The level of training you get as an Englishman in the EPL is very valuable, because British players are relatively scarce in the league.

Another thing is that unlike foreign players who are likely to go to any country in Europe, British players are less likely to go abroad and prefer to stay in England even if it means playing at a low level EPL club or in the Championship

So you have an interesting situation where English clubs are desperate for EPL trained English talent, while English talent only wants to play in England.

That's why James Milner who I first heard of in JSS3 or SS1 is still playing in EPL today. Ditto Gareth Barry. I was shocked the day I saw Dean Whitehead on the pitch for Huddersfield one day - He is from the Bramble era, i think they even played together at Sunderland. i would also argue that 3 atb is just too defensive and the reason it worked well offensively last season was Diego Costa.
