Am Scared Of Loosing My Career

I am an ND holder, i studied computer science, i luckily got a customer care job with a very good pay, i later discovered that i love and cherish the nature of the job, am already reluctant to going for computer science related courses that will boost my CV.

Please advise me, should I stick to this new career i found my self into, or should i go for courses on computer science, and please advise me on the courses i need to do that will be beneficial for me in future, thanks.

Fashlak, you are a very lucky person to have discovered a job that you love. I think you should create a new career plan based on this job. You could a plan that lifts you into management as a customer care specialist. wink

Fashlak,

A key ingredient for success is passion for excellence. You must be very passionate about your dream, for you to venture in turning it into reality. We are in the information age, and IT impacts on all areas of human endeavour. I would simply advise you consolidate on your current career, if you are so passionate about it, and consider how you can use your already acquired IT skills to make yourself outstanding in what you do. Remember, as they say, no knowlege is lost. Good luck.

Jesuloba.

Congrats, U have a good job BUT then go back and get paper qualifications that will boost your CV.where do you see yourself in three years?Do you think an ND alone will be what you need then? Most organisations require continual improvement from their staff;wrt education, self improvement and skills. You must not do full time study, part time study will do,at least it would not be written on the certificate. There may be a change in management in your establishment and the new mgt may require something higher. All da best

Nothing wrong with your passionate working in customer care career while you pursuing in computer science, look at me, i earned my computer information system bachelor degree but loved working with customer relation to help both departmental and customer satisfaction using my computer programming skills---where customer relation lacks of visually or dynamically.

For example you saw in customer care department---lot of manual paperwork being xeroxed too much wasting TREES (papers), use your computer programming to develop into dynamic automated letter form replacing manual paperworks that called electronic forms. Or you can develop new customer tracking system using your programming skills or you can develop human recourses management software using same skills you already pursed. NOTHING WASTE YOUR MIND, SOUL, AND HEART in your career you love so much!!!

Someday you will get promoted into customer relation management with computer science developing new dynamic electronic paperwork forms. Or you can change your college major from computer science to management with the emphasis in customer/financial/hospital. Think about it!

You will thank me for sharing my 15-years computer experiences for different industry other than technology jobs.

You have your blessed wisdom passionate carrer you have! Stay with your heart, motivation, and acommplishment in the quality of company's image/reputation to attract your customers coming back to your service. grin

One of the keys to a long life is enjoying your job. If you love your job and you aren't just saying it, and, comparable to what your peers are making in the Computer Science field, you are making more, stay where you are. Education is good, but don't fall for the title ("I am a computer scientist", "MBA, ICANN, PSC, FSN, PFON"wink crap. The list goes on and on of people who aren't doing anything whatsoever related to their disciplines, who are making piles of money.

In the end, what truly matters in life is that you are able to provide, **honestly**, for yourself and your family. In the end, for all you know, your fellow "computer scientists" may be struggling to pay rent but are hiding behind the veil of their "I am a computer scientist" ego to give you a false impression.

Bottomline: Stick with what you love - simple, short and sharp grin
