PoliticsControversy Rocks CPN Over Alleged Illegal Tenure Extension, Electoral Fraud by newshunterniger(op): 8:50am On Jul 17, 2025
A major controversy has erupted within the Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria) following an alleged unlawful tenure extension by the council leadership, prompting strong opposition from some members who have distanced themselves from the move, describing it as illegal, unconstitutional, and a threat to the integrity of the IT profession in Nigeria.

The discontent stems from the events surrounding the CPN’s 2025 general elections, which were reportedly stalled by a court injunction after a group of aggrieved stakeholders challenged what they called a manipulated clearance process designed to favour a particular presidential candidate deemed ineligible under the council’s own electoral guidelines.

Amid this legal suspension, it was gathered that the current Council Members, whose statutory two-year tenure ended on June 30, 2025, reportedly convened a meeting and resolved to unilaterally extend its lifespan by an additional three months, citing the need to oversee pending electoral and administrative transitions.

Established by Decree No. 49 of 1993, now an Act of the National Assembly, CPN is statutorily mandated to regulate and control the practice of computing and information technology in Nigeria.

The Act provides for a governing council, whose tenure is strictly defined to last two years, commencing from the date of election as stipulated in Section 4 of the Act.

Critics of the extension have insisted that no clause in the enabling law permits such post-tenure continuation, not even under the guise of awaiting judicial determination.

A council member who spoke in confidence to our correspondent described the extension as a “clear usurpation of power and an act unknown to the CPN Act”.

According to him, the law is very clear. Once a council’s two-year tenure expires, it is deemed dissolved. The Registrar/Chief Executive remains the accounting officer and continues to administer the secretariat until a new council is elected.

Findings by our correspondent revealed that the crisis began to brew shortly after the release of the electoral guidelines and screening processes for the 2025 elections.

According to documents seen by our correspondent, the guidelines required all aspirants to be up to date in financial dues, to have attended at least two out of the last three conferences of CPN and the Nigerian Computer Society (NCS), and to be free of any pending disciplinary actions.

However, it was gathered that controversy broke out when the screening committee cleared a candidate alleged not to have met these criteria.

Sources within the council disclosed that the said candidate had not attended the mandatory number of conferences but was said to have fulfilled the financial obligations within the stipulated period.

Despite these red flags, he was allegedly cleared by the electoral committee following intervention by high-ranking figures within both CPN and NCS against the electoral guidelines.

A member familiar with the screening process alleged that the clearance was manipulated.

"They asked three questions during screening – is the candidate up to date with dues? Has he attended two of the last three conferences? And is he facing any disciplinary action? These questions will be sent to both NCS and CPN Secretariat to clear the candidates. The answers must be yes for all the three questions and one of the candidate has not clearly met the criteria. Yet, he was cleared because certain people insisted, the first of it kind in the history of CPN Election. The candidate himself even confessed in writing that he didn’t meet the attendance requirement due to suspension," the source said.

Our correspondent learnt that the dispute has raised concerns about transparency and fairness in the selection process, especially given that, in the 2023 election, a former council president was disqualified for failing to meet the attendance criteria.

"That man was physically present at two conferences, but because he didn’t pay for one, he was disqualified. So, how can someone who didn’t attend at all be cleared in 2025?" another insider queried.

Following the controversial clearance, it was gathered that some stakeholders petitioned the court to halt the elections pending full judicial review.

The court granted an interim injunction directing all parties to maintain the status quo until the suit was resolved.

However, rather than await the court’s ruling, the council reportedly held a meeting on June 30, the last day of its tenure, and resolved to extend itself by another three months, purportedly to provide continuity.

A participant at the meeting said, "They claimed the extension was to manage the transition and election logistics, but that is not their role once tenure ends. It is the Registrar’s duty as chief executive to keep the council running until a new one is elected. This is a hijack."

Amid mounting criticism, some council members resigned their positions, distancing themselves from what they described as an “illegal council”.

A member of the CPN who spoke on the condition of anonymity told our correspondent that the Council Member that resigned asserted that he could not, in good conscience, continue to participate in an arrangement that violates the very law the council is meant to uphold.

He added that prior to this election, most committee selections within the council were done in secrecy and not in full plenary as required by due process.

"They would form election committees behind closed doors and bring it to plenary just for rubber-stamp approval. This was how the 2025 electoral committee was also formed," he alleged.

There are also fears that the Annual General Meeting scheduled to ratify the council's extension may be manipulated using a virtual format to silence dissenting voices.

One insider said, “They plan to mute opposing voices in the online meeting, conduct a sham vote, and claim legitimacy. The entire AGM is being weaponised.”

The Registrar of CPN, who by law remains in office until the expiration of his tenure in November, has yet to issue any public statement regarding the developments which could be in fear of the men in black.

However, several professionals and members of the Nigerian computing community have called for a full audit of the electoral process, warning that continued interference by “powerful cliques” within the council and NCS could erode public trust in CPN’s regulatory mandate.

PoliticsOgunsanya Fires Back At Macgregor, Says Falsehoods Will Not Prevail by newshunterniger(op): 6:44am On Jul 03, 2025
A community leader in the Orile Ilawo clan of Egba ancestry, Dr. David Ogunsanya, has reacted strongly to what he described as baseless and defamatory claims levelled against him by Oba Alexander Olusegun MacGregor and his publicist in recent online publications.

Ogunsanya, who has been vocal about issues concerning leadership, heritage, and the future of the Orile Ilawo and Ilawo township communities in Abeokuta, Ogun State, accused MacGregor’s camp of launching a smear campaign aimed at discrediting his efforts and silencing his advocacy.

The community leader, in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday, condemned the recent articles which claimed he was orchestrating a “campaign of calumny” against MacGregor.

He stressed that such claims represented a new low in what he alleged was a series of falsehoods being peddled to shore up the waning influence of the MacGregor camp in the community.

Ogunsanya also dismissed these allegations as malicious fabrications designed to tarnish his reputation and distract from pressing issues impacting the Orile Ilawo community.

“These attacks are not only baseless but also a deliberate attempt to suppress my advocacy for transparency and accountability in the Orile Ilawo community,” he stated.

He reiterated that his involvement in community matters has always been guided by a deep commitment to truth and to preserving the legacy of the Orile Ilawo people.

According to him, his position regarding Chief MacGregor’s non-indigenous status remains firmly supported by verifiable facts.

He presented what he described as fresh evidence to support this assertion and maintained that his actions have remained within the bounds of the law.

Addressing the court injunction dated January 28, 2025, Ogunsanya dismissed MacGregor’s claim that a court ruling issued on January 28, 2025, was ineffective due to a filed appeal.

While warning the public not to be misled by “deliberate misinterpretations of legal principles” being circulated by MacGregor’s camp, Ogunsanya added, “An appeal does not automatically void a court order.”

He added that the suggestion that the ruling “has no effect” was a gross distortion of the law and a calculated attempt to mislead the community and undermine the judiciary.

The community leader pointed out that even where an appeal has been filed, it remains legally toothless without proper compilation and transmission of records from the lower court

He added, "While an appeal may have been filed, this does not negate the validity of the court’s ruling or absolve Chief MacGregor from compliance until the appeal is determined. The suggestion that the ruling “has no effect” is a gross misrepresentation of legal principles, designed to mislead the public and undermine judicial authority.

"The legal process of an appeal requires strict adherence to procedural steps, particularly the compilation and transmission of records, without which an appeal lacks validity.

"An appeal lacking compiled and transmitted records from the lower court holds no legal weight. He urged Chief Alexander Olusegun MacGregor and his publicist to cease spreading misleading claims that deceive the public."

