The Action Congress of Nigeria has said it is “mortally concerned” that the ongoing fuel subsidy issue is increasingly being turned to a sectional matter.

It  said this had raised concern about the agenda being pursued by President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party with the so-called fuel subsidy removal.

In a statement in Lagos on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said, “Going by the myriad of newspaper advertisements placed in recent times by several Ijaw and South-South groups and the inflammatory rhetoric spewing out of the mouth of respected leaders in the region, there may be a hidden agenda in some quarters to push the country to the brink, or even bring the house crashing down on all, as we have warned earlier.”

It said the increasing attack on other geo-political zones and ethnic groups as well as individual politicians by these apparently-sponsored adverts, simply because Nigerians had said ‘no’ to what they considered an insensitive and oppressive  fuel subsidy removal, “shows what can happen when a leader, through sheer ineptness and unfathomable headiness, fails to consider the socio-political impact of what he perceives merely as an economic policy.”

ACN said it was nothing short of a monumental insult for any person or group to infer that the spontaneous and unprecedented nation-wide mass action that had greeted the removal of fuel subsidy was being sponsored by the so-called failed politicians, or for any person or group to make such an irresponsible statement that the bulk of the fuel subsidy was consumed in Lagos, even when it was clear that Lagos was home to people of all ethnic groups.

The party said one of the groups even said it would not mind if the fuel subsidy removal – which it (the group) supports by the way – ends up making President Jonathan the last President of a united Nigeria.

“Imagine, for a moment, that this inflammatory and inciting statement had been made by a group other than the one from the South-South! Those behind such group would by now have been threatened with treason that is if they have not yet been arrested. Yet, this is the kind of rhetoric that these South-South groups have been ditshing out since the fuel protests started, and the Presidency has not deemed it necessary to distance itself from such dead-enders or to repudiate them,” the ACN added.

‘’Suddenly, a President that was purportedly given a pan-Nigeria mandate only a few months back is now being made to look more and more like a South-South President, who must be ‘protected’ by his ‘supporters and kinsmen’ against failed politicians from the other regions, forgetting that the same President won the last election because of the support of the other regions that are now been demonized.

‘’Progressively but sadly, the Jonathan Presidency is being defined as a South-South Presidency by those who have failed to see that the mess the country has been thrown into under his watch – over the fuel subsidy and the Boko Haram issues – is a fallout of a leadership that has lied to and cheated its people on the subsidy issue, and a presidency that has allowed the Boko Haram issue to fester for too long without a decisive and creative initiative to nip it in the bud.

Simply put, Nigerians feel betrayed by this President by the way he has handled these issues, hence he has lost their trust and confidence. This is neither a South-South Vs the rest of the regions issue, or the result of an incitement by imagined enemies,’’ ACN said.

The party reiterated its earlier call on all people of goodwill, including former leaders acting together, to call President Jonathan to order before he allows those who have other agenda, or those who are championing neo-colonial interests, to doom his presidency and push the country into perdition.

It advised President Jonathan that in a democracy, the people are supreme and their voices and opinions must matter on every issue, more than the self-serving postulations of a benevolent few who happened to have found themselves in government.

the same people SCREAMING for the impeachment of GOODLUCK gave all their support to Obasanjo until 2010 when the "film don finish" thats when they started "criticizing" him . You guys think other Nigerians are silly sha ! Don't over estimate your intelligence , the deception games of the YORUBA's worked in the 60's but its 2012 and NO MORE .

A chieftain of the Oyo State Action Congress (AC), Chief Femi Lanlehin, has regretted his support for the second term of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Lanlehin, a governorship aspirant in 2011 election noted that he and other Yoruba leaders who worked for Obasanjo’s presidency, did so in the interest of the Yoruba race.

But he regretted that they were disappointed in the end by the abysmal performance of the former President.

Addressing reporters at the premises of the Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Iyaganku, Ibadan, the politician, who dumped the Alliance for Democracy (AD) for the ruling party in 2007 to work for Obasanjo, decried the former President’s style of governance.

He said: "pt]We (Yoruba) rose in unison to say that Obasanjo must get a second term. Rightly or wrongly, he won the election but failed to justify this support. He woefully fai"led the Yoruba people.

"He got the opportunity on a platter of gold but wasted all this. It was indeed a disappointment and a regret," he

Ladoja ungrateful to Obasanjo

extracts

pt]during his second term, Yoruba supported him very well. The Afenifere people refused to recognize him due to their selfish interest. .

During Obasanjo’s second term, a lot of things happened. We started the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) because of Obasanjo to counter Afenifere. Papa Alayande, Papa Adewale Thomson, General Adeyinka Adebayo, Dr. Tunji Odegbeye and myself came together to form the YCE to give Obasanjo a base. We held several meetings in Ota for his second coming. It got to the stage we got involved in the planning of Obasanjo to accept second term. It was part of our strategy at that time. YCE was fully represented when we demonstrated to the whole world that Obasanjo has accepted, after so much begging.

So, definitely, Yoruba had a hand in Obasanjo’s second term. YCE was solidly behind him and he succeeded

may i remind you that during OBJ first term he commited the following crimes:

1. THE ODI MASSACRE.
2. THE REFUSAL TO PROPERLY INVESTIGATE BOLA IGE'S MURDER (WE ALL KNOW WHY .)
3. TOTAL DESTRUCTION OF NIGERIAN AIRWAYS.
4. FAILURE TO CONTROL THE ETHNO-RELIGIOUS KADUNA AND JOS CRISIS WHICH STARTED ALL OVER AGAIN IN 2001 , HE HAD A GOLDEN CHANCE TO CHANGE THESE THINGS BUT TURNED A BLIND EYE .
5. UNCOUNTABLE IMPEACHABLE OFFENSES .

YET the YORUBA'S decided to support him for A SECOND TERM . And now barely 8 or 9 months of goodluck's administration and the SAME SNAKES are asking for his impeachment . NA WA OH!

THAT'S THE SWEET THING ABOUT HISTORY AND THE ARCHIVES . THEY DON'T LIE !!! IN YOUR FACE YOU SLIMY YCE / ACN ODUA SNAKES .

Na wa oh . They have hijacked the whole aim of the occupy Nigeria protest and now its all about pointing accusing fingers at GEJ and asking for impeachment instead of sticking to the protest of fuel price reduction. BIG SHAME
