think of life and how he wants to [sic] end up."

"I discovered the celebrity lifestyle and the apparent “grandeurs” of fame, you know the “rock star” lifestyle, all up in my face to delve and indulge in. However this lifestyle began to make me ponder more about life in general, my purpose and how I should live my life and how I would end up.

"Looking at the lives of my favourite musical icons at the time, didn’t help matters. They mostly had terrible endings. So I began to look back into the faith I was brought up in.

"I questioned it and ended up discovering and encountering true life and living; that life that Christ taught and the one he alone gives. In essence, I became a born again Christian and my priorities changed," he said during an interview in 2014.

The talented singer has, in March 2025, revealed that while he is now a gospel music minister, he still records love songs.

😄 E ma binu. You're right. I minister the gospel in music and I sing love songs as well. I just released a 3-song love EP in February and I'm sharing to the best of my ability. The visuals are right there on my YouTube and the EP is out on all platforms. Thanks for the ❤...1/3 https:///khuEkgi0ka

5. DJ Cuppy

Popular Nigerian disc jockey, Florence Otedola, known professionally as DJ Cuppy, is the latest Nigerian celebrity to publicly embrace a deeper spiritual purpose.

She rededicated her life to God in August 2024 through a water baptism rite and expressed her delight, highlighting the act as the best decision of her life.

Then in April 2025, the 32-year-old opened up on how her career plans were disrupted because of her faith.

Was thinking this evening… Jesus really disrupted my DJ career plans o 😅✨💭 But in the BEST way. “Booked and busy” means nothing if you’re not walking in purpose.

— Cuppy (@cuppymusic) April 10, 2025
The billionaire heiress, in a subsequent video shared on Instagram, further elaborated on her new journey in faith. She expressed vulnerability, revealing that her life, though successful, was not fulfilling.

In her words, "I actually cannot believe how successful I was by worldly terms, but how empty I felt inside.”

If her recent posts are anything to go by, we can expect that she will continue to document her transition to spiritual awakening.

I didn't do MMM and Cbex, although I did one in 2011 and honestly I made lots of money with them then and when they fold up, the thing really pained me because I made lots of profits with them, but since that 2011, I have stopped doing anything like that because once bitten, twice shy.

We all know how MMM fold up and people are looking for quick rich scheme which I don't totally blame them (due to the situation in the country).

Cbex just fold up too and I can tell you for free that if another scheme launch today or tomorrow, people will forget what happened to both MMM and Cbex and join the new platform.

I read some new and saw videos online people causing Cbex and same thing happened with MMM years back, but be forget the easily and I think that's the loophole this schemes are using.

That's the truth of the matter.

We just need to be careful out there.
Foreign AffairsUS Vice President J.D. Vance Called Chinese People "Peasants" by NewDigitalWorld(op): 8:47pm On Apr 14, 2025
J.D. Vance Blasted 'Chinese Peasants' in a Fox News Interview. Now China's Hitting Him with Brutal Comebacks.

The vice president made the remarks while defending President Donald Trump's widely criticized "Liberation Day" tariffs.

Vice President J.D. Vance incited backlash after making a controversial statement about Chinese people during an April 3 interview on Fox & Friends.

The 40-year-old politician defended President Donald Trump and his plans for the global economy after he enacted sweeping tariffs on foreign goods on his so-called "Liberation Day."

His tariffs were blasted by politicians and citizens from both sides of the aisle. However, Vance argued that they served an important purpose in moving the United States away from what he described as a "globalist economy."

While explaining his stance, he referred to Chinese people as "peasants."

“What has the globalist economy gotten the United States of America? And the answer is, fundamentally, it’s based on two principles — incurring a huge amount of debt to buy things that other countries make for us,” he said, adding, “To make it a little more crystal clear, we borrow money from Chinese peasants to buy the things those Chinese peasants manufacture.”

Vance continued, saying, "That is not a recipe for economic prosperity. It's not a recipe for low prices. And it's not a recipe for good jobs in the United States of America."

Vance's insulting remarks made their way to Chinese social media site Weibo, where they became the top trending topic on Monday, April 7, and racked up more than 140 million views by Tuesday morning, according to CNN.

During a press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said that it was "both astonishing and lamentable to hear this vice president make such ignorant and disrespectful remarks," via CNN.

