Politics / Saraki, Ekweremadu Arrive In Court For Alleged Senate Rules Forgery by nobleferguson(m): 9:54am On Jun 27, 2016 |
The trial judge, Justice Yusuf Halilu,
trying to organise the court,
asked supporters to vacate their seats
so that lawyers could seat.
Justice Halilu also asked journalists
and lawyers to leave the court.
He said names of persons that would
be allowed in would be called.
Lawmakers supporting the Senate
President are also locked outside the
court.
In the affidavit filed on June 10, the
Investigative Police Officer (IPO), swore
that the investigation into the case had
been concluded.
The affidavit read: “The charges filed
through the Office of the Attorney
General of the Federation, by the
Federal Government, against the
senators reads that you, Salisu
Abubakar Maikasuwa, Benedict Efeturi,
Dr. Olubukola Saraki and Ike
Ekweremadu, on or about, the 9th of
June, 2015, at the National Assembly
complex, Three Arms Zone, Abuja,
within the jurisdiction of this court,
conspired amongst yourselves to forge
the Senate Standing Order, 2011 (as
amended) and you thereby committed
the offence of conspiracy, punishable
under Section 97 (1) of the Penal Code
Law”.
It also accused them of allegedly
forging the Order, causing it to be
believed as the genuine Standing
Order, 2015 and circulated same for
use during the inauguration of the 8th
Senate of the National Assembly of the
Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Senator Saraki has maintained that he
knows nothing about how the rules
adopted in the inauguration of the
Eighth Senate on June 9, 2015 was
formulated.
He said the on-going efforts to drag him
into a case of forgery before the
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High
Court, was just another phase in the
orchestrated persecution he has faced
since he emerged as Senate President a
little over a year ago.
Saraki, in a statement by his
spokesman, Mr Yusuph Olaniyonu,
stated that he was not a part of the
leadership of the 7th Senate that made
the rules in question and prior to his
unanimous election as Senate
President on June 9, 2015, he was
merely a Senator-elect like all his
colleagues and therefore was not in a
position to influence the rules that
were to be used in the conduct of the
election. |

Crime / Governor Caught Red-handed While Receiving €400k Bribe by nobleferguson(m): 9:53am On Jun 25, 2016 |
The governor of the Kirov Region, Nikita
Belykh, has been caught red-handed while
receiving a bribe of €400,000 ($446,000).
The official was getting the money from a
company associated with the criminal case
of anti-corruption activist Aleksey
Navalny.
The head of the region in Central Russia has
been detained and a criminal case launched,
spokesman of Russia’s Investigative
Committee Vladimir Markin announced on
Friday.
Belykh was caught red-handed while
receiving the money in euro currency at a
Moscow restaurant, he added, saying that
investigators will seek the governor’s arrest.
The euro notes were apparently marked by
police.
According to investigators, Belykh was
getting the money for his actions in favor of
the bribe-giver, who controlled two
companies – the Novovyatsky Ski Plant and
Forestry Managing Company.
The latter entity is associated with Russian
opposition figure Aleksey Navalny. Among
its co-founding companies in 2010 was the
Kirovles (Kirov Forest), which was later
involved in the criminal case against
Navalny. In 2013, the activist was found
guilty by a Kirov court of embezzlement
within the Kirovles.
Originally sentenced to five years in prison,
Navalny’s sentence was later changed to
suspended, with a fine of 500,000 rubles
($7,700). |

