Our physics teacher in school then used to exchange "period" for "fullstop". When dictating, he would say "period" at the end of a sentence and as gullible as we were, we kept on writing "period" on our books. So when he was marking the books at the end of the term, he kept seeing "period". Mehn it wasnt funny o0, we chop cain taya but at the end, he got the name "PERIOD" from us.