“This true ‘peasant’ who came out of rural America seems to have a lack of perspective,” Hu Xijin, an influential former journalist at the state-run tabloid Global Times, wrote on Weibo. “Many people are urging him to come and see China for himself.”

Others online made references to Vance's own working-class upbringing, which he documented in his memoir, Hillbilly Elegy.

Since being sworn in as vice president, Vance has continued his streak of controversial statements that began well before joining the ticket.

He generated headlines and memes after a February Oval Office meeting where he shouted at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and blasted him as "disrespectful" for expressing his views.

"Right now, you guys are going around and forcing conscripts to the front lines because you have manpower problems," he said as tempers escalated during the meeting. "You should be thanking the president for trying to bring you into this conference."

More recently, Vance supported the president's proposal to annex Greenland, insisting during a visit that the territory would be safest under U.S. control, despite polling in Greenland that shows enormous opposition to being absorbed by Trump.

SportsTunde Onakoya To Attempt 70-Hour Chess Marathon Guinness World Record In NYC by NewDigitalWorld(op): 10:33am On Apr 14, 2025
Chess master Tunde Onakoya is attempting a 70-hour Guinness World Record chess marathon in Times Square to raise awareness and funds for homeless children’s education.

What’s better than one Guinness World Record? Well, how about going for a second one? Tunde Onakoya is gearing up for another historic feat — this time, aiming to break the record for the longest marathon chess game, clocking in at 70 hours. And he won’t be doing it alone. Joining him on this mission is fellow chess coach and US National Master, Shawn Martinez.

You’ll remember that in April 2024, Tunde played chess for 60 hours straight in Times Square, New York, smashing the previous record and raising funds for children’s education across Africa. He initially set out to play for 58 hours but pushed himself to 60 in the hope of raising $1 million for out-of-school children.

Since then, two Norwegian players have surpassed that feat with a 61-hour record, and now, Tunde and Shawn are stepping up to reclaim the title, with their attempt scheduled for April 17th to 20th.

What makes this attempt even more inspiring is that Tunde will be joined each day by five children from Chess in Slums Africa, who, in his words, “have shown all of us that it is possible to do great things from a small place.” The children will take turns joining the marathon for a few hours daily.

As with his previous record-breaking run, the goal is much bigger than the game itself. Tunde hopes to inspire people around the world and rally support to build the largest free school for homeless children in Nigeria. He’s also extended an open invitation to every chess player in New York City to come and challenge them in Times Square.

PoliticsI Will Shock Governor Oborevwori Over Creation Of Anioma State – Nwoko by NewDigitalWorld(op): 4:25pm On Apr 11, 2025
The Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Hon Ned Nwoko, has vowed to surprise Governor Sheriff Oborevwori over the creation of Anioma state.

He vowed Thursday in Ogwashi-Uku, Oshimili north local government area, during the APC Women Support Group in Collaboration with Rita Daniels Single Parenthood, Girl Child Initiative, and Regina Daniel’s Charity and Dev Foundation, revealing that Governor Oborevwori told him he would not support the creation of Anioma state.

While vowing that nothing will stop the creation of an Anioma state, he maintained that Governor Oborevwori’s Aides are all anti-Anioma and afraid to see another state created for their selfish interests.

“It is now at a public hearing after passing the second reading. Then, it will be back to the Senate for a third hearing and eventually go to the President for assent.

“From the Delta north first Senator Osakwe, through Nwaoboshi, Okowa, they were all afraid because they don’t want the state shared. They don’t know the advantages of state creation, such as having two governors, two deputies, more lawmakers, and other developments.

“The only party that will make it happen is APC. If there is anybody in other political parties, it is because of their stomach but not for the interest of the Anioma people.

On why he joined APC, he said he had a meeting on 1st January 2025 with President Tinubu and subsequently met with the Senator President and other APC leaders and stakeholders who told him Anioma state creation could only be their project if he joined APC.

“If l am pushing and l have the President with me, wouldn’t l need to join APC? They said it was my project since l was in PDP, but if l wanted it to be their project, l should join APC. l want it to be their project. All APCs on the committee support the creation of the Anioma state.

“Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is doing everything possible to join the APC. The APC is a good party; if he comes, there will be competition. So everybody should join the APC now to position themselves because the next Governor, Senators, Reps, and Assembly members will join the APC in Delta state,” Nwoko assured.
