@justkunmi
you are definitely right bout VIDA.You might say "Are you kidding? We all know that he kicks ass!" But only "true" United fans appreciate him like that. Other people, who call themselves united fans, then say they also love Drogba and Fabregas, don't really understand how amazing this guy is.

Unlike strikers or midfielders, who usually have some sort of "physical" results like goals, assists, etc., defenders don't have that. You might say that it's same for goalkeepers, but goalkeepers' performances are more "visual". Broadcast usually shows the slow motion of keepers' save right after he saves some 25-yards long range shot, close range header, etc. But how often do you see slow motions of defenders making spectacular tackles, unless it's some sort of controversial one? Also, most defenders don't usually do those fancy stuffs like beating opponents, great runs, etc. Defenders simply stand rock solid in their area, taking balls from the attackers, and yes, sometimes it is not easy to notice their efforts.

Another reason that VIDA is underrated is probably because of his nationality. Many people watches the international matches of England, Germany, France, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Portugal, etc., but to be honest, who regularly watches Serbia's international matches? Less people are watching him play, so obviously less people will acknowledge his skills.

To me, he is one of the best defender in the world at the moment, and I'm looking forward to see him kicking even more butts on CL Final

Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by hucarson(m): 1:29pm On May 13, 2008
@ Lordi,

Ferguson will live forever. He is by far the best living manager in the world. This was a season many predicted the community shield jinx will stop Man United from winning the title. Fergie proved his critics wrong again like he did in 93/94 and 96/97. I am tipping Ferguson to stay until he is 75 years of age which is 9 years away. cheesy
Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by lordimpaq(m): 1:50pm On May 13, 2008
i dont see him retiring unitl 2010

because he wants to equal liverpool's record in premier league titles not just equal but overtake, them

then he'll be satisfied.
Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by hucarson(m): 1:55pm On May 13, 2008
@ Lordi,

What are Arsenal's chances of winning something next season. The future looks very bleak for Wenger and Arsenal fans as a whole. I don't think Arsenal can challenge Chelsea and Man United if they don't spend money this summer. Ferguson knew he had spend 60 million last season to have a grip on the title. Had he been tight-fisted, Man United would have been blown away to bits when Scholes got injured. I expect Ferguson to spend another 40 million this summer. The key here is to match our rivals in the transfer market. cool
Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by vinisky: 2:28pm On May 13, 2008
My fellow mancs, good day to you all, after a great race to winning the primier league title, its transfer season time. though we still have a champions league medal to play for, rumor has it that United are in for Brazilian aces Luis Fabiano and Daniel Alves of sevilla for 30 million pounds. Here the link:

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/article1155152.ece

what do you think?
Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by hucarson(m): 2:34pm On May 13, 2008
@ Vinisky,

Alves and Fabiano will definitely cost more than 30 million. Huntelaar(the hunter) will be the best option upfront. Luis Fabiano might chicken out with the physcial nature of the English league. Ferguson should sign Micah Richards/Daniel Alves and Huntelaar or Fabiano. Manucho is doing us proud in Greece.
He has bagged 3 goals in 5 appearances which isn't a bad return. Bring on next season, please.

Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by pein(m): 9:41am On May 14, 2008
@nazzyon
dong fangzhou is wack, the guy hasnt done shit for the reserves not to even talk of progressing to the senior team.
campbell, brandy are good players but the ones to really watch out for are possebon and welbeck. possebon is really brilliant in midfield, likened to kaka in some fields but after having watched him a few times i can at least say he is on the road to becoming a really great player.all thats needed is for someone like scholes to take him under his personal wings tongue
Manucho- we'll just have to wait till next season to see what he is capable of,Welbeck also is another to look forward to though united are not really known for producing strikers from the youth/reserve team.

Aint been around in a while but just wanted to congratulate Scum United on retaining the title, i bet the likes of Jackal n I-servant would have had multiple orgasims over the title.

All the same congrats, in all honesty would rather have seen United win it than Chelsea with their boring brand of football

The individual awards keep rolling in for Cristiano Ronaldo, who has picked up the Barclays Player of the Season and Barclays Golden Boot awards to complete a sensational season.

The 23-year-old Portuguese wing wizard also collected a merit award for reaching 30 league goals this season.

Ronaldo was pivotal in United's Barclays Premier League title success and it was no surprise that he earned the Barclays Player of the Season accolade for the second year in succession.

Whichever way you look at it, Ronaldo has been exceptional this season, and the stats back it up. His 31 goals from 34 league appearances helped see off stiff opposition for the awards from Arsenal’s Emmanuel Adebayor and Fernando Torres of Liverpool.

It's the first time a player has scored more than 30 league goals in a season since Alan Shearer’s 31-goal haul for Blackburn Rovers twelve years ago.

The merit award for reaching 30 goals will also benefit one lucky charity as Ronaldo will receive £1,000 for every goal scored to be donated to a charity of his choice.

However, for all the personal awards showered on the Madeiran magician, his sights will be firmly set on the Champions League trophy in Moscow next Wednesday.

Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Xerxes1(m): 11:18am On May 19, 2008
@ tkb417,

One FINAL PUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!

