CrimeTeacher Killed In Oyo School Attack To Be Buried In Ogbomoso by Obasa333(op): 5:50am On May 22
One of the teachers killed during the deadly attack on schools in Oyo State, Adesiyan Adegboye, will be laid to rest today in Ogbomoso following the tragic incident that shocked residents across the state.

According to details from the burial programme obtained in Ibadan, the 49-year-old teacher will be buried at his residence located in the Owolake area of Ogbomoso.

Adegboye was reportedly killed during the coordinated attack carried out by suspected bandits on multiple schools in Oriire Local Government Area last Friday around 9:30am.

The attacks targeted Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School, Esiele, where several teachers and students were abducted by the attackers.

The tragic incident sparked fear and tension across Ogbomoso and nearby communities, forcing many parents to rush to schools to pick up their children while some schools reportedly shut down over safety concerns.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, had earlier visited the affected communities and deployed additional detectives from Abuja to support ongoing rescue operations aimed at securing the release of the abducted victims.

Governor Seyi Makinde previously confirmed that several pupils and teachers were kidnapped during the attack, while at least one person lost their life.

The incident has continued to generate widespread concern over rising insecurity and attacks on schools in different parts of the country.

Politics“fake News” — Presidency Denies Tinubu’s Alleged Plan To Rename Nigeria by Obasa333(op): 5:40am On May 22
The Nigerian Presidency has dismissed reports claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is planning constitutional amendments to rename Nigeria the “United States of Nigeria” and abolish Sharia law in the North.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Presidency described the viral report as false, misleading, and politically motivated ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The statement, signed by Bayo Onanuga, said the story was fabricated by unnamed individuals seeking to create tension and political instability in the country.

According to the Presidency, President Tinubu has no plan to introduce any constitutional amendment bill allegedly code-named “Project True Federation” to the National Assembly.

“The Presidency wishes to inform Nigerians and state clearly that there is no truth to the viral fake story claiming that President Bola Tinubu seeks to carry out constitutional amendments that will change Nigeria’s name to the United States of Nigeria and abolish Sharia Law in the Northern region,” the statement read.

The Presidency further explained that constitutional amendments in Nigeria require a rigorous legal and legislative process, including approval by two-thirds of both chambers of the National Assembly and endorsement by at least 24 State Houses of Assembly.

It stressed that such changes cannot be carried out based on the wishes of a President alone.

Onanuga also accused those behind the report of attempting to destabilize the country politically as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.

“Nigerians should ignore the viral story in its entirety because the purveyors of the fake news are agents of destabilisation and merchants of disorder,” he stated.

The Presidency maintained that President Tinubu remains focused on economic reforms and governance rather than constitutional controversies.

The denial comes amid rising political tension and increasing political activity ahead of the 2027 election season, with party primaries already beginning across different parts of the country.

CrimeTerrorists Displaced By Military Operations Responsible For Oyo Kidnap Attack by Obasa333(op): 5:31am On May 22
The Defence Headquarters has revealed that the recent kidnap incident in Oyo State was carried out by terrorists displaced from other parts of the country following intensified military operations.

According to the military high command, the attackers behind the abduction in Oyo were members of the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) terrorist group who allegedly fled to other regions after sustained offensives by Nigerian troops.

In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, the military dismissed reports claiming the Defence Headquarters referred to terrorists operating in the South-West as ordinary criminals.

The DHQ described such reports as “misleading and mischievous,” insisting that the military has never downplayed the threat posed by violent terrorist groups.

“The recent incidence of kidnap in Oyo State was clearly perpetrated by terrorists of the JAS Group that have been dislodged from other parts of the country due to high-intensity operations being conducted all over,” the statement read.

The military explained that its earlier comments on security concerns in the South-West were intended to provide intelligence-based clarification and avoid unnecessary panic among residents.

The clarification comes after armed terrorists reportedly attacked communities in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, abducting pupils, teachers, and residents from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle.

The incident reportedly left several persons dead, while one of the abducted teachers, Michael Oyedokun, was later confirmed killed after a disturbing video linked to the attack surfaced online.

The Defence Headquarters assured Nigerians that troops remain actively deployed across affected areas in collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders to track down terrorist networks and restore security.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain resolute in dismantling all criminal and terrorist networks threatening the peace, stability and unity of the nation,” the statement added.

