I visited Nigeria for the first last week and i was very dissapointed with the roads in Aba. who is in charge of road maintainance? for such a big country and so much wealth this is totally unacceptable.
Re: The Roads In Aba. by abiacc: 4:05pm On Dec 05, 2010
You visited Nigeria for the first time, is Aba Abia State the only place you visited?
If you don't have anything to say, you better keep quite and go back to were you came from.

This guy is obviously new to Nigeria and  this forum and this is how you welcome him? What is the need to come down hard on him, if you lived all your life frustrated because of bad governance.

@Abiacc

Haba, dont talk too harshly to her. She's not Nigerian, but married to one of us and visited the country lately. I've read some of her posts.

@trinigal

Well, you cant used Aba to judge the whole of Nigeria, though it's still a reflection of what Nigeria is. The country is actually in shambles due to corrupt leaders. I think that's how best i can explain.
Re: The Roads In Aba. by Nobody: 4:34pm On Dec 05, 2010
Abia state has known no progress since orji uzor kalu became d governour of that state. There is a conspiracy nt to develop Aba since it is d commercial heartbeat of the state whose natives are the Ngwas. Outside federal allocations, 90% of internaly generated revenue for the state is generated from Aba. They pay all maner of levies their but u dnt feel any goverment presence their. Residents in Aba pay for sanitation levies in thousands of naira ,infrastructural levy, pollution levy & all sort with goverment empowered touts mandated to enforce its compliance, this is only done in Aba. Aba is d diertiest city in d world dats if there is any english word like that. For yrs gutters in aba has nt been cleared and they pay for those services. All roads in Aba are delapidated, evn after paying d so called development levy. Its an intentional act nt to develop Aba because its an Ngwa land and the fear is that they will dominate other zones that make up the state, so its a state policy to underdevelop the city, milk it dry and leave it improverished despite d fact that other zones that make up the state and many igbo business men from other igbo speaking states do earn their leaving in Aba. Thats y their is an Agitation for the creation of Aba State so they can develop the city which have been self soucestaning from unset without any assistance from goverment be it state nor federal nt even any presence NNDC. Orji kalu from Bende handed over to another Orji from Umuahia and dat1 too has neglected aba but feeds fat on d IGR generated in Aba and installs kidnaping & insecurity and intimidation of d natives their. The bad roads and all d societal ills in Aba is delibrate and a state policy to undermine d city and weaken d natives and also alianate them politicaly too. Im writing from an insider perspective as well as an indigine.

I am not judging nigeria by my one weeks experience. I know that it is a very big country with lots of rich different cultures and besides i only spent a week in Nigeria so my experience is obviously very limited. I came in through lagos and went straight to the east where we spent most of the week. On our way back we did get to spend a day in lagos. i liked lagos, though i didn't like the experiences at the airport both coming in and going out. there were too many hustlers in uniform at the airport lol, especially on our way out. one frustrated sounding woman wanted to confiscate my children's medication and asked for money to release them!

i loved the beach that we went to in lagos. I also found the roads to be a lot better though the driving there was chaotic and crazy!

we spent most of the time in Aba and i found the roads to be horrible. we also visited umuahia which had better roads.

my question still stands though; who is in charge of road maintenance!

@ abiacc, you sound frustrated. go and deal with your problems!
Re: The Roads In Aba. by trinigal: 4:56pm On Dec 05, 2010
@byrron, thankyou for your information. i really don't want to get involved in tribal politics, knowing how sensitive it can get but all i know is that from an outsiders perspective the roads of Aba is a big shame. I believe that the politicians there should all be lined up against the wall and shot!
Re: The Roads In Aba. by Nobody: 6:13pm On Dec 05, 2010
I agree with Trinigal. The roads in Aba are in quite a state and have been for as long as I can remember. Shame you had to spend so much time there. Next time, insist your guy takes you to stay in nearby Port Harcourt, Owerri or Enugu instead. Those surrounding cities are miles ahead of Aba in every respect.wink

What we went for required that we stay in Aba as it is a few minutes drive away from the village. we had been planning to visit places like Calaba for the christmas carnival this year and also go to the waterparks in a place called Tiniapa, but the suddenness and purpose of this trip was such that we couldn't visit those other places in that short time. We arrived through the airport in owerri and from the air the town owerri looked really green and lovely with a lot of palm trees (there were a lot of what looked like untarred red roads from the air though lol). perhaps next time we will do a bit more touring to properly experience the sights and sounds of nigeria, which i believe is still a beautiful place!