Ogunsanya also refuted claims that the presiding judge in the case recused herself, stating that such an assertion was completely unverified and appeared to be another fabrication designed to support MacGregor’s narrative.

The community advocate further described as laughable the accusation that he is carrying out a personal vendetta or seeking to destabilise the community through false allegations.

He said his actions have always been transparent and grounded in a desire to protect the rights and heritage of the Orile Ilawo people, noting that accusations labelling him a “usurper” or “land speculator” were malicious smears aimed at shifting attention away from what he called MacGregor’s questionable leadership practices.

Ogunsanya also countered MacGregor’s recent denial that he issued a warning prohibiting Orile Ilawo indigenes from celebrating the recently concluded Egungun festival.

He described the denial as false and misleading, stating that there is ample evidence, including recordings from a Splash FM broadcast, that confirm MacGregor did in fact issue such an announcement.

He accused MacGregor’s team of attempting to rewrite facts and distract the public from unresolved controversies surrounding the festival and other traditional rites in the community.

Expressing disappointment over the role of certain media platforms, Ogunsanya condemned what he called a lack of journalistic professionalism by some online publications that carried the defamatory report without reaching out to him for comment or seeking verification of the claims.

He maintained that his public statements, whether made on the radio or within Egba community forums, have always been based on verified facts and a firm concern for the welfare of the Orile Ilawo people.

“Such one-sided reporting undermines fairness and fuels division,” he said.

Ogunsanya reaffirmed his dedication to the people of Orile Ilawo, both at the homestead and in the township in Abeokuta, declaring that no amount of smear campaigns or misinformation would deter him from his pursuit of justice and truth.

He affirmed, “I remain committed to the truth and the welfare of Orile Ilawo community, both at the homestead and in the township in Abeokuta. No amount of falsehoods or campaign of calumny will deter me from standing for what is right.”

He urged the people of Orile Ilawo to remain vigilant and discerning, assuring them that the facts will ultimately prevail.

PoliticsProminent Businessman Survives Two Kidnappings, Loses Son, Security in Attack by newshunterniger(op):
Johnson Oguntayo

Awotona Joshua Olakunle, a well-known businessman and philanthropist from Ibadan, has survived two separate and violent abduction attempts that have left multiple people dead, including his 26-year-old son and several members of his security detail.

The incidents, which occurred within a span of months, have shocked the nation and intensified growing concerns about the worsening state of security across Nigeria.

First Kidnapping – November 11, 2024

The first abduction took place on November 11, 2024, while Mr. Awotona was traveling along the Isagamu Road in Ogun State. His convoy was ambushed by armed men who opened fire, killing his driver, identified as Kola, and police escort Sergeant Tunde Michael on the spot.

Mr. Awotona was abducted and taken into a forested area by his captors. He was held for several days while a ransom of ₦50 million was demanded. His family eventually paid the ransom, after which security forces were able to trace the kidnappers’ location through coordinated intelligence efforts. A rescue operation led to his release, and he was hospitalized for treatment.

“This incident was deeply traumatic for him and the family,” a close associate told reporters. “But no one imagined there would be worse to come.”

Second Attack – Tragedy at Home

Several months later, Mr. Awotona’s Ibadan residence came under siege in what security experts described as a highly coordinated home invasion. The attack occurred just after midnight. Gunmen, believed to be from a well-organized criminal network, disabled security systems and killed three guards stationed on the property.

The violence escalated inside the home. According to eyewitnesses, the assailants demanded to know Mr. Awotona’s whereabouts. In the chaos, his 26-year-old son, Yemi Awotona, attempted to confront the attackers and was fatally shot.

“Yemi was courageous,” a family friend recounted. “He died trying to protect his father.”

Mr. Awotona was once again abducted—this time from his own home—and taken into the forest by the same group. The news sent shockwaves across the country as media outlets and social platforms carried headlines of the brazen attack and the tragic loss of his son.

Rescue and Aftermath

Authorities launched a swift response, and within days, security operatives tracked the kidnappers to a remote location. In a pre-dawn raid, police and special forces stormed the hideout. A firefight ensued, resulting in the death or capture of the assailants. Mr. Awotona was found alive, chained and injured, but conscious.

He was airlifted to a hospital for urgent medical care.

Since the incidents, Mr. Awotona has largely withdrawn from public life. Sources close to him say he remains “deeply shaken” and is mourning the death of his son and the security personnel who died protecting him.

In recent months, however, he has begun quietly funding community security initiatives and youth protection programs. In a brief public statement, he called for “urgent and decisive action to protect Nigerian lives from rising violence.”

National Reaction

The twin attacks on Mr. Awotona and the brutal murder of his son have reignited public debate over the country’s deteriorating security landscape. Human rights groups, political leaders, and civil society organizations have all condemned the attacks and urged the federal government to intensify efforts to combat organized crime.

“These incidents are no longer isolated. No one is safe—not even in their own homes,” said a spokesperson from the Nigerian Bar Association.

Investigations into both attacks are ongoing, with police vowing to dismantle the criminal networks responsible.

PoliticsNNPP Suspends Olufemi Ajadi's Aide, Kilamuwaye, Over Anti-party Activities by newshunterniger(op): 10:02pm On Sep 19, 2024
The National Working Committee of the New Nigeria People's Party has suspended its Southwest Spokesperson, Mr. Kazeem Badmus Kilamuwaye, for three months.

Kilamuwaye, a close associate and aide of the 2023 Ogun State Governorship Candidate, Mr. Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, was also directed to face the disciplinary committee over allegations of anti-party activities.

The suspension announcement was made by the Factional National Publicity Secretary, Barr. Ladipo Johnson, following an emergency NWC meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday.

Sources close to the party reveal that Kilamuwaye's suspension was long overdue, stemming from Olufemi Ajadi's condemnation of the proposed change of the NNPP logo to Kwankwasia colors, similar to Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso's school logo.

A member of the Kwankwasia's Group National Working Committee(NWC) anonymously disclosed to our correspondent that Mr . Badmus Kilamuwaye's suspension was long overdue.

It as gathered that this was not unconnected with Mr .Ajadi Oguntoyinbo's condemnation of the purported change of the Logo of the Party to Kwankwasia colour similar to Kwankwaso's school logo.

The uncommon Courage of Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo to challenged the Unilateral proposal of the change of the NNPP logo was the major sin of Kilamuwaye who is believed to be the mouth piece of Mr. Oguntoyinbo.

Another source very close to Kwankwaso also disclosed to our correspondent on condition of anonymity that the plan of Kwankwaso is to seal up the expulsion of Kilamuwaye and Oguntoyinbo with other strong Southwest Leaders at the National Executive Council Meeting slated for September 30th 2024.

The source also made it clear that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso was unhappy with the 2027 Presidential ambition of Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo and therefore the better option is to push him out of the party before it is too late.

All efforts to reach Kilamuwaye and Oguntoyinbo proved abortive as our correspondent later learnt that Mr. Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo is currently out of the Country for Vacation.

An Administrative Manager at Shoprite,  Olasunbo Ngozi Ogunsanya fondly called Ola has gone missing and is presumed dead, sparking widespread concern among friends, family, and colleagues.

Ola's disappearance comes on the heels of the brutal murder of her close friend and protector, "Area Mama," a well-known cross-dresser and openly gay man.

Recalled that the popular cross-dresser popularly addressed as Abuja Area Mama, was reportedly found dead on August 8, 2024, in Lagos.

PUNCH reported that his corpse was dumped on the road along the Banex, Wuse II area of the Federal Capital Territory.

