I have notice the recent tone of Atiku and his better argument on the standands of obasanjo regime .Personally i think my Dog (even though i don''t have one can rule nigeria better than Obasanjo) after all my dog won't lead us in the negative direction. The third term plot is real and if Obasanjo want to deny it he needs a better strategy rather than disgrace nigerians in front of BBC and CNn:when he can't answer a simple question if he will run for a third term or not .He disagraces Nigerians world wide with his attitudes.

My questions are as follows
- Do you think Atiku stands will lead to a Muslim and Christain movement resulting in unrest?
-Do you think Obasanjo will bow to his frommer deputy and then hand over to him if things swing atiku way?

Vice President Atiku Abubakar yesterday followed his outburst against President Olusegun Obasanjo over the third term issue by declaring that he will certainly run for presidency in 2007.

The Vice President through his media aide Alhaji Shehu Garba told THISDAY that the VP would run for the presidency next year but on the basis of a new vision for a united, prosperous and peaceful Nigeria.

The Atiku spokesman said that the number two citizen believes that he has the most experienced to lead the country given that he has been VP for about 7 years.

The VP said that he believes in the reform programmes of this administration but intends to modify many of them after consulting widely with relevant stakeholders so that the reform can be better implemented in the interest of the people of Nigeria.

ABUJA, April 8 (Reuters) - Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar has confirmed he will run for president in elections next year, raising the stakes in his rivalry with President Olusegun Obasanjo that has turned openly hostile this week.

Abubakar was widely expected to run, but at a time when Obasanjo's allies are campaigning for the president to stand again in 2007, his announcement was the latest in a series of defiant moves against his boss.

Re: Atiku For President! by Danmasani(m): 9:51pm On Apr 08, 2006
whatz wrong with Atiku being president? who else do u prefer? Buhari? Kalu? Marwa( IBB's man)? or IBB?

Lets Face it, we've got to take the lesser evil under the tight circumstances the Nigerian polity at the momemt is embarassed
Re: Atiku For President! by Nobody: 12:21am On Apr 09, 2006
Atiku has no moral right to campaign for presidency, a man who has been practically labelled a traitor by the govt he is supposed to be second in command to, a man who has not been chased by EFCC simply because he is the VP and immune to prosecution should have resigned long ago if he had any modicum of shame!

i do not care for him at all.

i would be looking forward to the elections in the USA next yr!

Re: Atiku For President! by Jakumo(m): 6:50am On Apr 09, 2006
Vice President Atiku is indeed a man of many great vices.  He also happens to be so monumentally corrupt and greedy that his reign as Commandeerer in Thief of Nigeria would make General Babangida's lootocracy look like a clergymen's tea party in comparison.   If Atiku is allowed to use his stolen money to buy his way into power as Nigeria's president, he will fleece the treasury so comprehensively that Nigerians will resort to eating road-side grass, wood and human flesh just to stay alive.

That semi-literate man Atiku is the devil incarnate, with his crocodilian smile and halting, grade-school failure English. The only people who could ever seriously suggest Atiku ought to run president of Nigeria would be those with a really morbid sense of humor who live outside Nigeria and have no intention of ever returning to live there or even visit the place.

Atiku - Turaki Adamawa for President, Better days are back for us in Nigeria.

President Atiku is far better than General OBJ's 3rd term.

-----------------------------------------------------
Atiku has never denied his ambition of becoming Nigeria's President.
He is the type of president we are looking forward to having. Someone that knows his worth and not waiting for some group of rented crowds begging him to be president.
He has prepared himself, his mission and vision for the country.

Up Turaki Adamawa - Atiku
Long life Nigeria.

yes sir! i do not understand the game of politics in nigeria and i never will. how can i? it is not a game about ideology, it is all about what i can get from the treasury, it is about corruption, nepotism, babacracy, chop-i-chop, ghana-must-go, ineptitude, incompetence, mediocrity in the name of federal character.

i have never wished to understand this game called "nigerian politrics", i don't wish to. pls do not attempt to teach me!

i dont know for you people, if am asked. let what happen in ghana happen here. call all this currently people in power, from baba to the last. bomb them and install new fresh faces that will clean up the mess. whether atiku is better evil or not, i dont want to know. let an ibo man lead and lets see the outcome. hausa and yoruba don tire us. let ibos for once lead this country and let me see why things wont be better. even if its kalu although i dont trust that criminal.
Re: Atiku For President! by otokx(m): 8:53am On Apr 10, 2006
VP Atiku is a politician that has proved himself time and again. For the records since it appears we Nigerians suffer from partial memory loos; this man secured the governorship seat in his state before dropping it to run as VP with Mr. President. The only drawback that i see is that he is not an ex military officer and that really matters. As for the christian/muslim dichotomy, that one ended on June 12, 1993.