I am in charge of the roads in Aba.
How can I help you sister Trilingual or is it Trinigal?

You better go and learn how to cook Oha soup/Ofe Owerri from scratch and don't worry too much about it. wink

I can't stop laughing today on NL. Here goes:

You mean you married someone without visiting his hometown in Nigeria?
20 children later, you are quarreling about the state of Aba roads?
Not even the size of his manhood? shocked
Your husband must be neglecting his duties.
Come to daddy baby.
Let me make you feel better.

This is really funny!

I shouldn't be responding to this seeing that you may have just been released from one of Nigerias mental institutions! anyway, your preoccupation with the size of a mans manhood speaks volumes about you!
Re: The Roads In Aba. by londoner: 7:03pm On Dec 05, 2010
@trinigirl, dont mind these childish responses criticising what you have said. If they are HONEST they will tell you that EVERBODY says the same thing about Aba. It is a disgrace, dirty, neglected etc.

I dont know why they are fronting as if Aba is not EVERYTHING you say it is, IT IS!!!

Its quite obvious that you were talking about Aba in isolation, as you did not get the chance to visit elsewhere in Nigeria.

Aba is an embarrassment in terms of roads, cleanliness etc, lets face the truth and stop fronting just because the poster is not a Nigerian.
Re: The Roads In Aba. by adconline(m): 9:41pm On Dec 05, 2010
Aba is a Devil's lab in Nigeria. There is no one in-charge. Kidnappers and Armed robbers are in in-charge
Re: The Roads In Aba. by Kobojunkie: 10:56pm On Dec 05, 2010
@Poster, the government is in charge but unfortunately, the government is knee deep in corruption that it does next to nothing in that state.
Re: The Roads In Aba. by Omenani(m): 10:59pm On Dec 05, 2010
Aba is in such disrepair and it is quite sad, because the city has so much potential. Blame the government in Umuahia for this nonsense. It is utterly corrupt.
Re: The Roads In Aba. by Ibime(m): 1:41am On Dec 06, 2010
Trinigal, you are very brave cos even me whose backyard is Aba would never visit Aba.

Abagworo:

And the Governor is bold enough to re-contest in 2011.

You need to see his new smiley faced posters. Each time I travel to Aba I wonder, so pathetic.
Re: The Roads In Aba. by Nobody: 9:34am On Dec 06, 2010
for those of you that despised the poster for her post, i would like you to take a trip down to Aba and see the state of the roads for yourself.

I reside and work in the city of Aba and i can assure you, what the poster said is just a tip of the iceberg. The roads are simply horrid. city sanitation is horrible. refuse can be seen at every single part of the city, spilling into everything. Even when lagos was at its lowest ebb, it was a haven compared to what Aba is. We have not even spoken about the lawlessness and kidnapping that almost tore the city in shreds some months ago. Aba is truly a filthy, God-forsaken city. I am appalled daily when i have to tolerate the bumpy rides (due to all the roads being horrible) and filth that this city is presently experiencing.

@poster- your point is well in place. but i can assure you, you saw just a little bit of it all.

Re: The Roads In Aba. by slap1(m): 10:10am On Dec 06, 2010
^^ Some pictures have been uploaded before. Google them up. I recall posting some myself of the Osisioma park.
Re: The Roads In Aba. by desgiezd(m): 10:33am On Dec 06, 2010
^^^ Just saw some of the pics now and they are so pathetic as if the state has no government!
Re: The Roads In Aba. by Nobody: 10:57am On Dec 06, 2010
^ when anyone is taking a survey of Aba township, Osisioma is not a yardstick to use. Osisioma is a suburb and its the only place in Aba where one can experience some sense of decency.