It was gathered that the outfit he was killed in was the same one he wore in the last video he posted on TikTok on Wednesday.

Although the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, the FCT Police Command stated that an investigation had commenced to unravel the mystery behind his death.

Following Area Mama’s death, it was gathered Ola who was one of his close friends had been missing.

Sources close to Ola revealed that she had been receiving threatening messages and was living in fear for her life following the assault at Quilox Nightclub in February 2023.

Ola had reported the incident to the police but faced intimidation and hostility.

After relocating to Abuja, it was gathered that Ola continued to face harassment and persecution due to her sexuality.

Our correspondent gathered that because of her sexual interest, Ola’s family disowned her, and colleagues distanced themselves upon learning of her relationship.

Area Mama's friendship provided Ola with a sense of security and acceptance. His murder has left Ola's loved ones fearing the worst.

“Ola was terrified,” said a friend, who wished to remain anonymous.

“She knew she was next on the list. We're worried sick about her safety,” the sourced added.

Shoprite management confirmed Ola's absence, stating, "We are deeply concerned about Ola's well-being and are working with authorities to locate her."

The police have launched an investigation into Ola's disappearance and Area Mama's murder.

Human rights activists have condemned the violence and persecution faced by Nigeria's LGBTQ+ community, calling for greater protection and support.

Ola's disappearance serves as a grim reminder of the dangers faced by marginalized individuals in Nigeria.

As the search for her continues, friends, family, and colleagues hold onto hope for her safe return.

CrimeHomosexuality: Man Escapes Death As Angry Mob Attacks Home by newshunterniger(op): 7:00pm On Aug 23, 2024
A wave of tension has swept through the Somolu Bariga community in Lagos State following the alleged discovery of a man identified as Junaidu Babatunde Ganiyu engaging in homosexuality, sparking a volatile reaction among residents.

The incident, which happened on July 27, 2024, around 11:30 pm reportedly led to agitations and protests from residents of the Bariga community, a highly populated part of Lagos State and one of the ancient towns that accommodate people from all walks of life.

It was gathered that the commotion began when a neighbour caught Ganiyu having sex with his bi-sexual partner identified as Taiwo Ogundele at his private residence.

According to eyewitnesses, emotions ran high as word spread rapidly throughout the community, triggering a swift and intense reaction from a segment of the population.

A mob quickly gathered outside the residence where the alleged incident occurred, chanting slogans and demanding justice. Amidst the uproar, the atmosphere grew increasingly charged with accusations and condemnations directed towards the individual involved.

Stones were hurled at windows, and attempts were made to forcibly enter the premises.

Our correspondent reliably gathered that the reported case has led the entire community to consider expelling individuals involved in the alleged act.

Speaking on condition of anonymity due to security concerns, some residents disclosed that this incident was not the first time such behaviour had been sensed in their community.

They cited previous instances where similar suspicions arose but lacked concrete proof.

The residents expressed relief that tangible evidence had emerged, noting that the discovery of what they perceive as compelling evidence has galvanised community members into considering drastic actions, including expulsion of those implicated in the alleged act.

One of the residents simply identified as Oluwatosin said, "I was so surprised when Musa broke out the news about Ganiyu and Taiwo Ogundele.

“The act being displayed is not only barbaric but also sinful.”

Ganiyu's wife, Shakirat told our correspondent that her husband is traumatised and faced a lot of physical assault since the news broke out.

She lamented, “Even though, I hate the behaviour of my husband and what he was caught doing. The ill-treatment he has faced since the story broke out is really painful to me as his wife. Now, he needs more care and support than I could imagine.”

Several efforts to reach out to Taiwo Ogundele were not successful as he did not pick up his known number, and his whereabouts could not be ascertained.

When contacted, Ganiyu narrated his ordeal, explaining that the incident was the most terrible situation of his life.

While urging Nigeria youths to desist from jungle justice and follow the Western world mode of conduct in handling situations, he added, “I have travelled out of the country and I have seen how people reason and behave, it is this exposure that rekindles my long time want and love

“I should not be crucified nor banished for doing what I love without causing violence or chaos.”

In 2014, the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act became law in Nigeria, and a new 14-year prison sentence was introduced for anyone caught entering into a same-sex marriage contract or civil union.

It also criminalised public displays of affection between same-sex couples, imposing a 10-year prison sentence on those who "directly or indirectly make [a] public show of [a] same-sex amorous relationship".

It banned gay clubs, introducing a 10-year prison sentence for anyone who registers, operates, or participates in gay clubs, societies, and organisations, including supporters of those groups.

The passing of the law had widespread support, according to surveys, and meant Nigeria had some of the strictest laws against homosexuality in Africa.

The new law, according to a report by Human Rights Watch "officially authorised abuses against LGBT people, effectively making a bad situation worse".

In 2014, media reports of violence, mob justice and extortion against LGBT people were common and activists say there has since been an explosion in kito cases since then.

CrimeCanada-based Nigerian fears return home over threats linked to EndSARS , others by newshunterniger(op):
A 32-year-old Nigerian man, Damilola Muyideen Olajire, is facing an uncertain future in Canada as his temporary immigration status nears expiration, while he says returning to Nigeria could put his life at risk.

Olajire, a former Lagos resident now living in Toronto, arrived in Canada in 2023 on a study permit. While the permit allows him to remain in the country for now, he says it offers no long-term security as threats he allegedly received in Nigeria continue to weigh heavily on him.

“Every day feels like waiting for a deadline I cannot meet,” Olajire said. “Going back is not an option for me.”

He traced his fears to two major events in his life in Lagos. The first relates to his involvement in the nationwide EndSARS protests of October 2020. According to him, shortly after the demonstrations, armed men visited his home and issued threats, identifying him by name and warning him to desist from activism.

The second issue, which he described as even more dangerous, stemmed from his decision to assist friends who were allegedly targeted because of their perceived sexual orientation. Olajire said he offered basic help such as transportation and temporary shelter, actions that later attracted hostility within his community.

“I was branded a ‘protector’ of gay people,” he said. “The threats came from neighbours and even people at the mosque, saying they would report me to the police or take matters into their own hands.”

He added that the situation escalated further in June 2023, and also after his departure for Canada, around June 2024 in Canada when , a former partner allegedly threatened to publicly accuse him of being bisexual as a form of retaliation after he married in Canada. Olajire said such an allegation could have severe consequences in parts of Lagos.

In Canada, Olajire is married to a Canadian citizen, but his spousal sponsorship application is still undergoing administrative processing. With his study permit nearing expiry, he says he remains stuck in what he described as a legal grey area.

“My lawyer is looking at options, but the truth is that I don’t feel safe going back,” he said. “Who protects you when the system itself is part of the problem?”

Human rights advocates say Olajire’s experience reflects broader risks faced by people perceived as allies of LGBTQ+ individuals in Nigeria, particularly under the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act.

“Those seen as supporters often face similar dangers, including extortion, mob attacks and criminalisation,” said Adebola Williams of the Abuja-based Rights Awareness Initiative. “When this is combined with past political activism, the risks are compounded, and state protection is often inadequate.”

For now, Olajire says he is focused on regularising his status in Canada and hopes his application will be resolved before his current permit expires.

“I just want to live safely with my wife,” he said. “That’s all I’m asking for.”

CrimeMan Cries Out As Family Threatening His Life Over Refusal To Join Egungun by newshunterniger(op):
A man, Isaac Oluwagbenga Omilani has raised the alarm over an alleged attempt by his family to force him to step into the shoes of his father as the leader of an Egungun deity.

Omilani expressed concern that despite resistance, his family led by one of his uncles identified as Chief Apena has allegedly continued to harass, molest and threaten him.

