What will you recommend to GON or the Minister of Mines and power as a way to Nigeria having a durable power supply.

its simple!

Let them stop distributing the money in big Ghana must go bags. . . let them instead focus on contracts from coys that are specialist in the field!

I think it is high time we start proffering recomendations for a way forward in our Country.Whether they will take it or not is left to them, but when we have the suggestions out there, then we'll be on the look out for a beffiting /suitable person to vote in and then petition the NASS.But unfortunately, alas, Nigeria and operations doesnt go like that.Let's not lose hope, redemptions comes soon,

Privatise PHCN and totally decentralise. Electricity generated in a particular zone should fulfill the needs of that zone with only the excess power being transferred.

The underdevelopment in the power sector presents us with the golden opportunity of micro power generation (residential & commercial).

Industries should be encouraged to invest in power generation. Households can use wind turbines or solar panels and sell any excess power generated back to the national grid.

I was under the impression that the government tried to privatise energy, but the people of NEPA refused to let that happen.

I am all for solar energy. It gives energy independence. My house will be powered by solar power.

@Poster, it is time Nigerian government starts working on giving individuals and businesses incentives to go RENEWABLE. It is being done in places like the US, Europe, and even China. I see no reason why Nigeria cannot, with all the waste, try something like that, even now. I believe it might help bring some of our industry back, till such a time as when we finally get the fire issue sorted out as a nation. The federal government itself needs to get off diesel and generator. With Billions alloted each year for that alone, no wonder there is not a bigger push to solve the problem and help clean up our air.

Firstly we need to elect a president who is serious about energy generation and a Light Up Nigeria programme[. S/He needs to be passionate about this programme and work intensely towards its success, not see it as a means to wealth for himself or his friends. Look at the success of the mobile phone industry in higeria. Huge sucess

Electrcity generation and transmission should be fully privatised with govt buying shares and providing poicy and guidance only. The programme should be handled by foreign firms with decentralisation even multiple compaines in various zones of the country. Supply freepay as you go electricity meters using secure cards like the mobile phone scratch cards.

Mulitple generating avenues such as hydroelectric power, fossil fuel, garbage fuel. Money is no problem , loans can be added to what we have already. The gains generated from a well organised programme will pay off all loans in the next ten to twenty years.

Use the USA or South Africa as a model to follow for electricity issue; South Africa preferably as I am aware they use the Pay as you Go meters

It is true and every one knows that corruption is the reason why Nigeria cannot meet her energy needs. But we can by-pass official corruption not by changing Nigeria (we leave that to God almighty) but by simply privatizing power generation, transmission and distribution.