Why dont you see place like Ngwa road by East (roads here are non-existent),Ohanku, Okpu Umuobo, World bank,  Obohia, Ogbor hill, Yorke, Ajah road area etc. these will really capture the true essence of Aba.
Re: The Roads In Aba. by beneli(m): 11:47am On Dec 06, 2010
The unfortunate thing about the Aba situation and the politics of Abia state in general is that everybody – whether Ngwa, Umuahia, Ohafia etc – are all fed up with the present governor.

Word on the ground is that if there is a free and fair election next year Mr T.A Orji would NOT win and that he would most likely be sent back to where he’d come to government house Umuahia from – jail. Everybody seem to suggest that he is complicit in the kidnapping saga that had briefly overridden the state a few months ago, which thanks to the heavy military presence in Aba has reduced considerably. This complicity whether factual or mere conjecture would have made him lose in the next elections, but Nigerian politics get as ee be.

Presently Mr TA Orji is busy canoodling with JEGA and the PDP people at Abuja and also demonising Mr Akomas, his former deputy, whom he sees as his major opponent. Mr Akomas on the other hand, who seems to have a lot of Ngwa sympathy being an Ngwa man, is not exactly a saint as he is viewed as an Orji Uzor Kalu puppet and were he to win, would most likely continue to morgage out the state to thief Kalu and his family.

People are now at a loss as to whom to pitch their tents with. The alternative is APGA. Two of their gubernatorial candidates have potentials – Reagan Ufomba a Harvard trained business man, who as a Ngwa man seems to be gathering a lot of Ngwa sympathy. Unfortunately he is assessed to be a neophyte politically and some even suggest that he may have the patronage of IBB. Then there’s Dr Max Ndukwe Adindu, a US trained economist who has considerable political experience in the state. Word on the ground is that he fell out with TA Orji because he refused to be complicit in the squandering of the state resources. This is a plus for him. The only negative for him, politically speaking, is that he is from Umuahia the same place TA Orji comes from, and would most likely not get a lot of sympathy from the Ngwa-Ukwa axis in Abia South, who already feel marginalised as all their governors have been from Abia North.

As an Ngwa man, my heart goes with Reagan Ufomba. . . . but my head goes with Max Adindu. Whoever triumphs in the APGA state primaries in January, should be a much better alternative than TA Orji for Abia state IMHO.

I think Aba should just be sold out to a different country. Afterall they have already rejected governance by instituted authorities.

Aba is the worst place to be in Nigeria, infact, Ur husband even took a very big risk letting you and the Kids stay there for a whole week with the spate of kidnapping and all manner of political killings going on there.
Your assessment of the place is even nice, if I were to give a description of that city, I will say 'in shambles'. Anyway, do come again next time but make sure you visit other places like Portharcourt, Owerri, Enugu, Calabar, Awka, Lagos and Abuja then you will get a better impression.

Since she's married to an Ibo man I would believe her husband was aware of the happenings in Abia state. I believe taking her to Aba was a calculated move on his part; U know Ibos do this sort of thing. Clearly, he was hoping for something to "happen". Whats a better story than "She fell over the railing at sea while we were on a cruise" or "She walked out of the car when we were arguing and hasnt been seen ever since??!!!" lol. No story's better than "Political thugs saw my wife and . . . . " . U dont get what I'm saying? No? Okay, lemme ask you, do u have Life Insurance? Is he the beneficiary?

slowpoke the likes of you are the reason why nigeria is still backward, wat concerns the bad roads in aba and igbo people or are you tryin to tell us millions of people residing, schooling and working in aba from around the country are not humans?

educate us more on what you do for a living , i have seen your hate post in different threads ,your really a big fool.

@poster i know what u mean passing through aba can even be faustrating, but its good to experince the other side too especially if its where your husband is from. hope you enjoy the other parts of nigeriabefore you leave like nearby calabar and enugu city is amazing and very clean ,portharcour too is lively and abuja is awesome.
