JallowBah: I am guessing you have told him you dont make enough to bring him over?
In that case, he knows the deal.
Yes, he knows that. That's my point, he knows the score and it's gonna be tough and still wants me.

JallowBah: I am just telling you how some men do, just keep your eyes open. Not all are the same, if they were, I would not be married to an african myself.

And we all have commitments. The truth is that if you dont make enough money, you cant bring him to UK to stay..
Thanks, you give me the most hope that things can work out. I am not saying that I am never willing to go to Africa it's just not possible for the meantime while I am retraining to get a better job.
First of all I know that for starters he will only initially get a visa for six months max. I'll take that six months and then see where we go from there. If things are meant to be then we will surely know and can then plan a real future together, wherever it may be.
^^^^spot on!!! cool cool sounds like someone who knows what she is talking about.

OP don't be offended. They are just telling you the truth and advising you to look out for snakes in the grass. The last thing we need is for you to ignore it and then come on here months later about why African men are the worst beings on the planet! grin
I am grateful for all the advice. Don't take it that I am not. I truly believe in this. If he was after residency here then surely he would have gone to someone who had the money there and then to make things happen. He knows all I have to offer is love and yet he still comes to me.
I will be coming back here to tell you how Africans are the greatest beings on the planet. Mark my words lol.

Firstly, the reason I came to nairaland was simply for advice- on the off chance that someone would see this who has been in a similar situation and would be able to offer me some realistic advice.

Secondly, to all the people who are doubting this- I know what you are saying but am willing to take the risk. I don't want to be that old lady thinking "what if". I know that this could be too good to be true but it could also be the real thing. Do you deny me the right to asatain this for myself.

The reason I cannot spend long in Nigeria is a private matter. I have commitments over here.

It seems some of you didn't understand what I was trying to get across. It's unlikely that we will be able to meet up for at least a year while we save the money. Then it will have been 2 years, is that really so soon?
I am not going into this with my eyes closed. I realize that things may not work. We might annoy the hell out of each other in person but all we want is a shot at it. A chance to see if what we feel across the miles will be the same in person.
I know I write way too much, all I really wanted to know was which visa would be the best to apply for or if anybody had any realistic advice about how we could meet.

Hi,

I am from the UK and have fallen in love with this Nigerian guy who I met on Facebook.
Let me please give you the details... We have a mutual friend who lives here near me (I went to school with the friend), they are Facebook friends because the guy I went to school with sent my guy a friend request and it was there that he saw my profile. He sent me a message asking if I would be his friend too and for over a year we have been chatting on facebook, the phone and via webcam. He's introduced me to his friends who I have also spoken to. Slowly over time we have fallen in love with each other and would like to take our relationship further and meet in person.

This is where we hit a brick wall. None of us have the money to just up and go to the other's country or know where to go from here. We have both said we will save any spare cash that we get so that one day we can be together and hope to get enough between us sometime during the next year or so. But after that we are at a loss as to how we will actually visit each other. I am willing to come to Africa for a visit but due to other commitments I cannot live there or stay long. He has said that he is willing to move to the UK if it means we can get to be together. We have looked at the visa requirements and are both very confused by which one to apply for. So this is where I would like some advice.

I really love this guy and I believe that he does me. We sit and talk for hours about our families, our friends, funny little stories from our childhood. The village he comes from, life in Lagos, football (we mainly argue over who is the better team lol), he has started to teach me Yoruba and he has brought me closer to God. Anyway what I am trying to say is we know everything about each other, this is true love. He's not trying to scam me and he's not asking for money I don't even think he really wants to live in the UK. He is so proud of Nigeria and his people and always talks about it with such passion and love but it is really not possible for me to live there for the foreseeable future so the UK is our only choice for now.

Does anybody have any idea as to where we go next? We are both prepared to wait, of course. But would both rather it be sooner than later.
