Business / Folawiyo Energy Says It Has Not Had Own Product In 3 Months. by OakTV: 2:47pm On Dec 13, 2015
Folawiyo Energy Limited (FEL) has firmly affirmed its innocence of any infractions of the regulations that guide the sales of petroleum products. The company said that it has not had its own products in storage for the past three months, during which it has only stored and distributed products for the NNPC, without any involvement in collecting payments from the companies taking the NNPC stock. A company spokesperson said that FEL has notified the appropriate authorities of these facts and has protested the unfair attempt to tarnish its corporate reputation.

A statement signed by Adeshola Komolafe, public relations consultant to FEL, said that: “Our attention has been drawn to a statement purportedly issued by the spokesperson of the DPR announcing sanctions on our company for allegedly "allowing Sahara Energy to use its depot to sell above the stipulated price".

“The management of Folawiyo Energy Limited (FEL) has affirmed that its operations conform to best practice and are not in breach of any regulations. FEL is not involved in any conduct that could either invite fines or be construed as selling fuel stocks above regulated prices. How can you sell product you don't have?

“FEL's Apapa depot has not held commercial stock since 20 September 2015. Operations at the depot since that date have been purely about dispensing NNPC and other third party stock, which is done following clear procedures and without any involvement by the company in charging or collecting payment for the stock. FEL has acted merely as storage and throughput providers. Therefore there is no way that FEL would be involved in the unseemly practices that have been unfairly and baselessly alleged. If there is a case against any importer that is squarely between the DPR and that importer. It is beyond conception that the company could be held responsible for a policing/monitoring function which it is neither able not equipped to do.

“FEL cherishes its reputation for proper conduct and has through proper channels vehemently protested this unfortunate attempt to besmirch its name. We have always been partners in progress with the DPR and all agencies of government and strongly believe that the necessary corrections will be made.”

Politics / Crude oil fraud: NEC mandates Oshiomhole, el-Rufai, Dankwambo, Udom to check NNP by OakTV: 12:28pm On Aug 04, 2015
The National Economic Council (NEC), on Monday, set up a four-man committee to examine the accruals into and withdrawals from the Federation Account and the Excess Crude Account from 2012 to May 2015. The committee was set up at the 58th meeting of the council in Abuja, which was re-inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari, under the chairmanship of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. The Chairman of the Governors Forum and Zamfara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari; Governors Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna) and Emmanuel Udom (Akwa Ibom), made this known to State House Correspondents at a joint briefing. “We have gotten the report from the Excess crude – what is there and what is not there. Also, the council got the briefing from the Director of Funds on the unremitted funds by the NNPC. “On that line, a four-man committee was constituted to go through the books of the NNPC and the Excess Crude Account as well as the Federation Account. “The four-man committee are the Governor of Edo State, the Governor of Akwa Ibom, the Governor of Gombe State (Ibrahim Dankwambo) and Malam el-Rufai (Governor of Kaduna state). “They are to check the books of the NNPC, especially the issue of the Excess Crude and what is not remitted to the Federation Account.“ Yari said the council deliberated on a number of issues concerning the states and their programmes. He said the Federal Government, in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), would look inwards to see how much support they could give to states, more especially on the issue of outstanding salary in some of the states and the Federal Government. He said that Buhari had insisted that the provisions of the constitution be implemented with regard to remittance of all federal money into the federation account “which must, henceforth, be followed strictly”. “He insisted on putting in Section 80 and Section 162 of the constitution which says that all monies should go into the federation account. “Some revenue generating agencies are not paying. He mentioned NNPC, NPA, Customs, NIMASA, FIRS, CBN, and many others. “So, all these revenue generating agencies, the council expects that their funds should go into the Consolidated Federation Revenue Account as directed by the President”. Expatiating further, Oshiomhole said it was the first time the NEC met in which under the instructions of the President, NNPC and the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation were compelled to provide information on issues related to the sales of Nigeria’s crude from 2012 to May 2015. “This has not happened before and for us, this is profound – talking about transparency, talking about change. “And what we saw from those numbers, which I believe Nigerians are entitled to know, is that whereas the NNPC claimed to have earned about N8.1 trillion, what NNPC paid into the Federation Account in 2012 all through 2015, end of May, was N4.3 trillion. And NNPC withheld and spent N3.5 trillion. “Now, the major revelation here for me is that the entire Federation, that is the Federal government, the state governments and all the 774 local governments, the amount the NNPC paid into the Federation Account for distribution to these tiers of government came to N4.3 trillion and NNPC also took and spent N3.5 trillion “Which means that the cost of running NNPC is even much more than the cost of running the Federal Government. That tells you how much, talking about what is missing, what is mismanaged, what is stolen, there are huge numbers here.“ The governor said the former Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, reported by November 2014 “that we had $4.1 billion but today, the Accountant General office reported that you have $2.0 billion in the account’’. el-Rufai said the excess crude account was established by the Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration. “It was part of the administrative arrangement to save for a rainy day. It was meant to have very clear accountability so that every state and the local government at any point in time know the balance in the account.”. He said that before any money would be spent from the account, the Federal Government and states needed to agree. “That was how we agreed to build the seven power stations that are NIPPs today. We also met and agreed to build the Lagos-Kano Standard Guage Rail-line from the account; but what we have seen in the last few years is that the account is being operated unilaterally by the Federal Government. “Drawings were being made without consulting those that actually own the money,“ he said. The account is 52 per cent under the FG and 48 per cent owned by the states and the local governments.