The latest development has renewed concerns over the spread of terrorist activities beyond the North-East, with many Nigerians calling for stronger security measures across the country.

PoliticsGowon: Ojukwu Pawned Biafra’s Mineral Wealth To Rothschild During Civil War by Obasa333(op): 6:41am On May 20
Nigeria’s political and military history has exploded back into public conversation after former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, made stunning revelations in his newly released autobiography.

In one of the most talked-about parts of the book, Gowon claimed that a young Olusegun Obasanjo once flatly refused to serve under Murtala Muhammed during the Civil War because he believed Murtala was his junior in rank.

According to Gowon, Obasanjo allegedly told him he would “never” serve under Murtala for any reason.

The former military leader said he had to personally intervene as Commander-in-Chief and insist that Obasanjo obey military authority and accept the assignment.

Gowon wrote that the disagreement happened after he created a Rear Command structure for the newly formed 2 Division under Murtala Muhammed, while Obasanjo was expected to operate from Ibadan in support of the operation.

But the drama did not stop there.

In another explosive revelation, Gowon claimed that Biafra leader Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu secretly pawned Biafra’s mineral wealth to the Rothschild banking family in exchange for foreign-backed support during the Nigerian Civil War.

According to the autobiography, Gowon said the deal was worth around $10 million at the time and was tied to French interests backing the Biafran struggle.

The revelation has already triggered intense reactions online, especially among Nigerians debating the true history of the Civil War and the political relationships between some of the country’s biggest historical figures.

Gowon also revealed how Nigeria was forced to turn to the Soviet Union for weapons after both the United States and Britain allegedly refused to supply arms to Nigeria during the war.

He said the Soviet Union eventually supplied fighter jets and military support that changed the direction of the conflict.

Another surprising moment from the book involved businessman Ali Jamal, a Lebanese trader Gowon described as one of the men who secretly helped Nigeria secure weapons and ammunition when the country was running dangerously low during the war.

The autobiography, titled My Life of Duty and Allegiance, is already being described as one of the most controversial Nigerian political memoirs in years because of the sensitive details involving military leaders, foreign governments, and Civil War politics.

Across social media, Nigerians are now debating whether these revelations finally expose hidden truths about the war or simply reopen old national wounds.

One thing is certain — the book has reignited conversations many believed Nigeria had buried long ago.

PoliticsEl-Rufai: NSA, ICPC Chair Confirmed Tapped Conversation – Witness by Obasa333(op): 6:27am On May 20
The trial of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over alleged treason and breach of national security resumed on Tuesday at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

At the sitting, a prosecution witness told the court that the National Security Adviser and the chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission confirmed the authenticity of a conversation allegedly referenced by El-Rufai during a television interview.

The prosecution played before the court a 43-minute interview granted by El-Rufai on Arise Television, during which he allegedly claimed that a private conversation involving the NSA, Nuhu Ribadu, had been intercepted and forwarded to him.

The former Kaduna State Governor is facing an amended five-count charge over alleged unlawful interception of communications involving the NSA and alleged threats to national security.

The Federal Government, through the Department of State Service, accused the former governor of unlawfully intercepting communications contrary to the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024.

According to the witness, investigators subsequently interviewed Ribadu, who reportedly confirmed that the conversation referenced by El-Rufai took place between him and the ICPC chairman.

The witness added that the ICPC chairman also confirmed the discussion after portions of the interview were played to him.

In the broadcast played in court, El-Rufai allegedly defended the interception by arguing that governments routinely monitor communications.

The prosecution further told the court that the programme’s anchor, Charles Aniagolu, activist-lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, and a cameraman attached to the station were invited for questioning as part of the investigations.

Investigators said Aniagolu confirmed that El-Rufai admitted during the interview that someone intercepted the conversation and sent it to him, while also insisting that such practices were common among governments.

Statements obtained from Aniagolu and Adeyanju were admitted in evidence as Exhibits C, C1 and E without objection from the defence.

Another statement made by an Arise TV cameraman, Ugochukwu Agalayana, was admitted as Exhibit D after he confirmed setting up the recording equipment used for the interview, although he told investigators he did not pay attention to the discussion.

The prosecution witness stated that investigators concluded from the interview that El-Rufai made what they described as an “open confession” concerning the interception of the NSA’s conversation.

He added that the investigation team considered the act capable of undermining national security and subsequently recommended the former governor’s prosecution.

A preliminary investigation report tendered by the prosecution was admitted as Exhibit F.