Politics / Buhari Goes SPIRITUAL Over Niger Delta Militants, See What He Did by nobleferguson(m): 9:46am On Jun 25, 2016 |
Worried by the incessant attacks on oil
facilities by the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA,
and other factional Militants, President
Muhammadu Buhari Friday night went
spiritual, pleading with militants in God’s
name to have a change of heart over their
attacks.
The president who stated that he doesn’t
know how many factions of the militants
there are in the Niger Delta, said that the
groups were armed with sophisticated
weapons and that the economy was on its
knees following the bombing of gas
pipelines.
He also pleaded with friends and associates
of the militants to reach out to them for,
stressing that Nigerians do not have any
other country to call their own other than
Nigeria.
The president made the call at the breaking-
of-fast dinner with leaders and chieftains of
his political party, the All Progressives
Congress (APC) at the Presidential Villa,
Abuja.
He said: “I honestly don’t know how many
factions of the militants there are in the
Niger Delta compared to the north east
where you have only the Boko Haram
“The technology being deployed by the
militants to destroy oil installations is high
tech, the way they can go on high sea and
international waters and target oil
installations is a national problem. It is
affecting development.
“No insurance company will want to insure
installations that will end up being blown up
and no banks will want to finance such
installations.
“Those of you who have friends among the
leadership or even the militants themselves
should plead with them in the name of God
Almighty to take it easy.
“We need to stablise to create employment,
we need to stabilise the economy, I agonise
over these things. We are in a very difficult
time, so we have to organise ourselves.
Anybody that says he has any other country
than Nigeria should go out and see.” |

He replaces Dutchman Louis van Van Gaal, who was dismissed on Monday, two days after the club's FA Cup win. "Jose is quite simply the best manager in the game today," said United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward. Mourinho, 53, said: "To become Manchester United manager is a special honour in the game. It is a club known and admired throughout the world." He said he had always "felt an affinity with Old Trafford" and claimed he has "always enjoyed a rapport with the United fans". He added: "I'm looking forward to being their manager and enjoying their magnificent support in the coming years. "There is a mystique and a romance about it which no other club can match." Mourinho has been out of work since being sacked as boss of Premier League rivals Chelsea in December. "His track record of success is ideal to take the club forward," said Woodward. "He has won trophies and inspired players in countries across Europe and, of course, he knows the Premier League very well, having won three titles here." Politics / Militants Attack Chevron Oil Facility In Niger Delta by nobleferguson(m): 2:30pm On May 26, 2016 |
A Chevron oil installation in the Niger Delta was blown on Thursday morning in attack already claimed by the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA). The Thursday attack was the latest damage to Nigeria’s oil infrastructure that is dragging output to 20-year lows. NDA appeared to claim the attack late Wednesday in a statement on a Twitter account bearing its name that said it had blown up the main electricity feed pipeline at the Escravos oil terminal. We Warned #Chevron but they didn't Listen. @Niger Delta Avengers just blow up the Escravos tank farm Main Electricity Feed PipeLine. 12:01 AM - 26 May 2016 256 42 Niger Delta Avengers @Niger Delta Avengers The twitter account leads to a website which contains posts on the activities of the group. The posts were signed by one Col. Mudoch Agbinibo. The NDA, the most high-profile group to emerge recently in the increasingly volatile Niger Delta, has launched a series of attacks in recent months that have choked output from oil giants Chevron, Shell and ENI and helped push up global crude prices. The attack would “reduce Chevron’s capability to export crude oil via Escravos,” Dirk Steffen, from the Denmark-based Risk Intelligence firm, told AFP. “The main threat posed by this development is the severely reduced oil output, which puts further pressure on the financially constrained … government,” Steffen added. Chevron declined to comment on the attack. Earlier this month, NDA claimed another attack on Chevron, saying they had damaged a valve platform and later warning the company not to fix the broken infrastructure. The NDA also claimed responsibility for attacking Shell’s Forcados underwater pipeline in February, while earlier this week Eni declared a force majeure following an attack on its Brass Rivers terminal. “These incidents have raised fears of a renewed insurgency in the southern region,” PGI Intelligence, a London-based security analysis company, said in a May 24 report. “Pipeline attacks are likely to continue at their current frequency in at least the short to medium term, and the security situation could deteriorate further if a government crackdown on suspected militants provokes a broader backlash.” Nigerian junior oil minister Emmanuel Kachikwu recently said oil production had fallen from 2.2 million barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day — the lowest level since the 1990s. President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to restore stability to Nigeria’s south, whose oil exports account for 70 percent of government revenue. However, there are fears a heavy-handed response will drive others to join the militants, who are demanding a greater share of oil wealth for the impoverished region. .. it been posted by Mr Ferguson |
