The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has confirmed that Rwanda is dealing with 27 cases of Marburg Virus Disease (MVD), resulting in nine deaths as of September 30, 2024.

This information was disclosed in a press statement issued by Africa CDC on Tuesday.

The Republic of Rwanda’s Ministry of Health officially declared an outbreak of the Marburg virus on September 27, 2024.

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has expressed concern over the vulnerability of Designated Non-Financial Businesses and Professionals (DNFBPs) to criminal exploitation, describing the sector as an all-comers affair prone to abuse.

Mr Olukoyede emphasised the need for a stronger commitment to the implementation of Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) measures in Nigeria.

The Federal Government has approved an increase in corps members’ monthly allowance to N77,000, effective from July 2024.