However, under cross-examination by defence counsel, Chief Paul Erokoro (SAN), the witness admitted that investigators neither examined any communication devices belonging to the NSA nor obtained IP addresses or conducted forensic analysis relating to the alleged interception.

The witness, however, maintained that such steps became unnecessary after Ribadu reportedly confirmed the authenticity of the conversation referenced during the interview.

He also agreed that El-Rufai never expressly stated during the interview that he personally carried out the interception.

The witness nevertheless insisted that the former governor repeatedly stood by the claim that the conversation had been tapped and forwarded to him.

When asked whether El-Rufai could merely have been making political boasts during a heated television appearance, the witness said he regarded the former governor as a man of integrity and believed he meant what he said.

Following the conclusion of cross-examination, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik adjourned further hearing in the case till June 22 and 23.

Politics“they Said I Charmed Tinubu” — Shettima Reveals Strange Presidency Rumour by Obasa333(op): 6:16am On May 20
Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has revealed a shocking story about how some individuals allegedly warned President Bola Tinubu to stop wearing traditional Borno outfits gifted to him during the 2023 campaign.

According to Shettima, the individuals claimed the clothes had been spiritually manipulated and could lead to Tinubu’s death.

The Vice President made the revelation on Tuesday during the public presentation of the autobiography of former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, titled My Life of Duty and Allegiance in Abuja.

Narrating the incident, Shettima said the President completely dismissed the allegation and even decided to wear the outfits continuously for one week to prove he was not afraid.

“When I came back from China, where I had represented him at the Belt and Road Initiative Conference, he said: ‘Sit down. Your people came to me and said I should stop wearing those dresses you gave me. They said I must have been charmed, and that I am going to die and you will become the president,’” Shettima recounted.

According to him, Tinubu immediately pointed out that the accusation made no sense because at the time the clothes were given, Shettima himself was not even the vice-presidential candidate yet.

“Their story did not add up,” Tinubu reportedly told him.

Shettima said the President then intentionally wore the traditional attire for an entire week “to prove to them that he is not fetish.”

The Vice President used the story to lament what he described as growing suspicion and mistrust in Nigerian society and politics.

He compared the current atmosphere to the era of Gen. Gowon, recalling a story shared by the Sultan of Sokoto about how his family regularly sent gallons of fura to Gowon during his time in power — and Gowon accepted them without fear or suspicion.

“Suspicion smears our relationships, and it ought not to be. We are essentially one people tied to a common destiny,” Shettima said.

The Vice President also praised Gowon’s legacy, especially his role in establishing the National Youth Service Corps and promoting unity after the civil war.

He warned Nigerians against allowing ethnic and religious suspicion to divide the country further, saying leaders must focus on national unity rather than conspiracy and fear.

The revelation has already sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians debating the level of mistrust and political tension within the country’s power circles.

Politics“taxpayers Can Now Report Tax Problems For Free” FG Launches Tax Ombud Platform by Obasa333(op): 7:05am On May 19
The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that Nigerians can now resolve tax-related disputes free of charge through newly launched digital platforms under the Office of the Tax Ombud.

The announcement was made in Abuja during the unveiling of the Tax Ombud website, toll-free call centre, and case management system.

What The New Platform Means

According to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, the new system is designed to make tax dispute resolution easier, faster, and more transparent for Nigerians.

He said taxpayers anywhere in the country can now:

• Report tax-related complaints
• Resolve disputes
• Track their cases online
• Access mediation services

And according to the government, all these services will be completely free.

“Taxpayers, regardless of location, can now engage more easily with the dispute resolution process without unnecessary delays,” Oyedele stated.

FG Says Tax System Must Be Fair

The minister explained that the Office of the Tax Ombud was created to improve fairness and trust in Nigeria’s tax administration system.

According to him, the government wants taxpayers to be treated as “partners in national development” rather than enemies.

The platform is also expected to reduce:

• Unfair tax practices
• Delays in complaint resolution
• Costly legal battles
• Administrative bottlenecks

Tinubu Government Defends Economic Reforms

The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, also defended the economic reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He claimed Nigeria’s economy was gradually improving and said government revenue and investment inflows were increasing under the current administration.

Nigerians Can File Complaints Without Lawyers

Nigeria’s first Tax Ombudsman, John Nwabueze, said the initiative would especially help ordinary Nigerians and small business owners who cannot afford lawyers or expensive consultants.