The analysis shall commence soon. . . .
How do we beat Chelski? Where the battle will be won and who makes the starting XI?
It's going to be massive. United should blow Chelski into bits cos we have got more match winners than those stinking Chavs.
Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by codedguy1(m): 12:18pm On May 19, 2008
Selection will be the issue here especially for Man U, cos everyone seems to be fit.
The tricky part would be in the Mid field, who does Fergie Play and who does he rest.
Will he be expecting to win the game in 90mins or having to be cautious, knowing it could go to extra time and then pen.

Does he rest players like tevez, hargreaves, Anderson to intoduce them later after reading the game or do we go Gong-ho and try to win it in 90mins. if these guys are going to be rested that wud mean having a scholes, ronaldo, carrick, nani/park and probably fletcher starting in the middle, with Rooney upfront, this means 4-5-1. then make changes as the game goes on. i think Fergie will start the Team that played against Westham on the last day of the Epl campaign

Chelsea will not be an easy push over cos they have a very effective midfield which is where i think the battle will be, lampard, cole, ballack, makalele are a formidable lot. Another thing is what will AG play, will he be cautios also or will he be daring enough to play a 4-4-2 Anelka and Drogba combo, which in ma opinion would keep Vida and Rio alert for the duration of the game. I think AG will be cautious in a game of that Magnitude.

All in all its gonna be one hell of match, we shall be watching.

Any other divergent views?
Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by tkb417(m): 12:44pm On May 19, 2008
@Xerxes
i think both Grant and SAF will unleash the best at this stage.
Chelsea 4-3-3 United 4-4-2

I think the best way to win this game is to go gung-ho against them
Tevez and Rooney with Ronaldo will be too much to handle for any team
The only way to lose that game is to be cautious like we did against Barcelona

It will be better if Scholes and Hargo are given the starting shirts in the middle of the park. The reason why we bought Hargo in the first place is to bring to fore his experience in the UCL. he should be the cover for our defence while Scholes should be pushed forward a bit to support the strikers with his killer passes. Park and Ronaldo to start on the wings.

Anderson and Carrick to enter when fatigue calls
game to end 2-1 in favour of United!!!
Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Xerxes1(m): 12:47pm On May 19, 2008
@ Coded Guy,

Whatever Ferguson does, he should leave the veterans out of this tie and bring em in later. . . . .
I have watched Chelsea's previous games with keen interest and their overall strength lies in their midfield.
They cannot even match United's defence or attack but that midfield is super-strong and this is where i think they can outwit Fergie.

Ferguson should match strength for strength. . . . Essien will be used as a RB so i expect Ronaldo to nibble at him(He will be the weakest link).
United's midfield should start Hargreaves and Anderson . . . Scholes/Carrick must complete the triumvirate.
Anything short of this will be highly catastrophic as Ballack, Lampard, Makelele/Mikel will be too strong for Scholes and Carrick midfield.
Remember what happened against the Arses at OT? United's midfield was pulverised by strength and quick passing!!!!!

United's attack should be Ronaldo, Rooney, Park/Tevez.
Although, with SAHA not match-fit. . . . That might relegate Park to the bench with TEVEZ starting.
Saha might be introduced later to add aerial threat and penetration to United's attack.
I have never seen United squad this complete in a long while. . . . . everyone is match fit for what promises to be an exciting tie.

Predictions: Man Utd 2-0 Chelsea.

@ tkb417,

Don't u think Makelele and Ballack will be too STRONG for ageing Scholes?
Why waste subs when United have got so much strength on the bench this time around.
Scholes should start from the bench. . . . . The only reason he should even participate is because he missed the final of 99.
On merit, he shouldn't even kick the ball in Moscow. grin cheesy
Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by codedguy1(m): 1:16pm On May 19, 2008
@Xerxes

You are soooooooo right about the scholes issue, its because Fergie has insisted that scholes will play in the final, thats why any formartion we permutate here must take him into consideration. I dont think he should start atall, but we would have to live with fergie's sentiments.

I actually placed some players on the bench, cos games like this need serious tactical clout by both coaches, every expectations must be taking into consideration Albeit, extra time and pen.
Chelsea is a very stubborn team and they sure know how to grind out results.

If Essien plays @ RB for chelsea it would somewhat weaken their midfield.

The truth is, am really not comfortable, scholes starting this one, and Why do i get the feeling that even Giggs might play a part in this one, i hope its when we are leading 3-0 and 2mins to the end of the match. grin

Did u mention Saha's name, pls dont give me heartattack b4 the game starts ooooooooo grin
Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Xerxes1(m): 1:30pm On May 19, 2008
@ Coded guy,

Louis Saha is back. . . . . . Trust the plonker to get back when Russia came calling. . . . .
What amuses me is Fergie's relentless FAITH in the Frenchman. . . .You should see how Fergie was praising him during the Man Utd awards night.
I expect Saha to have a cameo appearance in Moscow. Giggsy might also have a say and Fergie should have learnt his lessons by now.
PLAY Scholes only if Anderson and Hargreaves are starting against Chelsea.

Strength for strength, pound for pound. . . . . .Anderson, Hargo and Scholes should match Chelsea(without Essien) in their midfield.
I will be watching out for Essien/Ronaldo duel. . . . .Tevez and Rooney can upset Terry and Carvalho.
United's attack is better than Chelsea's by a mile so i am confident United will nip this one.
Nuthing short of 2 quick goals in the 1st half then a very heated 2nd half is all ma crystal ball can see.
