OpenAI has revealed some of its most advanced AI models went rogue and hacked a start-up after it lost control of them during a security test The ChatGPT-maker said its agent - an AI system which can operate alone after human instruction – was being tested in a controlled environment but, after finding weaknesses, was able to escape the test limits They targeted Hugging Face, one of the world's largest hubs for sharing AI models, gaining access to some internal company systems. OpenAI said the incident was "unprecedented", and it was conducting an investigation alongside Hugging Face, whose boss Clement Delangue said in a post on X it was "mind-blowing that all of this happened autonomously". "The investigation is ongoing, and we'll share more learnings from what might be the first incident of its kind," Delangue added. A government spokesperson said the UK's AI Security Institute was studying the behaviour from the AI system seen in the incident and was continuing to work with OpenAI and other labs to improve safeguards. They said organisations should step up their cyber-defences by taking steps such as enrolling in the government-backed Cyber Essentials certification scheme. Insecure sandboxes Gina Neff, head of the Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy at the University of Cambridge, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that the security tests - called sandboxes - are "supposed to be secure environments where you can see what the models are capable of". "In this case, it looks like OpenAI didn't make a secure enough sandbox," she added. Instead, the agents created their own cyber-attack against the sandbox itself, finding a vulnerability which allowed them to escape the restrictions. Once outside, the AI identified Hugging Face as a likely source of the answers they were seeking in the test, and tried to gain access. Neil Lawrence, Professor of machine learning at Cambridge University, called it an "impressive feat", but cautioned it "falls well within the known capabilities of the current generation" of high-powered AI models. He pointed out that OpenAI is looking to list itself on the stock market, and faces intense pressure from rival firm Anthropic, which has made headlines with its own powerful AI tool, Mythos. "OpenAI are now playing catch-up, they are trying to demonstrate their own systems' capabilities in cyber-security." "It shows us that OpenAI are not capable of safely deploying their own technology," he added. In its initial disclosure of the hack on 16 July, Hugging Face said it was still assessing whether any customer or partner data was affected and would contact affected parties if necessary. It said it has now closed the vulnerabilities highlighted by the incident and rebuilt the affected systems. "Autonomous, AI-driven offensive tooling is no longer theoretical," it said. "Defending an online platform now means treating the data and model surface as a first-class attack surface, and using AI on defence to keep pace. "We will keep investing there, and keep sharing what we learn." 'Sobering moment' The incident has prompted fresh questions about the capabilities of advanced AI systems and whether existing safeguards are sufficient as the technology becomes more powerful. Spencer Starkey, an executive at cyber-security firm SonicWall, told the BBC the incident made it clear organisations needed to "step up" their own defences and "treat cyber resilience as a core operational priority" "The uncomfortable truth is that too many organisations are still defending at human speed while adversaries are escalating to machine speed," he said. Meanwhile Travis Lelle, principal security engineer at cyber-security consulting firm Guidepoint Security, said the update marked a "sobering moment in cyber-security". "This highlights a known asymmetry," he said. "Offensive agents are unconstrained, while the best defensive tools are locked behind guardrails that cannot understand context." But Jake Moore, global cyber-security advisor at ESET, said the announcement could also have a competitive dimension. Gbadebo19:Bro I can tell you that the announcement by the Houthis is the best news Netanyahu will receive this week!!.. because if they follow up with the threats!! The Saudi kingdom will 100% respond!! And that changes the entire dynamics of the current war in the middle-east!! If it escalate which I hope it will, fingers crossed!!. it will bring Pakistan into the scheme of things, the Pakistanis have already signaled it will honour her mutual defence pact with Saudis.. Am looking out for two things. One, will Iran strike the Saudis protecting the Houthis after failing to enforce such deterrence for hazebolla!! Two, by the time Pakistan will enter the fray which i know they will at the behest of Saudi Arabia, will Iran have the will to balance the equation by striking a nuclear power in home tuff!! Also importantly this move will strengthen Israel stance that the biggest and most singular threat to the peace and stability in the middle-east is Iran and her proxies!! Almost half of the entire budget of the Russian Federation is going to her military, her entire industrial might are currently refitted to cater for her military needs there is also Labor Shifts, the majority of the country workforce is rapidly reshaped, with a massive draw of labor into defense industries to cater for the country military needs!!! before pearl harbour and the US entry into WW2 the US navy had a pre war fleet of over 700 but ended the war with over 6,700 ships by 1945. The United States built an unprecedented 141 aircraft carriers during World War II!!, The figures is even scary when you check the out the planes built by the US in WW2.. This massive industrial output was only possible because the US operated a wartime economy!!. I don't understand this dermmy clown, isn't it a normal thing, normal standard military procedure for countries to draw men and material from places were they are not needed to theatres of battles?? Reading what our in-house clowns scribbles makes me wanna puke so bad!!