No sir..... as illustrated 67 is easy to get, even at 40!

Study that grid again, even a single 42 yr old with a Masters, over 6 years of work experience and CLB 9 is already at 67. Add spouse IELTS (which most 40 years will typically have) and you are above the minimum.

The OP's issue (eligibility wise) was really the IELTS CLB 8 as Ednut says..... CLB 9 would have put him at 68 without his spouse IELTS and without a Masters. Of course, his score would be higher if he were younger but to say it becomes elusive for a 40 year old to get 67 is false IMO, but I may be wrong.

Now CRS...that's something else all together....the advise though is to enter the pool no matter your CRS and work on increasing your CRS with time.

Ps: you keep ignoring French which is really the rocket that can launch a 40 year old into Canny....and you seem to be focusing on job offers, why is that? Not only does it up one's eligibility and CRS, it also opens you up to more PNPs.

Thanks for the detailed response.

I would highly recommend studying page 1 of this thread also. 67 is for ALL Express Entry. There is a FSW stream under EE, think of it as a sub category under EE.

40 year olds get PR under EE......some blood, sweat and tears may be involved though.

That's precisely my point. Once you hit your 40s, attaining 67 points becomes elusive, unless you've got family ties and/or secured yourself a job offer. There could be some PNPs not linked to the EE program that have less taxing eligibility requirements. I guess it's just a question of research.

Page 1 FAQ 8 Some are related to EE, some are not. The ones that are, give 600 extra CRS points.

Yeah. this is just a ranking system for selecting candidates in the entry pool. These points, however, are not factored in when assessing your application for the PR. In other words, you get no additional points towards the PR for being nominated. So, if you do not meet the minimum point requirements (67 points or above) for the actual PR, your application will likely be denied even if nominated by a designated province. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The solution IMO is TEF, TEF and TEF again grin

Seriously though either TEF or TCF French exams OR depending on your NOC and the province.......PNP. Read FAQ 8 on Page 1 for how to begin exploring each PNP and here for TEF thread.

Ok. So, the PNP is not associated with the express entry?

leppyj:
Good evening folks, I am 40 years old, married, I have HND in electrical engineering, I have been working in a paramilitary organisation for the past 10 years, done ECA already, I have CLB 8 in ielts. The problem I have is that I don't know which NOC to choose ( I wanted to choose 2241 as I had once worked in the technical department once and I also saw 0431 and 4311 that is similar to what I do in my present place of work though not a personnel of the Nigeria police force but another law enforcement agency with similar mandates) I need all the advice and pointers I can get.

Just a quick observation. It seems as though once you hit 40 or more, your chances for obtaining a PR under the express entry quickly fade.

Based on the info provided above, leppyj will not even qualify for the PR under the express entry system. He will need at least 67 points.

Age (40) = 7
Language proficiency (CBL8) = 20
Work experience (10) = 15
Education (HND) = 22
Adaptability = 0
Arranged employment = 0
______________________________
Total = 64

I guess to qualify, leppyj, will need a job offer, or meet some other adaptability factors (e.g. studied and/or worked in Canada for at least 1 year).

So the question is, those in their 40s that have made it into Canada, what route did you follow?
