Meanwhile, the Turaki-led PDP has waived screening requirement for Jonathan ahead of presidential primary

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) screening committee for Akwa Ibom State has cleared Comrade Johnbosco Udosoh to contest the Oruk Anam State Constituency seat in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

The committee, led by Chief Eddy Olafeso, approved Udosoh's candidacy, which the Ward 2, Oruk Anam native announced on his personal Facebook page shortly after the clearance.

Udosoh faces a significant uphill battle. Amongst other candidates, he will run against the incumbent and candidate of the APC, Hon. Sampson Idiong, who currently serves as Deputy Chief Whip of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

Idiong is also a brother-in-law of former Governor Udom Emmanuel, who surprisingly leads the Turaki-aligned PDP faction in the state.

Meanwhile Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly is currently dominated by the All Progressives Congress (APC), which holds 24 of the 26 seats, with the PDP holding just two.

Udosoh's supporters say his grassroots credentials make him a credible challenger. A former chairman of Urua Anwa Fruit Market and one-time student leader, he is credited with overseeing bursary payments, facilitating housing for widows, and supporting rural water projects in his community. He also leads the Oruk Anam Matters Initiative, a frontline civic advocacy group.

Before his clearance, Udosoh was seen offering early morning prayers at St. John's Pro Cathedral, Abak, a gesture his supporters noted reflected the spiritual weight he places on the task ahead. He also formally presented his nomination to his village head and the women of his community, seeking their blessing and symbolic endorsement ahead of the contest. The gesture was widely seen as a sign of humility and his deep connection to the people he hopes to represent.

Udosoh says his goal is to be a voice of reason in the state legislature. He has criticized what he describes as systemic failures at both the APC led state and federal levels of government, and pledged to champion policies that address the needs of ordinary Akwa Ibom residents, especially job creation.