He also insisted that the family was allegedly responsible for the death of his elder brother who reportedly died mysteriously after he refused to join the worship of the deity.

Egungun is a deity with a colourful dress, it is one of the greatest divinities in the land of Yoruba. Egungun in the broadest sense is any Yoruba masquerade or masked, costumed figure.

It is one of the deities with the largest followers in Yorubaland and Africa at large.

Omilani who claimed his father was one of the foremost leaders of deity in Africa before his death, added that his uncle alongside some other family members allegedly attacked him with charms and thugs.

He complained that he and his family now live in panic and anxiety as they fear they could be attacked spiritually by the Egungun adherents.

Omilani added that he had to go into hiding with his wife when nothing could be done to stop the Egungun adherents from disturbing them.

He also said his house was ransacked, and his properties were destroyed.

He also lamented that even after running to hide at his mother-in-law's residence, the Egungun adherents invaded the house and he had to join through the fence which led to him having a fracture on his left leg.

He further explained, "Isaac Oluwagbenga Omilani of 73 Ajo Unit 1, Oluyole Local government area of Oyo State, I was born into a family where the religion's belief is firmly established in the African Traditional religious worship, to be precise worship of the Egungun deity.

"During my father's lifetime, he was an ardent worshiper and he ensured all his children worship this Egungun deity.

"My father tied our rights such as Education, Clothing, Feeding and general necessities of life to our commitment to the worship of this Egungun deity, the prominence of my father as a religious head i.e The Chief Oje Priest was well pronounced in Sango where we are domiciled and in Africa as a continent.

"This status made him relentless in getting a successor to step into his shoes on his demise.

"However, I did approach my father sometime in the year 1990 that I could no longer worship the Egungun deity and that my religious conviction is towards the Christian faith, this statement made my father get angry with me, he said shouted at me and order me to leave his presence.

"When I was in secondary school, I was then a homosexual and Chief Apena my uncle who is the head of our tradition told my father it's a taboo, that I have committed an abomination and we will need to appease the gods with sacrifice.

"He said the vengeance of the gods will affect me and my generations. My father asked Chief Apena to let him know the components of sacrifice and my father bought everything needed for the sacrifice. The sacrifice was made while I was naked and my palm front was tied to my waist as I was asked to make some incantation before the deity."

On how his brother was killed, Omilani explained, “My elder brother stopped following us to worship Egungun because he has given his life to Jesus Christ.

"A year after my elder brother gave his life to Christ. I met a lady in my secondary school days who was my girlfriend and first love and introduced me to Christianity.

"When my father died, a couple of months later, Chief Apena called us and told my elder brother to step into my father's position at the Egungun deity.

"Instantly, my brother told him he is a Christian. The Bible never taught him to believe in another god except Almighty God. He also said there is a clear difference between light and darkness. He should count him out.

"Chief Apena was angry, and he said he gave him seven days to think about it. My brother never went back to him. My brother fell sick and his legs were swollen, we ended up taking him to the hospital where we realized he couldn't walk again.

"He was diagnosed and nothing was discovered as both legs kept swollen like elephantiasis. Eventually, he died as blood came out of his nose, ear, and mouth at the hospital and he was buried."

Speaking on several attacks on him over refusal to join the worshipping of Egungun, Omilani said, "On the 13th November 2023, I was confronted by some leadership of the Egungun deity who is titled Chief Oluwo Ifa, The Apena, The Ilado and Asipa Awo on this encounter they all told me they had a message for me and the message was I should trace my steps back into my family religion, which is the worship of Egungun deity or else I will face serious repercussions.

"I told them that I had made up my mind and that I am now a Christian and my religious conviction is towards the Christian religion. They were all disappointed by my response, but they vowed that they will teach me a lesson.

"On the 14th of November, 2023, I was accosted by four hefty men with charms around their necks and wrists. They made incantations and asked me to follow them to Egungun Shrine, I refused and told them that I am now a Christian and I will not step into a shrine of any deity.

"At this point, I was equally overwhelmed and devastated by this atrocity and I thought of relocating to other African countries, but it was obvious that Egungun deity is widely an African deity and that there was no way I could escape the repercussions of these priests.

"On the 15th day of November, 2023, I had an attack in my residence, at Ibadan; my properties were destroyed and a lot of my belongings were stolen while I did sustain numerous injuries. After this incident, I ran for my dear life to hide myself in my mother-in-law's place at Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

"On the 16th of November, 2023, I encountered another set of adherents of the Egungun religion who accosted me at my mother-in-law's house in Ibara Housing Estate Abeokuta and again asked me if I had renounced my adherence to the Christian religion, I told them I still hold on to my belief firmly and I have no reason to renounce it.

"They struck me severally with hard objects and told me that the next time they came, they would take my life having failed to yield to their demands, as God will have it, I was able to escape from their midst as I jumped through my mother inlaw neighbour's fence and ran into a ditch I had a fracture on my left leg. I was subsequently rushed to the General Hospital at Sokenu Abeokuta where I received Emergency treatment."

A copy of the Police report signed by the Divisional Police Officer of Ibara police station, CSP Habib Dada and obtained by our correspondent confirmed an attack on Omilani by the Egungun adherents.

The DPO noted in the letter dated 4 December 2023 that efforts are ongoing to ensure the arrest of the Egungun adherents and subsequent charges to court.

It was however gathered that the adherents were yet to be arrested as at the time this report was filed.

Our correspondent also obtained an affidavit disposed of by the Chairman of Aderukpo Drive Community Development Association, Bankole Kesi where he confirmed an attack on Omilani and his family.

Kesi in the affidavit said the hoodlums that invaded Oladosu's mother-in-law's home were armed with guns, cutlasses and other dangerous objects.

"I am the chairman of Aderupoko Drive Community Development Association.

"My duties are to oversee the activities and the progress of my community and to ensure that every land owner is given equal opportunities

"On the 16th November 2023 at about 10:25 pm some hoodlums came to our community with guns, cutlasses and other suspected dangerous objects. These people held straight to Mrs Adegbenro Olufunke and attacked her and her son-in-law.

"They (Omilani and his mother-in-law) both sustained injuries and were rushed to General Hospital, Sokenu Abeokuta for treatment.”
CrimeBusinesswoman, Children In Hiding As Kidnappers Hold Husband Captive Over Ransom by newshunterniger(op): 3:59pm On May 23, 2024
The family of Adeniran has gone into hiding, following the continuous abduction of Mojeed Adelaja Adeniran by suspected kidnappers despite releasing his wife, Mutiat Omolabake Adeniran and their children, Maryam Adejoke Adeniran and Mustapha Adetunji Adeniran.

It was gathered that Mutiat, a local businesswoman, was abducted with her entire family on December 27, 2023, during a visit to a community in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The abduction of the family was part of kidnapping incidents witnessed by residents of Alimosho LG where more than 20 residents were forcefully taken by gunmen.

Recalled that two communities in Alimosho LG cried out over the high rate of kidnapping, appealing for the Federal Government’s intervention.

Speaking on the frequency with which kidnap syndicates operate unhindered in Egan, Igando and Ikotun communities, the Chairman, Olorufemi/Akinola Community Development Association, Mustapha Hassan, called for a more proactive approach, adding that security agencies seemed to be helpless.

He said over 20 cases have been reported in his CDA, with some cases reported to the police, while others were not reported for fear of reprisals.

It was learnt that the kidnappers demanded a ransom of 100 million naira from the Adeniran family before they could release those abducted.

The kidnappers, however, released Mutiat and her children on January 2, 2024, when a part payment of the ransom of about 50 million naira was paid, while still holding her husband due to remaining part of the ransom.

