I wish to thank all Nairalanders for their outburst of sympathy especially to those who never knew AbdHameed when he was alive.

I weep not for him, but for the millions of Nigerians who unlike Yaradua and his acolytes  ,cannot fly abroad when they fall ill.

I have contacted the Nigeria Medical association, the Health Ministry and a few newspapers, if only to generate some discussion on this issue. Things cannot continue like this in Nigeria.

If anyone is aware of any senator or governement official's email I can write, please do not hesitate to contact me at andraskarrer-AT-yahoo.com

Thanks

It is really sad. But you need a little research to realise that Government Doctors in this country are in a sorry state.
This is the aspect the public continue to miss.
Some of us are always quick to condenm doctors and remind them of their duty to the society but do little to remember the society's duty to Doctors. It is time government woke to its responsibilities to Doctors.

What a sad tale. I just want to remind our leaders that on the day of judgement every shepherd must have to account about the afairs of their sheep and how they handled them.

The bus driver that knocked down this faithful servant of God will not escape his side of the judgement.

May the almighty Allah grant his soul eternal rest and may He put him and all of us amongst his faithful servants on the day of reckoning.Ameen

And for the friends and family of AbdHameed, may almighty Allah give them the fortitude to bear the loss and continue to provide for them their needs and sustenance without measure.

I know Abdul Hammed Agberemei personally. I can confidently say that he introduced me to the Islamic Intellectual Struggle. Unfortunatelly, I never knew any of his ordeals until I was told about his demise few hours after his funeral rite. Nigeria, like he said once, is uniquely anomalous. Just unfirtunate, he was a victim of the anomaly caused by our rulers. I feel for the Intellectual World. I pray for his humble soul and I pray that his wife, daughter, parents, friends and well wishers will have the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. Just as we await the next victim of this National Anomaly. Until we all rise to say NO

Abdul Hameed, My former Boss is dead! My Boss of Barr Communications!!!

I can't believe this untill someone called me and informed me that he is no more. A man who have respect for his country, I can remember in his usual word, he said he can't leave as an indigen of other country except in his country (Nigeria), but to which he gave up the ghost when the mere country cannot take care of him.

Haven read the article from Bro. Idris, it is now I feel the absence of my Boss whom I learnt a lot from him about Information Communication Technology (ICT). It is a pity that I have lost someone of a great integrity, faithfulness and ,

Abdul Hameed, where are you??!!

May you rest in perfect peace, may Allah overlook you sins, and grant you eternity. May Allah stay with the family - wife and daughter, parents, brothers and sisters of those you live behind.

To those who have caused the disaster;
the armed robbers, you shall surely meet your Lord one day;
the bus driver who ride on the wrong path, you shall,
to the foolish striking doctors who killed my boss, your life is at stake, you shall account for all those who died in your customdy

and finally to the Nigeria government whose life of the citizenry are less concern, continue to rule the world and see,  sometimes ago, it takes you nothing to take your Yar'Adua out of the country cause of his health, but we, your people are dying here, suffering,

To God be the glory.

Hmm. This world is such a small place. I am a Medical Doctor in UCH. Some days after the strike was called off, one of my consultants told us of a piece written in the Guardian Newspaper with the above title. We argued about it a little cos I didnt read it and he didnt remember details but I was of the opinion that no blame should be dropped at the doorsteps of the doctors rather the Govt should be told to answer for the lives of every citizen that was lost at that time.

Unfortunately today is the first time I am reading the full text of the article and Lo and behold I know Agberemi. His younger brother was my mate in Secondary school. When Agberemi had an accident, he was unconscious for several days. He was infact in ICU. I was at his side for a couple of days. I didnt know him personally but I knew his brother, Lateef - nice guy. Agberemi's improvement was miraculous. Infact I was amazed. After some days he was transferred to the ward and was on his way home. I infact saw him two times walking confidently on the corridor of his ward. Then I felt the worst was over and that he was on his way home. I became increasingly busy and I stopped going to see him. I did not hear anything again until today.

I weep now. I only conversed with him once. At that time he was still a little confused but the things he said then could only have come from a brilliant mind.

But are we to blame the doctors? Someone wrote "to the foolish striking doctors, your life is at stake , ".

No really are we to blame? Is it our fault that our government is not concerned with the health of the people of the country? They had enough ultimatum. They ignored it. We begged them to listen to us. Infact we begged them to negotiate. All the government understands is strike, confrontation!

Imagine during the period, one of the ministers opened his mouth and said "Why waste money on a sector, that is not producing money in return". Is that sensible. Is the health of the nation negotiable. Is the health sector a business venture that should generate profit?

As far as i am concerned, I know Agberemi. I am very sad he is dead. I also know a lot of other people that died during the strike. I am sad they are dead but I do not think the doctors deserve any blame. Infact medical doctors in this country should be called heroes for the kind of work they do in such frustrating working conditions imposed on them by this country.

Many people think that all the time that a strike is called, the doctors are fighting for wages alone. This is far from the truth.

The doctors did not kill Mr Agberemi. Let us ask our government to give account. They surely could fly Atiku to London for a sprained ankle yet they cannot equip UCH - the foremost healthcare delivery center in Nigeria with a laser knife.

What a shame!!!

May the Lord have mercy on us all.
