Okorocha promises 2 new palm plantationsBy AKEEB ALARAPE

Friday, July 29, 2011

Imo State Government has started its plan to establish two new commercial palm plantations in the state with the assistance of Malaysian experts.

The state Governor, Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha made this known at a breakfast meeting with All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) leaders at the government house, Owerri.
Governor Okorocha, who recounted the efforts his administration had made since inception to take the state to an enviable height, said Imo would return to a palm produce state, with additional new palm plantation for commercial purpose.

He recalled that Malaysia developed its country through palm seedling collected from Nigeria, regretting that Nigeria was still at elementary stage of palm produce and stressed on the need to harness some of the natural mineral resources the state were endowed with.
He, therefore, called on the leaders of APGA and other leaders in the state to contribute their own quota by creating avenue for job opportunities and announced that the state owned oil palm plantation, Adapalm was now Imo Palm Plantation.
Governor Okorocha urged the party members to give their unalloyed support for the success of his government, pointing out that every success and achievement made by the administration would be a credit to all members of APGA.

The current administration, he said, was corruption free and would not condone any corrupt practices by any person and urged members of the party to exercise patience, as everybody would be carried along.
The state Chairman of APGA, Prince Cletus Nwaka, expressed satisfaction with the breakfast discussion they had with governor Okorocha and thanked him for chatting a course that would boost the state economy. He used the occasion to reassure the governor of the party support and love.

It doesn't take more than a pen and paper sir, if you are serious,

I'm tired of promises by these govt officials,  I'm sure he knows east was the biggest producer of palm oil,

Time to manipulate that history,  Knowing the world will soon be consuming palm oil at an increased rate because of alternative fuel, Nigeria will be silly not to invest heavily in this,

All these promises and no action means nothing!! nothing!!

Nigeria can shoot itself to the 21 century within 4yrs if we have serious people in government,  Theories, theories won't do nothing!!! Let's get practical folks!!!

No better than Fasola's voodoo publicity with which he has hoodwinked Lagosians in particular and Yorubas at large
Fasola plants flowers on streets, Lagosians hail him like a messiah.

The claim is that Rochas has the best publicity machinery and I put a lie to that. So far, Fasola's publicity machinery is unrivaled. Now back to palm oil business.

No it is not a good move at all

was it not the other day we all we complaining about the erosion caused by the palm plantation which has lossen the soil for erosion to take place.

http://allafrica.com/stories/201007120666.html

yet we are about starting another plantation without solving the obvious problem first which is erosion

Solve flooding in SW (Lagos, Ogun, Oyo)
Solve the fact that Lagos will soon be swallowed by the Atlantic Ocean
Solve desertification in the North
Solve erosion in SE and Edo and Cross Rivers.

No no no, it as nothing to do with the SW, North , SS or SE

this is a nigeria problem and it takes collective effort from all sides

1. flooding is being tackled in lagos as we speak
2. lagos would not be swallowed by the atlantic ocean because other major cities like new york and london would be swallowed first and more over, there is plan in place for that as there are building the a wall in lagos. don't forget. other nigerian states/cities such as river, balysea, bonny island delta and ondo would suffer the same faith.

3. plans are been put in place to stop the deserfication. even the locals are putting farm lands to reduce the effect.

4. erosion in the SE and other states will be solved by the FG but first this needs to be done before commercing into palm plantation which was the cause of the problem at the first place

This a wonderful move. With investments in the agric sector, our agric graduates can be properly employed and it will boost our grasp on raw. Hopefully, we'll get to the level of total freelance from the shackles of the honkies, considering the fact that we've gotten much scientific knowledge on to make good out of raw materials. By the time the whites will be living without adequate knowledge but dearth of raw materials, they'll come back to be colonized by the africans. The only inevitable thing is change.

that is not the reason it is a good move when there is still a major problem we have

Okorocha should seriously be considered for the Igbo slot of the presidency.

I kind of have to agree with Alj haram on this one. Although its a good idea, now may not be the time until proper mechanisms are put in place to check erosion. A palm plantation will add extreme pressure to an already extremity. It may be better for Imo to invest into terrace-building and No-till farming. After all, with the many plans Rochas has to increase IGR, he can afford to sit this one out.

Do you live in the moon.

There is no reason to compare Fashola with the rest.

The guy stands out.

This is a great shame. The Malaysians came to OGUN state to get palm seeds. Today they are the largest exporters in the world. To make matters worse, we now need to seek their help to grow something that orginated in our country. SHAME!!