Politics / Boko Haram Leader Shekau Absent From Latest Video by OakTV: 11:12am On Aug 04, 2015
Boko Haram has released a new video on the insurgency in Nigeria, with its leader Abubakar Shekau again failing to appear in it. His continued absence has increased speculation about his fate.

He was last heard from in March, when he released an audio message pledging allegiance to the Islamic State (IS) group.
Soon thereafter, Nigeria’s military said it had recaptured all towns and cities from Boko Haram.

In the eight-minute video, an unidentified young man spoke in the name of the Islamic State in West Africa calling on people to be patient: “We are still present everywhere we had been before.”

The video showed the militants attacking a security checkpoint, seizing weapons, and slitting the throat of a man dressed in a police uniform.

Shekau also failed to appear in a Boko Haram video released in June.

According to the BBC, this will renew speculation that he is either deep in hiding, or has been wounded and even killed.
Regardless of Shekau’s fate, it was clear from the video that some militants in Nigeria are still determined to fight.

The video is gruesome, but its production sleek, suggesting that it was produced with the help of IS-allied propaganda units, said the BBC.

The young militant spoke in the regional Hausa language, with an accent from the Kanuri ethnic group, to which Shekau belongs.

Shekau became Boko Haram leader following the killing of the terror group’s founder, Muhammad Yusuf, in police custody in 2009.
Previous reports about his death proved to be untrue.

He sparked global outrage when Boko Haram abducted more than 200 girls from a boarding school in Chibok town in Borno State in April 2014.

In another incident, members of the group were reported to have renewed attacks on border villages in Adamawa State and its environs resulting in the death of five persons in Madagali Local Government Area of the state.

The member representing Madagali in the Adamawa House of Assembly Emmanuel Tsamdu made the revelation monday to journalists in Yola, the state capital.

Tsamdu said that due to the upsurge of attacks on the local council, the communities have been forced to arm and equip 200 vigilantes in the area to stem the tide of attacks.

He revealed that the latest attack launched on Kolbachuwa village, which claimed five lives, was preceded by other deadly attacks in the same council.

Tsamdu, who called on the state government to reinforce security in the area, said residents have been living in fear following the advancement of the rainy season, as insurgents were known to hide in the cover of the rain to attack his people.

He added that many insurgents were still hiding in surrounding mountains across the local government, disclosing that it was from these hideouts in the surrounding mountains the insurgents launched their attack on mostly farmers.

He maintained that many such attacks had occurred in Midigu, Lanssa, Immirsa, Kubula, Sabon Gari and Wagachakawa villages in the last five days, with scores feared killed by the insurgents.

Tsamdu added that the community had briefed the military authorities in the state and called on the army to hastily secure the areas to avert further loss of innocent lives.

Politics / Re: Buhari, Fashola, Amaechi & Ambode At Organised Private Sector Meeting In Lagos by OakTV: 5:15pm On Feb 03, 2015
The difference between APC and PDP – Governor Fashola

peaking during an APC meeting with organized private sector at Marina, Lagos, the Lagos state governor, Babatunde Fashola, told his audience the difference between APC & PDP

“The manifesto of the APC is designed to address 2015 problems going on to 2019 while PDP has is a 1999 manifesto and that probably explains the disconnect between our realities and the realities that you hear. The transformation that has been put forth has headed south not west. The Naira has weakened, interest rates has come up and it is for us to chose whether we want four more years of that and the Naira is essential in a free fall in an economy that is currently import denominated and it would only mean that the purchasing power of our disposable income would continue to reduce.” he said

“The necessity of now is to halt that free fall. That is something we cannot vote continuity on. I will not. But more importantly as the candidate, Gen Buhari, has said, it is essentially not how much really Nigeria earns, it is what value we get out of that money. If we had sold crude oil, our major income earner for like almost 5-6 years at over a $100 per barrel and all of us are saying there is pain, do we want to continue now when there is reduced income with the same team on the same management capacity. If they couldn’t do topnotch at $100 per barrel, can we trust them to do more with less?” he added.
