Osun State government has declared today, Tuesday, August 20, public holiday for traditional worshipers in the state, tagged it ‘ Isese Day’.

This was contained in a press statement signed by the Supervisor, Ministry of Home Affairs, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Obawale Adebisi, the copy which was made available to newsmen in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Monday.

According to the statement, traditional worshipers in the state were enjoined to use the occasion of the celebration to pray for the state government for a special grace to take the state to a greater height.

It also charged them to be vigilant and peaceful during the festival and never hesitate to fish out and hand criminal elements among them over to law enforcement agencies.

” We enjoin the traditional worshipers to pray for the State Government and other stakeholders who are saddled with the responsibilities of moving the state to the next level to accomplish the task ahead.

” We also implore them to be peaceful and law abiding in the course of their celebration.

” Worshippers must not hesitate to report suspected hoodlums in their domains to the law enforcement agencies, as we urge hem to continue to support the government by exercising their civil responsibility through prompt payment of taxes and levies and live in harmony with other religious worshippers to allow the government to concentrate on the development of the state”, the statement read.

One problem with many persons in the state is that they have this mentality that government has all the monies to provide development in all sectors.

Do you know that Kogi, Benue and so many states earn bigger Federal allocation than Enugu State?

In fact, Enugu is the third state in Nigeria with least Federal Allocation. Enugu is a civil service state.
There is no factory, no big market nothing that generates revenue to government yet you have all the integrated developments going on in the state at the speed of light.

We have refused to acknowledge the fact that Ugwuanyi is the only governor that not traveled abroad since he became governor yet he was able to bring Morocan investors to come establish fertilizer factory in the state.

The tax paid by few companies like Innosson and banks in the state goes to the joint tax board which is shared between Federal Government and the state. The state spent more than 22 billion on Federal roads last year alone without reimbursement.

The state spent billions of naira refurbishing and equipping Federal Fire Services and Nigerian Prison services in the state without refund.

If you say the governor should leave them because they belong to Federal Government, I will ask you who are the major beneficiaries? In the last five years, Enugu has not witnessed any casualty in fire infeno because of Ugwuanyi.

This is a governor has not taken any loan since he came yet he kept servicing huge domestic and foreign loans incured by past governments.

Apart from salary, all other expenses of the police and most security agencies in the state are been catered for, by the state yet the security organisations are not answerable to the state CSO. We saw how Mbu as police boss dealt with Amaechi as Rivers State governor. We saw how former governor Yari resigned as CSO because of similar fate.

Now, it is only an ingrate or a person suffering from acute ignorance that will castigate Ugwuanyi or say he is not working.

Finally, let me inform you that there is high cost of accommodation in Enugu is because people like still wants development to concentrated in your three LGAs.

The best solution to bringing down cost of accommodation is by developing other areas in the state which is what the governor is doing.

For instance, what is bringing people to the state is school and work. Agbani became a town because Chimoarke moved ESUT to Agbani.

Now Ugwuanyi has approved the building of the first ever University of Education in the entire South east at Awgu LEA while building another state secretariat at NSukka. These are policies and programme that arrest that accommodation cost.

Housing Estates in Enugu East, Enugu South and Enugu North for civil servants is another work.

Before now, there use to be conflict between labour and government in Enugu State, but since Ugwuanyi came on board, there have been peace and harmony.

Workers are been paid on the 23rd of every month and also paid 13th month salary in December when they have worked for 12 months. Which government has ever done that?

Even when Federal Allocation to Enugu State was high, previous governments in the state went to court severally over payment of minimum wage, but since 2015 and even with lean resources coming to the state, workers are been paid full salary with bonuses. Where else has that ever happened in Nigeria if not in Ugwuanyi's Enugu?

Before now, instead of recruiting more and more people in to the civil service, all that was done was retrenchment or outright sack, but since 2015, we have seen a surge in employment. Example, the employment of 4000 teachers, the employment of over 800 youths to keep the state clean, the recruitment of 5,200 personal with full salary in to the state's neighbourhood watch or local security outfits as well as the recruitment of 1,700 personnel to work as Forest Guards. Less than two weeks after the Southeast Governors resolved to establish forest guard in the region, Enugu State is the first and only state to have done that.

In the case of infrastructure, go to rural areas and see virgin roads been constructed. Even in the cities, we have new roads like the Milkanhil roads, Opi-Nsukka roads, Inyi-Akpugo Eze roads, Inyi-Mmam River road etc been contructed.

Like I said earlier, you are been recruited to denigrate the governor for personal and selfish interest.

But Enugu will continue to be in the hands of God.
