Let's be careful here.

If a Chinese-owned shop is operating legally, paying taxes, complying with Nigerian laws and employing Nigerians, why should we automatically say it must not be allowed?

Nigerian businesses also compete aggressively with one another every day. A Nigerian electronics dealer can open a shop beside another Nigerian electronics dealer. That's business. The real question should be whether everyone is playing by the same rules.

If foreign businesses are getting illegal advantages, avoiding taxes, violating immigration or investment regulations, importing goods illegally, or operating in sectors restricted to Nigerians, then government should absolutely investigate and enforce the law.

But if the business is legitimate, the focus should be on creating a level playing field—not on the nationality of the business owner.

In fact, Chinese investment can potentially bring capital, cheaper products, technology, supply-chain connections and employment opportunities. The problem isn't necessarily that Chinese people are doing business in Nigeria.

The problem is whether Nigeria has strong enough policies to make that investment work for Nigerians too.

Instead of simply saying “they shouldn't open shops,” perhaps we should be asking:

Why is it so difficult for Nigerian businesses to access cheap capital?

Why are electricity and logistics so expensive?

Why can't local manufacturers produce competitively?

Why do Nigerian traders have to travel abroad to source the same goods?

Why are our borders and tax systems so poorly managed?

Why aren't we creating an environment where Nigerian businesses can grow into companies capable of competing with international businesses?

Because banning competition won't automatically make Nigerian businesses stronger.

Better policies will.

If government wants foreign investors to manufacture locally, create jobs and transfer technology, then give them incentives to do exactly that. At the same time, give Nigerian entrepreneurs access to affordable financing, infrastructure and a fair regulatory environment.

Let's protect Nigerian businesses, yes.

But let's not turn legitimate foreign investment into the enemy.

The goal should not be “Chinese out.” The goal should be “Nigerians must not be disadvantaged.”

That's a much more sensible conversation.

Please, President Tinubu, Lagos State Governor and Ogun State Governors should allow CHINESE to open businesses freely in Lagos and Ogun State and even in Oyo State. They should not listen to those complaining. It is for our goods and development.

Two days ago, Kenya President President gave orders to Foreigners operating small businesses to close their businesses and leave Kenya. I know what this means to Nigerians in Kenya. In Lagos, Ogun and Oyo where CHINESE are building factories we cannot stop them from operating retail businesses for now. We need them.

We need Chinese Warehouses in Nigeria. We need Chinese Terminals at our Deep Seaport. We want to be the CHINESE Warehouse to African countries. Countries in Africa are already coming to Nigeria to buy goods, but they are very few. We want many businesses and individuals in Africa to come to Nigeria for their procurement. We want increase Cargo services from Nigeria to other Africa countries. We want transactions between our Banks with branches in different Africa countries to increase. When we have fully utilized the benefits of Chinese Industrialization we can now decide on South Africa and Kenya treatment, but for now, they should be allowed to operate.

Nigeria has been using less than 10% of it annual budget to fund subsidy on petrol.

Example in 2015 we spent 600 billion on subsidy
2019 500b.

Then in
2021 about 1.4 trillion. (how it jump to 1.4 trillion need to be investigated)
2022 about 4 trillion while the budget stood at 28 trillion. ... This 4 trillion NNPC spent here need to be investigate because it shouldn't pass 700 billion

And this can fund subsidy for 15 years if we decide to peg subsidy spending at 1 trillion naira yearly.

I can tell u freely that in a working society we can fund subsidy and get savings. Keep prices down and retain a higher purchasing power for Nigeria.








Reintroducing subsidy won't in anyway bankrupt Nigeria.

I was in the United Kingdom last month I discovered that the government had reduced bus fair from 3 pounds to 2pounds per trip. Introduced newer buses, this help keep inflation down.

But in Nigeria u throw an already poor population under the bus and said u are reforming the economy without no support

But the fact that governments have been calling for removal of subsides from 1987-2023 shows you that they could not afford it for decades.

Same fuel subsidy obasanjo paid and was able to take external reserves from 4 billion to 45 billion dollars + 25 billion excess crude?

Same subsidy yaradua paid and everywhere was peaceful with external reserves hitting 60+ billion.



Now they removed it... What's the impact Where is the savings??

Nigeria cannot afford free quality education. We can afford free crap education, with NELFUND paying the 'debt', and a system that is worsened by corruption. We have to change our leadership to one that promotes productivity and industries and anticorruption. Vote for Obi..he is not perfect, but he is tending towards that way.

But we cannot fund free quality education on our budget. Bayelsa is spending 1.1 trillion naira as its 2026 budget. That university proobably needs 14 trillion naira as its annual budget to even begin to compete with the world.Same thing for most of your universities.

The way we are going, the products of private universites and foreign universites would soon surpass the government uni products. And that is bad news for kids from poor homes.