According to him, the office was created as an independent institution that would act as a bridge between taxpayers and government revenue agencies.

The Executive Secretary of the Joint Revenue Board, Olusegun Adesokan, added that the office would mediate disputes at no cost to citizens.

Why This Matters

The launch comes as Nigeria continues major tax reforms aimed at modernising the country’s tax system and increasing government revenue.

In June 2025, President Tinubu signed several major tax reform bills into law to overhaul Nigeria’s tax administration framework.

Many Nigerians are now watching closely to see whether the new Tax Ombud system will truly protect citizens from unfair taxation and improve trust between taxpayers and government agencies.

CrimeLagos shawarma vendor shot dead by suspected cultists by Obasa333(op): 6:54am On May 19
A shawarma vendor identified simply as Andy has been shot dead by suspected cultists in the Sangotedo area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt on Monday that the incident occurred on Saturday evening.

It was gathered that Andy was attending to customers at his shawarma stand when some masked men stormed the spot and opened fire on him at close range.

The attackers were said to have fled immediately after the shooting, leaving the victim in a pool of blood.

A police source familiar with the incident told PUNCH Metro on Monday that the assailants allegedly disguised themselves as customers before launching the attack.

“The information we received was that the suspects came to the spot pretending to be customers who wanted to buy shawarma.

“The victim was attending to them when they suddenly brought out guns and shot him in the head before escaping.

“Our officers later moved to the scene and saw the lifeless body in a pool of blood. The body was later evacuated from the scene,” the source said.

The police source added that the incident had yet to be linked to cultism until investigations were concluded.

Meanwhile, an anti-cultism platform, Confra Naija, in a post seen by PUNCH Metro on Monday, stated that the incident was cult-related.

The platform also described the deceased as peaceful and hardworking.

“Yesterday, a young man named Andy, popularly known as Aboki De Junior, was shot dead around the ShopRite area of Sangotedo, Lagos State. Armed men reportedly arrived at Aboki De Junior’s shawarma spot and opened fire, killing him.

“After the attack, Eiye cultists claimed responsibility. Aboki De Junior was a peaceful and hardworking shawarma seller from Benue State, known as a calm and friendly businessman who welcomed everybody and had Aye members as friends,” the platform partly wrote.

In a video attached to the post, some residents were seen gathered around the lifeless body while some of them wept over the incident.

A female adult believed to be related to the victim was also seen clutching the lifeless body and crying uncontrollably.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Abimbola Adebisi, could not be reached for comment as calls made to her telephone lines were not answered. A text message sent to her had yet to be replied to as of the time this report was filed.

Lagos State has witnessed a series of cult-related killings and reprisals in recent years, particularly in areas within the Lekki-Ajah axis, Ikorodu, Mushin, and parts of Lagos Mainland, where rival groups have repeatedly clashed over supremacy battles.

PUNCH Metro reported in August 2025 that a shawarma vendor was shot dead by some assailants suspected to be cultists at his shop located in the Mowo area along the Badagry Expressway, Lagos State.

Crime“45 Pupils Abducted” — Panic As Gunmen Attack Schools In Oyo Communities by Obasa333(op): 5:33am On May 17
No fewer than 45 pupils have reportedly been abducted after armed men attacked three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on Friday morning.

The affected schools include Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and L.A. Primary School.

According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers stormed the communities around 8am on motorcycles, shooting sporadically and causing panic among residents, teachers, and pupils.

A teacher at Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Elizabeth Olagoke, said the gunmen were masked, dressed in camouflage, and spoke Yoruba, Hausa, and Pidgin English during the attack.

She explained that the assailants moved from classroom to classroom, abducting children and some teachers before fleeing through nearby forest routes linking the communities to the Old Oyo National Park axis.

Residents said many of the kidnapped children were taken away on motorcycles, while others were marched into the forest on foot.

Traditional rulers and community leaders confirmed that several pupils and teachers remain missing as security operatives continue rescue efforts.

Following the incident, security agencies reportedly launched coordinated operations around the forest reserve areas, while patrol teams involving the police, Amotekun Corps, hunters, and other security outfits were deployed to prevent the attackers from escaping.

The attack has triggered fresh fears across the South-West, with security concerns growing in several states over increasing cases of kidnappings and armed attacks on communities and schools.

