Geetee111: I did apply to ISI and Arc languages school, both of them came back with a note that they don’t accept direct application for Nigerians because of proof of funds and COE, that I need a third party agent to help me do the application, I believe it’s as a result of forgery. Sorry for the late reply, I didn't use any agent in my own case so I don't have an idea. Try to find out how you can contact the agents. Agents from Japan will cost good money but they will make everything extremely easy for you. You can search for Japanese language school agents on Google if it will bring back results. |

Geetee111: Big chief, i did pm you, i am looking to apply for Language school that opens in April
Ok, I had a serious issue in Nigeria. I had booked my flight to leave via Qatar Airways, but on getting to the Qatar desk in Nigeria the agent profiling me started asking for all sorts of things, my degree certificate, my nysc certificate, my admission letter, and all sort of nonsense. After I presented everything he then went and asked if I had paid my school fees. I told him I had paid and showed him the receipt. The man said he needed to see money leaving my Nigerian account to the Japanese account. Meanwhile I had paid the money to a family friend who used his own money in Japan to pay so he didn't necessarily need to move money from Nigeria to Japan. This Qatar agent just went loco on me, he insisted I bought a return ticket again. I was like how do you buy a return ticket on a two year travel visa? What date would I put on it? To cut the long story short the man wickedly made me miss my flight. I was devastated,I then met one of his colleagues who said I should come the next day. I got to the airport the next day and the there was a little back and forth with some of them at the desk and a more reasonable person asked me some questions and said he would allow me fly that I was good to go. But then I had to rebook another flight since I add missed my first flight but then no extra seat so I had go back home again. Anyways the all scenario set me back another 900k to rebook another flight for Wednesday. Got to the airport met with the people who profiled me on Saturday and finally left the country on the 1st of October. Hello bro, I didn't see the mail...I am really sorry. I don't think this nairaland email works. I didn't go through language school, I came here for masters so the process will be different. I think it's better you ask your questions out in the open here so you can have answers from more experienced people. |

Rictech: I had similar experience, my own scenario set me back another 600k. According to a staff, Qatar Airways received email from Japan that they should scrutinize all Nigerians flying to Japan using their service, that lots of Nigerians are being sent back or in detention camp. But surprisingly, when I got to Kansai International Airport, Osaka, apart from the long queue, every other thing was seamless. I am now in my room resting after spending over 17hrs(delayed flight) in Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malaysia Where in Japan are you ? |

Please read about filling the form on the embassy website. An example is provided. Please use the Internet. Every information you need is there. Ok thank you for the response. Pls I have another question: is it a non appearance visa because all I saw from the site I visited is they asked to only book appointment with jvas not Japanese embassy itself. Thank you |

blackbriar: Fill it quicker. Like Yesterday.
Accommodation in school hostel is cheaper and limited. And straight form Airport, to Free Aiport shuttle bus offered by School straight to your room.
For example.
Accomodation in School hostel cost
Rent 10,000 - 15,00 yen monthly, inclusive of internet, electricity. Aim for International Student hostels. transportation cost - 0 Yen, as hostel is close or inside campus. The School will reserve a room in your name for when you resume. ACT NOW.
cons It might be shared kitchen. However look through the hostels on offer for the room layout and costs.
However, should you choose to go with provate renting.
First week in hotel as no accomdation available. Average hotel is 10,000 yen per night.
Rent is like 40,000 - 60,000 yen monthly Electicity - 6,000 - 10,000 yen monthly Water: 3,000 - 5,000 monthly Internet; 5,000 - 7,000 monthly Gas; 1,000 - 2,000 monthly Tranportation : 1,000 - 2,000 monthly.
My humble 2 cents Greetings, I just got my COE form from the school. My question is how do I apply for the visa? Do I just go to the embassy with my passport and the COE form. Honestly I am tired of filling Japanese forms. The form filling is just too much. Thank you |

