A suspected armed robber identified as Terkaa Tsamber has been caught after allegedly stealing offering and other valuable items worth several thousands of Naira at Dunamis Church, Makurdi Benue State.

According to Nation newspaper, Tsamber allegedly committed the crime yesterday at the Dunamis Church on Modern Market Road, Makurdi.

The robber reportedly came into the church premises and made his way into the pastor’s office shortly after the second service ended around 10 am but a little girl sighted him with a gun and screamed for help.

Tsamber jumped the fence. The worshipers, who came for the Third Service, sighted him and chased him.

He was traced to a nearby building, which belongs to a top politician.

The robber carried an axe and a gun that had no bullet.

Some members of the church reported that an armed robbery gang a few days ago burgled the church, stole laptops, handset belonging to the pastor and the church offering.

“This morning, we were inside the church auditorium for the Third Service when we heard a little girl screaming and we all went towards the direction only for us to see someone jumping across with some items.

“We also went after him and traced him to a nearby building, not too far from the church. Immediately he (the thief) saw us in large numbers, he brought out a gun but there was no bullet and he dropped it and carried an axe.

“However, we overpowered him. That was how we caught him, and brought him to the church before we call the police”
a member of the church told the Nation newspaper.

The church’s resident pastor, Joseph Idakwoji, said he discovered that armed robbers broke into his office after the last Friday Worship and Wonder’s Night and made away with so many items including handsets, offertory, cartons of five alive and stabilizer.

Idakwoji said:

“When I came to the church office yesterday (Saturday) after our last Worship and Wonder’s Night, I discovered that thieves invaded the church and made away with things from my office. So, I prayed and told God that I am not going to lock the office back and that God should manifest his power and glory by allowing whoever that broke into my office to come back and steal again in the day time so that he would be caught.

“Behold, a few minutes into the third service, I was on the altar conducting the service when I heard some members of the church shouting and screaming ‘thief! Thief!!. He was caught and brought to the church. The area boys wanted to apply jungle justice on him but I prevented them and called the police, who came and picked him.”

Tsamber appealed to the pastor not to kill him, saying that he regretted his action.

“Truly, I don’t know what came over me. Don’t allow the people to kill me. I am ready to repent and never to steal again. This is my first time of coming to steal here. I don’t know those who came to steal from the church the last time,”
he said.

No fewer than 20 people were in the early hours of Sunday killed by suspected herdsmen in Okokolo village, Agatu LGA of Benue State.

The attackers, DAILY POST gathered, also burnt down several houses and valuables.

It was also gathered that corpses of some persons were yet to be found.

The Caretaker Chairman of Agatu Local Government area Council, Hon Usman Alilu, who confirmed the development, said he had directed soldiers to the troubled area.

“We are on top of the situation now I’m Ikwulono, thanks for your genuine concern and your tireless efforts,” the Agatu Caretaker Chairman said.

One Mrs Mary Adakonye, a Health Worker, sustained bullet wounds and has been rushed to hospitals for medical attention.

As of the time of this report, those confirmed dead included:

2. Mr Shaidu Magaji (a retired military man).

3. Mr Oloche Obiabo (Kaddo).

4. Mr Adehi Imaikwu

The task force on the recovery of government properties of in possession by the immediate past government of Imo State has threatened that its team would no longer adopt a soft approach to recovering of government properties in the hands of the past government officials.

The task force chairman, Jasper Ndubuaku, while briefing newsmen in Owerri noted that the forceful approach had become necessary following the refusal of most of the culprits to willingly submit the properties.

According to Ndubuaku, the task force would use the people aggrieved by the poor achievement of the past government.

“We would use the people to recover our property; most of them such as the mechanics have already indicated interest in working with us; by the time we move in with about 6,000 people, they wouldn’t have the choice than to submit them,” Ndubuaku said.

He, however, disclosed that the governor and his wife and some of his aides were not making their jobs easier as they continually held on to them.

