So here are some pics...they all doing good. Lost 2 bunnies though due to an inexperienced mother and also coupled with the fact I was absent in the first week to really monitor them and swap some of hers with the other mother that gave birth same night as she did..lesson learned. So right now Doe (Blackky) has 7 bunnies and Brownie 4 bunnies for now going strong.

Pavore9:Pm sent Sir. I really appreciate. XieXie:Those 2 kegs of urine you saw were not mine. Those were from an example Pavore9 posted from kenya. Nevertheless....very soon .... ![]() thunderkizito:you can pm me or check for my number its on this thread. hotspec:Thanks a bunch! Sound words of reality. Ezionye:As for the mother not caring for the young if you touch them..well I have never experienced that even way back then. And yes..rabbits do dig... ![]() baba11:Yes....you might be correct..but If snake, grasscutter, giant rats and the likes are eaten...I see no reason why rabbits as well cant be seen as a very good source of cheap protein. |
hotspec:Very correct bro thats the exact way to decribe the plant. The tin can scratch ehnnnn my three year old son can testify to that....the guy one once wanted to dey form don jazzy in helping me to feed the rabbits....would I say no? eerrmm now sha the guy keeps a distance from the plants...but not the rabbits ![]() I am planning as well to pay a visit to any big commercial rabbit farm. I do not know if there is any farm that does process the urine and skin here in Nigeria. All I have read about that so far are from Kenya mostly. I might be wrong though. Since I started I have collected close to 22 litres of urine from the 10 rabbits I have in about 2 weeks...from the info gotten if this is processed ....just a 1 litre of this processed fertiliser diluted with 20 litres can fertilise an acre of land Yes its a messy job collecting rabbit urine...yes it stinks ordinarily as per normal .but when one opens the cover of the container of collected urine.Oluwa oooo...chai.....chai..... ......But look on the non stinky side...imagine how many acres of your farmland 10 rabbits can fertilise with just 20 litres..= 20 acres .....imagine how much extra funds one can raise by selling this urine ..even if na to buy recharge card or buy fuel for generator..... ..imagine how much you had saved from not buying chemical based fertiliser. ...imagine also the amount of acres you have saved from chemical based fertiliser.......all this savings from rabbit urine? Organic is the way to go!I remember Otunba Ghadafi of dmt mobile toilets slogan " ![]() |

Thanks for all commendations and encouragement. I really appreciate. I just had to do it like "Nike" ![]() humpito:Whether we keep rabbits as pets or for commercial purposes the major hindrance had always been how to dispose off the waste. Infact wayback then I always dreaded being asked by Daddy to go clean up the rabbit hutches ..i had to sweep. Wash..etc.. I guess that really prompted me to make sure I found an easy way to get that job done ...I cant come and go and be suffering myself by myself ..but hey..no pain no gain... ![]() solepager:Thanks..rabbit meat is far sweeter and healthier to eat. Trust me ![]() Pavore9:Bros Pavore9...please continue to show yourself please. I never pick ya brain finish..infact na Kenya remain make I come. ![]() seyoops4u:Sorry..I.used and had the initial quotation mixed up ..we ended up getting 10 lengths@ 1500. kennylawal:They would feed more on feed meal that consist of coarse ground dry corn, soya and other legumes during the dry season. Do you know rabbits also eat kitchen leftovers like rice, beans, yam peelings etc infact apart from meat..anything we ate at home we gave to the rabbits as well..... Comes in very handy during that period as well.. ..Titanium38:Thanks to all for all the prayers.. of course a tour is always welcome anytime..just pre inform me so I arrange better pounded yam with egusi soup..and if you are lucky..rabbit meat! ![]() hotspec:Attached are the leaves at close range.

whirlwind7:Thanks a whole lot. I wouldn't know what size of net that was . I would find out definitely. But what I know is that it had a length of about 36 feet or thereabouts. Kindly indulge me for a minute, pls. I keep getting this impression that rearing grass cutters would be a more productive venture, especially in the SE, where such creatures are well known and regarded as a delicacy, than rabbit. Am I off the mark here? You are quite correct. Grasscutter meat has more appeal down this way and I knew that, but nevertheless I intend creating or driving demand for rabbit meat. My day job is being a sales man.. ![]() |
Baroba:,thanks a whole bunch ![]() Cleaning and feeding time... ![]() In my compound...we have quite some space with which grows plenty of the plant called aspilia africana. Dont know the local name but I had known this for over 20 years then when we kept rabbits. So right in my backyard and within reach I have fresh greens for them 24/7. > ![]()

Thanks bro. For the dimensions there is really no specific way or method I just used dimensions I felt would fit in to my draft. Height of the whole setup was 70 inches. Width 42 inches and depth 22 inches. For the hutches 20inches each for height and we have 3 hutches. So the extra 10 inches were for the stands making 70 inches total.in height. For width 20 inches each hutch. 2 inches extra for contingencies ..total 42 inches.I used aluminium sheet for the urine and faeces receptor underneath. ( aluminium are better as noted earlier) the sheets also served as the roof of the hutch above it apart from the top most hutch that had net. I used 3 inches pvc pipes for the gutter channel. I fit the aluminium sheets and pvc pipes myself so as to really get what I wanted as drafted.( when i went to buy the net, the carpenter had already modified or made a. mistake with the dimensions hence the top segment of the cage has a smaller size. ..nothing spoil sha.I just converted that part for the young growing bunnies that would come up soon so I did not demarcate it.Apart from the wood ,nails and piping that I bought just what would serve me for now..I got the nets in bulk(complete rolls) so now I have some leftover for use later as the setup expands. I have started storing the urine in kegs already . Getting ready to treat and store for use as organic fertiliser....I still need to do some more research on that. The faeces I am just pouring at a point pending when I would use that area for a small garden much later. For now I feed my rabbits more greens and less feed since its all in abundance now due to rains and also to reduce cost as well. I feed and change their water every morning and evening. |
So I was able to put it all together and looking good. Am sure the next one I would construct would be far better and more refined (experience is the best teacher abi) ![]() I had initially built one similar to the sample I saw.. above.. For me..I think I prefer mine...like someone said..space would be better utilised. Have a look. I had gotten 8 females and 2 males. Would be geting another 4females and 2 males later. Lets see how I all pans out. Wish me well! ![]()
