Dr. Olufemi Thomas the Former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) He announce submitted earlier today to clear the air on the $2.1million cash seized at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja- Lagos.

One Mr. Ibiteye Bamidele (pictured above), a bureau de change operator who was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for being in possession of the $2.1m cash suspected to be laundered, had implicated the ex-NHIS boss.

The suspect was however declared wanted by the EFCC on Thursday on the suspicion that he had absconded to evade justice.

But Thomas, a former Commissioner for Health in Ekiti State voluntarily submitted himself for interrogation on Friday at EFCC Headquarters in Abuja but denied that he was planning to run away because he did not get any invitation from the anti-graft agency.

Dressed in a white brocade, Dr. Thomas who arrived the EFCC around 10: am was drilled by the commission's operative to ascertain his level of complicity.

He was released at about 2:pm. However, the EFCC spokesman, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren could not be reached as at press time to confirm the interrogation.

His media aide, Mr. Sola Adeyemi had in a statement described his boss as a thoroughbred professional and dutiful public servant who would not stand in the face of the law.

The statement reads in part,"Dr. Femi Thomas is a law-abiding public individual that has treatable addresses in Lagos and Ekiti. He is a man that I work with and I know him for his words and actions. As I speak, we are yet to receive any formal invitation from any quarter on the allegation.


"For the avoidance of doubt, my boss is not on the run, he is in Nigeria, he is available and ready to present himself to the EFCC as soon as he is invited."

Prof Wale Oke, Chief Medical Director (CMD) in biggest leading hospital; State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) today warns all men that talk hobbit of taking what belongs to the baby to another level.

The medical doctor has begged his fellow men to allow babies to enjoy their natural meal.

He spoke at the World Breastfeeding Week on Thursday. The programme was organised by LASUTH and its Community Health Department in conjunction with the hospital’s Pediatrics.

According to him, the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding were many. He said: “When a mother breastfeeds her baby, it creates bond between them. It is also a natural family mechanism. Breast-feeding mothers do not have bone diseases, breast and ovarian cancers.”

Doctor Oke urged mothers who are working to also breastfeed, saying “working and breastfeeding can go together if mothers try because it is necessary to have healthy babies.”

A part-time lecturer at the University of Lagos, Akoka, Afeez Baruwa, has been arrested by the police in Lagos for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl, identified as Caroline
(not her real name).

It was learnt that the victim, who was reportedly raped inside a study room, was seeking admission into the University. Baruwa who was arrested by the Surulere Police Division on Monday, August 3 told the police in his statement that the sexual intercourse was by mutual consent, insisting that
he did not rape the victim. Caroline got to know the lecturer through her Dad because they both belonged to the same landlords' association in the Abesan, Ipaja area.

It was gathered that the victim's father had allowed her daughter to follow the lecturer on July 23, to UNILAG for an admission process.

According to reports, Baruwa allegedly took the girl inside one of the study halls, bolted the door, and raped her. After the incident, Caroline, who told her parents about the rape, was taken to a non-governmental organisation,

Mirabel Centre, where she was tested and the medical result reportedly confirmed that the teenager had been raped.

After the confirmation, Caroline was taken to the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender, where the matter was reported at the police station. Baruwa was subsequently arrested.

A police source in Surulere said: "The suspect is actually a friend of the father of the girl. The girl had written the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, and she needed assistance with the post-
UTME.

"So, the father sent her to meet and discuss with the lecturer. "But, it turned out that on July 23 when the girl visited the suspect, he raped the girl in the study room. "The suspect confessed to the act, but his claim is that the sex was by mutual consent." The Director of the Office of the Public Defender, Mrs.

Omotola Rotimi, said the OPD would write a letter to the UNILAG Vice-Chancellor on the incident, so as to ensure that such did not happen again to anyone. She said, "The victim's father wanted the lecturer to assist with his daughter's admission. On the fateful day, the girl left with the lecturer as early as 5.30am, and they got to the school at about 7am.

"No one had arrived at the hall except a woman. While the exams had yet to start, he raped her. She went home, and the father found out that her daughter had been raped. He took her to the Mirabel Centre, which then informed the OPD.

"The centre also contacted the police at the Surulere and Isokoko divisions, and the suspect was arrested. "We are going to defend the girl, and we are writing the VC. The suspect is said to be in the Department of Accounting. He claimed the sex was consensual, but that is not a defence." Baruwa, who is currently in custody, will be charged to court on today, Thursday, Aug 6th.


The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Patricia Amadin, confirmed the arrest. She said: "The suspect claims to be a part-time lecturer, but not an employee of the University of Lagos.

The Rivers state police command paraded a number of male and female criminals involved in kidnapping, robbery and killing of their victims in the state.


Speaking at the press briefing, the state police commissioner, Chris Ezike said three of the criminals paraded, Kelvin Ogbulaon aged 22, Chiwendu Akani aged 20 and Nelson Kacaranmoh aged 23 on July 7th kidnapped one Friday Ozogo around Elekahia area in the state.


For reasons yet unknown, the men killed their victim and hastily buried him in a shallow grave around Choba waterfront.
Despite their callous actions, the criminals continued to harass the victim’s family for ransom, and collected over N500,000.00.

They pestered the family until the Police through diligent investigation tracked them down.

They were arrested and they confessed to the crime and took the Police to the location where they buried their victim.
Also a female identified as Nne Jaju 22 and her accomplices, 20 year old Yenubari Sergeant and Wisdom Stephen involved in child stealing, were arrested after they broke into the room of a 7 month old baby girl’s parent’s home in the night at Mile 2, Diobu, Port Harcourt and quietly stole the child on July 20th.

The baby was taken to Nekede in Imo State and sold for N 200,000.00 to one Nkechi Anyanwu 45yeras old.

The accomplices of the buyer, one Francisca C. Chukwu 36 years and Joy Uzoechi both females, resident at Owerri were equally arrested and have made useful statements.


The corpse of their victim has been exhumed and taken to the Mortuary for autopsy.

Two locally made pistols using 7.62mm ammunition was recovered from them.