“As I speak, the governor has about 60 vehicles including the outriders he was using when he was in government intact; his wife has about seven vehicles; his the driver has a land cruiser jeep.”

Ndubuaku while conducting the newsmen around some of the recovered vehicles, disclosed that seven vehicles were found in the premises of the former ADC to Senator Okorocha but added that one had been recovered so far.

He further disclosed that the 27 vehicles bought for the council chairmen during Okorocha’s tenure had been converted to school busses and missionary buses by those in whose care they formerly were.

“All the busses bought by the former governor for the 27 council chairmen in the state have been converted to school buses and missionary busses; even the 27 tipper lorries and payloaders have all disappeared; if you go to the ministry, even the smallest generators cannot be found,” Ndubuaku said.

The task force chairman who said they had been mandated by Governor Emeka Ihedioha to recover all the movable properties has vowed to do exactly what he was assigned to do.

Former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has attacked Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo over some of the issues he (Osinbajo) raised during his visit to the United States of America. Speaking in New York yesterday, Osinbajo had claimed that, “As at 2010, Nigeria had about 112.7million people living in extreme poverty. Nothing in place, there was no Social Investment Programme, there was no social security, no way of taking people out of poverty.”

But Jonathan, in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Tuesday by his media office and signed by Reno Omokri, said that Osinbajo has taken his lies to the US. He added, “My attention has been drawn to statements by the so-called Pastor Yemi Osinbajo, the deputy to General Muhammadu Buhari, in New York where, as usual, he made false statements to the media in an effort to explain away his non-performance in office.

“The statement [by Osinbajo] is a lie and it is very easy to disprove Mr. Osinbajo’s fallacious assertions. “According to the United Nations and the World Poverty Clock, Nigeria overtook India as the world headquarters for extreme poverty on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, when her population of extremely poor people ‘INCREASED’ to an unprecedented 87 million people.

“If, according to both the United Nations and the World Poverty Clock, Nigeria’s population of extremely poor people hit an unprecedented number of 87 million people in 2018 under General Buhari, how is it possible that there were 112.7 million people living in extreme poverty in 2010?

“If that were true, then Nigeria would have overtaken India as the world headquarters for extreme poverty in 2010, because as at that time, India did not have such numbers of extremely poor people.

“You see that no matter how far and fast Osinbajo’s regular falsehood travels, it will always be overtaken by truth. “The truth is that the period between 2010 and 2015 witnessed the most radical reduction in poverty, ever in Nigerian history.

“For instance, according to the annual Global Hunger Index published by the US based International Food Policy Research Institute, whereas hunger increased in other parts of sub Saharan Africa, for the first time since records were kept, Hunger reduced in Nigeria by 20% in 2013 under the Jonathan administration. I encourage my readers to Google this information.

“I should note that, according to the same International Food Policy Research Institute, hunger in Nigeria has risen every year since 2015. “Also, it is not true that there were ‘no Social Investment Programme’ under the Jonathan administration. On the contrary, the most successful social intervention programmes ever put in place in Nigeria, were introduced and implemented by the Jonathan government.

“This included the SUBSIDY REMOVAL EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM called SURE-P, whereby roads, hospitals and child care clinics amongst others were funded from the proceeds of the partially removed subsidy (including the ongoing Second Niger Bridge that this administration dishonestly tried to take credit for), headed by renowned industrialist and diplomat, Dr. Christopher Kolade and the Conditional Cash Transfer program to poor Nigerians and pregnant women (which the Buhari administration has praised publicly).

“The Jonathan administration also had several initiatives to turn around the lives of Nigerian youths including the Youth Enterprise With Innovation in Nigeria (YouWin), the Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS), the Presidential Special Scholarship Scheme for Innovations and Development scholarships (PRESSID) to First Class graduates of Nigerian universities to mention a few.

“That same government also built 165 almajiri schools to help reduce the 12 million strong population of out of school children in Northern Nigeria, as well as built 12 new federal universities.