The family lamented that the kidnappers refused to release Mojeed, and also threatened to kidnap the released wife and children.

It was gathered that Mutiat, along with her children, are now in hiding, fearing for their lives while desperately trying to secure the safe return of her husband.

Speaking exclusively with our correspondent, Mutiat said the fear of further retaliation has forced her to go into hiding with the children, lamenting that they are in an emotional and psychological distress.

She noted that the family fears that the kidnappers will make good on their threats to abduct them again if the remaining ransom is not paid.

Even though the family is now in hiding, Mutiat said she fears that their freedom may be short-lived.

She added that the kidnappers have been in contact, threatening to take her and the children again if they don’t pay the balance of the ransom.

Speaking of her experience during her time with the kidnappers, she narrated, “They blindfolded and gagged me before throwing me into the trunk of a car. I didn't know where they were taking me."

"I'm still living in fear, but our priority is the safe return of my husband

"We are cooperating with the authorities and doing everything in our power to meet the demands, but we also appeal to the kidnappers to show mercy and release him unharmed.

"I can't sleep, I can't eat. I am so worried about my husband, and now I am afraid they'll come for us again."

"I just want my family back together," she said, her eyes brimming with tears. "I want this nightmare to end."

CrimeTensions Rise As Family Of Six Flees Village Amidst Egungun Worship Dispute by newshunterniger(op): 3:42pm On Apr 19, 2024
In Bamgbade, a small village located in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, the Ajayi family of six has been forced to go into hiding after refusing to join the Egungun worshiping cult, a traditional Yoruba religious practice.

Olusola Francis Ajayi and his wife, Olawumi Francisca Ajayi, along with their children; Oyinkansola Cherish, Ayokunle Desire, Iretomide Treasure, and Lucy Ajayi, have reportedly been subjected to intense pressure and threats from community members and local leaders since their refusal to partake in the revered religious ceremony.

Egungun worship, deeply ingrained in the cultural fabric of the community, involves the veneration of ancestral spirits through elaborate rituals and ceremonies. For generations, it has been a central aspect of community life, with participation viewed as both a sacred duty and a mark of respect for one's lineage.

However, the Ajayi family's decision to abstain from the practice has sparked outrage and condemnation among their neighbours, who view their refusal as a direct affront to tradition and an act of disrespect towards their ancestors.

Speaking to newsmen, Olusola Francis Ajayi lamented that his family were harassed and threatened by members of the cult for their refusal to participate in the worship rituals, which involve donning elaborate costumes and masks and performing various ceremonial activities.

He lamented that his family has now gone into hiding in an undisclosed location to protect themselves from further harassment and potential harm.

He stated that the family's decision to leave their home has not only disrupted their daily lives but also caused significant distress and fear.

Ajayi visibly distraught by the situation, expressed his concern for the safety and well-being of his family, emphasising the difficulty of their predicament.

"We have always been a peaceful and respectful family, but now we are being persecuted for simply wanting to practice our faith. We are afraid for our lives and the safety of our children.

"Egungun worship is a deeply rooted tradition in our community, and we respect that," Ajayi explained. "However, as a family, we made a conscious decision not to participate due to our personal beliefs and convictions."

He continued, "We did not intend to disrespect our ancestors or the traditions of our community. We simply wished to exercise our right to follow our path."

"Fearing for the safety and well-being of my family, we had no choice but to seek refuge in hiding," Ajayi revealed. "It has been a challenging time for us, not knowing when it will be safe to return home."

PoliticsTinubu @ 72: Be Wary Of Saboteurs, APC Stalwart Warns President by newshunterniger(op): 12:02pm On Mar 30, 2024
A stalwart of the All Progressives Congress, Honorable Kikelomo Ikuomola has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his 72nd birthday, warning him to be careful of people that may want to sabotage his efforts.

Ikuomola in a congratulatory message to the President noted that Tinubu is the right man to lead the country at this period of economic crisis among other issues bedeviling the nation.

While describing Tinubu as a democrat and visionary leader who is passionately committed to better Nigeria, the APC stalwart urged the president to rely on God and not give room for any cabal to take over his government.

"Tinubu would be the first Nigerian president that emerge without support from any godfather, but the support of God. He should rely on God that made him emerge as the president despite all the steps to trauncate his ambition by some enemies within and outside APC.

"The President needs to rely on God because Almighty God is more powerful than the cabals. The President should not dance to the tune of people against the development of the country.

"Everybody loves his policy and we are sure these policies would take the country to greater heights.

"He should do everything he can, to crush anyone that is not allowing people to breathe," she noted.

PoliticsNNPP Accuses Kwankwaso's Faction Of Planning Illegal Convention, Heads To Court by newshunterniger(op): 11:10pm On Mar 24, 2024
The New Nigeria Peoples Party, has asked the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja to stop an alleged illegal national convention planned by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso's faction of the party.

In a suit; FHC/ABJ/CS /327/2024 and obtained by our correspondent on Sunday, the party accused the Kwankwaso's faction led by Abba Kawu and Dipo Olayoku of attempting to sabotage its activities and hijack the NNPP leadership.

The party also petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Department of State Security and Nigerian Police Force to intervene by preventing "any breach of peace that the illegal congresses and convention by Kwankwaso's group may eventually led to."

In the suit filed by the Board of Trustee led by Temitope Aluko, the party insisted that Kawu and Olayoku remained expelled and their National Working Committee dissolved according to the constitution of NNPP.

The NNPP BOT in the suit maintained that Kawu and Olayoku are no longer qualified to exercise the power of National Chairman and National Secretary due to their expulsion and dissolution of the NWC they superintendent.

"According to the information on the table of New Nigeria Peoples Party, it's only Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso that is in Court battling to upturn his expulsion. NNPP's record clearly showed that Kawu and Olayoku of Kwankwaso's led faction remained expelled and the NWC they led dissolved.

"Therefore any action taking by these two expelled officers are "ultra vires," the suit reads partly.

Meanwhile, the NNPP Lawyer, Monday Mawah in a petition to INEC National Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu asked him to disregard the "notice of Congress/Convention hurriedly rescheduled for March 23rd to March 26 by the illegal NWC led by Kawu/ Olayoku."

Mawah in the petition urged the electoral body as an independent umpire to stay clear of the planned illegal convention pending the determination of the matter in court.

The petition further stated, "We are Counsel to the Plaintiffs in the above mentioned suit between the above parties

"Please be informed that the above suit is instituted on behalf of the Plaintiffs over the proposed purported congresses and convention.

"The Plaintiffs have engaged our service to challenge the said purported notice and we have accordingly filed originating summons, Motion on Notice for interlocutory Injunction, interim Injunction before the Federal High Court.

"We are by this notice notifying the commission not to get involved in the illegal congresses and convention proposed to hold from 23rd to the 26th of March 2024.

"The commission as a law abiding agent of the Federal Government is advised not to get involve in the proposed congresses in view of the pending suit."

The NNPP lawyer also asked the DSS and police to investigate the allegations of illegal activities by the Kwankwaso faction.

While urging the security agencies to prevent the illegal convention from taking place, the National Secretary of NNPP, Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday also stated that there is a need for the highest security agencies to prevent any breach of Peace that may result from the illegal activities of the Kwankwaso's group.

Recognizing the Security Challenges Our Country is facing today, Comrade Oginni emphasized that the protection of rights and safety of NNPP members are sacrosanct and far above any individual interest or ambition. Therefore, the Department of State Security Services and Nigeria Police should nip any attempt to breach the National Peace in the bud.

