hensben: Modric has been killing it from way back. Where is iniesta? What I'll not do is argue that Iniesta is better than Xavi and vice versa. Both did great and complimented each other extremely well. I understand the need for banter but are you aware that from Euros 2000-Euros 2008, the official(UEFA official source) team of the tournament was always a team of 22 or 23 players? This initiative was discontinued after Euros 2012. Meaning that from Euros 2016, only 11 players were selected till date. On the picture you have here, Modric is a legend and one of the greatest of all time but Iniesta also made the team of the tournament in 2008, this is fact and you can confirm from UEFA.com official source not BR-Football. Even goal.com has a different euro-08 team of the tournament. In fact, according to UEFA official source, Iniesta is in the Euros all time 11 but Modric isn't there. That means nothing to me because both are extremely good. I don't expect you to stop arguing but it's just what it is.... Before you continue your banter, visit UEFA official website! |

Itsrm: Not withstanding.
Messi has given it all for football and we are all fortunate to have witnessed this one in a life time genius. A world cup trophy is the least he deserves. Anyone who loves football and has watched Messi throughout his career will want him to win it. The bolded isn't true at all. Ronaldo has given his all to football and he deserves the world cup too. E sure me die say if the final was Portugal Vs Afghanistan, all Barca fans and Ronaldo haters will be supporting Afghanistan to win because of banter. Those who do not want Messi to win are still lovers of football but banter code must be protected. If Messi wins, it'll almost be impossible to troll him. E no too hard! |

popizaino: I watched a world cup programme on Supersport recently and the commentator said the 1982 world cup can't be mentioned without Rossi. IMO,for him to be remembered in that manner must have had him dominated the tournament. This is logical. Italy won the 82 Mundial and Rossi was the top scorer, scored in the final too. The scenario I'm trying to paint is simple; the game is for the winners only. There's no way Canavaro was winning player of the year in 06 if Italy did not win the world cup. Nobody will care about what Maradona did in world cup history if Argentina did not win in 86. There's a reason why Eusebio, Zico, Sucker, Baggio and even Sneijder are not really talked about in world cup terms. |

Ibime: History remembers the winner, if not we will add Baggio and Stoichkov in 1994, Forlan in 2010, or Cruyff in 1974. Zidane balled in 2006 but spoilt it in the final Exactly, the list is long...Eusebio, Zico, Sneijder etc. I've pointed this out in my subsequent post though. |

afrodoc2: Retrospectively we can use stats to knock him, but this was before the era of focusing on stats. He was the most dominant player on the pitch until his red card against Saudi and the same against. Like i said it was not Maradona levels, but he was the one who made that French team tick. But we agree that Rossi dominated in 1982 because of the goals he scored and not anything else. Just like sucker in 1998. I mean Rossi didn't score a single goal in his first three games in ESP-82. Without his eventual six(6) goals, nobody dead or alive will say he dominated 1982 world cup. It has always been about stats then who eventually won the whole thing. Zidane did great in 1998, but dominated? I'm not so sure. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by Nirvana101: 8:45pm On Dec 16, 2022 |
Ibime: Most dominant World Cup performances in order
1. Maradona - 1986 2. Pele - 1958 3. Ronaldo - 2002 4. Rossi - 1982 5. Kempes - 1978 6. Garrincha - 1962 7. Zidane - 1998
Messi can join this list, or become a Baggio 1994 performance depending on the outcome of the final. Winning the gold and performing in the final gets him on the list between Ronaldo and Rossi in no4 position. Losing the final turns him into a Baggio of 1994 I'm not so sure with Zidane-98. If you remember correctly, Zidane didn't really light up the tournament untill the final. Not that he was poor but when you compare his exploits to others especially Maradona and Pele then you'll agree that he didn't really dominate. If anything, Zidane dominanted 2006 world cup. All things considered including his age, 2006 was golden for him. He toyed with Brazil in the quarters. It's easy to forget Zidane-06 because, of course France failed to win and Canavro was awarded the world player of the year. For me, Zidane-06 dominated, Zidane-98 came alive in the final. I'll go as far as saying that, Sucker dominated France-98 not Zidane. But because Croatia failed to win the Mundial, his world cup legend faded to oblivion! |

donstan18: Nostalgia bias is a very terrible disease that must be erased for people to use their common sense to judge players.
Most of those guys were hyped and overrated.
Do you know how the likes of Benzema, Giroud, Hazard, KDB, Vardy, Rashford, Eriksen, Kane and so many players would have been hyped if they had played in the era of those fraudulent bums?
Neymar is the most talented and best player to ever Grace Brazil. One on one, he’s ahead of Dinho and that insecure Pele.
KDB>>>Zidane Salah>>>Henry Hazard >> Eric Canton and most ManU legends
2 best VVD season will always be bigger and greater than anything those Maldini and Nesta whatever were doing then.
Should I keep naming?
There was no social media to scrutinize and expose those frauds!! France demolished and mutilated Brazil in 1998 and nobody is talking about it till date. France won World Cup and Euros straight, but people only remember Spain doing it.
Those frauds were protected.
Ronaldo and Messi changed football expectations from fans, that’s why it’s difficult for any player to be rated now. Do you know what it means for someone to rate Pele and Maradona ahead of MESSI and Ronaldo??
What insult!!!!!
Kindly go through clips and stats of those overrated players of early and mid 90s, try recall those you watched in late 90s and early 2000s and you’ll understand me. Nothing special, absolutely nothing special.
I only rate players who kept their shiit from when Ronaldo and Messi changed world football and player’s expectations, from when social media started running proper agenda, scrutinization and propaganda.
Not those frauds. Drogba, Cech, Lampard and Terry should count themselves lucky for performing from 2009 till they retired. Na wah oo! |

I don't think Morocco will beat France and I hate the title; The reason why Morocco will defeat France bla bla bla... However, I don't know those who overhyped Senegal because they showed nothing throughout the tournament. For Morocco, defeating Belgium, Spain and Portugal isn't a joke and they deserve all the hype. Like I said, I don't see them beating France because France are well oiled...but as always, I rule nothing out and I still believe anything can happen. |

StarchAndBanga: Who cried better?
Still think Neymar was faking it sha.. Na na na.... With all the veins on his face? It's known fact that Neymar is a drama/theatrics king but there's no way he's faking those tears. I mean consider the following: 1). The last minute extra time equaliser by Croatia is heart wrenching enough even for the neutrals not to talk of the players. 2). He's already 30 and considering his injury records, this may very well be his last world cup 3). Neymar is yet to win a "first tier" trophy with Brazil considering Confed cup is no more FIFA listed. 4). Brazil were the top 2 favourites and he felt this was his chance 5). South Americans especially Brazilians are extremely emotional; They cry like kids when adversity takes the place of prosperity. I don't think he was faking those tears at all. The thing really pain am. E pain me too. |

Knockouts....Brazil are so stacked, they'll beat Croatia easily. Portugal isn't Spain, Spain played with kids, it'll be an easy game for Portugal. In fact Portugal will play semifinal...
