A tanker loaded with Petroleum Motor Spirit, PMS, on Thursday afternoon fell into a ditch along Onitsha/Enugu expressway by Chipex Filling station, Onitsha, spilling its product.

Though, there is no fire outbreak, but residents of Onitsha around the area have begun running away from the area to avoid an outbreak of fire.

As at the time of filling this report, PMS is still spilling out of the fallen tanker, a source said.

Four people have been arrested and are being detained in Adamawa State for allegedly being specialists in snatching commercial tricycles (Keke NAPEP) from owners.

DAILY POST learnt on Thursday that the state Police Command apprehended the four on October 27, 2019, after they inflicted injuries on one Keke NAPEP rider in the state capital, Yola, and made away with his Keke.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Sulaiman Nguroje, said of the incident, “The Command patrol team in Yola, in the night of October 27, apprehended four suspected armed robbers who specialise in snatching KeKe NAPEP after injuring or killing the rider.”

He said the Keke robbers nearly got their last victim killed by tying him around the neck.

“They tied the neck of the KeKe NAPEP driver with rope and pushed him out, but luckily, the rider survived,” Nguroje said.

Keke NAPEP, the only form of public intracity transport in Yola, is frequently used for criminal purposes.

A group of youths named Shilla Boys, routinely used Keke NAPEP to perpetuate crime until Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, on being sworn in on May 29, took measures that have largely curtailed the Shilla Boys’ menace.

Those arraigned alongside Bola Labinjo are:
Jonathan Abaka, Charles Ikemefuna Agaba, Benjamin Gold Gageche, Hamza Yakubu, Emmanuel Oputa, Peter Dung Pulle, Innocent Akpan, Kehinde Labinjo, Pius Mathew Paul, Onoja Musa Emmanuel Adeleke Hamed.

Others are a vessel and two companies namely: M.T. Adeline Jumbo, Global Shipping Activities Bureau Limited and Labland and Sea Services Limted.

The lady identified as Elizabeth Amoah, who has lived with this condition for years, has now decided to let the world know about it.
Elizabeth also known as ‘Special Lady’, spoke on 3FM’s Drive with Giovani Caleb, where she revealed she had to undergo seven medical surgeries after she was diagnosed with having sexual complications.

“I discovered I had a double womb and a double vagina canal in 2015 after an MRI scan, so I had to undergo about 7 surgeries,” she told Giovani Caleb.

The scan, according to her, also detected she had Endometriosis: a sexual disorder in which tissues linings of the uterus grows outside the uterus.

She explained having a double vagina means “having one vagina outside and the other inside”.

Newzandar reports that the victim, simply identified as Toyin, was brought to the herbalist’s house for treatment of undisclosed illness, but died there.
It was gathered that immediately the lady died, the herbalist contacted her family to come and take her for burial.

The Enugu State Governor and Governor-elect, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, on Monday, embarked on pre-contract inspection of roads within Enugu metropolis preparatory to immediate rehabilitation and reconstruction.

Gov. Ugwuanyi, who was accompanied by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Greg Nnaji, inspected the old UNTH road, Enugu; Ogidi street and Onyeama lane in Asata, Enugu amid jubilation and excitement from the residents, told them that now that the election is over he has come to inspect their roads for government’s intervention.

The governor, who used the opportunity to once again thank the elated people of the areas for their overwhelming support during the elections, appealed to them to cooperate with the contractors when the projects commence, saying: “I will continue to serve you with the fear of God”.

Gov. Ugwuanyi also inspected the ongoing reconstruction of Carter street, Asata, Enugu, which was awarded last week by his administration. He equally inspected the erosion menace at Okwuosa bridge, Ogui, Enugu and promised his administration’s swift intervention.

It would be recalled that the governor in his acceptance speech after his reelection, declared that “now is the time to get back to work”, pledging “to devote our energies and time to work harder for the wellbeing and prosperity of all our people”.

According to him, “I hereby reaffirm that we will continue to serve you with the fear of God, with humility and an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of our people and lifting the state to unprecedented heights of development and progress.
“Now is the time to get back to work. We are inspired by the sacrifices and support of our people in renewing our mandate. I am confident that by the special grace of God and with your continuing cooperation and prayers, all things concerning Enugu State will continue to end in praise”.

Gov. More children were rescued from the rubbles of the school building that collapsed at the Itafuji area of Lagos Island in Lagos state earlier today.

The state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, who has since visited the scene of the incident, commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives in this collapsed building.