An undergraduate student at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, AbdulQuadri Olamilekan Tijani, has raised the alarm over an alleged threat to his life by some suspected cult group.

Tijani in a petition written to the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, and obtained by newsmen, alleged that he has been harassed and threatened by a group of students whom he believes to be Aiye fraternity members, demanding that he join their cult.

The 19-year-old undergraduate lamented that the suspected cult members have been harassing him both on and off campus.

He added that he has received threatening phone calls and text messages, and has seen people who he believes to be cult members lurking around his dormitory.

The student, who has since fled into hiding out of concern for his safety, recounted how the cult members first approached him about joining them four months ago.

He stated that he was pressured and threatened to consider joining the cult group, but ultimately decided against it.

Since then, he lamented that the cult members have become increasingly aggressive in their attempts to force him to join.

He, however, said things got more difficult when one of his friends who was threatened to join was killed, while his corpse was dumped at the nearby stream in the Abeokuta area of the state.

The student said he had no idea why he was being targeted, urging the police boss to investigate the allegation.

While expressing readiness to cooperate with police for investigation, Tijani said he is currently hiding because his life and anyone around him is at stake.

The petition read partly, “I fear for my safety is why I am writing this petition to you, sir. Please come to my aid, I have been living in fear since a friend who was forced to join was killed some weeks ago.

"I was first approached by the cult group last year. They told me that if I joined, they would help me get ahead in life. But I knew that joining a cult was wrong, and I didn't want to do it. Since then, they have been threatening me and making my life miserable. I'm scared for my life.

“The cult group has been pressuring me to join, and I have been receiving threats. I had to abandon my house in Abeokuta to go somewhere far away to hide until the people behind this were arrested.

“I am ready to provide information that will help the Police in getting these people arrested because I fear for my life.

“I am living with the constant fear that the cult group will find me and harm me. I am also struggling with the psychological effects of living in such fear.

"I had to move frequently, as the cult group has tried to track me down. I feel like I am being hunted, and that I have no way to escape. This is why I decided to write the police about this so that you can come to my aid.

"It is not just my life that has been affected, my family has been through so much because of this. They are scared and worried about me. I don't want to put them through any more pain, but I don't know how

"I am just trying to get through each day, but it's hard to live like this. Every time I hear a noise outside my window, I jump. I am always on edge, and I can't focus on anything else. I just want to get my life back, but I don't know how,” he expressed concern.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed that its operatives had arrested 11 suspects over the cult clashes in different parts of Abeokuta, the state capital which claimed four lives.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, Omolola Odutola, disclosed this to newsmen in a statement on February 16, 2023.

Odutola said one Seun Elewode, a member of the Aye cult group, was killed during a shootout between rival cult groups in the Adeun area of Lafenwa, Abeokuta.

According to her, a suspected member of the Buccaneer Confraternity was killed in the Akinolugbade area of the town.

“One Seun Elewode, a notorious member of the Aye cult group, who just returned from prison, was attacked and shot dead at Adeun, Lafenwa in Abeokuta.

Jobs/VacanciesPlusworld Roofing Academy Begins 2024 Training, Aims To Shape Nigeria’s Roofing by newshunterniger(op): 7:43am On Mar 15, 2024
Nigeria’s leading provider of roofing solutions and restoration services, Plusworld Roofing, has announced its training schedule for 2024, with the goal of shaping the future of roofing in the country.

The academy, which was established by a Chartered project management professional, Dr. John Igbaifua offers a range of courses designed to teach people about the latest roofing technologies and techniques.

In a statement made available to newsmen, the academy's founder, Igbaifua said, 'We believe that by educating and training roofers in the latest technologies and techniques, we can help to improve the quality of roofing in Nigeria and create a better future for our communities.'

The academy's training courses will cover topics such as design, materials, installation, and maintenance. Trainees will be able to choose from a range of course levels, from beginner to advanced.

In addition to the training, the academy is also working to promote roofing as a career option in Nigeria. It has partnered with several organisations to create awareness about the benefits of a career in roofing. The goal is to encourage more people, especially young people, to consider a career in this field.

The academy is expected to bridge the skills gap in the roofing sector by offering comprehensive training programs for aspiring roofers, contractors, and industry professionals.

With its comprehensive curriculum, state-of-the-art facilities, and mentorship opportunities, the academy is poised to shape the future of roofing in Nigeria and beyond.

Igbaifua noted that the academy is not just a training institution, but a catalyst for transformation and excellence in the roofing profession.

He added that the roofing industry in Nigeria plays a crucial role in the construction sector, providing shelter, protection, and structural integrity to buildings across the country.

He lamented that despite its importance, the industry faces significant challenges related to a shortage of skilled labor and a lack of formal training opportunities.

He said Plusworld Roofing took proactive steps to establish the country’s first roofing academy to tackle some of the issues facing the roofing industry.

“As a result of offering specialized training programs, the academy aims to equip individuals with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience needed to excel in the roofing profession,” he stated

On how Plusworld Roofing would help bridge the skills gap, Igbaifua said the academy would be offering a comprehensive curriculum that covers all aspects of roofing, including installation techniques, safety protocols, material selection, and project management.

“The roofing industry in Nigeria has long faced challenges related to a shortage of skilled labor and a lack of formal training opportunities.

He further stated that students would undergo rigorous training led by industry experts and seasoned professionals, adding that they also gain practical insights and real-world experience that prepare them for success in the field.

“The academy boasts state-of-the-art training facilities equipped with the latest tools, equipment, and technologies used in the roofing industry. From mock roof installations to hands-on workshops, students have access to immersive learning experiences that simulate real-world scenarios and prepare them for the challenges of the job.

“Students at the Plusworld Roofing Academy benefit from hands-on learning opportunities that allow them to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings. Through supervised installations, repair projects, and site visits, students gain valuable experience and confidence in their abilities as roofing professionals.

“The academy’s curriculum is designed in collaboration with industry experts and tailored to meet the evolving needs of the roofing sector. Students learn about the latest trends, techniques, and best practices in roofing, ensuring that they are well-equipped to tackle the demands of the job market upon graduation.

“In addition to technical training, students at the Plusworld Roofing Academy receive mentorship and guidance from experienced professionals in the field. Mentors provide valuable insights, career advice, and networking opportunities that help students build connections and advance their careers in the roofing industry,” he noted.

He, however, insisted that the primary factor contributing to the skills gap in the roofing industry is the limited access to formal training programs.

According to him, unlike other trades such as plumbing or electrical work, few institutions in Nigeria offer specialised training in roofing techniques, materials, and safety protocols. As a result, aspiring roofers often lack the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in the field.

“In the absence of formal training programs, many individuals enter the roofing profession through informal apprenticeships or on-the-job training. While these arrangements can provide valuable hands-on experience, they often lack a structured curriculum, mentorship, and oversight. As a result, apprentices may struggle to acquire comprehensive skills and may be unaware of industry best practices.

“The roofing industry is constantly evolving, with new materials, techniques, and technologies emerging to meet the demands of modern construction projects. However, many roofing professionals in Nigeria may not have access to training on these advancements, leading to a skills gap between traditional practices and innovative solutions. Without ongoing education and professional development, roofers may struggle to keep pace with industry trends and remain competitive in the market.”

The Plusworld Roofing Academy founder said there is a need for the government to implement strategic initiatives such as formal training programs, apprenticeship opportunities, continuing education, and industry collaboration that can help address challenges and build a skilled and resilient workforce for the future.

He stressed, “With a concerted effort to invest in training and development, the roofing industry in Nigeria can thrive and contribute to the country’s economic growth and infrastructure development

“To address the skills gap in the roofing industry, stakeholders must prioritise the establishment of formal training programs that provide comprehensive education and practical experience.