Politics“NSA Overreach Triggered New Homeland Security Appointment” — Presidency Sources by Obasa333(op): 5:20am On May 17
Fresh details have emerged on why President Bola Tinubu appointed Nigeria’s first-ever Special Adviser on Homeland Security, with presidency and security sources alleging growing tension between the Office of the National Security Adviser and some service chiefs.

According to multiple sources, the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka Fadewa was allegedly influenced by complaints from military and intelligence officials who felt the NSA office was becoming too involved in operational security matters.

The sources claimed some service chiefs were uncomfortable with what they described as the expansion of operational influence by the Office of the National Security Adviser under Nuhu Ribadu.

One presidency source reportedly said the NSA’s constitutional role should focus on coordination, intelligence synthesis and advising the President rather than direct operational activities.

The source also questioned the existence of what was described as an “ONSA tactical team,” alleging that such operations created friction within the security structure.

President Tinubu had on May 11, 2026, approved the appointment of Major General Fadewa (retd.) as Special Adviser on Homeland Security as part of efforts to strengthen internal security coordination and intelligence-driven operations across the country.

Other officials, however, defended the appointment, saying the President has the constitutional authority to redesign the country’s security architecture in any way that could improve results and tackle insecurity more effectively.

The development has now sparked fresh conversations about Nigeria’s security structure, coordination among agencies, and the Federal Government’s increasing pressure to end insecurity across the country.

This question don dey many people mind

Na management be the real issue
PoliticsNigeria Has Everything So Why Are We Still Struggling? The Truth Many Want by Obasa333(op): 4:43pm On Apr 14
It’s a question many Nigerians are quietly asking…

How can a country blessed with oil, fertile land, and millions of hardworking people still depend on other countries to survive?

Why do we export crude oil and then import fuel?
Why do we have farmland, yet food prices keep rising?

Something doesn’t add up.

We Have Resources But Not Control

Nigeria is one of the most resource-rich countries in Africa.

But having resources is not the same as controlling them.

Take oil for example:

We produce crude oil, yet we import refined fuel.

This means:

• We sell raw materials cheap

• Buy finished products expensive

The real profit is not in what we have… It’s in what we do with it.

Even Food Is A Struggle

With vast farmland across the country, Nigeria should be feeding itself and exporting food.

Instead, farmers face:

• Insecurity

• Poor roads

• Lack of storage and processing

So food is wasted…
While the country still imports what it could produce.

A System That Wasn’t Built For Us

Part of this problem goes back to colonial times, when economies like Nigeria’s were structured to serve foreign interests, mainly under United Kingdom.

The focus was simple:

• Export raw materials

• Import finished goods

Unfortunately, after independence, that structure was never fully changed.

Where Leadership Comes In

Over the years, poor planning, corruption, and inconsistent policies have made things worse.

Instead of building strong local industries, the country became heavily dependent on oil and imports.

Who Controls The Money?

Nigeria’s financial system is managed by the Central Bank of Nigeria, which regulates money flow and oversees banks like United Bank for Africa.

But even with a structured system, economic strength depends on:

Production, not just circulation of money

The Real Truth

Nigeria is not poor because it lacks resources.

Nigeria struggles because:

• It does not process what it produces

• It depends too much on imports

• It has weak systems managing strong potential

What Nigerians Are Really Feeling

Many people feel it every day:

• Prices going up

• Jobs becoming scarce

• Opportunities shrinking

And the big question remains:

Why can’t Nigeria focus on itself?

The truth is uncomfortable but simple:

Nigeria has everything it needs to succeed but until it builds systems that prioritize local production, accountability, and long term planning, the struggle may continue.

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a suspect for alleged illegal possession of a firearm.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the suspect identified as Igbunu Evans, was arrested after allegedly purchasing a Beretta pistol through social media.

Edafe revealed that the suspect reportedly bought the weapon via Snapchat from a vendor and had it delivered to him for ₦450,000.

The police spokesperson described the weapon as a Beretta pistol with magazine and two 9mm ammunition, stressing that such firearms are strictly restricted to authorised security agencies.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the purchase, claiming he acquired the gun “for safety purposes” against unknown gunmen and kidnappers.

He also confessed to being involved in internet fraud for about 3 to 4 years.

Reacting to the development, SP Edafe warned against the growing trend of illegal arms acquisition, linking it to a chain of criminal activities including fraud, cultism, and substance abuse.

He noted that the suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court.