“THE FIRST OBSERVATION IS THAT THIS IS AN OLD BUILDING AND IT IS ONLY THE PENT HOUSE AND THE OTHER FLOORS THAT WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO USE TO RESCUE PEOPLE. SO FAR, FROM WHAT I HAVE BEEN BRIEFED ALSO, WE HAVE RESCUED ABOUT 25 PEOPLE AND SOME ALREADY DEAD BUT WE WERE EARLIER INFORMED THAT IT WAS A SCHOOL, THE BUILDING IS NOT TECHNICALLY A SCHOOL, IT IS A RESIDENTIAL BUILDING THAT WAS ACTUALLY ACCOMMODATING AN ILLEGAL SCHOOL.

“ALL WE ARE TRYING TO DO IS TO CONTINUE THIS OPERATION. OUR RESPONSE UNIT ARE ALREADY HERE; WE ARE GETTING ADDITIONAL CRANES TO BE ABLE TO GO DEEPER THAN WHERE WE ARE NOW TO RESCUE MORE LIVES. American Congressman, Gerald Connolly, has bemoaned manipulation of elections in Nigeria, claiming they were a sham and not credible.

At an interactive session yesterday with constituents from Virginia who paid him a visit on Capitol Hill, the Democratic congressman and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee had been asked questions about Nigeria and Venezuela.
The United States lawmaker made the remarks about Nigeria’s elections when he was responding to a question from international human rights lawyer, Emmanuel Ogebe who asked what the US was doing about ISIS relocation to Nigeria where they abducted Leah Sharibu and the recent presidential elections.

Congressman Connolly said that many observers agree that the Nigerian elections were not credible.

He said that the US must do more and wasn’t doing enough as a beacon of democracy and human rights.

“There were a lot of observers who would agree with you that the recent presidential/National Assembly elections were a sham and were not honest and did not produce legitimate results. Are there enough people who care about that to speak out? …We have to do a better job of paying much more attention to Africa… Africa is going to be the continent of the future.”

He lamented the activities of Boko Haram, Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups on the African continent and said the US was not paying adequate attention to Africa.

He also raised concerns on growing Chinese influence in the region.

Responding to another question, he said: “Elections are being stolen in Nigeria”.

The governorship election will not hold in seven states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)

The affected states, Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Ekiti, Kogi, Ondo and Osun, will not be participating because their governorship elections held at different times.



This was mainly due to court judgments that nullified the elections of their governors at different times in the past.

However, the State Houses of Assembly elections will be conducted in all the 36 states.

The FCT will not witness both elections because it is run by a minister, who is appointed by the President, with laws made by the National Assembly.

But Saturday will witness election of new chairmen and councillors in the six Area Councils of the territory, namely Abaji, Abuja Municipal, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje and Kwali.

An old man in the United Kingdom ate half a bucket of paint after mistaking it for yogurt.

The man, identified as Bobby, became a viral sensation after his granddaughter shared a photo to Twitter.
“Sooo my grandpa ate half a quart of paint today thinking it was yogurt,” Alex Stein wrote on Twitter.
Luckily, ingesting the chemical didn’t have a life-threatening effect on him.

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), has said that Senate President Bukola Saraki’s political career has been buried with his recent defeat.

Oshiomhole stated this on Wednesday while fielding questions from State House correspondents after a congratulatory visit to President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said: “But let me also say, to be honest, as much as we want to be magnanimous in victory, there are a couple of things that happened that show that Nigerian people know who to reward and they know the appropriate time to punish those who are extremely arrogant.

“Those who came to the Senate with less than a hundred thousand votes and began to hold the country to ransom, their own people have recalled them.

“While we are saying we will impeach them, their people said no, they will rather bury them; politically now, they are out; it shows the power of democracy; it is a leveler; it is an equaliser.

Ambassador Yahaya Kwande, a close associate of the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has urged the ex-Vice President to toes the path of honour by congratulating President Muhammadu Buhari over his ‘victory’ in the Saturday’s Presidential election.

Although, INEC is yet to make any official declaration, but Buhari is said to be leading with over 4 million votes in the results so far announced.
Kwande, who is also the Grand Patron, Wazirin of Adamawa Solidarity Vanguard, gave this advice in a statement made available to Newzandar Tuesday evening.

Kwande, who insisted that he has been a long associate of the PDP candidate, declared that the results so far released have shown that Nigerians have elected Buhari for another four years, hence, Abubakar should do the needful by making a call and congratulate the newly elected President.

The elder statesman, who recalled with nostalgia how the then incumbent President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan made a call to congratulate Buhari in 2015 when he discovered that Buhari was the one winning, maintained that Atiku Abubakar should emulate the good gesture of Jonathan.

Kwande in the statement entitled, “Alhaji Atiku Abubakar please make that phone call now”, said, “Results so far announced from Saturday’s Presidential Election have confirmed the choice made by Nigerians.

“They have resoundingly elected President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the election.

“Even though I am a long time friend and associate of his closest rival, His Excellency Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I heartily congratulate President Buhari for his win and the confidence Nigerians reposed in him by asking him to serve another four years in office.

“By the same token, I call on my friend, associate and brother, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to pick up his phone and make the call to congratulate the President-elect.

The leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has said the country have witnessed yet another fraudulent election.

According to Kanu, Nigeria is not designed to respect the will of the people through the ballot box.

A good number of the members of National Youth Service Corp members, has been left stranded in the streets of Lagos after the announcement of rescheduling the 2019 general election.

The coppers who were prepared and ready to serve as Adhoc Staffs were found sleeping in a bus.
Some slept on the road due to lack of accommodation.

The presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Muhammadu Buhari, has bragged that nobody can Unseat him.

Buhari said this while in an interview with CNN today.
Buhari, who defeated the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan four years ago, was asked if he felt the same fate could befall him.

No, nobody will unseat me,” he replied tersely.

“The president was also asked if he has stamina for another four years, to which he responded: “Yes, I am ready for it”.

Buhari’s major opponent is former vice-president Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Prof. Monday Igbafen, the Chairman of Ambrose Alli University (AAU) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has been suspended by university authorities over allegations of sexual assault.

Igbafen, an Associate Professor of the Department of Philosophy, was suspended after his appearance before a disciplinary committee on allegations of sexual misconduct.

This was made public in a statement signed by Edward Aihevba, the university’s spokesman, on Wednesday in Benin, Edo State capital.

The statement noted that Igbafen had been arraigned before the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee (SSDC) on allegations of gross misconduct bordering on sexual harassment and threatening students to have sex with him in exchange for marks.

According to the statement, Igbafen was found culpable by the university’s investigative panel.

A relative of one of the victims had threatened to take the institution to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission ICPC if Igbafen wasn’t prosecuted.

Over 18 roads would be shut down as the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress Party would be hosting their presidential election campaign in Lagos state.

The Lagos state government, has given a directive that would prevent road users from accessing eighteen different roads in the state.



The former minister of state for defense and chairman, transport committee on Buhari’s campaign visit to the state, Mr Demola Seraki, opined that over 100,000 members of the APC were expected at the rally.

Arsenal midfielder, Lucas Torreira, has disclosed the Gunners’ target this season.

According to Torreira, the Club’s target this campaign is to qualify for next year’s UEFA Champions League.
Arsenal are currently in sixth position on the Premier League table following their 3-1 defeat against Manchester City over the weekend.

British investigators on Wednesday said they had recovered a body from the wreckage of the plane carrying Argentine footballer Emiliano Sala in the Channel.

But bad weather has forced the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) to abandon hopes of pulling the plane to shore.
The light aircraft was carrying the 28-year-old footballer to his new Premier League team Cardiff City when it disappeared near the island of Guernsey on January 21, along with 59-year-old pilot David Ibbotson.

A shipwreck hunter hired by Sala’s family with the help of funds donated by football stars such as Lionel Messi found the plane wreckage on Sunday.

The AAIB who then took over the operation revealed on Monday that an unidentified body had been found at the site.”In challenging conditions, the AAIB and its specialist contractors successfully recovered the body previously seen amidst the wreckage,” the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) said Wednesday.

“The operation was carried out in as dignified a way as possible and the families were kept informed of progress.”

However, attempts to recover the aircraft during the underwater operation were unsuccessful.

“The weather forecast is poor for the foreseeable future and so the difficult decision was taken to bring the overall operation to a close,” the statement added.

It said that extensive video footage captured by a remotely operated vehicle is expected to “provide valuable evidence for our safety investigation,” adding that it intends to publish an interim report on the accident later this month.

The recovered body will be now be passed to the coroner for identification.

The plane, a Piper PA-46 Malibu, vanished from radar around 20 kilometres (12 miles) north of Guernsey, with pilot Ibbotson the only other person aboard.

“Had that not happened, I don’t think anybody would have searched for the plane,” said shipwreck hunter David Mearns, whose private company found the plane before calling in the AAIB.

The discovery of two seat cushions on the French coast last week revealed that the plane was broken, Mearns added.

Earlier this week Sala’s father, Horacio Sala, acknowledged that there was no prospect of finding his son alive.

“There’s no longer any hope,” he told Fox Sports.

“We hope the two bodies are inside (the plane). It’s over, the only thing I hope now is that they find them.”

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kano State University of Science and Technology (KUST) Wudil branch, has threatened to embark on a fresh strike immediately after the nationwide strike, if the state government failed to meet its demands.

The ASUU KUST branch chairman, Mahadi Lawal-Yakubu issued the threat on Tuesday when he led members of the union on a courtesy visit to the Speaker, Kano State House of Assembly, Alhaji Kabiru Rurum, NAN reports.
Lawal-Yakubu told newsmen shortly after the visit that they were at the House to intimate the Speaker about their problems as well as other issues affecting the union.

According to him, the union found it necessary to discuss the challenges with the Speaker, with the hope that he would intervene in the issue to avert possible strike by the Union.