“This includes collaborating with vocational schools, technical institutes, and industry associations to develop curriculum, provide instructor training, and ensure accreditation of training programs.

“In addition to formal training programs, promoting apprenticeship opportunities can help bridge the skills gap by providing aspiring roofers with hands-on experience under the guidance of experienced professionals. Employers can establish apprenticeship programs within their companies, offering structured training, mentorship, and career development opportunities for entry-level workers.

“To keep pace with technological advancements and industry trends, roofing professionals must prioritize continuing education and professional development. This includes attending workshops, seminars, and trade shows, as well as pursuing certifications and specialized training in areas such as green roofing, solar installation, and safety compliance.

“Addressing the skills gap in the roofing industry requires collaboration among stakeholders, including government agencies, educational institutions, industry associations, and employers. By working together to identify challenges, share resources, and implement solutions, stakeholders can create a more robust and sustainable workforce pipeline for the roofing sector.”

BusinessPlusworld Roofing Academy Begins 2024 Training, Aims To Shape Nigeria’s Roofing by newshunterniger(op): 7:29am On Mar 15, 2024

PoliticsEstablish A Vocational Centre In Your Village First- Residents Tell Mcgregor by newshunterniger(op): 12:17pm On Oct 29, 2023
The Indigenous people of Orile Ilawo in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State have raised the alarm over the alleged ploy by the “politically appointed” monarch, Alexander McGregor proposing to establish a vocational centre in Orile Ilawo as a ploy to take over their ancestral lands.

The indigenous people of Orile Ilawo sent strong warnings to Macgregor to desist from any alleged agenda to steal their lands, stressing that the residents and indigenous families would never allow such to happen.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday at a grand community meeting held in ALAGBAGBA, the Ilawo people alleged the embattled monarch of planning to hijack people's land through different illegal means. These proposals are advanced by the same interests, and pursue the same ends- Taking our ancestral lands.

While commending the initiative to establishing a vocational centre, the Ilawo residents insisted that the embattled monarch should find where his own family land is located first, and if non existent, follow due process and secure land from original owners to establish such idea. They stressed that trying to use veto power to forcefully take over people's land by referring to ancestral lands as communal lands for such an initiative would be rejected by the residents vehemently.

The locals added that this had always been the agenda of the newly installed monarch and the purpose for which he allegedly “hijacked” the process in order to become king. We won’t be deceived. The locals added.

It was gathered that the obaship tussle in the community has been lingering for the past two years amid litigations from the parties concerned. There are several court cases pending before the high courts of Ogun State.

The community leaders called on the Inspector General of Police, the Ogun State Government and all security outfits in the state to prevent an imminent total breakdown of law and order by calling Macgregor to order.

“Respecting our rights to self-determination and to our ancestral domain, in which our identities are anchored cannot be overemphasized. This new ploy in the form of a proposal to establish a vocational school is clearly to penetrate the domains of our Orile and have express powers to develop any land and of course, we know it is ultimate ploy to grab people’s possession. It will never happen. “ Chief Kunle Egbeyemi added.

He further said, “Establishment of the proposed vocational training Centre is devoid of any iota of sincerity because we know the ultimate plan of this man. He is coming for our ancestral lands and he should be assured of getting tied up in litigation till Jesus comes.”

Eng. Obafemi Ogundele, an Indigineous member of Orile Ilawo said, "This is where this monarch has got it completely wrong. We are not dumb in Orile Ilawo, we know his plans, our people know their rights, we know his purpose, see why we have claimed from day one that this remains his ultimate agenda. What their past generation did to Ilawo in the past will never be allowed ever again. Gone are the days of stealing over 300 hectares of Ilawo arable land and converting it to a private property, a private farm that is, at the boundaries of Egba and Oyo in Babalaokuta, Igbo Ora area which is the adjoining boundary of Ilawo in Oke Ogun. We have all the documents and courts will adjudge.

"The good news is that we can continue to hold the line against these threats by making the politically appointed monarch understand that our community rightly view them as attacks on our ancestral lands.”

Mrs Opeyemi Famuyiwa noted, "the real question is, to what end is this monarch doing this? Why is he not establishing the proposed vocational school in his village first, that is if he even has any? I thought he said his ancestors have a village in Ilawo Ewekoro, he should go there Or better still, why is he not establishing the vocational school inside Ilawo Township where he has his palace and supporters? They need the school there much more than Orile.

"Every Egba indigine who has a house in town has a village. That idea is sacrosanct but this person has no village or lineage connecting it to any land in Orile Ilawo.

"This man is only trying to strategically take over our ancestral lands and it will be resisted in every way.

"I advise him not to waste his money or resources because it will be tied in litigation for years to come. More and more people from Orile Ilawo are awakened and informed thoroughly already, including those abroad.

"He should just use his resources to establish his plans in his village if he has any (We all know in Ilawo that this monarch family has no village or connection/by lineage to any village in Orile Ilawo).”

Our correspondent reached out to Chief Lawrence Ogunsanya who is also the Akogun of Ilawo, reacting, “Over the last few years, we’ve talked a lot about a movement we’ve called ”Ancestral Land Heist”, a plot led by the recent politically appointed monarch who wants to privatize control of our Indigenous lands for their own personal or political profit.

"So, I am not surprised about these proposals as they are advanced by the same interests, and pursue the same ends: taking your ancestral lands, and handing over ownership or control to a small group of would-be profiteers including himself. We know about the landed property company recently established, we have the details and know exactly what needs to be done.”

First, the good news. In one sense, we are winning. Over the last few months, we’ve beaten back the worst, most overt threats to privatize our ancestral lands or transfer them to their cronies.
Transferring acres of ancestral lands … is not something I think the majority of our people think is a good idea. These changes are happening because people across the homestead are speaking up and telling their families, nuclear and extended about the consequences. When they propose to take away the places that belong to all of us, they have gotten an earful, from farmers and climbers, hunters and anglers, and people of all political persuasions. So let’s keep it up.

“Now, the bad news. These neo-parasites aren’t giving up on gaining control of our ancestral lands, they’re just changing tactics like the proposed Vocational school. However, I can assure you that we would continue to hold the line against these threats by making everyone who cares to listen understand that our community rightly view them as attacks on our ancestral lands and it will not be allowed to pass.”

"We the people must stand up and protect our heritage and pass it on to all future generations. Those generations are counting on us.”

Prof Akin Sodipe, a known pharmacist based in the United States also called in via live sessions organized and submitted that he had been persuading the aggrieved youths in the Orile Ilawo community to calm down and not to cause unrest over the alleged Macgregors actions.

“I want to thank God that the youths have always listened to me each time they tried to engage in violence not to because that is what Macgregor wants to use in destabilizing the effort”.

“Two years of endurance in this type of case, which rarely comes by, is through the grace of God.

“In what may unfold next if the installed monarch fails to toe the path of peace and be law abiding, respecting indigenous peoples right to their lands, the existing peace that had hitherto been managed may explode,” he warned

CultureDon't Come Here, You Are Not Welcome In Orile Ilawo, Indigenes Warn Mcgregor by newshunterniger(op): 7:40am On Oct 20, 2023
Residents of Alagbagba in Orile Ilawo, Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State have warned the embattled monarch of the community, Alexander McGregor not to visit the area because he is not accepted as their traditional ruler.

Rumours are flying around in Orile Ilawo over an alleged plan by McGregor to visit Alagbagba and its environs.

But the planned visit has generated protest among residents of Ilawo who have threatened to resist the embattled monarch from getting into their communities.