“The policy of the Jonathan administration was that it was better to give Nigerians a HAND UP, via education and grants to start their own businesses, rather than give our people HANDOUTS of small sums of money that is essentially fish, but doesn’t teach them to fish.

“In conclusion, I will like to say again that Mr. Osinbajo has shown himself to be a man of very base character, who lies as much as the devil that he preaches against and whose behaviour has undermined the faith of genuine believers.

“It will be recalled that only last week, Mr. Osinbajo claimed that the 2019 elections were better than the 2015 elections, despite the verdict of the US, EU and AU to the contrary.

“It is now left to those who gave him the title ‘pastor’ to determine whether he is representing Christ well. Judgment Day is coming. And we shall all give account.”

EFCC today arraigned Senator Albert Bassey, popularly known as OBA, before Justice A. A. Okeke of the Federal High Court, sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on a six-count charge bordering on money laundering.



The Senator appeared in court today, following a bench warrant issued on him by the same court on June 17, 2019, for breaching the terms of bail granted him by the Commission.



The case against the Senator is hinged on the allegation that he took possession of six vehicles worth N204million, at the instance of one Olajide Omokore, whose companies had contracts with the State Government, at the time.



Investigations revealed that the said vehicles were proceeds of crime and that he committed the offence while he doubled as the Commissioner for Finance, Akwa Ibom State and Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Coordinating Committee, in December 2012. It is an offence which contravenes Section 15 (2) (d) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended) and punishable under Section 15 (3) of the same Act.



The vehicles are, Infinity QX 56 BP, valued at N45million; Toyota Land Cruiser V8 BP, valued at N40million; Range Rover, valued at N40million; Toyota Hiace, High Roof, valued at N27million; Toyota Hiace High Roof, valued at N16million and Toyota Hilux 4x4, valued at N36million.



One of the counts against him reads: “That you, Albert Bassey, whilst being the Commissioner for Finance, Akwa Ibom State and Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Coordinating Committee, IMDLCC sometime in December 2012, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, indirectly took possession of a vehicle (Infinity QX 56 BP) valued at N45,000,000.00 at the instance of one Olajide Jones Omokore (whose companies had contracts with Akwa Ibom State Government at that material time), when you reasonably ought to have known that the said vehicle formed part of proceed of unlawful activity (to wit: corruption) and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 15 (2) (d) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended) and punishable under Section 15 (3) of the same Act.”



He pleaded “not guilty” to the counts. In view of his plea, prosecuting counsel, Mohammed Abubakar, prayed the court for a trial date, to enable the prosecution prove its case against him.



Defence counsel, Solomon Umoh, SAN, informed the court of his client's bail application and moved same, praying the court to grant the defendant bail.



Umoh said: “The applicant in his application regretted the issuance of the bench warrant and explained his absence. The respondent has not disputed the fact that the applicant is on bail, granted him by the EFCC even as we speak.”



Responding, Abubakar strongly objected to the application on the ground that the terms of the bail application earlier granted the defendant by the Commission, were breached, hence the issuance of the bench warrant. He further urged the court to discountenance the submissions of Umoh and refuse the application. But after listening to the arguments canvassed by both counsels, the court discharged the bench warrant issued against the Senator and granted him bail.



While adjourning to July 2 and 3, 2019 for trial, Justice Okeke held that: “The defendant is hereby granted bail in the sum of N20million and one surety in like sum. The surety must have a landed property within the jurisdiction of this Court which will be verified by the court registrar, and the court registrar shall file the report of verification.”



The trial judge further ordered that the Senator should be held in EFCC custody, pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions.

Comparing Biafra to Israel, Kanu said there were attempts by foreigners to dominate Israel, adding that Israel failed to act because “they thought it was a joke.”

“After 2000 years, their land was no longer called Israel, it was called Palestine and they had to fight their ways. The Quoran says Jerusalem belongs to Israel. The Bible says Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. But today, Israel does not have full ownership of Jerusalem because of one mistake.