He explained that the state government had approved for the payment of some allowances, but up to this moment not a single Kobo was paid.

He added that, “The reasons behind the nationwide strike by the Union is also common in our University. We have the same challenges which we have to struggle to make sure is resolved or we go on the strike.

“As soon as the nationwide strike ends, we are going to give the state government a period of grace to look into the issue or we go on strike.

“Strike is not our desire, but it has become our last option in our struggle to ensure the betterment of the university, and also to make sure that our children get a quality education.

He stressed the need for the state government to look into the issue to avoid a fresh strike because “we were in first semester when the nationwide strike started.

The chairman appealed to the state House of Assembly to give the education sector priority in the budgetary allocation in the next budget.

In his remark, the Speaker assured the Union that the Assembly would look into the issues with a view to meeting the governor to resolve it.

He called on the union to exercise patience as the assembly would do its best to ensure amicable resolution of the problem.

The end to the four-month old strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU), is not in sight as the reconciliatory meeting between the Federal Government and the striking lecturers which held on the instance of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, in Abuja last night, ended in a stalemate.

ASUU had embarked on the strike since November last year following the failures of Federal government to implement the agreement reached on the funding of universities, the payment of outstanding earned allowances and sundry issues.

Before Friday’s meeting which lasted about three hours, a five hour meeting two weeks ago could not resolve the differences in the government’s position and the demands of ASUU, although the minister said that” substantial progress was made and that with the few areas of disagreement remaining, the strike would soon be over.”

Unlike before, both ASUU and the minister declined to disclose what the meeting agreed upon and when the strike will be called off.

After much prodding, ASUU President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi just said progress is being recorded.
“We are making progress,” he quipped and declined to say if government has agreed to their demands for the strike to be called off.
The next meeting between the lecturers and the Federal government comes up innext Thursday February 7th.

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that securing Nigeria’s future was the legacy he desired to leave behind.

Buhari also vowed that he will not shield anyone who is brazen enough to embezzle public funds; or betray peoples trust, adding that such persons will face the music in due course.

He made this pledge at a town hall meeting organised by the Directorate of Youth Moblisation, Buhari Presidential Campaign Council on Friday in Abuja, according to NAN.

He said, “Our future must be secured at all cost; that is the legacy I want to leave behind.

“I will continue to work towards improving on security and national integrity, and continued growth and development of our economy.
“Since 2003, this administration has implemented policies aimed at the three main issues—security, economy and fighting corruption.

“Those who know me know that I don’t make promises I cannot keep; but I assure you that young people will continue to be part of this administration even as we consolidate on the gains so far and more to come.’’

He said that with over a population of 70 per cent of youths making up Nigeria’s 180 million people, youths were as important presently as they would be in future.

According to him, the voting population of young people is the determinant factor in any election that any politician cannot neglect.

The president expressed his sincere appreciation for the support from young people during his presidential ambitions from 2003 to date.

“I will like to assure you and other young people who are not here that I remain committed to the cause of a better Nigeria for you and for every generation.

“I am still committed to the pledges I made to the country in 2015 and I stand before you today to renew those same pledges that I will continue the fight against corruption.

“I can assure you that no one, no matter who or what will make me compromise on fighting corruption.

“I will not shield anymore who is brazen enough to embezzle public funds; or betray peoples trust. They will face the music in due course,’’ he said.

Earlier while fielding questions from the youths, Buhari said his experience as the Petroleum Minister under former President Olusegun Obasanjo was brought to bear in tackling perennial fuel scarcity.

On infrastructure, he said that his administration had creditably acquitted itself in three years in spite of earning far less than the previous administration.

He said that between 1999 and 2014/2015, oil production was 2.1 million barrels per day; at an average cost of 100 dollar per barrel and it went up to 143 dollars per barrel.

Buhari said that in spite of the huge earnings, the roads were in sorry state as they were last rehabilitated during his days at the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF).

He said that the railway was virtually dead and there was no power even as some key actors in the previous government admitted they spent N16 billion U.S. dollars on power.

“But you know more than I do; where is the power? When we came, we were quite unfortunate, one, the price from about 80/90 dollars per barrel then came down to 37/38 and was oscillating between 40 and 50 dollars.

“And then the militants were unleashed and production went half a million barrels a day from over 2 million barrels per day.

“All the same, from the time we took over till now, we tried to do the road, to do the rail, and to do the power,’’ he said.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola and the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu also responded to questions relevant to their ministries.

More so, Gov. Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State and Hadiza Usman, Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority also took questions from the youths.

On his part, Mr Tony Nwoye, Director of Youth Mobilisation for APC Presidential Campaign Council, said he was delighted that Buhari spared some time to interact with the youths.

He said he was confident that Buhari was committed to a credible, free and fair election and urged the youths to protect their votes