The residents in a protest held on Thursday, maintained the coming of the monarch who is not accepted may lead to breach of public peace in Ilawo.

The residents were armed with placards and several banners placed at strategic entry points to Alagbagba with various inscriptions like; “Please, help us in ALAGBAGBA, our rights are being infringed”, “we don’t want political king in Orile Ilawo”, “kangaroo election process was done at Elegunmefa, follow the court process”, “we don’t want political king in Orile Ilawo”.

They explained that they are still aggrieved that McGregor was reportedly imposed on them by the state government.

They noted that any visit of the embattled monarch to the community would lead to chaos as youths have threatened to resist the king from entering Alagbagba.

The residents through their Baales insisted that McGregor "is not from the community and has no business to come to say he want to visit us".

While claiming that MacGregor is neither from the town, nor belong to any of the villages that make up Orile Ilawo, the protesters demanded that his appointment and installation be reversed by government.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, the Baale of Akibile Village, Chief Timothy Rotimi Adeleye said the installation of the new Oba was against the norms, customs and traditions of the land.

According to him the current king is not from the land.

He said, there is no family called Macgregor or Gbadamosi family in the whole of Orile Ilawo.

He added, "Also, come to think of it, what kind of king is a king crowned by unknown people who aren’t even chiefs from the community one wants to be king over ? You can check with every major ranking member of the Ilawo Council of chiefs. No one is on board with this “political king”.

“What is actually happening is that, we have an age long process, traditions, customs and norms to follow before anybody could be appointed as an Oba, but this processes were being eroded and all of a sudden, we heard that government had appointed somebody who is a ‘stranger’ to be our Oba”.

“He has no family, no house here, nothing whatsoever here. ”

Another resident, Chief Olaifa Ajimagbo stated that every one knows this politically-appointed monarch has a mission over our ancestral lands.

He said, "He and his advisers, particularly the suspended Osi of Ilawo, Chief Anthony Olufade, Wasiu Balogun and their other cohorts are targeting our lands and we have fully uncovered the plot.

"The plan is to annex our villages, and grab our ancestral lands and the monarch is purportedly masterminding the move to annex these villages.

"The irony of it all is that, none of these men, nor the monarch himself is from Orile Ilawo. None of them have any village or family connection to any of the hundreds of the villages in Orile Ilawo.

"We would do everything legally to hold them responsible for these excesses including those sold in the past behind original land owners. Suspended chiefs, Osi of Ilawo, Chief Anthony Olufade , Chief Diyaolu Oluwatosin (former and suspended Sakotun of Ilawo) , Mr Wasiu Balogun still has several amounts of unaccounted money from lands sold in recent past with fake surveys and documents and they have several pending petitions currently being investigated for prosecution based on recommendation of DPP."

PoliticsAlaafin Stool: Why Makinde Needs To Get Involved- Oyo Indigenes by newshunterniger(op): 1:51pm On Sep 24, 2023
A socio-cultural group, Oyo Omo-Alaafin in Diaspora has accused the Oyo traditional council of engaging in bribery and illegal selection process so as to allegedly favour a particular aspirant in becoming the new Alaafin of Oyo.

The group described the process the Oyo-Mesi is using in the selection of new Alaafin as a ruse and a pre-plan strategy to get their anointed candidate emerge as the new monarch of Oyo.

This was contained in a statement by the president of the group, Chief Adeoye Ladigbolu, which was made available to newsmen on Sunday.

Ladigbolu alleged that the Oyo chiefs collected millions from interested aspirants.

He noted that the Oyo-Mesi refused to consult the Oracle despite assuring all aspirants publicly.

He further accused the Oyo-Mesi of submitting a particular name without the knowledge of other aspirants.

He added, "When they announced the vacancy of the stool, I was also qualified to apply for the vacant stool. But because I am still very young and I am a busy person, I was ready to allow the most qualified take over.

"As a certified engineer, I decided to let go , but I know there are many leaders in Oyo that came from Agunloye family in Ladigbolu ruling house that can ascend the vacant stool. I believe we have many people that are capable .

"Alaafin stool is not meant for just ordinary person, the stool is meant for a man who is reliable with impeccable characters. The stool should be given to someone outspoken with good image, not someone that has a lot of secret in his cupboard.

"Oyo Alaafin stool is not just about the Oyo people, but the Ooduwa and it must be given to someone well respected with integrity.

"After all contestants for the Alaafin stool collected form of interest, the Oyo-Mesi publicly claimed they will consult the Oracle and it is the person chosen would be presented to the governor.

All the contestants agreed that they should consult the Oracle. Only for us to hear few days after that the Bashorun said they already have a consensus candidate. How can you have a consensus candidate when you said you want to consult Oracle.

"From investigation, we discovered that the Oyo-Mesi had sent a particular name to Ibadan as the consensus candidate.

"It is a slap on us because they did not consult any Oracle, they just want to impose on everyone.

"What the Oyo-Mesi is doing is not in order.”

The group, however, urged Governor Seyi Makinde to set up an investigative panel to unravel the alleged corruption and bribery reportedly going on in the Oyo traditional council.

He added, "Mr governor has said it openly that Oyo-Mesi did not use proper chanel for the selection. The selection process is wrong. The governor instructed them to use the proper chanel.

"We are appealing to the governor to set up a panel to investigate Oyo-Mesi. We learnt that they collected millions from interested aspirants. If they know this is not true, we challenge them to swear.

"We are calling on the governor to look into this matter, monitor the process and null all the kangaroo process in selecting new Alaafin.”

Meanwhile, Ladigbolu insisted that the Oyo Chiefs were deliberately misrepresenting the judgment of the court as regards the issue.

He explained that the court did not support the decision of Oyo-Mesi, but only noted that Ladigbolu ruling house suppose to write the government before going to court.

He added that the court did not support the selection process of the Oyo-Mesi, maintaining that the judgment is not in favour of the Oyo chiefs as reported.

The group, in a statement signed by its coordinator, Lekan Salman Ladigbolu, also called for a resolution so that a younger person from the lineage would be presented to the kingmakers.

PoliticsAlaafin Stool: Royal Family Begs Makinde Over Selection From Ladigbolu Lineage by newshunterniger(op): 5:40pm On Sep 06, 2023
Some concerned members of the Ladigbolu royal lineage of Agunloye's family in Oyo town, have appealed to Governor Oluseyi Makinde to use the same wisdom he applied while picking the new Soun of Ogbomoso in selecting who would be the next Alaafin

The group, in a statement signed by its coordinator, Lekan Salman Ladigbolu, also called for a resolution so that a younger person from the lineage would be presented to the kingmakers.

The group refuted the claims flying around that the family has anointed a candidate among those aspiring for the position of Alaafin of Oyo.

The youth also cautioned those aspiring to be Alaafin not to allow “their personal ego and selfish interest create a crack in the family”.

Eight members of the Ladigbolu family including Bishop Ayo Ladigbolu Abideen, Olaide Ladigbolu, Adewale Aderemi Ladigbolu, Akeem Aderibigbe Adigun Ladigbolu, Lukman Alabi Olugbenga Ladigbolu, Ayobami Ladigbolu, Kolade Sani Ladigbolu are vying for the throne of Alaafin.

The group’s coordinator noted that all aspirants from the family are eminently qualified but 'we will appreciate it better if the aged ones among them can step down and play advisory roles to the younger ones in the race

The statement added, "Oyo needs an Alaafin that will be an influential member of the society with a highly wired network and intelligence so that the historical community can enjoy rapid transformation in terms of infrastructural and economic development.”