So what? What's your point with that statement? Exactly how has he proved himself? By having his American home searched by the FBI in connection with a corruption scandal? Please explain how.

We Nigerians are lost beyond belief. We have come from a great race of Africans in antiquity to a bunch of "christians" and "muslims" fighting each other like the puppets Europeans (and Arabs) have turned us into. These foreing religions were actually adapted from our ancient ONE (for those in the KNOW). Now we're just a bunch of blind followers. I can't believe it, I truly can't believe it. Do we not know that we are all in the same boat?

Toshman,
Thank you for the last comment. Let anyone of Atiku’s critics throw the first stone.
For those who are shouting,  No to Atiku,  I beg of you, who is coming up against OBJ? Do we have any choice now?
For the sake of democracy, anything against OBJ will do for now.
We should never dream of reaching that Utopian state in a flight.
Our democratic struggle is a journey, and anyone who will stand up to defend that process should be a hero. Nigeria did not begin withe OBJ and should not end with him. If Atiku is bad today, entrenching our polity and eventual respect for constitutionality will ensure that people like him will pay one day for their deeds. An OBJ extension and criminal amendment to the constitution effectively takes us off that trajectory.
But we must never run away from the threats to society that the likes of OBJ and his crowd of “ghosts” represent today.

Thank you Mr Atiku for speaking up (and others who have vehemently done and are still doing so).
But to prove to the world that he is really a democrat at heart, Atiku must redeem himself at the altar of Nigerians by giving them hope. Hope to have the strength to fight the battles that lie ahead.

Ermm NO. Anything won't do. We should be encouraging others to run as well. There are a couple of Governors who have done well with developing their states amongst others. Let us not view these thieves as a way out. We shouldn't even be contemplating Atiku with his foreign assets.
Re: Atiku For President! by DivineOke(f): 5:35am On Apr 11, 2006
Atiku should leave presidency alone. he is truly a lootocrat and a liar.

Abubakar's statement said he pledged to reduce the number of Nigerians living below the poverty level from 70 percent to 15 percent through the creation of four to 10 million new jobs,

The statement also said Abubakar could make a difference to the crisis in the oil-producing Niger Delta, the country's economic lifeline which has been hit by a series of attacks.

Really? Is he a magician? and how exactly does he plan to do this?

Wave a magic wand?
Re: Atiku For President! by jibitoye(m): 10:43am On Apr 11, 2006
Let me start by saying I do not believe at all that Atiku is a saint and if presented with a more credible choice as it were today, I would rather support such.
I don't think, even within our political sphere, there are as yet any saints, so the notion of Atiku being a looter would need not be a criterion here (though in an ideal scenario it would be, but then are we in an ideal scenario in Nigeria?), except we want to throw away the "baby with the bath water" and then that would mean we are expending our political reality.

I quite agree that we need new faces in our polity. But the question to ask is: where are the people with guts to challenge the status quo? Are these people waiting to be driven from their homes to contest elections? In all democracies, people never become leaders without showing some aspiration.
It is only in Nigeria that people clamour for power without presenting choices. The South-south people wants it, but are not presenting candidates, the South-east wants it and are not presenting candidates. Even the opposition parties do not want OBJ again, and there are no presidential candidates. What democracy?
I believe truly that there are some governors who can mount the saddle and yes, take us on a beautiful journey. But they have to come out. If they are not going to come out, then I believe anyone who comes out to challenge OBJ’s tyrannical dreams will do. I still wonder if Nigerians will ask OBJ (and he will be true enough to state that too) if there was never an agenda in the making since 1999 and why the PDP had never been making plans for succession all these years.
This is ridiculous. They just want to maintain the status quo to further enslave Nigerians.
The goal here is to entrench democracy. Once we can stay firmly on the course of protecting democracy, the rule of law and especially constitutionality, then we surely will have hopes that a day will come when we can truly have a conscientious national leader. I believe Nigeria’s problems can not be solved by just one leader, not even by a generation, which is why it sounds so intellectually lazy for OBJ and his cohorts to believe he can stay on to finish the job (what job if you ask?).
OBJ was meant to be a stop-gap leader. One to bring us back on to a journey to democratic practices, and not a national problem solver (he aspires to that though). He should go back home to rest after delivering that.
If he so desires not to, then whatever it is he  has worked for in the past 40 years of national dominance is going down the drains.