Travel › Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Nfest: 7:05am On Jul 30, 2025 |
Gerrard59: Since the visa application process has changed, I have no idea. Previously, you could send a representative (a proxy) with the slip issued after submitting your visa application at the embassy to pick up your visa or passport (if the visa isn't issued). Thanks I am trying to fill the form for accommodation they sent to me,Hyogo International House. They said it's 35,000 yen a month for a room. |
Travel › Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Nfest: 5:21pm On Jul 29, 2025 |
Gerrard59: Max three months or more, depending on the prefecture. It is expected that once the COE is dispatched, you are expected to be issued the visa. Give it a week between the delivery of the COE at the visa application centre and visa issuance. During my time, visas were issued within three working days.
For Japan, to be issued a resident visa, the COE is the ultimate. Pls I want to know if one has to go back to Abuja to pick for the visa cos I was just sent a form to fill for hyogo international house |

blackbriar: Please target National Universities. They are more affordable compared to Private Universities and get more scholarships. I already got admission to Kobe Institute of Computing. |
Travel › Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Nfest: 6:10pm On Jul 20, 2025 |
Gerrard59: No, because you are restricted to 28 hours per week. The jobs that could pay higher (salaries are usually lower outside Tokyo) would require an intermediate to somewhat higher level of Japanese. Warehouse jobs could earn you Y200K per month, but this is if you max your work hours and also work during holidays (no hourly limit). In summary, you cannot entirely rely on part-time jobs to fund your education. Seek scholarships and tuition waivers/deductions. This is the same mistake those in the UK made, an English speaking country with a strong Nigerian/Black presence, have issues. Here is Japan.
Wait o, I checked the conversion of N8.5m to yen and it is almost a million yen? Nah! It is not possible. That is fees alone, no living expenses. Get a scholarship or have well-to-do parents.
What does this your friend or neighbour do for a living in Japan as a student or while as a student? How were the expenses settled? My neighbour went there when naira still made sense, went there like 6 years ago he is now doing his PhD on scholarship He said he had to struggle to pay, then later got a scholarship School fees is 800000yen Is there any way I can get scholarships before resumption ? |
Travel › Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Nfest: 2:43pm On Jul 20, 2025 |
blackbriar: Kobe is a nice city as well. Prettyy close to Osaka.
As a private university, i am not so certain of scholarships. Why not look into MEXT? Or beeter still ask your professor, some schoool gives some tuition discount for students from developing countires. So use it, you are self sponsoring form a poor country and want to go to schoool ad need financial help.
Also look into Rotray Scholarships, but no accessible once on ground.
As a sizeable city, there will be jobs. Some may warrant commuting by train to osaka. try to make your driving licence in Naija current. It may be helpful.
Better stil go to on facebook, linkedin and look for Nigerians/africans in the school and ask more question about part time jobs in Kobe.
My humble 2 cents. Thank you,I just hope I can get a scholarship o job that will cover the tuition. |
Travel › Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Nfest: 2:37pm On Jul 20, 2025 |
Gerrard59: Part time jobs in a city like Kobe isn't the issue, but why are you applying to a private university? Here, mostly children from middle class to upper middle class families do so. So, why would an African with less funds apply to a private university in Japan? I know from a distance two lasses at the same institute, one from Nigeria, and the other from Benin Republic, but both are on Japanese government scholarships.
Unless you come from a well-to-do family, it makes no sense whatsoever to apply to private universities in Japan. Also, except for a few, private universities are not highly ranked and have fewer scholarships for international students from Africa.
Anyway, should you get admitted, log on to studyinjapan website to thoroughly search for scholarships. In fact, commence it the moment you get the admission before coming here. You would need money to live in any country, especially a distant country which is the first time you are inside. Honestly my neighbour here in Nigeria left and went to the same school, he advised me to come over but by the time I started the search most schools had closed. I found only one public school and the professors was another hurdle,I couldn't get any. The only one that responded said he was fully booked. Then m6 neighbour suggested Kobe,I put in for the admission, did the interview submitted the required documents and I got admitted. School fees is around 8.5million naira per semester. Can any job give me that kind of money to pay up for second semester? School resumes in October |