🤮 They had invested so much on an Iranian military confrontation with the US. with the expectation that the latter will incur hundreds of causalities. They wanted an aircraft carrier with over 5,000 souls sunked with their magical missiles, they propagated a fictional land invasion of Iran.. the same clowns who termed themselves as "holy" and "righteous" are now clamouring for distillation plants to be targeted and destroyed, knowing fully well that those installations are critical for civilian survival in the middle-east! Tomorrow, they will say they are fighting for Palestine civilians in Gaza!! Seeing the war and destruction they wanted and predicted isn't forthcoming.. They are busying running amok wailing over the thread..the very sight of negotiations or the attempts to bring both parties to the table makes them sick to their stomach!!!..One can literally feel the pain in their scribbles!! The bottom line is this, both the US and Iran have no real appetite in a total war between them. That's the gospel folks!! It is so evident that even the blind can see it.. While both parties are fanning the rhetorics of war online, their actions on the battlefield have betrayed the very belligerence stance they are portraying to their respective public. It would be childish to think that Trump would pull a putin and commit the United States military into an endless circle of a war of attrition with Iran. Total war is not call of duty on console.. it requires massive financial and human capital to embark upon. This is 2026. Not everyone is as shortsighted like that midget in the Kremlin who unilateral committed his country into the largest land invasion since the hay days of WW2!! What comical about the whole thing is that our in-house clowns try to put the blame on a few individuals within the executive political echelon of the Islamic Republic of Iran for their failures. Iran is not a democracy, never was and will never be!! The likes of Aragchi, Pezeshkian & Ghalibaf are now the scapegoats for our in-house clowns.. The highest military organisation in Iran is the IRGC.. The IRGC is constitutionally mandated to ensure the integrity of the Islamic Republic of iran!! Our clowns have been trying to portray the trio of Aragchi, Pezeshkian, and Ghalibaf to be the reasons for the perceived lack of action by the IRGC.. but do the triad of Aragchi, Pezeshkian, and Ghalibaf really have control over the military apparatus of the Islamic republic of iran.. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) answers directly to Iran's Supreme Leader. The Supreme Leader holds the ultimate authority over the military, and also appoints the IRGC's top commanders, and controls the country's national security policies While the IRGC coordinates with Iran's president and parliament on some domestic matters, its chain of command bypasses the civilian government entirely This bears the question" why are our clowns so invested in the triumvirate of Aragchi, Pezeshkian & Ghalibaf?? When in essence, the above tercet of individuals simply do not have the authority nor means to dictate how the Iranian military choses to carry out her business.. The negotiations, the military operations are coming from the desk of the supreme leader who is the undisputable head of the Islamic Republic of Iran. ♧ It has been a while since my last post on the Iranian front.. Let me give a summary of the situation from our side of the divide..our friends told us Iran won the war, Iran got a better deal than the US via the MoU both nations signed??.. how come our in-house clowns keep wailing over a deal they said was more favourable to the Iranians??.. Na you win na you come dey cry pass!!😂 Reality has a way of snapping delusional individuals back into their senses!! What are the realities on ground?? The first reality is that not a single cent from the US has been given to Iran.. some weeks ago, 300 billion dollars was the popular catchphrase on the thread.. let me quote Jasem Al Budaiwi who is the GCC secretary on the reported $300 billion Iranian reconstruction package "For the 300, I have not seen anything. It was not introduced to me nor to other GCC countries. We don't know anything about it. Why would I ask him if it's not introduced to me? We don't know what the 300 is, who's going to fund the 300, or who's going to be the beneficiary of the 300. Our clowns thought that 300 billion dollars would be handed over to Iran on the auspices of a simple Memorandum of understanding.. 😂😂😂. Let me quote Mr Vance, the vice-president of the United States of America, during his appearance on ABC's Good morning America programme. There's been no money released, and that won't change," Iran would receive money only if it took verified steps to eliminate its stockpile of highly enriched uranium. Where by Iran now serves as the apex security guarantee for her proxies!! Sorry to burst the propaganda bubble, the Jews are still conducting strikes in labenon.. they have even step-up attacks in the Gaza Strip FYI, the Jews are still occupying lands in southern Lebanon.. in the past weeks have even moved into new territory in the gaza strip... solidifying her hold on the strip!!! On the political theatre of the struggle, the Jewish government scored a diplomatic win by having an agreement with the labenase government sidelining Hazebolla who had to watch the whole thing sitting in the nosebleeds!! The agreement signed by the Jews and the labenase clearly states that the Jews are free to stay in southern labenon pending the disarmament of hazebolla by the labenase government.. Anyone with a working frontal lobe knows that hazebolla isn't going to voluntarily give up her arms.. hence, this serves as a perfect opportunity for the IDf to remain in southern Lebanon!!. ♧ Watched a video of Zelensky the sanction master making fun of putin and the vulnerability of Russia's defence capabilities and her inability to protect her capital from Ukrainian drones!!! I took a critical look at Potus body language and wordings during the press meeting.. one would clearly see a distinction between this meeting and the one in Washington were Zelensky was basically mocked by Trump!! Zelensky decision to up the ante in ukraine's long-range sanctions on Russia is reaping dividends.. this has brought him and Ukraine massive respect!!
